So is Mike Shanahan Going to the Redskins or Not?
1-liner, Media Gossip/Musings, NFL October 12th. 2009, 4:30pmMike Shanahan and the Redskins: Fox’s indefatigable Jay Glazer said the buzz is so great, everyone thinks the hire is imminent. “They think it’ll happen during the season at some point.” Peter King said last night he doesn’t see it happening during the season at all, and King added that Shanahan will want total autonomy, meaning buh-bye Vinny C, who is Daniel Snyder’s boy. Whoever gets the job has to deal with Snyder, which won’t be fun. “Which coach, who is already filthy rich and has bona fide credentials, would want this miserable, no-upside job?” asks Mike Wise of the Washington Post. Oakland East?

Id rather be the coach of the Redskins than the Raiders, easily.
FOX is also reporting that John Fox feels like he is going to get canned any day now, and has told his staff to prepare for it.

all i know is, both the skins and colts have been very very good for my gambling self-esteem, for different reasons

The one who wants to be paid handsomely?

If Dallas would have lost yesterday there would be a run on coaches.
October 12th, 2009 at 4:44 PM
the other big money job is going to be Dallas, and there, it’s just as bad in terms of meddling ownership.

Shanahan/Cowher/Holmgren in Dallas would be huge. At this point I would even take Gruden. Someone needs to start holding players accountable for the shit they do on the field. Regardless of what happens this year a change must be made.

Bring. Back. Schroeder.

They could still prop up Joe Gibbs corpse for another couple years.

I’ve been out most of the day, and was just listening to Myers & Hartman on FoxSports. Myers said the following things:
1. Any coach hired now (ie a Shany type Redskins thing) can only be hired as an INTERIM coach, due to the Rooney Rule. They would then need to open up the hiring process to minorities at the end of the year. This makes it hard, because what if Shany does a shitty job and the Skins decide they don’t want him (Shanny would want security), or say Shanny does a great job and Snyder is now in a bidding war against Jerrah for HIS interim coach (Snyder would want security).
2. There talk that Dungy may be going to the Bucs to either to replace Raheem Morris, or be hired in some capacity to help the organization.
3. The number one team most talked about internally to move to the LA market is the …..Oakland Raiders

The kids are clamoring for some more Spurrier.

Jerry is insane, and he drives people away (Jimmy, Parcells) but he’ll step back a bit for a year or two if he hires a great coach. Snyder just plain sucks.

I really hate when sportswriters criticize anyone else for being motivated by money. When has a sportswriter ever showed loyalty or not taken a higher paid writing gig?
October 12th, 2009 at 4:51 PM
Shanahan is the control freak that tells other control freaks what shirt to wear to the dinner party. No WAY does he go to Washington unless Snyder gives him the reins.
And even then, he’ll just bring Bob Slowik along with him.
October 12th, 2009 at 4:53 PM
So if Tony Dungy were hired in mid-season would Rooney Rule be avoided?
/reverse racisim

Oh and if PK says it won’t happen, then put all money and your house on Zorn’s gone. Anyone know if there’s a line on this in Vegas?
October 12th, 2009 at 4:53 PM
If Dallas would have lost yesterday there would be a run on coaches.
Agreed. Once the first one goes, I can see two or three get fired immediately.

This was this sportswriter who once said some stuff in an interview with some blog and I think it cost him the ability to ever work for a certain powerful network. Does that count?

Funniest moment of the skins game was Portis on the field for one play, the TD after the Hall pick, and going to the bench for oxygen.
The redskins- the gift that keeps on giving.

Hey jobcore, if you want me to attend your institution, don’t tell me that someone named Style went there and graduated.

Has anyone seen Shark Tank on ABC?
October 12th, 2009 at 5:21 PM
Shanahan is going to coach Dallas next year. Buy it.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:21 PM
good show
October 12th, 2009 at 5:25 PM
The big thing that the redskins have going for them from a coaches prospective is that they will always have money to spend if/when the league goes uncapped
October 12th, 2009 at 5:25 PM
That it is, Edward.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:32 PM
I’ll buy it
October 12th, 2009 at 5:32 PM
the problem is that the there is no job security for coaches. if the players know that the coach is gonna be there and that turnover will happen amongst the locker room and not the coaches office they if they perform poorly they will be more likely to perform more to their potential.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:41 PM
and if Glazer’s involved, im buying it.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:42 PM

I wish Urban Meyer was interested in the job.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:57 PM
Think if he wins again this year he takes the jump?
October 12th, 2009 at 7:27 PM
What “gift” did the Redskins give yesterday…they covered for the first time this year.

Great call on the safety by Zorn; yet another stretch play for Portis. That is now 3 failed 4th down plays and a safety that have resulted from the same play.
