Iowa’s BCS Title Game Chances Take Major Hit: Leading Rusher Out for the Season
College Football October 28th. 2009, 9:15am
Iowa is just four victories away from a potential spot in the BCS Championship game, but the Hawkeyes will have to pull it off without leading rusher Adam Robinson, who was lost for the season with an ankle injury. Robinson, who rushed for over 100 yards in wins over Arizona and Iowa State, and collected over 100 all-purpose yards in the win at Penn State, will be replaced by a true freshman from South Dakota, 18-year-old Brandon Wegher. This probably won’t matter in Iowa’s next two games – home to Big 10 dregs Indiana and Northwestern – but good luck at Ohio State, freshman. [Des Moines Register]

won’t impact the team that much…just plug another in.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:19 AM
won’t impact the team much…cuz they suck.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:20 AM
lol
October 28th, 2009 at 9:21 AM
Robinson’s a FR also – kind of a moot point.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:22 AM
just plug another in.
they already did that once this year, right? This their second plug in at that position.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:24 AM
Iowa vs. Oregon in the Rose Bowl, huh?
FEEL THE EXCITEMENT!
October 28th, 2009 at 9:24 AM
are these supposed to be super impressive numbers?
October 28th, 2009 at 9:26 AM
won’t impact the team much…cuz they suck.
Amen.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:27 AM
Please spare me another BCS title game that includes a Big Ten team.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:27 AM
won’t impact the team much…they weren’t going to the title game anyways.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:27 AM
are these supposed to be super impressive numbers?
I don’t think he’s saying the kid they lost is Herschel Walker, but that he was a productive player on a team that could only beat a really, really shitty team as time expired.
Everybody all week’s been pipe dreaming Iowa (and TCU) into the BCS game for the fun of it, but they were already not that good. Now they’re worse, even if it’s only in depth.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:27 AM
starter was redshirt freshman who got bulk of the carries with true freshman. now just a true freshman to carry the load. 20 carries a game for this guy?
Hello, Independence bowl
October 28th, 2009 at 9:27 AM
I’m hoping that we get a GT-Iowa matchup in the Orange Bowl.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:30 AM
please…ohio state is gonna be in the rose bowl. iowa and penn state can get fight over the capital one bowl.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:35 AM
Uhm. The Independence Bowl will have an SEC team playing a Big 12 team. I like Auburn and Iowa State’s chances much more than Iowa’s.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:35 AM
The most entertaining bowl game for tOSU would be against the Gamecocks.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:36 AM
Independence Bowl?
Pretty sure Iowa will still be in a Jan 1 Bowl Game
October 28th, 2009 at 9:38 AM
MSU is a mediocre team. Iowa won on the road. if they lose any game this year before the bowls, it will be to ohio state, on the road. then everyone will rejoice that and call them frauds on here, just because they don’t like Iowa. the numbers he used were not impressive, they were pedestrian. it shows that iowa just wins ugly.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:38 AM
I don’t think he’s saying the kid they lost is Herschel Walker, but that he was a productive player on a team that could only beat a really, really shitty team as time expired.
wait, are we talking about alabama now?
October 28th, 2009 at 9:39 AM
just like OSU did in 2002.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:41 AM
College Football is pretty shitty this year. Im waiting for Florida, Alabama and Texas to lose. Then it gets interesting.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:46 AM
tough loss for Iowa. I was really impressed watching that game winning drive to beat Mich State.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:47 AM
this will be addressed later.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:48 AM
I am starting to believe Texas is better than Bammer and Florida.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:50 AM
I concur.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:55 AM
I am starting to believe Texas is better than Bammer and Florida.
That’s funny.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:56 AM
it is? how so? Texas is playing defense this year, that is undeniable, and have a much better offense.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:00 AM
Is there a defense that can get in their ass like OU did?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:01 AM
Iowa.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:02 AM
agreed, this, word, yes.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:03 AM
It’s funny because Texas has played a legit team yet. OU lost their QB (early) and best OL in the Red River Rivalry, and never had their star TE. The rest of their schedule has been a fucking joke, and other than this weekend’s game, they don’t have another real threat left (including the Big Ten title game). So they’re playing defense this year? Against who? Colorado? Ha!
October 28th, 2009 at 10:05 AM
agreed, this, word, yes.
Tru Dat
October 28th, 2009 at 10:08 AM
last year people complained that the Big 12 didn’t play defense. now they have a team doing just that, and suddenly it is because the competition sucks. sorry, not true.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:11 AM
I assume this is because of Alabama’s stumble against Layla Kiffin’s husband? Is it not possible that Tennessee might actually not suck?
And, I do like Texas possibly as a #2, but they have a laughable schedule.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:11 AM
BCS Buster? Do they play Nebraska?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:12 AM
between Florida, Bama and Texas, it doesn’t look like anybody’s getting blown out in the NC game this year. Which is good.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:14 AM
Fo shizzle my nizzle.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:14 AM
Every team has played frauds. Especially Alabama. Unable to score a TD against Tennessee at home? Even UCLA did that shit…in Tennessee.
