Daniel Snyder’s Reign of Terror Continues
1-liner, Fans, NFL October 27th. 2009, 3:45pmDaniel Snyder and Tyranny: New policy at FedEx field, home of the dreadful 2-5 Redskins – fans can no longer bring in any signs. Want to say hello to your husband in Iraq? Nope. Want to say something positive about London Fletcher? Too bad. “A spokesman told me that this policy is meant to protect spectators from getting injured by signs, and also to make sure everyone can see the action.” It is Snyder’s team. He can do as he pleases. But this decision is a brick of epic proportions. Hopefully it blows up in his face. [DC Sports Bog]

As a DC resident and hater of obnoxiously deluded skins fans, every piece of news from this franchise is like christmas morning.

Next policy: Everyone will have to wear these at home games.

Yup, things are going to work out just fine for Dan. He’s really thinking clearly now.

Daniel Snyder and the Tranny. Now that’s the headline i really want to see.

However, if I were him (having already made this stupid decision), I might publicly say something like:
“There have been an inordinate number of signs that have offensive language on them, making our stadium less than the fan-friendly place we’d all like it to be. Our security team can not be overwhelmed chasing down every person who does this, so we are forced to make this decision.”

I’m sure the Redskins version of the “Let’s Go Team!” signs that they pass out before some home game——with the huge FedEx logo attached to it——will be okay though.
/those signs are safe
//and transparent

@sportsdork: you’ve provided the perfect example between what a well run team would probably say and what a poorly run team actually did say.

weren’t the Redskins the ones taking bags away from people earlier this year? Oh, and didn’t they bankrupt some old dying lady this year too?
Banner year for Snyder.

This is (one huge reason) why the ‘Skins will continue to fail. DC is occupied by people who aren’t from DC. It’s one of the few cities that hasn’t been crushed during America’s economic struggles, like neighboring Baltimore, Philly and Pitt. Everyone comes here for work and brings along their favorite team with them. Just the worst fucking sports city of all-time.

Ryan Anderson is starting at PF for the Magic tomorrow night. so much for being a “throw in” piece to the Magic’s trade with the Nets

a well run team wouldn’t get to the point where they had to ban signs in the first place. i’m surprised Danny didn’t decide to charge $5 for every sign people brought in.

Ill summed it up pretty nicely. That being said, the Skins are as diehard of a sports franchise as I’ve ever seen. I feel bad for Skins fans, because they suck, really really hard. I don’t live there anymore so I’m not seeing it now, but that city’s false sense of baseless optimism for the Redskins was always pretty shocking. They’ve basically been the same mediocre team for the past 5 years, yet every year everyone in DC is like THIS IS THE SKINS YEAR.
October 27th, 2009 at 4:01 PM
Winner. And it is why Snyder will get away with this, and future offenses to be named later.
October 27th, 2009 at 4:01 PM
Aren’t there like 5+ commenters on here who live in DC but aren’t ‘Skins fans? Case in motherfuckin’ point.
October 27th, 2009 at 4:02 PM
@ill — I don’t think the makeup of DC has anything to do with why the team fails. That isn’t what you’re saying, is it? That team has all the resources it needs to be a contender every year. It just has the wrong decision-makers.

there are plenty of skins fans. they have an inflated perception of their team and its place in the NFL, and believe that every season is going to be a repeat of their 80s glory years, and will loudly tell everyone in earshot when they win free agency each winner. then they start bitching around week 3.

I feel the same way about Ottawa, but I blame it on the fact that we’re a conservative government city.

Daniel Snyder is just pissed off because he can’t beat Contra without the cheat code.
October 27th, 2009 at 4:09 PM
Sure, it has horrible decision-makers. However, it’s this false sense of support that DC has for the team that allows Dan Snyder feel accomplished. The team reflects the city: a large diverse group of liars and underacheivers who receive endless support from a delusional and mislead fanbase. It’s a city run by fucking politics! The team is like a failed term in office!

Which for some reason made me think of parallels between Snyder and Dark Helmet, down to looking like Rick Moranis.

+1
And there aren’t that many ‘Skins fans in DC. I’m willing to bet any other city in the country has more home team fans (percentage-wise) living in the city than DC. Sir, your bar is a case in point. I was one of the 10% of people in there rooting for the ‘Skins. It’s a DC bar for fucks sake!
October 27th, 2009 at 4:14 PM
Daniel Snyder has the right to make any decision he wants since it is his team. This isn’t a communist country, last time I checked. Furthermore, nobody here has the right to criticize the Almighty Snyder.

but every skins game is on local TV, so skins fans can easily stay home and watch. bad example. i’ll give you that there is a higher % of non-skins fans in the DC area than other football town. let’s say 50%. there are 5 million people in the metro area, so 2.5 skins fans (i know every one of those isn’t a skins fans, but indulge me). that’s the same population as pittsburgh-metro area. and plenty to fill fedex and make danny his money. non-skins fans aren’t the problem, bad management is.

Living in NY in the 80’s and even the 90’s when they were really good, and seeing the number of people who rooted for other teams (Bulls, Lakers, Celtics) I can tell you that any national/international city is going to have a nice sized number of people who root for other teams. Be that as it may, DC is Redskins Country. Not only that, but everything from Laurel, Maryland to northern North Carolina is Redskins country. It’s not even a debate. The news leads off every Sunday at 6 and 11 with the Redskins. Snyder owns the sports radio station. You have guys who haven’t played in 30 years still around making money off of being former Redskins. Radio stations making up Redskins raps every week.

Ill, Sean John, and Darrell summed it up so well and I agree as a veteran of DC life for 7.5 years in what has been a police state environment since September 2001.
Synder will get away with this fasci$t ruling in that area too because the local spineless or castrated locals are used to complying duly with such onerous rules and policies.

Great sarcasm by Sarpissa that is right on the mark to expose that hypocrite Mike NYC.
Sir Spicious is right too about the bad management, as they have tried everything with players and coaches since the first Joe Gibbs era.
The best time to run errands free of traffic in DC is indeed during a Redskins game the same as it is in Philadelphia during an Eagles game.
And Sir Spicious is right about week three when they start to bitch, and heaven forbid they win their first game because then the delusions of playoffs and Super Bowls began in the local circlejerking homer media circles.
Again, I say all that after having to hear from these douches for 7.5 years whilst living there and enjoying the first part as my adopted home town, and one of my best friends is a ‘Skins fan yet realises himself what douches most of his colleagues are as not only fans but people.

Aren’t networks like ESPN going to complain that fans can’t make their signs using the networks’ letters?
