TBL’s College Football Top 25
College Football, Video October 20th. 2009, 4:10pm
Go here to see the BCS standings, the USA Today/Coaches poll, and the AP poll. Halfway through the season, there are only a handful of teams – maybe 6-10 – that are worth paying very close attention to. That group includes Boise State, Cincinnati, Iowa and TCU because they are unbeaten. There’s a massive difference in college football between the first few weeks of the season when there are many contenders and the end of October, when the lack of a playoff bracket eliminates everyone. Here’s what we had last week. Still can’t get over the last video below. How do the safeties let that happen?
1 Alabama
2 Florida
3 Texas
4 USC - The computers are idiots.
5 Boise State
6 Cincinnati - Win at previously-unbeaten USF trumps Iowa’s win over 1-loss Wisconsin.
7 Iowa
8 TCU
9 Miami
10 Georgia Tech
11 Oregon – Dangerous tuneup for the USC game at Washington Saturday. (Bonus: Jake Locker NFL read.)
12 LSU
13 Penn State – Boosted the Lions way up here so when they lose to Michigan, everyone can get a good laugh out of it.
14 Virginia Tech – Quietly out of BCS Championship mix with loss at Georgia Tech.
15 Oklahoma State
16 BYU
17 Notre Dame – Two losses in the final minute.
18 Michigan – Will be pulling for the Wolverines – who need a quality win – Saturday vs. PSU.
19 Ohio State
20 Houston
21 Utah
22 Kansas – Clearly looking ahead to Oklahoma this weekend is the reason they gagged at Colorado.
23 West Virginia
24 Pittsburgh
25 South Carolina

ARRRGGHHHHHH WHY IS THAT TEAM AHEAD OF THIS TEAM!!! X-(

V Tech is ranked twice. I believe the 15th spot is correct.
The U is too low
October 20th, 2009 at 4:14 PM
Welcome, TBL. All Wolverine supporters are welcome in these parts.
Please bring your best Terrelle Pryor joke to the party – and no, I don’t mean spence.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:15 PM
We’re so good we are ranked twice!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:15 PM
Penn State is too low. they kill Michigan this weekend
October 20th, 2009 at 4:15 PM
Michigan…why?
October 20th, 2009 at 4:15 PM
#18….
/sigh

(Insert team) is too low. (Insert team) is too high. I have no idea how’d I rearrange the list, nor will I provide any relevant input.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:16 PM
23 Kansas – Clearly looking ahead to Oklahoma this weekend is the reason they gagged at Colorado.
Dude, they are clearly not very good. Horrible D, no Oline, etc… They have Reesing, Meier, and Briscoe. Nothing else.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:17 PM
damn, i fell for it.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:17 PM
the rare triple post.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:17 PM
I swear you want to drive me to drugs with ND at #18. Kansas in the top-25 is fucking hilarious. That Southern Mississippi 7-point win must be amazing. Top-10 looks solid to me.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:18 PM
Because they’ve beaten…..
And lost to…..
October 20th, 2009 at 4:18 PM
Cripes man, didn’t you see The Matrix? You’ll bogart guns, ammo and canned good in case of class warfare, but you’ll piss off the machines with no fear? We’re all fucked now.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:20 PM
Charlie is marching to his first real bowl game win.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:21 PM
Didn’t he win a bowl game against the cast of Lost last year?
October 20th, 2009 at 4:21 PM
Depends who they get. If it is a BCS game (which is unlikely, but possible) they most likely lose. If it is the Gator Bowl against VT, GT or Miami, they lose.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:22 PM
fair enough sanders. penn State is too low because their only loss is to undefeated Iowa, and they finally got their entire 1st team defense on the field last week. in that game, they held Minnesota to 138 total yards and eric decker to 1 catch, in the 4th quarter.
they kill michigan this weekend
October 20th, 2009 at 4:22 PM
This is a freefall from last week when they were….17.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:22 PM
But either way, the Irish are back.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:22 PM
That drive was MUCH MUCH more the fault of the LBs than it was the fault of the Ss.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:23 PM
Kansas should be ranked…
They have one loss. After this week, we can be done with them. Besides, you want to put another Big East fraud in here or something?
October 20th, 2009 at 4:23 PM
College Football sucks this year! Everyone seriously does not want to watch Tebo in the Championship again. I damn sure hate UT enough to not piss on them if they were on fire much less watch them play again, the rest of the top 10 sucks nuts!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:23 PM
/fixed.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:25 PM
osu will still wax PSU, iowa and michigan.

Every movie needs a villian, I guess.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:26 PM
I dislike ND as much as the rest, but they’re going to the BCS. They only need 9 wins. Yes, that’s more ridiculous than Jamarcus russell’s signing bonus.

