Glen “Big Baby” Davis Breaks Thumb Fighting a Former Teammate
1-liner, Fighting, NBA October 27th. 2009, 9:45am
Glen Davis: Boston’s reserve forward broke his thumb over the weekend, and he needs surgery repair it. The injury took place while Davis was fighting a former college teammate who was visiting Davis in Boston. At 6-foot-9, 285-pounds (that weight is generous), we’re wondering who would possibly attack Davis. Here’s the ‘07 roster, ‘06 LSU roster, and the ‘05 roster. Let’s break out the monocle and figure this out. In other Celtics’ news … Rajon Rondo will be part of the loaded 2010 free agent class. [Boston Globe]

You sure he didn’t break it on a cheeseburger?
October 27th, 2009 at 9:47 am
i’d hit him in the nads and run like hell. easy
October 27th, 2009 at 9:49 am
Big Baby > Garnett
October 27th, 2009 at 9:50 am
Based on the picture, are we sure he wasn’t “wrestling” with John Ameachi?
NTTATWWT.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:50 am
He should have played football. He would have made more money.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:51 am
Hey maybe now my Suns can get Rondo.
/Fuck you Robert Sarver
October 27th, 2009 at 9:51 am
Maybe this kid had a growth spurt.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Let’s not.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:53 am
nice cursed
Rajon Rondo will be part of the loaded 2010 free agent class
damn
October 27th, 2009 at 10:02 am
that Rondo news is gigantic.
If the Knicks now can’t get lebron and have to settle for Bosh-Rondo, that right there is enough to be in contention for years to come.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:06 am
He has the same salary as Antonio Gates, and he won’t be a vegetable when he’s older.
Players only go to the NFL when then can’t make the Lig.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:07 am
that Rondo news is gigantic
KG signed till 2012. Rasheed signed till 2012. I agree that news is huge
October 27th, 2009 at 10:08 am
i thought they wont have the $$ to sign 2 top tier free agents in the offseason?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:09 am
Rondo being a fa this summer will be HUUUGGGEEEE for the Knicks. A top class pg will make it easier for LeBronWadeBoshAmare to come to the Empire.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:09 am
the knicks CAN’T sign lebron.
well, they can, but why would lebron go to a team without the max cap space and TO A KNICKS TEAM WITHOUT A 2010 FIRST ROUNDER!??!
/it’s gonna be the nets
October 27th, 2009 at 10:10 am
Are you kidding. I think they have one player on salary after this season
October 27th, 2009 at 10:12 am
/it’s gonna be the nets
Their new Russian owner probably knows LBJ has a thing for tall Russian blondes (like Maria Sharapova) and will promise him a new one every week.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:12 am
I think they have one player on salary after this season
$27 mill on the books in 2010-2011, 6 players. Eddy Curry salary, $11.2
October 27th, 2009 at 10:12 am
jersey…link.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:13 am
Cavs will need a big guy but with Shaq and Z off the books they could sign Rondo. It would be a killer defense and probably a better fit for lbj than fat clogs down low
October 27th, 2009 at 10:13 am
in what world?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:13 am
He has the same salary as Antonio Gates, and he won’t be a vegetable when he’s older.
I don’t think he’s a TE. If he would have been an elite OL, he would have a larger contract than Gates.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:14 am
It is going to be for the most irrational reason ever Spence. He gets to say he’s a knick. He gets to say he plays for New York. I’ve said it once, I’ll say it until he signs somewhere else. LeBron understands that being in his prime in New York and bringing a championship here will make him more than one of the most legendary basketball players. It will make him Gretzky, Ali, Bjorn Borg, Babe Ruth.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:14 am
forgot to account for lower cap, Cavs are stuck
October 27th, 2009 at 10:14 am
Cavs will need a big guy but with Shaq and Z off the books they could sign Rondo. It would be a killer defense and probably a better fit for lbj than fat clogs down low
scary thought. What would they do with Mo Namath and his contract till 2013?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:15 am
Gaddamn Ainge is a shitty GM. So glad he doesn’t have McHale to bail him out again.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:16 am
God damn it I hate Isaiah…
October 27th, 2009 at 10:18 am
that truly is the most irrational reason ever. who the fuck wants to VOLUNTARILY say they’re a knick?
