NFL Early Game Open Thread
Cheerleaders, NFL October 11th. 2009, 1:00pm
Cincy @ Bal’more – The one highlight of the early schedule!
Cle @ Buff - Instant classic.
Wash @ Car – It’s on the schedule so they have to play it.
Pitt @ Det – Start Big Ben or he’ll force himself on you.
Dal @ KC – For some reason this game is on my television today.
Oak @ NYG – Any truth to the line moving to Giants -42?
TB @ Philly – Seriously, this slate is making me ill.
Minny @ STL – Another punch in the groin for St. Louis residents

That chick would be so hot without that ugly ass bikini. If you can’t win money this Sunday in the NFL, you should no longer gamble.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:03 PM
weak NFL slate that’s making it difficult to wager on. i have a few silly parlays. only game i feel strongly about: NE -3 at Denver.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:04 PM
I can see myself only picking five correct games this week.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:05 PM
deangelo williams fumbles on the first drive, Redskins take over in the red zone.
what a crappy game: Panthers-Redskins
October 11th, 2009 at 1:05 PM
Limas Sweed drops another pass. Not a TD or anything, but a third and short.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:06 PM
touchdown clinton portis!
great, i didnt start him
October 11th, 2009 at 1:06 PM
Baltimore meatheads WOOO!!
October 11th, 2009 at 1:07 PM
Just tease the fuck outta games and you’re money
October 11th, 2009 at 1:08 PM
Gus Johnson and the other guy are acting like it’s Chicago’s fault that Benson wasn’t good there.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:08 PM
mcnabb a bomb to the rookie maclin, TD
7-0 eagles
October 11th, 2009 at 1:11 PM
you didnt heaR? chicago coaches told benson to do a hop step when he got the handoff and then told him to run into a defensive lineman and fall down.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:12 PM
They jusy slobbed his knob for about 10 minutes. Just sort of nonchalantly mentioned he got arrested twice.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:13 PM
Rams and Vikings on Westwood One. I enjoy football on the radio. Don’t think you can classify this as football though.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:14 PM
nice! bradshaw steals a carry from jacobs on 4th and goal and scores!
October 11th, 2009 at 1:15 PM
Footbll and baseball are the only sports you can listen to on the radio. I’ve tried listening to hockey and basketball, and my head nearly explodes.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:15 PM
Graham misses, or it was blocked!
October 11th, 2009 at 1:16 PM
So a long opening drive where they ha their way with the Ravens defense (except for two delay of game penalties) and they get nothing out of it.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:16 PM
Right with you here TBL Godfather for real with another two-way parlay including O36 for the Monday night game with the other side undisclosed for now.
Paper Picks Again (I went with the lines early as always):
$21 NE -3
$12 NYJ/MIA O36.5
$11 DAL -8
$7 SF -2.5
Tight board otherwise and this might just be the last week for NFL real betting for me as well until the playoffs.
I finished up college betting until the first rivalry week yesterday as a small winner overall on paper and for real.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:17 PM
wow, boller sucks!
fumbled and Allen scooped it and went 65 yards for the TD
October 11th, 2009 at 1:17 PM
i think boller just threw the ball behind him
October 11th, 2009 at 1:17 PM
TD Jared Allen. And picking up the defense going against the Rams pays off again.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:17 PM
good lord the rams are horrible.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:18 PM
Wow. Rams are awful. Jared Allen TD
October 11th, 2009 at 1:18 PM
Is this the ugliest slate of early games we have ever seen short of perhaps all those meaningless games in Week 17?
October 11th, 2009 at 1:18 PM
He’ only good at throwing from his knees at the 50.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:19 PM
also, Red Sox score three in the third against Kazmir.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:20 PM
+0.5 Brock/Mrejr …and how about that Matt Forte they keep harping about? Overrated please. See how he plays against a real defense.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:20 PM
Freakin had Maclin starting but wasnt comfortable with it so I changed it to Lee Evans. Keep making some bad decisions.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:21 PM
My first weekend with NFL RZ channel, and I gotta say 20 minutes in it is fantastic. Good pace of switching games, highlights, no commercials, love it.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:21 PM
The slow mo replay of Boller looking at the ball float backwards out of his hand is priceless.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:24 PM
I keep forgetting to set my team in the TBL league.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:25 PM
This is the future of the NFL viewing experience for sure and will marginalise the networks even further and rightfully so. Hell how I wish I could just pay say $30/month for ONLY this channel plus the NFL network via a reliable satellite, fibre or other solid high-speed connection over multiple monitors for the whole experience in my home.
