Rockies-Phillies: Featuring Two Bouncers From The Double Deuce
Baseball October 7th. 2009, 2:30pm
By all accounts, there hasn’t been a current or former teammate who hasn’t loved playing with Jason Giambi or Matt Stairs.
It would be hard not to. Stairs is a career role player with a knack for moonshots and moonshine, and Giambi drinks two beers at a time while making no apologies for being fashionably trapped in 1988.
The two will no doubt soon join forces to win the WWE tag belts, but right now both walking kegs are focused on providing that one pivotal swing off the bench. The drama is just begging to unfold. [Never forget, Dodger fans, never forget.]
Today’s starters are Ubaldo Jiménez and the always innocent looking Cliff Lee. Cliffy stumbles into this one having given up 10 runs in his last two starts, while Ubaldy is coming off a 10-strikeout, one-run performance against the Dodgers.
But let’s not kid ourselves, all we want to see is Brad Lidge take the mound in the ninth with a one-run lead.
***
This has been Giambi’s walk-up music for several years. Seriously:

I remember when Giambi came out to that at a Yankee game and the place went apeshit. He also came out to the Undertaker music from time to time.

WCW Nitro really peaked during the NWO reign of terror. The spray paint, the bats, and gang beatings, Hogan’s black beard – it was all terrific.

“You know what Eric Bischoff is? You know what Eric Bischoff is? He’s every one of these motherfucking smart marks rolled up into one giant peice of shit! I guess you guys didn’t get that. Smart Marks. What’s a smart mark? A mark with a high IQ? Okay… smart marks… okay…you know what a mark is… a mark is a guy who pays his last twenty dollars on crack cocaine… a mark is a guy who beleives that OJ didn’t do it. And a mark is each and every one of you sorry sons of bitches. So you know what. I’m gonna do right fucking here, right now? The only appropriate thing Brian Pillman should do. I’m gonna yank out my johnson and piss in this hellhole.”
I don’t wanna be a smark.

as a clevelander it pains me to say this: CC Sabathia is going to start Game 1 of the World Series against Cliff Lee, ONLY beacuse the back to back Cy Young winners traded from the Indians. you heard it here first. if they came from two different teams (neither one being the indians), i wouldn’t be saying anything.

that’s silly, you know he’ll pitch like shit now that he’s in the post season.

that would be true only if he still played in cleveland. now that he’s out, he’s going dominate. that’s just how it goes in c-town.

Cliff Lee works fast. This game will be over in 5 minutes.