and can we stop pretending because the knicks play in NYC and have been around awhile that they’re actually a legendary team? they don’t have a FRACTION of the history that LA or boston or chicago, or hell, even the pistons have.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:18 am
Play him at the deuce. go small with parker/moon and lbj at 4
October 27th, 2009 at 10:19 am
What makes you think that even if LeBron went to New York that they’d win a championship?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:19 am
If you’re getting a second contract in the NBA, you’ve done better than 99% of all NFL players, and the worst thing that’ll happen to you is that your knees will give out on you. 10 years on either line means you’ll be lucky to hit 50 with some cognitive function left.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:20 am
@SM- Cavs need a big after this season. Dwight isnt going anywhere and i really dont think Lebron is leaving.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:21 am
Yeah but they play at MSG. Although the Knicks don’t get the same mandatory bounce/inflated ranking based on winning game there the way Big East teams inexplicably get for the tooournament.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:21 am
Ring-a-ding-ding.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:22 am
hickson’s much improved over last year, but he’s undersized. i agree with the first part…but brizzy’s got his ticket booked. he gawn.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:22 am
So do show dogs.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:22 am
I can’t speak for those other cities but NY knicks players are on tv all the time on msg be it 50 greatest moments, 360, player profiles etc.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:24 am
All the late 80’s Cleveland Browns players are featured almost exclusively on ESPN Classic.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:24 am
so how is that different than lebron being on espn everyday right now?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:24 am
Are the Knicks getting a new coach? Because D’Antoni was one of the guys that didn’t want Rondo because he didn’t fit in his system. But I am sure he would be willing to admit his mistake now…you know those Italians are not stubborn or anything.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:25 am
If they draft Dexter Pittman and retain LeBron, I could see a string of 6 or 7 titles in 10 years.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:25 am
Hey I don’t support it as a good reason. Well, yes I do, because LeBron gets to be a Knick. But that’s the way people think. If I were LeBron, would I go to the Knicks? Fuck no. But I’m not. The Knicks aren’t a legendary team, but NYC is a legendary city.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:25 am
Go eat a taco!
October 27th, 2009 at 10:26 am
If they draft Dexter Pittman and retain LeBron, I could see a string of 6 or 7 titles in 10 years
Big Sexy couldn’t handle the Beast
October 27th, 2009 at 10:27 am
I don;t know that for sure. But they would have a way better chance with him than without him. Again, I think it’s the opportunity for him to be a legend in New York that will be the most appealing thing for him.
And does LeBron really care about a max contract. He makes so much money in so many different ways that a couple of mil really won;t be that big of a deal for him.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:28 am
right…which is why he’ll spend a year in purgatory, er, new jersey and then move with his boy and the ruskie to brooklyn.
and im willing to bet there’ll be some sweet new nets unis for the new place as well.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:29 am
Was reading the Uni Watch NBA preview yesterday and he pointed out that the Nets took “New Jersey” off their jerseys and are getting shit for it. Most foregone team move ever?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:29 am
so I see the “reasons” why LeBron will go to the Knicks have gotten more ridiculous with every year…now he will leave because he gets to say he is a knick and there will be super kewl highlight show on MSN.
Well im convinced, he’s gone.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:29 am
Are you kidding me? If he doesn’t have a max, he’ll get shit on in the locker room and during games…there’s no way he ever signs for less than the max until the tail end of his career.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:30 am
I heard the new unis will be red and drab.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:30 am
The Knicks aren’t a legendary team
not anymore
October 27th, 2009 at 10:31 am
MMONAST, I hear ya, it’s annoying. But I really feel LeBron is more to blame than the media. He’s had ample time to put all this to rest, and refuses to. I actually do think he’s coming back, but he hasn’t done this organization any favors the way he’s held them hostage.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:31 am
Insightful comment of the day.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:31 am
No one. I repeat, no one, will miss them.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:31 am
having a better chance with the best player in the NBA? NO WAY!!! I DON’T BELIEVE IT!!!
lebron’s already a legend. all NYC would give him is additional fellatio from guidos, a better selection of restaurants and nightlife and…well, that’s about it considering he’s already got the world in his pocket.
it wouldn’t be “just a couple of mil.” loaded or not, leaving $10+ mil on the table in a time when the entire league is shrinking fiscally isn’t just somehting you disregard without addtl thought.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:31 am
so we have moved away from the “he can only make big endorsement $$ in NY” argument
October 27th, 2009 at 10:32 am
I’m talking about in relative terms. Everyone knows Cleveland could sign him for more than any other team can. Duh. But if that as the case, wouldn’t he have already signed his extension. Of course he is going to sign a max contract. But it might not be to the highest bidder.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:33 am
i agree with you 100% cursed, lebron can end it and either say i am staying or going…he loves the attention no doubt
October 27th, 2009 at 10:33 am
so you want lebron to just leave all his leverage on the side just to make you and cavs fans happy?