Bama will be exposed against a legit team, just like last year when they played the mighty Utes.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:15 AM
I really want Iowa to run the table, honestly. I want this to happen. I need them to go and beat someone for a national championship. I want chaos to ensue.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:15 AM
Who are they playing defense against??? Other than TT, you they’ve faced the 43rd(OU), 63rd(ULM), 77(MIZ), 92(UTEP), 101(WYO), and 109(COL) ranked offenses. I’m not saying that Texas isn’t good, but to say that they are playing much better defense this year is a stretch.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:18 AM
I want chaos to ensue.
I also want this. I want there to be 5 undefeated teams at the end of this year.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:19 AM
Every team has played frauds. Especially Alabama. Unable to score a TD against Tennessee at home? Even UCLA did that shit…in Tennessee.
I’m not going to make excuses, they played like shit and should have scored more pts. But I don’t think that UT is a bad team. The UCLA game was the 2nd game of the year.
Bama will be exposed against a legit team, just like last year when they played the mighty Utes.
Without Mr. Bitch Tits, I might add.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:20 AM
If Iowa losing to Ohio State means we don’t have to see either team in a prominent bowl game, then I guess I’d have to say “Go Ohio State.”
I’m getting really sick of the AP and coaches polls giving the Big 10 way more credit than they’re due. Iowa shouldn’t even be in the Top 10.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:22 AM
now this was funny.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:25 AM
I’m getting really sick of the AP and coaches polls giving the Big 10 way more credit than they’re due. Iowa shouldn’t even be in the Top 10.
As much as I agree with the 1st part… that’s insane.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:25 AM
Iowa’s beaten as many ranked teams as USC and Florida. More ranked teams than Texas. TCU’s wins have now all come across teams that are unranked. They are undefeated. Why shouldn’t they be in the top 10?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:26 AM
Give me a fucking break. Ohio State ruined it for the Big 10. They are black ballin the Big 10 now.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:27 AM
Yeah cause the SEC really deserves all that credit what with teams like Florida blowing teams away and officiating constantly handing them games. God forbid a team like Iowa goes out and beats everyone on their schedule. Oh and that Big Twelve OU/UT slopfest that everyone got to witness really helps their case against the Big Ten
October 28th, 2009 at 10:28 AM
This is why women shouldnt be allowed to Vote or drive.
/Texansfan
October 28th, 2009 at 10:28 AM
really? there are 3 big 10 teams in the top 25. wisky is the only other one receiving votes and not even close to jumping back in. the big 10 had 2 teams to start the fucking season. what love is everyone talking about?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:29 AM
You know who’s not getting enough love in the polls? Notre Dame. They’ve only lost two games, and both were in the last minute!
October 28th, 2009 at 10:30 AM
How pissed will you be when ND gets a BCS berth?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:33 AM
If it’s the Orange Bowl, so be it. That’ll be fun.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:33 AM
realistically ND’s chances are good for getting a BCS berth, which sucks…but its true. They need to win all of their last 6, with only 1 real tough game in there (@ Pitt). Get ready for the Clausen hype machine folks.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:35 AM
How pissed will you be when ND gets a BCS berth?
Not as pissed as you when they get trounced by TCU, after a month of you making wagers.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:36 AM
DOn;t forget Stanford. Road game and they run the ball effectively. Pure ND kryptonite. But Pitt is going to be Charlie’s biggest game of his career. They are going to be top 15, maybe top 12 by then… ND SHOULD be top 20 by then… big game.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:37 AM
I don;t know how you became my foil on this site, but I like it. We’ll talk more on this in a month.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:41 AM
How pissed will you be when ND gets a BCS berth?
Send those mofos back out to Hawaii.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:41 AM
Iowa should be somewhere between 10-15. This has NOTHING to do with the SEC. It has to do with the fact that the Big 10 is one of the shittiest football conferences in the NCAA. Have you people even watched a Big 10 game this year?
As for Iowa beating ranked teams, THOSE TEAMS SHOULDN’T HAVE EVEN BEEN RANKED IN THE FIRST PLACE! Penn State at the time maybe should have been in the top 25 but definitely not the top 10.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:43 AM
Notre Dame: best WAC champs in over half a decade.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:45 AM
I don’t know how you became my foil on this site,
it works in cycles, I think. You root loudly for my least favorite college team, and you root the loudest for the biggest douche on the team (that’s Tate).
Plus, you think Memphis is going to win 50 NBA games. And I needed a friendly nemesis.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:49 AM
SG-Love ya but I disagree. Just let it all play out.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:49 AM
ding, ding, ding!
And, as much as I hate Penn State, that is your best Big Ten team this year. And, their #12 ranking is as high as they should be.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:52 AM
I don;t really root for Tate, I just support the fact that he is making some of the most disgusting plays in football. But I have always made it clear. Floyd>Tate.