Nevermind. Wrong video.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:26 PM
To where? Somewhere in the 20-30 range? Sure.
Why?
October 20th, 2009 at 4:26 PM
VT’s so nice, i accidentally ranked it twice.
thanks to the reader for giving me a heads up.
pittsburgh was the team i meant to wedge in there. way to go, Wanny!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:26 PM
@SouvenirCity Why only nine wins?
October 20th, 2009 at 4:28 PM
osu will still wax PSU,
you’re not serious, are you? spence, i’m on record as saying that TP is going to be a beast, but he’s not there right now. and penn state has the linebackers to contain his running.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:29 PM
9 wins gets them to the Gator. They are not ranked now and will not be high enough (14) to get in. They will lose to either Pitt or Stanford (I say Stanford). If they do lose to Stanford that will be thier last game of the regular season, so they won’t be high enough. Gator Bowl it is.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:29 PM
October 20th, 2009 at 4:30 PM
Let’s see. Notre Dame isn’t in the top 25 in the BCS standings. What makes you think they’ll climb high enough to get in?
October 20th, 2009 at 4:30 PM
sir spicious…DEAD serious. because PSU’s OL is a joke.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:32 PM
They’re 6-1. You think there are 25 other teams in college football better than a 6-1 team? Just because they don’t have a lot of talent, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be ranked.
They’ve WON games. And lost a really stupid one. Still good enough for top 25.
Isn’t that the BCS agreement? 9 wins?
I’m just glad Iowa doesn’t have to play Purdue this year
/3 birds with one shotgun shell
October 20th, 2009 at 4:32 PM
That game is going to be painful to watch. Pryor will set back QB’s by 10 years, but Ohio State’s d-line will destroy PSU’s o-line. This game has 13-6 written all over it.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:33 PM
please…aint neither of those sorry ass teams getting to 13.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:33 PM
PSU 5, OSU 2
Worst, game, ever
October 20th, 2009 at 4:34 PM
neutral field, i think ND can hang with anyone except USC, Tex, Ala, UF.
worth noting:
ND beat Purdue … which then beat OSU
ND beat UW … which had beat USC
ND beat MSU … which then beat Mich
October 20th, 2009 at 4:34 PM
I’m fine with 13-6.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:35 PM
Gotta be top 8 in the BCS rankings.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:35 PM
PSU 5, OSU 2
Worst, game, ever
obviously you’ve forgotten iowa 4, penn state 2
October 20th, 2009 at 4:35 PM
Yes it does. They have beaten no one….NO ONE!!! and they lost to a very bad Colorado team. They gave up 36 (I think) points to Iowa State and they are about to lose to Oklahoma. Hell, ND is better than Kansas.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:36 PM
As a ND fan, I have no problem where TBL ranked them.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:36 PM
That’s pretty funny. ND would finish 4th in the ACC Coastal.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:36 PM
neutral field, i think ND can hang with anyone except USC, Tex, Ala, UF.
worth noting:
ND beat Purdue … which then beat OSU
ND beat UW … which had beat USC
ND beat MSU … which then beat Mich
you’re delusional. and the transitive property argument is weak.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:36 PM
But USC and Mich beat ND
October 20th, 2009 at 4:37 PM
It was 6-4, and it still makes me cry.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:37 PM
Holy shit. Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. The Irish LOST TO MICHIGAN!! Who the fuck cares if the beat MSU who beat Michigan.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:37 PM
Nope!
/pours some out for my homey clown
October 20th, 2009 at 4:38 PM
TBL you love ND a little too much.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:38 PM
Notre Dame is going to have to hop skip and jump 11 or more positions to get in. 9 wins aint going to be enough. They’re going to have to run the table because there’s not one win in there that would move them 8 or 9 spots.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:39 PM
The Irish have played two teams with true freshman QBs and lost them both. That shit cracks me up. But yeah, they are definitely back.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:39 PM
So… we shouldn’t even play the games then by this logic. Just put out a preseason poll based on talent and we’ll hand the crystal ball over to whoever is at the top. Or, whoever has the hardest schedule, even if they go 6-6, should be ranked higher than a team that goes 10-2 but plays cupcakes. Listen, I hate Boise State too, but if they win games, then it’s hard to not rank the team.
Never did I think we would digress to a system worse than the BCS.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:39 PM
Hey now, Mister, you take your facts right out of here.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:40 PM
Come on, you gotta have fun with this. See if you can follow along. William and Mary beat Virginia, who beat Indiana, who nearly beat Michigan, who beat Notre Dame. Therefore, William and Mary could hang with Notre Dame.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:40 PM
Keeping it close is just like winning!!!
/ND Fans
October 20th, 2009 at 4:40 PM
Troof. The entire North sucks. And GotG, about what I said last week about Colorado being the only offense I fear less than Neb… I lied. Nebraska is far worse offensively.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:40 PM
VT’s so nice, i accidentally ranked it twice.
thanks to the reader for giving me a heads up
is that all i am now, just a lonely reader?
October 20th, 2009 at 4:40 PM
Yeah, not gonna happen.
This seems about right, but not gonna stop me from going to the game on the off chance PSU gets lucky (like Iowa seems to always get against PSU) and gets a good bounce on special teams or something.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:41 PM
Just to let you know…Pitt lost to the same NC State team (at home) that’s 0-3 in the ACC.
The ACC’s motto: thank god for the Big East.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:41 PM
KENTUCKY GOES TO THE ORANGE BOWL!!!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:41 PM
MLB Umpires have no problem with this.
/bringing it all back to a previous thread
October 20th, 2009 at 4:42 PM