What then would be the point of CBS, FOX, NBC, and worst of all ESPN? Exactly!
How much do you pay for NFL Redzone, and what medium do you use to get it?
October 11th, 2009 at 1:25 PM
Thanks for that last week.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:26 PM
The Bills ineptitude is giving me hope.
/Obama’d
October 11th, 2009 at 1:28 PM
so, so happy i started bradshaw. 2 TDs already!
Flacco throws a pick in the end zone. interesting. still 0-0 vs. Bengals (cincy missed FG)
October 11th, 2009 at 1:28 PM
I do what I can.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:29 PM
Ripe for more picking for sure, but sports not politics today hopefully not only for me as best as we can avoid it again.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:30 PM
I have to root for Carolina, because for some reason I took them as my survivor pick.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:32 PM
There was some heavy Nemesis shit goin on in last nights thread i see. Let’s just talk shit about how bad the Rams and Browns are and not about one another (even though that was pretty entertaining)
October 11th, 2009 at 1:33 PM
Anyone here have the Buffalo – Browns game as their CBS broadcast? Are you drunk yet?
October 11th, 2009 at 1:34 PM
calvin johnson hurt! kill me now. knee injury. debacle
October 11th, 2009 at 1:35 PM
I agree plus how overrated some college teams are on other posts later this week plus also after today the same for various NFL teams.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:35 PM
at least don criqui is on the call. really like his work.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:35 PM
Gettin there. 99 cent Icehouse tallboys are a good choice on Sundays even tho it tastes like cat piss.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:36 PM
how do I obtain this nfl redzone?
October 11th, 2009 at 1:36 PM
fucking god damned holding kyle cook you fucking asshole
October 11th, 2009 at 1:36 PM
Hell, we don’t even have the Browns game in Columbus. I can’t remember the last time that the Bengals took precedence over the Bengals in this town…
October 11th, 2009 at 1:36 PM
Bengals are shooting themselves in the foot. penalty after penalty.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:36 PM
oh geez – Folk misses a FG for Dallas.
2 plays earlier, romo was inches long on a Miles Austin TD pass. got a hand on it, but couldn’t make the catch.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:36 PM
No worries. They can just take the leg off another transformer and hot glue it on there.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:37 PM
+1.5 PL agreed in full and see my comment on the gambling in number 18 above.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:38 PM
Thats a big reason why I’m so happy about NFLRZ. Paolo, I had to pay 5 bucks for the “Premier HD” channel set. Not sure what is so premier about Universal, MGM, and Smithsonian channels.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:38 PM
Bradshaw on a bitch
October 11th, 2009 at 1:38 PM
haha just saw the Boller fumble. Sweet throw. That’s what they get for wearing the throwbacks.
ED REED TD!!!!
October 11th, 2009 at 1:38 PM
All Ed Reed does in score touchdowns…
October 11th, 2009 at 1:39 PM
*in = is… Ugh.
Reed is still the best safety in the league. Thanks for playing Polamalu…
October 11th, 2009 at 1:39 PM
Carson Palmer had the Eli Manning face on just then.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:41 PM
(From my comment 32)
Ditto Jersey. Recommendations if you have SOLID NFL Redzone service on who your provider is? And how much? And what else do they “make” you buy, as in all the package crap they usually stuff you with like for satellite or cable?
To hell with all the other shit all I would ever want to pay for is the NFL Network and the RedZone channel and that’s all for me. The rest I can get online at will, and it’s only a matter of time before the connection is solid enough to have feeds on multiple monitors.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:41 PM
Jesus, Ed Reed looks old.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:41 PM
I’ve been doing these Monster teasers all year where i get 13 pts either way on the line. I’ve been hitting like 90% of them. It’s bound to come back and bite me in the ass though so i’m enjoying them while they’re hitting. but on a weekend like this, they’re good bets, with these shit 1:00 games. Min +2, Pit +2, Bal +3.5, and Dal +5.5. How can you not like those odds?
