The 76ers Finally Look Normal Again
NBA October 24th. 2009, 11:00am
The NBA diehards are just happy to see basketball again, but to many others, preseason basketball is just as awful, pointless and boring as any exhibition games the NFL or MLB has to offer. When it’s so quiet you can hear every single sneaker squeaking, it’s clear the game is falling a little flat; the buzz is not quite there yet.
However, that doesn’t mean the preseason hasn’t offered some value. One of the more pleasing takeaways so far has to be the Philadelphia 76ers returning to their old, classic uniforms.Â
Simple, clean, effective.
It only took them 18 years, five embarrassing starburst explosions, an actual seven holding a basketball, and one Shawn Bradley to realize that visually appalling decisions can be fixed, but nonetheless, they finally got it right. About time.
As most Philly fans will tell you, the ugliest Sixer jerseys were worn from 1991 to 1993, a rather symbolic, chilling time considering Charles Barkley was on his way out of town and Shawn Bradley, atrociously designed jerseys and shitty basketball were on their way in.

Worst uniform of that era: Sixers starburst, Pistons chess piece, or Gorton’s Fisherman Islanders?
I’m sure there are other nominees

The ones up there at least have decent colors, if a poor design. The Pistons’ and Isles’ both used really hideous blues/greens/oranges for theirs, just bad, bad stuff.

I’m saying Barkley weighed twice as much as Bradley during their playing days and 3 times as much now.

Those Pistons uniforms were really, really bad.
Now we just need the Rockets to switch back.

While we’re on ugly Philly uniforms, it’s time for the Eagles to go back to the Jaworski-era uniforms, or the Cunningham-era uniforms. Those are so much better than the McNabb-era uniforms.
But nothing beats those mechanic uniforms the Phillies wore in the 70s and 80s

Kemp and Z!! the real twin towers.

If you just want run of the mill skyscrapers, that’d be “Dangerous” Danny Spivey and Sid Vicious, and occasionally, “Mean” Mark Callous.

Barad-dûr and Orthanc

Have the Atlanta Hawks ever had nice uniforms?

The blue with green trim Pistol Pete era jerseys were sweet. Those throwbacks in that link are similar, but the green is a bit off.

barkley’s reaction when the sixers new uniforms came out in 1991 – “they look like my daughter got a hold of a box of crayons”. as a season ticket holder, i will be thrilled that they are going back to the simpler court and uniforms….
and while i may be in the minority here, count me as a fan of the phils powder blues:

Orlando is going to tear up the league this season.
I know people hate on these, but I actually liked the Raptors “dino-phase” years.
These were the rage when I was a kid.

The Heat had these and they were awful.