UofM fucking sucks. stop ranking them.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:43 PM
Ah! My first catch of the day!
One game is a fluke. Two games is luck. SEVEN GAMES IS A FUCKING TREND.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:44 PM
Leave the Coastal out of it. That’s a legit division.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:44 PM
This seems about right, but not gonna stop me from going to the game on the off chance PSU gets lucky (like Iowa seems to always get against PSU) and gets a good bounce on special teams or something.
why will Penn State need to be lucky again? how is ohio state going to move the ball?
October 20th, 2009 at 4:47 PM
Let’s see. Boise’s win over Tulsa is better than anything Kansas has done and they also owned a good Oregon team. Kansas has done nothing to warrant being ranked. Zilch. Also, how you got “no one should play the games and we should go by preseason mags” from me saying Kansas has done nothing to warrant being ranked is beyond me.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:47 PM
I once scored 1,000,000 points in Donkey Kong, which was only beaten by Billy Mitchell, who went to went to Chaminade Catholic High School, which Chris Meyers also attended, who works for FOX sports, who is a department of FOX, which also has FOX News, which was lambasted by the White House, which is where Barack Obama resides. Therefore, I know Barack Obama personally.
/college football logic
October 20th, 2009 at 4:48 PM
I am actually far more worried about how PSU will move the ball.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:48 PM
Wrong. They are an AUTOMATIC qualifier if they are top 8; they are eligible if they are top 14, in which case they might as well be an auto qualifier, because they won’t be passed over if they are eligible.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:48 PM
Where’s Arizona in this poll?
October 20th, 2009 at 4:49 PM
thanks Jay, didn’t want to have to explain it again.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:50 PM
Whatever. Might as well have to be top 8, since they have about as much chance as ending up top 14 as top 8.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:51 PM
It’s so bad. WRs who can’t catch and QB who can’t throw to go along with an offensive line that can’t block. I’m hoping Green is given the starts from here on out and they use his running to hurt some teams, but I bet they stick with Lee after reading some stuff. Green is the future and NEB can still go 9-3 this year with a trip to the B12 title game, but they must beat Kansas and Green gives them the best shot to do that.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:51 PM
They always find a way to get Notre Dame in there. 9-3? Absolutely.
/$$$$$’d
October 20th, 2009 at 4:52 PM
don’t I know it…Duke’s got to sweep Wake/UNC/UMD, and get a win from either UVA, GaTech, or Miami to goto a bowl. I doubt it happens, but if it does, I’ll be there, no matter where it is (even Boise).
October 20th, 2009 at 4:53 PM
Your equation of on field talent to legitimacy in rankings:
6-1. One bad loss.
/why are we talking about a team that should be ranked 20-25?
October 20th, 2009 at 4:53 PM
Is it just me, or does everyone else (ACC fans excluded) not have any fucking clue which team is in which ACC division?
October 20th, 2009 at 4:53 PM
can’t wait. if we beat iowa, we get our auto-bid in the TBL Top 25.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:53 PM
I don’t disagree…but 8 and 14 is a pretty significant difference.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:54 PM
Because Notre Dame = page views. Wait, I mean, uh, um….
October 20th, 2009 at 4:54 PM
The computers will hate ND and the voters won’t put them in the top 14 this year. They are unranked now and so many teams that would have to lose in front of them have some weak schedules remaining. The only way ND makes a BCS game is if they win out (which is doable).
October 20th, 2009 at 4:54 PM
No where b/c they lost to Iowa….so Zona must suck.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:54 PM
Not counting as another pretty good Iowa win. TBL knows more than the computers, USC, USC, USC, USC…..the media push has begun.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:54 PM
You are aware that the ACC Atlantic is 0-1 against the Big 12 North aren’t you? Of course you are. As I’m sure you’re also aware that the “legit” Coastal ia only 1-1 against the North. And that one win you got was a fluke win if I’ve ever seen one.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:55 PM
So if/when Oregon beats USC (whom everyone seems to love) and Boise destroyed Oregon then how is Boise not a Top 5 team?
October 20th, 2009 at 4:55 PM
Not only that, but there’s no rhyme or reason to the divisions, or at least very little.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:56 PM
GT, VT, Miami, UVA, Duke, and UNC are in the Coastal. Everybody else is in the Atlantic.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:57 PM
They have divisions? Which one is the crappy division?
/trick question, they both suck
October 20th, 2009 at 4:58 PM
Not with BC still on the schedule.
/Haven’t beaten them since 1954*
//*might not be accurate, but pretty close
October 20th, 2009 at 4:58 PM
The ACC Atlantic is crap. Everyone knows this. I even said so. The Big XII North’s win against the Coastal was against Duke. Congrats are in order I suppose.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:59 PM
Got it.
/Forgot it
October 20th, 2009 at 5:00 PM
So bad in fact that 3 teams from the Coastal are in the top 14 in the initial BCS rankings, and all three have a better than average chance to win out. Suck personified.
October 20th, 2009 at 5:01 PM
@thecassino
Ouch…that cut me deep…
October 20th, 2009 at 5:01 PM
You can see the disparity in conference strengths when you compare the top 3 from each conference:
ACC: VT, Miami, GT
Pac10: USC, Oregon, UW?
Big Ten: OSU, PSU, Michigan
Big 12: Tex, Oklahoma, Nebraska
SEC: Florida, Bama, LSU
SEC> ACC> Big 12 > Big 10> Pac 10 >>>> Little East
October 20th, 2009 at 5:02 PM
I guess I’m just confused why the Atlantic would be thanking the North, even though they don’t have a win against them. And the Coastal’s win was in fluke fashion against a bad offense. Congratulations to you, as well.
October 20th, 2009 at 5:04 PM
Man the ACC Championship Game is going to have a seriously crappy rep from the Atlantic. I guess Clemson is the most likely rep, but who knows?
October 20th, 2009 at 5:04 PM
“if USC played (insert team here) 10 times on a neutral field……..”