As far as Memphis goes, I really thing the bottom half of the 8 teams that play in the West won’t be as good as people think. Memphis looks ripe for a ‘where the fuck did they come from”. Drink that Kool aid son.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:54 AM
who then sportsgal should be ranked high? has one team played both 1)a great schedule, and 2) looked good doing it? iowa is winning games against ranked teams. they haven’t looked great doing so, but they’ve won. who else is doing that?
October 28th, 2009 at 10:57 AM
And, as much as I hate Penn State, that is your best Big Ten team this year. And, their #12 ranking is as high as they should be.
this is homer’d, but here goes. they struggled earlier with one or both of their star linebackers winning games and their o-line looking suspect. now that both lee and brown are in no one is moving the ball (shitty comp or no it is true), and after a shuffling the o-line is playing pretty well. they run the table and win a BCS game.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:57 AM
I don’t mean to hate on the Big Ten. The Big Ten will be back as a football powerhouse–possibly as early as next season. It’s just ludicrous that Iowa is even talked about in the same sentence with “BCS Championship”. Ohio State isn’t even the best team in the state. And, Penn State–who were just defeated by Iowa–are most likely the strongest team in that conference.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:57 AM
they sure proved it at home during a whiteout against Iowa.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:58 AM
with one or both of their star linebackers winning games
should be missing games
October 28th, 2009 at 10:59 AM
when will everyone realize that college football is mediocre this year?
October 28th, 2009 at 11:01 AM
when will everyone realize that college football is mediocre this year?
who hasn’t realized that? Anybody can see that. There’s far too many Team A beat Team B who Beat Team C who beat Team A scenarios for anybody to think anybody’s too good.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:02 AM
when will everyone realize that college football is mediocre this year?
Shhhh… As a ‘Skins fan, it’s all I have left.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:03 AM
but nobody just comes out and says it.
my point is coming out and saying how shitty the big 10 is stupid. everyone is down this year, so there isn’t anymore of difference between the big 10 and the Big 12, Pac 10 and SEC as there was last year.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:09 AM
There were a lot of teams that were ranked ahead of Iowa and lost. If we are going to start this, its ludicrous that they are in the top 5! Talk, well lets talk about how ludicrous it is that Texas is number 3. They’re best win is to a team who lost their recently injured qb on like the 8th play of the game. USC lost to Washington…. Washington!!!! Maybe Iowa doesn’t have the makeup of a top 5 team, but there are top 5 teams who don’t have a resume as good as they do. I’m sorry, I like my best teams in the country to have won games on the field vs good competition.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:12 AM
Maybe all the conferences have taken a step down this year, but the Big 10 has been shit for at least 5 years.
Look at the way Michigan leaped into the Top 25 after two victories at home (one was against Western fucking Michigan). Ohio State was put in the top 10 before the season was even played and still managed to stay ranked even after losing to PURDUE!! Purdue, people. May I remind you Purdue has won a whopping THREE GAMES this season!!!
October 28th, 2009 at 11:13 AM
FNL debuts on DirecTV tonight.
/DISH subscriber punching the monitor
October 28th, 2009 at 11:14 AM
I dont know that “college football is mediocre” just because their isn’t a USC/Tex 1/2 running the table. Games have been close, teams have been upset, I’ve been to a few diff stadiums and tailgated (and thats all that really matters). I fully agree with sparty that to say “Team X” or “Conference Y” sucks is ridiculous. No one is standing out and everyone (even the miiiighty SEC) is pretty much on equal footing this year. I will enjoy the final 6 weeks and dont really care who is playing in the title game.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:15 AM
All this talk about Purdue is making me hungry for some tacos.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:19 AM
I see what you did there… you sneaky son of a bitch you.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:19 AM
Yeah yeah, we get it sportsgal, USC has won 10 straight championships and if an non-SEC team faced an SEC team they would run from the field scared for their lives. Go watch a little more ESPN and stop being a moron.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:26 AM
Great argument, Coop. I seem to recall all of my comments starting off with “SEC RULEZ!!!” and “I love USC!”
But thanks for playing, dummy. Continue to watch ESPN day in and day out because they’re not at all biased.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:40 AM
edginess…
October 28th, 2009 at 11:49 AM
hello capital one bowl
October 28th, 2009 at 11:51 AM
As an Iowa fan…..I’m just enjoying the season and being 8-0!!!!! I don’t care if everyone thinks they suck, b/c Iowa is 8-0 and has won 11 straight games….which only Florida can top. During that stretch of games, Iowa has beat PSU home/away, South Carolina (SEC), Arizona (Pac-ten), at Iowa State (Big 12), at Wisky, at MSU, Michigan. That seems like a decent schedule to me.
Iowa might lose a couple down the stretch, but I’m enjoying every week!
October 28th, 2009 at 12:48 PM
Winning a national championship in college football isn’t about being the best team. It’s about being consistent, thereby winning every game on the schedule.
A 16 team (or even 8 team) playoff would help determine the best team, because the issue would be solved on the field.
Since the national championship game is determined by non-playing humans and computers, it’s about the consistency. They like teams that win all of their games.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:02 PM
Epic, some fan. Iowa has won 12 in a row.