then again, MJ held the bulls hostage FOR YEARS…and both he and the bulls were better off for it. don’t be a fool, cursed. it’s the smart move that you would’ve done too if you were in his position.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:34 am
The only thing NYC would give LeBron is convenience. For someone like LBJ, time is very valuable, and taking a towncar to an opening or a shoot or to meet a girl not named Savannah is much more convenient than having to board a jet.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:35 am
THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS RELATIVE TERMS!!!
he wouldnt sign an extension because he’s putting pressure on the cavs to make sure they surround him with the best talent possible. if he signs, the front office could just sit back and do nothing, knowing they don’t have to worry abouthim bolting.
it’s smart.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:36 am
You’re ability to blow up my statements to try to discredit me amazes me by the day Spencer. I am sooooo happy all your teams suck.
There are so many companies LeBron doesn’t endorse yet, that 10 mil is easily attainable.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:36 am
Kobe did the same thing with the Lakers. The difference is that people want to play in LA with or w/o Kobe. Nobody wants to play in Cleveland – add to the fact that nobody in the league fully believes that LeBron is going to stay in Cleveland until he signs – thus, we haven’t exactly signed the top free agents over the last five years (Larry Hughes, No Show Mo, David Wesley, Luscious Harris).
October 27th, 2009 at 10:38 am
Thats harsh man, it was the dudes first time ever in the playoffs. I think he’ll be just fine this year.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:39 am
me trying to discredit you? no, you’re doing a fine job of that all on your own.
and those companies will only work with lebron if he’s in NYC? why not just make the easy $10 mil by staying with the cavs?
tell me if this makes sense…”im going to burn this $10 mil just so i can work my ass off and do more bullshit just to make it back.”
the only way this is feasible is if he gets the best of both worlds…and that’d be by going to the nets. the nets have more talent, more cap space, his buddy as owner, a russian with the deepest pockets in the NBA and a move to brooklyn where he’d be able to create his own legacy in the city he wants to while not being saddled with the faggy knicks.
this is just common sense here.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:39 am
i like No Show Mo. I think that is better than Mo Namath
October 27th, 2009 at 10:40 am
i met him at an Outback Steakhouse in westlake…nice guy albeit a shitty basketball player
October 27th, 2009 at 10:42 am
Wasn’t shitty when J-Kidd was distributin’ (or maybe it was Kerry Kittles).
October 27th, 2009 at 10:43 am
in what year have top free agents actually moved? and where exactly have they moved to?
and again, why would lebron sacrifice his earning potential in order to lure some of these “top free agents” that have obviously panned out other places? you mean baron davis didn’t come here? OH NO!!! and i just can’t fathom how we missed out on ben gordon and charlie villaneuva last summer. DAMNIT!!!
October 27th, 2009 at 10:44 am
this could change, but i think that argument is pretty moot considering Gilbert has shown no hesitation dropping coin to bring people in, upgrade facilities, etc.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:44 am
i was pretty upset at the time we didnt get redd or shuttlesworth
October 27th, 2009 at 10:45 am
@mmonasty- you going to the game tonight? if so, have fun. ill be watching on TV
October 27th, 2009 at 10:45 am
Spence. This is what the fuck I have been getting at the entire time. The reasons me and you wouldn’t do something don’t exist for people like LeBron. You can’t use rationale. You just can’t. He won’t go to the Nets. It might be a better fit, but he will not do it.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:46 am
yea, but that was back in the day. you couldn’t fault two 2nd and 3rd tier guys for wanting to cash in when that’s pretty much their only way of doing so.
/yes, i was upset too
October 27th, 2009 at 10:48 am
let’s keep in mind this guy is allowed to make his own decisions when he wants to the way he wants to, and this is multiplied by his value as the world’s best or second-best player. he doesn;t owe fans or anyone else a decision on their terms
October 27th, 2009 at 10:48 am
Here’s the biggest thing. No one cares for the Nets. They have little to no fan base. WIth anybody. There are no die hard Nets fans. That’s all there is too it. The Knicks aren’t a legendary organization by any means. But more people, celebreties, media personnel, whatever cares about your team. With someone like LeBron’s ego and perosna, don’t you think he wants that action?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:48 am
ya got some tickets up in Loudville (top deck), just happy tp be going…who do the magic open with and are you gonna go?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:48 am
no, no, no…EVERYTHING lebron has EVER done has had a purpose, had meaning. he isn’t random, he isn’t free thinking…he’s cold and calculated. everything has rationale. everything has some kind of meaning behind it. he doesn’t just up and do something, he never has.
