If Only Lying About Drug Use Were This Easy

Andre Agassi Enjoyed Crystal Meth: In 1997, Andre Agassi suffered through the worst year of his career – a wrist injury helped drop his ranking to 141 – and he was having second thoughts about his marriage to Brooke Shields. So he did crystal meth. “There is a moment of regret, followed by vast sadness. Then comes a tidal wave of euphoria that sweeps away every negative thought in my head. I’ve never felt so alive, so hopeful — and I’ve never felt such energy.” When a drug test came back positive, he lied to the ATP about the drug use – claimed his assistant had spiked his drink – and they bought it. Who hasn’t?
October 28th, 2009 at 9:51 AM
Felt the same way after seeing American Tail.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:52 AM
Wasn’t that time period the bottom of the barrel for Agassi?
So not surprised.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:56 AM
There was somebody, and I won’t say who (Jay) shitting on Andre Agassi for putting this in his book, as if he were an attention whore for admitting to the white trash wonder drug.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I have much respect for the way Andre Agassi grew up not only as a tennis player, but as a person. If this was his rock bottom, it only makes what he did with himself all the more impressive.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:57 AM
still though, crystal meth? all the meth heads that I’ve dealt with around here are a frightening bunch.
how long do you figure he was doing it?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:01 AM
I thought Agassi lived in Vegas, how long did he live in St Louis?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:01 AM
how long do you figure he was doing it?
Given that he’s revealing this to sell books…probably once or twice.
If he had fallen into deep meth abuse, he would never have had the ability to come back to the level he came back to.

Plenty of labs out in the desert. Live very close to the “meth capital of the world” of San Bernardino.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:03 AM
maybe. but he definitely wouldn’t have been able to comeback as quickly as he did.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:04 AM
Hell, why do you think i’m still up?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:05 AM
maybe. but he definitely wouldn’t have been able to comeback as quickly as he did.
Exactly. He’d have been losing teeth on the hard courts.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:05 AM
why are people giving him shit for trying to sell books? of course he put it in to sell books. every last detail is in there to sell the goddam book. that’s what you do when writing a memoir.

Maybe. They change it every year. Fresno too.

i still want to know how people fall into using meth.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:12 AM
Given his rise to the top, it’s obvious we better look into Meth as a PED… Bonds did meth 4x a day… So did George Washington … Martha Washington would have it ready for him, everyday George would come home, she would have some meth waiting for him, man, when he come in the door, man, she was a hip, hip, hip lady, man.

it used to be readily available in almost all rural areas, and very cheap, relative to the hard drugs.
I know I’ve never seen it in person, and would be skeeved out if I did. I’ve never seen heroin either.

Jackson County Missouri and Jefferson COunty Missouri mock your primitive little California meth capital.

+1 for the Dazed and Confused quote.

Seen it a decent amount, worked with a bunch of people who did it, only had one good friend who got on it after I knew him, one of the few physical altercations I’ve ever gotten into. It’s a dumb drug, it’s dumb how it’s made, it’s dumb what it does to your body, it isn’t even marketed properly. Do not understand it, do not understand the mentality that gets you to do it (and at some point in the past I’ve done pretty much all of the drugs).
October 28th, 2009 at 10:21 AM
Weed and meth get more coverage here than the NHL. Or was the “Sydney” Crosby link this morning TBL’s hockey coverage for the week?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:22 AM
Met someone in de-tox who claimed he came in his shorts the first time he slammmed meth. Not sure if it’s the truth, but it was hilarious the way he said it. And I know lots of dudes in the Salvation Army who were in prison and they said heroin was everywhere.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:22 AM
Man I miss the early 90’s when ads were just against pot. Meth ads are pretty disturbing