October 11th, 2009 at 1:42 PM
Ed Reed pick 6, not a bad call by Gus Johnson
October 11th, 2009 at 1:42 PM
Panthers/Skins and Raiders/Giants
Yeah, I’m gonna go watch Dexter. Worst matchups eeeeeeeeeeeeever.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:43 PM
i’d say it is a tie. troy is really really really really really really really good
October 11th, 2009 at 1:44 PM
5-1 Boston. I cant even watch this game. I’m stuck with the Bengals.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:44 PM
giants just polanski-ing the raiders right now
October 11th, 2009 at 1:44 PM
i have been mostly dismissive of Eli Manning, but boy has he improved.
it it because plax is gone? has he just gotten better?
October 11th, 2009 at 1:44 PM
This.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:44 PM
Re: RedZone
I have the best package available on FiOS and they still want to charge me 50 bux for it, not worth it in my opinion…
October 11th, 2009 at 1:44 PM
Giants with Bradshaw are throttling Oakland.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:44 PM
Still say that the best Nike commercial is the Polamalu and LT as kids commercial.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:45 PM
There isnt a comparison…. they are both extremely good in completely different ways. It’s weird.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:45 PM
Sox pitchers just can’t keep the Angels off the bases. Big 2 run homer by Drew and need to get out of the inning without a run if you are Clay.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:45 PM
Dan Reeves is calling this MIN StL game. He’s actually really good. Radio call of course.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:45 PM
+0.5 TST.
And hey you mischaracterised my views again in your classic exaggeration when recalling our initial conversations, which of course were the origin of a now famous phrase thrown around on here that I don’t have to repeat for sake of our professionalism today, and don’t get any ideas though it takes a village if you are family to me you are like the abandoned red-headed step child perhaps TST.
Otherwise way to contribute some game on the games and on life at times for that matter. At least your commentary is original and usually with wit irrespective of disagreement or agreement with it.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:46 PM
sick catch by Henry…
October 11th, 2009 at 1:46 PM
word i said that awhile back on here. that was awesome.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:47 PM
The Rams can’t do anything right
October 11th, 2009 at 1:48 PM
Him and Peyton are really scary with how they approached this season. They both took the time to work with the young guys in the receiving corps, and as a result, everyone is playing excellent football.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:48 PM
Another Rams turnover. Allen recovers again.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:48 PM
Okay…FOX here isn’t carrying the Panthers/Skins game anymore. Instead there’s the “Tim McCarver Show”. What happened?
October 11th, 2009 at 1:48 PM
looks like the giants are going to put up 80 on the raiders today.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:49 PM
uh oh Mrejr, sorry. INT for big ben and hes struggling now.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:49 PM
PL I have never played the teasers because I didn’t really understand them until you explained them now, but hey when you hit for example any one of these today, what are the respective payoffs if greater than +100 on a typical -110 for straight bets or without the vig on parlays or money-lines?
October 11th, 2009 at 1:49 PM
detroits bails out big ben!
October 11th, 2009 at 1:49 PM
Can we all just stop talking about Bradshaw, who is firmly planted on the bench in BOTH of my leagues…
No chance of him playing in one, where I’ve got Donald Brown and Glen Coffee going. I waffled on him in the lineup this week in the other league as a flex player since the Raiders suck so bad…
October 11th, 2009 at 1:49 PM
nevermind
October 11th, 2009 at 1:50 PM
GSG, if you’re on the hi def feed, switch to standard if you can…I’m still getting the game just not in hi def.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:50 PM
jesus the Ravens D is killing Palmer
October 11th, 2009 at 1:51 PM
so when does jared allen get a athletic tag slapped on him? that dude is a beast.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:51 PM
Nah, still not getting anything. Eh, it’s not a big deal.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:53 PM
Oh please TBL Godfather it’s against the awful Raiders.
Let’s wait until they play a real opponent for the second half when the pain for that plantar fascitis really kicks in. I have had a minor version of it, and it will affect your knees and back too due to the need to stand on the affected foot differently due to the pain. The jury remains out on Eli Manning with such an injury that will only nag him even with the cortisone shots I say.