and lebron realizes that being a great player in NYC isn’t worth shit unless he’s got jewlery to back it up. he’ll go where the rings are.
and if we’re talking best fit, the clippers, as simmons says, are the best fit.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:49 am
Because he is playing now. It would be like him being on the largest tv market everyday 30 years from now…
October 27th, 2009 at 10:50 am
oh, he’s the best…nobody’s making a fuss over duncan, who’s the only other guy in the conversation.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:51 am
@mmonasty- Philly is in town tomorrow night. Unfortunately, i cant go
October 27th, 2009 at 10:51 am
That’s not the point of our argument. You say he goes to the Nets. I say he goes to the Knicks. And who exactly wouldn’t want the opportunity to play with LeBron on the league’s biggest stage knowing he will be there for a while. I bet LBJ knows this.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:51 am
Miami would be best fit using the ‘all other things’ calculation. City, weather, no state tax, East Coast, tons of cap space…
October 27th, 2009 at 10:51 am
you mean like MJ is now on ESPN?
seriously…that argument is completely flawed…if lebron wins a bunch of rings, he’ll really won’t have to worry about any of that other BS no matter where he wins em.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:53 am
The ONE thing me and you find common ground on.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:53 am
*pre-LeBron
October 27th, 2009 at 10:53 am
there’s a difference between wanting the opportunity and the knicks being able to actually add those players. im sure dwight howard would love to play with brizzy wherever, whenever, but is there a chance of that happening? no.
hell, im sure that rudy gay would love to play with lebron as a knick…but too bad the knicks wouldn’t be able to make that happen with $20 mil in cap space.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:54 am
What is the MJ 30 minute shows I am missing?
Your point has a big IF attached. Patrick Ewing (hell even john starks) gets 30 minutes a day multiple times a week. I am not saying its right, or that it should even calculate into anyone’s thinking at all, it is just a fact. (YES network is way worse…)
October 27th, 2009 at 10:55 am
spence, as an interloper here in this hoops discussion, i thought kobe was in the conversation
/put in place by expert
October 27th, 2009 at 10:55 am
sniff…i miss the days of $10 lower bowl tickets to watch ricky davis and darius miles.
/can’t afford tix anymore
//fuckin’ bandwagoners
October 27th, 2009 at 10:56 am
Best Guesses:
Tack Minor (always a troublemaker)
Darryl Mitchell
Darnell Lazare
October 27th, 2009 at 11:00 am
Welcome to the dark side. I’d say make yourself comfortable and stay awhile, but that probably ain’t happening.
/I used to buy Fenway tickets at the box office the day of the game at least 5 times a year in college
October 27th, 2009 at 11:01 am
who the fuck cares about some clip show or best of segment on MSN or YES or whatever network?? I would wager this has literally never once popped up in lebrons mind, not once
October 27th, 2009 at 11:01 am
Another example of some of Kramer’s finest shoots. What a masterpiece.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:03 am
shit, i might be in NYC by then and be able to afford tix. im married to the browns, buckeyes, mickeltits and sergio and temporarily seperated from the tribe. the cavs are just an outlet to watch the world’s best athletes play the most entertaining game.
im a bigger lebron fan than i ever was a cavs fan and have no problem admitting that. i’ll prolly just switch allegiance to his new team, or go to the spurs cuz they’re my backup.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:09 am
LeBron is pumped as fuck to have his own Yankeeography.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:11 am
sniff…i miss the days of $10 lower bowl tickets to watch ricky davis and darius miles.
i would think that nirvana for a serious hoops junkie is to live in a town that doesn;t support its team, so good tickets are easy to get. your team;s talent isn;t that great, but the visitors’ is, and let’s face it, you;re still watchign some of the world’s best giants do incredible things up close
October 27th, 2009 at 11:12 am
I know you’re Kobe baiting here, but I’m sorry, Kobe is pretty much coming into the end of his prime, but can still absolutely take over games pretty much at will. Can you honestly say that about Tim Duncan at this point? 20/10 at 50% shooting is nice, but take TP out of there and Duncan ain’t imposing his will on anyone these days.
/leave David West out of this please.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:16 am
hoops nirvana for a season tix holder is golden state or OKC.
ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY you can say that. dear god, man…duncan is still a defensive force, still the engine that drives that offense, and even if the VASTLY overrated parker is out, they’re still fine. take duncan out from the equation, and you get that stretch where parker went for 40 a night, yet they were under .500.
and im not kobe baiting. there’s nothing to bait…he’s a great player, and i’d take him 3rd if starting a team from sratch behind lebron and duncan, but lets not pretend that he carried a bunch of no-names and role players to four rings like duncan did.
and i hate david west.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:26 am
Kobe just won a title with zero hall of famers playing along side of him. Assuming Tony Parker gets in (when it’s all said and done, he’ll be in, 3 titles, finals MVP, only 27 – shooting over 50% as a pg), other than the anomaly of the 04 Pistons, then you’d have to go back pretty far to find someone who won a title w/o another hall of famer.
Still love Duncan, who’s more than capable of piecing some big games together. But he’s not Kobe right now, he doesn’t change the game that way, he’s overrated on defense at this point and only grabbed 8 boards a game against Dallas in the playoffs last year. (Kobe averaged 5 a game for the entire playoffs).
October 27th, 2009 at 11:28 am
What is your definition of no-names? Someone the public doesn’t know, because if that’s the case, every NBA champion is filled to the brim with no-names.
Signed,
David Robinson, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Steve Jackson (He’s a franchise player. Just ask him.)
Looks like the Spurs did what every NBA champion does: Get a couple of great players and surround them with parts that fit the stars’ skill set.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:32 am
just won A title. not four.
and parker is not a hall of famer. please. so instead you have duncan, who was the centerpiece for four different title winning teams, with four drastically different rosters, and the best player’s to join him were an already over-the-hill david robinson, a floppy scorer who’s more sizzle than steak and a tiny PG who can’t shoot outside 15 feet and hasn’t played defense…ever.
pau gasol is better than anything duncan’s ever had.
and now, with duncan having much less responsibility thanks to mcdyess and jefferson, as well as a healthy floppy scorer and midget PG, you really wanna bet that he isn’t a dominant force? plus he’s healthy and had a long, for a spur anyways, offseason and heading into the point of his career where he knows this is his probable last run?
and even then, you call his D overrated? wow. there isn’t a good defender on that team outside of him. yet it’s still overrated?
and im willing to ignore a bad playoff series when he’s had, oh, about a hundred fantastic ones.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:35 am
please…parker and ginobli are ridiculously overrated. capn jack is fantastic but was only there for a year. d-rob was over the hill.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:36 am
there are a slew more nba posts coming. relax. breathe.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:38 am
I’m forecasting, but I think it’ll be tough to keep him out when his career his done. He’ll have the points for a pg (more so than most), he already has the titles, the scoring in the paint for a 6′1 dude is actually pretty historic…he has a finals MVP. I bet he gets in.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:42 am
lets see how TP does without duncan.
im willing to be he blows. relatively of course, but duncan does so much that you can only appreciate by watching on TV. when all those perfect screens and picks are gone, and the best passing big man of his generation this side of c-webb is retired, lets see what he does.
but those three rings? he was the MVP of one, riding the pine in the first and a role player in the middle. not fantastic.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:44 am
Um, there isn’t anyone in the league that can keep Parker from getting into the lane and he’s a great finisher for his size. I’m not sure what constitutes overrated, but he consistently dominates Steve Nash, CP3 and Deron Williams. None of those three can guard him worth a damn. Conversely, Parker can’t guard them either, but then again, we are talking about the four of the better point guards in the league.
As for Ginobili, I’m not sure he’s overrated in the sense that he isn’t made out to be a superstar. He’s simply a very good player and I think the credit he gets reflects that.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Tony Parker is a top 5 PG imo
October 27th, 2009 at 11:48 am
No way Parker is a hall of famer at this point. While he’s come into his own the last couple seasons, he’s only 16-5 for his career, playing with the greatest PF of all time. He’s also terrible defensively and can’t really shoot from the outside accurately. He’s also playing in the NBA at a time were the rules give PGs a distinct advantage. If he keeps it up and wins a title or two without Duncan, or as the lead dog on a Spurs team with Duncan, I’d say he’s in. But saying he’s a hall-of-famer is premature.
October 27th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Guys, if Tony Parker ends his career tomorrow, then yeah, he’s not a hall of famer. Dude has 10 more years to add to his already impressive career. How can people call Parker overrated but think CP3 is some freak? Parker is much more reliable at this point IMO.