October 28th, 2009 at 10:22 AM
Yeah, I can see him doing meth.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:24 AM
Do not understand it, do not understand the mentality that gets you to do it (and at some point in the past I’ve done pretty much all of the drugs).
The mentality starts with “holy shit this feels good!” Then the next day “damn that was awesome, and I can feel that good again”. Thus the vicious cycle begins. You get to the point where its not nearly as fun, or as good, but now you NEED it. Went through it with the opiate family.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:27 AM
I understand DRUG USE. I do not understand meth use. It’s made by retards in trailers. It is a white trash poor drug. It doesn’t sound enjoyable (you are one of the few people who have sold it as a great long term experience, generally I’ve heard it described as a less great heroin high followed by a combination heroin/coke comedown)
October 28th, 2009 at 10:27 AM
I’ve learned to accept the lack of NHL coverage and have taken my hockey needs elsewhere.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:28 AM
And it does more damage to your mind body than any other drug option.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:29 AM
i know i’d have a better understanding of it if mad men was presented w/o commercial interruption my Meth Users of America.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:30 AM
Oh, I know it’s not a great long term experiance. I’m not an “upper” kind of guy. I have dabbled though. I met alot of addicts who enjoy the comedown because of the unfamiliar feeling of relaxation. A heroin comedown, for an addict at least, is hell. I hope I haven’t ruined my rep…
October 28th, 2009 at 10:32 AM
Jackson County Missouri and Jefferson COunty Missouri mock your primitive little California meth capital. Taguchi
This is true.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:32 AM
And yes it’s less great than a heroin high, though very different. Then again, everything is less great than a heroin/opiate high.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:32 AM
You wouldn’t. But if Don Draper was smoking meth in a bathroom stall at classy parties, or if the “fun” characters in a teen comedy were always doing it before a wacky adventure/scooby doo talks, if these things are done over and over again (like with coke and pot), then you will naturally have better associations with them.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:34 AM
Wait are you comparing coke and pot to meth? And better yet you should not even have pot and coke in the same class of drugs. Where is Spencer?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:34 AM
Meth was invented for people who couldn’t afford cocaine.
It is the weird, rural, toothless cousin of it’s urban friend, crack cocaine. In reality, they are both in the same economic strata.
This is sad, but true. The hockey fans that comment here are very literate, so I would think one could be recruited.

They aren’t. One is a narcotic, the other is a stimulant.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:39 AM
It has nothing to do with their class (which by I assume you mean danger, I guess, since an illegal drug is an illegal drug and pot and coke obviously aren’t the same kind of drug and coke is more closely related to meth than pot), it has to do with their associations. It’s interesting that you find coke to be pot’s equivalent though.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:42 AM
It’s interesting that you find coke to be pot’s equivalent though.
Is that meant for me? I don’t think that. If your talking to me.

October 28th, 2009 at 10:43 AM
I did not say that at all. I said the opposite. Pots equivalent is booze. IMO
October 28th, 2009 at 10:45 AM
dude, my name is Sparty, i’m a RECOVERED heroin addict.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:45 AM
What does IMO mean?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:46 AM
whoa whoa whoa whoa. are you talking about a coming down off a speedball? or do you mean heroin or coke? the come down from coke is this: Sleep. Eat. Sleep some more. Eat again. Go back to sleep.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:48 AM
oh. I thought this meant pot and coke together shouldn’t be compared to meth. Anyway, this is getting away from the original point that you already have to be making some poor life decisions before meth is even brought up in popular culture (and, probably, reality) while frequently coke/pot are part of a successful/fun lifestyle.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:48 AM
in my opinion
October 28th, 2009 at 10:49 AM
there is no equivalent to pot. that’s why it is retarded that alcohol is legal and pot isn’t. the most dangerous detox is alcohol, and alcohol can fuck your health up long term more than anything else as well. meaning the drug itself. obviously, other dangers come with IV drugs, but just meaning drug.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:49 AM
The comedown from coke in my experience is can’t sleep. can’t sleep. lay in bed and feel awful. can’t sleep. Wish you had more coke. Wish you never did any coke. twenty hour later sleep.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:51 AM
Again, I’m not saying this is reality. I’m saying that this is how they’re frequently portrayed in popular media.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:51 AM
well yeah, you are wired for awhile and wish you had more. the sound of birds in the morning is the most unpleasant sound ever. but the actual detox from it is nothing.