October 20th, 2009 at 5:06 PM
this was pretty much the same situation in the Big 12 the last couple years.
October 20th, 2009 at 5:07 PM
Is there a person in the world who agrees with this? I’d guess no, but there are a lot of idiots out there.

October 20th, 2009 at 5:09 PM
Imagine that, a regular season with real consequences! TBL, you didn’t respond to my inquiries about your “perfect” playoff proposal from the other thread.
October 20th, 2009 at 5:11 PM
He said if you just look at the top-3 of each league. If all you did was count the top three the ACC would be up there.
October 20th, 2009 at 5:16 PM
Not second. Probably not third either.
October 20th, 2009 at 5:18 PM
it’s shit like this that makes me glad i was busy this afternoon and didn’t have to pay any attention to this bullshit top 25.
October 20th, 2009 at 5:19 PM
I don’t know. Miami has a win over the B12’s second best team. I think the SEC has a very strong top-2, but LSU is just okay. Same thing for the pac 10. The ACC would have a compelling argument I think.
October 20th, 2009 at 5:24 PM
I’m not sold on VTech
October 20th, 2009 at 5:25 PM
I’m not sold on anyone at this point. This is looking a lot like 07, where a two loss LSU team won the title. Yikes!
October 20th, 2009 at 5:29 PM
I actually think its more ‘06. We’re going to have an unbeaten team (Florida/Bama) and then a mad dash for the one loss team to get in. Then we’re going to have clamoring for a re-match and its gets left in the voters hand. I do believe Texas is losing at some point. To make it more like ‘06 why don’t we just have the team with the inside track of the one loss teams(USC) lose to UCLA again. Just for old times sake.
October 20th, 2009 at 5:31 PM
…and Mich beat ND, and ND beat (barely) MSU, who beat Mich., who beat ND, who beat MSU, who beat Mich., who beat ND, who beat MSU, who beat Mich.
I’m pretty certain that this somehow makes MSU # 16.
/head spinning’d
October 20th, 2009 at 5:37 PM
I agree with this.
/second’d
/third’d
/without USC, no one would know the PAC-10
October 20th, 2009 at 5:38 PM
Good points, I was just talking from the standpoint of how flawed the teams look at this point. The difference between your point is that Michigan and OSU looked pretty dominant all season. Florida has looked far from it so far.
October 20th, 2009 at 5:58 PM
Three wins in the final minute
October 21st, 2009 at 1:11 AM
I hear an echo …we already had this debate the last three days!