I’ve already commented that the defensive strategy of a solid defense would be about the same as for Sanchez — make him go to his weak side to throw as much as possible, and really stick him should he be dumb enough to run it.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:53 PM
chiefs 10
dallas 0
sanders, you on this?
jerruh is not gonna be happy
October 11th, 2009 at 1:53 PM
Well he’s white, so we’re gonna have to go with “deceivingly fast”
October 11th, 2009 at 1:53 PM
Holy shit my Dallas -8 is in serious shit too …but these are the Chiefs of course there is more than hope.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:55 PM
Since moving I get one NFL game a week, whatever isn’t the Redskins game. TODO, but NFL ticket next year.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:55 PM
Paolo, 100/76 in one, 140/107 in the other…. both 4 teamers. In the second one i got Indy +9 instead of the Dallas game, which is good because Romo doesn’t know how to receive a fuckin snap.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:55 PM
Jamarcus Russell > Tony Romo
October 11th, 2009 at 1:56 PM
My upset pick is coming strong…
October 11th, 2009 at 1:56 PM
and the Rams run QB draw with Boller against one of the best DLs in the league. And the Rams are dogshit because why?
October 11th, 2009 at 1:57 PM
wow if dallas loses this game i see a lot of people getting fired.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:57 PM
Thanks Badger and I would agree on that …I wonder how much uVerse charges for it? And Direct TV for it and the whole NFL package above what else required? And Comcast or Cablevision or Charter etc including basic digital cable?
October 11th, 2009 at 1:57 PM
PL, is Burton playing?
October 11th, 2009 at 1:57 PM
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Panthers fumble it into the endzone on fourth down (after getting first and goal on the two and failing three times) and a different player recovers. They call touchdown. London Fletcher runs after the ref and yells at him, then the ref suddenly pulls his head out of his ass and realizes you can’t fumble it into the endzone and a different player recovers, so Washington gets it.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:57 PM
You should be getting Ravens-Bengals too. I am. Also, I was scared of the Eli injury, and started Matt Ryan instead. Fuck.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:58 PM
nice shot of a crappy building in Baltimore, CBS.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:59 PM
DeAngelo Williams wants me out of the survivor league.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:59 PM
Beecher on House!
October 11th, 2009 at 1:59 PM
Jerrah’s already on the phone with Shanahan.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:00 PM
jpq?
October 11th, 2009 at 2:00 PM
That’s what I’m watching. I refuse to watch the Redskins unless they are playing the Giants. Ray Ray must have drank the blood of some of the rookies to start the year. He’s looking youthful.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:01 PM
When is time to bench Romo? Dallas looks terrible.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:01 PM
Awesome.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:01 PM
Ballsy survivor pick. I got Pitt.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:01 PM
Coats wiiiiiiiiiiiide open and drops it.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:02 PM
And washington runs a sweep in the endzone, guess what, safety. This could be one of the worst football games ever played.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:02 PM
seconded.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:02 PM
Holy shit you mean like a parlay you have to hit ALL 4 to get that payoff? I see why they call them teasers now, as of course you have great odds on each game hitting, but the payoff is sure flimsy for each at 100/76 and 140/107 for each respectively or effectively ~ -130 for hitting a 4-way teased parlay.
With those odds lest I misunderstand that is not my game, but one cannot argue with anyone who is in the plus column overall whatever the rationale. That’s what I miss about Vegas and most Vegas types too.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:02 PM
I’d rather have Delhomme right now than Romo.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:03 PM
Is Harvin the only receiver on the Vikings?
October 11th, 2009 at 2:03 PM
who else saw the hot blonde in blue at the detroite game? she looked good
October 11th, 2009 at 2:03 PM
Worse than the rams Seahwaks game earlier this year?
@PL – I want to get the crap team out of the way at the beginning of the season so I still have pitt, Giants, Indy and others at the end.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:04 PM
apparently because he is murking my fantasy team.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:04 PM
Well that was a blowout, at last one team was able to do stuff. These teams are just completely incompetent.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:05 PM
great catch by Maclin – second nice reception today. looking good for the eagles
October 11th, 2009 at 2:05 PM
Seriously, Portis ran laterally on the goalline for about four yards. What the fuck kind of decision is that?
October 11th, 2009 at 2:06 PM
apparently clayton dropped it and the Bengals scoop it up for the TD.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:06 PM
Has anybody eaten a BLACKJACK TACO yet? I need a review please.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:06 PM
Wow Cincy just scored after a Clayton fumble, but it is going to be reviewed and probably be overturned.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:06 PM
is mcnabb avoiding desean jackson? wtf?
October 11th, 2009 at 2:06 PM
Not putting up at least 7 points in the first half against the woeful Chiefs, let alone not beating them handily to look like a team that will make a serious run at the playoffs, is inexcusable and should be grounds enough for some heads rolling all the way to Texarkana.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:07 PM
blackjack review
October 11th, 2009 at 2:07 PM
I’m only trying it if I can wash it down with Mountain Dew Pitch Black.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:07 PM
wait. Did they say Clayton was down?
October 11th, 2009 at 2:08 PM
I willfully admit that I’m a sucker. All good things must come to an end. Fuck it, Alotta football left
October 11th, 2009 at 2:08 PM
That blackjack taco looks nasty.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:08 PM
It’s Florida, Alabama, Texas and Virginia Tech in the AP Poll.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:09 PM
Looked sickening …but then again how crap like “King of the Hill” stayed on so long, “The Simpsons” for over 20 years now, and how whyyyte and poorly acted “Friends” had such a long run baffles me to this day.
/Pop Cultured
October 11th, 2009 at 2:09 PM
It cracked me the hell up that Mountain Dew had the sack to call a grape soda “pitch black.”
October 11th, 2009 at 2:09 PM
well. big ben just threw a pick 6.
against the lions.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:10 PM
that’s racist.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:10 PM
that’s also racist.
love pitch black.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:10 PM
WTF? Weird, me and my buddies were just talkin about this like 5 minutes ago. I think someone is goin on a TB run. stay posted
October 11th, 2009 at 2:11 PM
the black jack taco looks like something after a person drinks too much pepto bismol.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:12 PM
lol. Not only does my stomach hurt, but if I take pepto it will look like I’m shitting out roofing tar.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:13 PM
i think you might be the onkly person who got that. +1
October 11th, 2009 at 2:14 PM
I just don’t talk that way in front of Lindi.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:14 PM
CGB from a post I made about an hour ago:
http://thebiglead.com/?p=24103#comment-530641
Your Hokies are looking so much better now as is even Ohio State after that miserable first quarter or so.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:15 PM
Nice. I was in Key West for St. Patty’s day in March. I was drinkin green beer all day and Jack Daniels. I took a shit the next morning, I thought i shat kryptonite. It was awesome, sent out multiple picture texts.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:16 PM
This Josh Johnson kid doesn’t totally suck.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:16 PM
With playcalling like that in Washington and with anything but a sound win by Dallas against the woeful Chiefs, looks like it’s a race to the bottom in the NFC East as the Giants and Eagles race to the top?
October 11th, 2009 at 2:16 PM
horrible forward progress call in the giants-raiders game on a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
this leads to a michael bush touchdown. my opponent in fantasy football has michael bush.
if i ever murder someone, he will be an NFL or NBA referee.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:17 PM
you would fit well in my family because picture texts of a odd colored or huge shit is not above our standards.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:18 PM
Ochocinco FUMBLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEE
October 11th, 2009 at 2:19 PM
gotta catch that one, Miles.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:19 PM
@Paolo Now that VT has cracked your rankings I know we’re on the right track.
Ocho fumbles after about a 20 yard run after catch. Ed Reed punched it out.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:19 PM
carr in for the giants.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:19 PM
Seriously? And what was the likely aftermath? Did it get pulled after the expected and righful uproar?
For those following JPQ and Dirtheavy only: And irrespective of course of even Darrell’s opinion and his New Push Coalition?
October 11th, 2009 at 2:19 PM
Anyone just see the play just now during the Giant game. Darrius Heyward-Bey caught a Giant during a fumble return(whistle had blown)but didn’t try to tackle him. It was strange.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:20 PM
I started Romo. It’s the ultimate win-win for me. If he plays well, I win. If he sucks, the Cowboys lose. I might draft him every year!
October 11th, 2009 at 2:20 PM
Moleman moleman! Another humourous poop tale? Please?
October 11th, 2009 at 2:22 PM
So who is coaching Dallas next year? Shanny? Cowher? JIMMY FUCKING JOHNSON?
October 11th, 2009 at 2:23 PM
Just being truly objective CGB instead of like that SEC self-professed omnipresent atheist godly “objective” douchebag who with no surprise is amiss today and thankfully so. He’s probably just high again and he ought to be after yesterday not to mention in hopefully a race to the bottom of the muddy Chattahoochee for good.
October 11th, 2009 at 2:23 PM
