Vince Young Will Start for Tennessee This Week
1-liner, NFL October 29th. 2009, 1:30pmVince Young: Enigmatic Texas legend Vince Young will start at QB Sunday against Jacksonville. Did Jeff Fisher cave to pressure from his owner? Fisher will talk about the decision at 3 pm. Either way, we’re thrilled to have been right about this back in August. Is anyone really surprised ancient Kerry Collins crumbled? He was serviceable last year and the Titans’ defense (plus Chris Johnson) carried Tennessee to the playoffs. Anyone could see the significant dropoff coming. Young has to be the starter for at least the next three games. The rest of this lost season would probably be best. If he’s awful, and doesn’t appear to have a future with the team, obviously think QB in the draft. [Tennessean]

Still waiting for that Colts dropoff you’ve been railing about for three years, soothsayer.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:32 PM
Vince young on MNF back in his home town. Great.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:33 PM
it happens to every team bsanders. You guys are unbelievable
October 29th, 2009 at 1:34 PM
So the Titans want to be 0-16?
October 29th, 2009 at 1:36 PM
I’m just a fan, but I appreciate the inclusion in their success.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:37 PM
Ah, but they’ll be a very entertaining 0 – 16 team.
/IMO, Collins was a better QB than people give him credit for.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:38 PM
I’m taking the Titans (-3) this week because of this alone.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:39 PM
he was just one of the few QB’s this year with a worse arm than chad pennington.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:39 PM
Apparently, VY hasn’t heard the Titans are facing the best team in the league Sunday.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:40 PM
I like Whitlock’s take on the situation. If the moustache is hesitant to start VY when the team is 0-6, how bad must VY look in practice?
October 29th, 2009 at 1:41 PM
Bud Adams wants him to be the QB. It’s the same thing as JaMarcus Russell in Oakland with the difference that Jeff Fisher has a track record of working with good and great QBs.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:41 PM
What are you talking about? All VY does is win games!
October 29th, 2009 at 1:41 PM
as a Titans fan, all I can think to say is “fuck”.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:41 PM
Collins is a Pro Bowl QB…when he wants to be. Problem is, he’s a moody little bitch who phones it in at the first sign of adversity.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:43 PM
When they bring back Chris Mortensen’s kid, we’ll know.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:43 PM
You talkin’ about Collins or Jeff George?
October 29th, 2009 at 1:44 PM
actually, i only had the Colts falloff happening last year. Schedule coming with offseason/preseason junk led me to believe that. And if not for that mother*$&*T@^ Sage Rosenfels …
October 29th, 2009 at 1:44 PM
Too bad they STILL don’t have anyone for him to throw it to. Or will Justin Gage all of a sudden become awesome?
October 29th, 2009 at 1:45 PM
i remember young crying like a bitch when he lost in week 17 to the patriots his rookie season. Hes hard to understand. He hates to lose but has no work ethic
October 29th, 2009 at 1:45 PM
Mardy Collins?
Doug Collins?
Jackie Collins?
Chris Collins?

Ifs and buts and bloggers with nuts…

He led an expansion team to the NFC Championship, and a good but not great Giants team to the Super Bowl.
He was a good QB, but this is what happens almost everywhere he goes. Has a great season and then is run out of town on a rail two years later.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:49 PM
kubiak is to blame. All they needed to do is run the ball to prevent the sagencopter. This year he doesnt put the foot on the pedal and its almost cost them 2 games.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:50 PM
Collins is a 2-time pro bowler, who QB’d 2 different teams to the NFC Championship and played in 1 Super Bowl. He even hung decent numbers on those crappy Oakland teams. He’s far from a Hall of Famer, but he definitely could be characterized as a better than average QB.
All in all, a solid career for a guy who did everything he could, at one point, to derail his own career.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:51 PM
i don’t think he’s that hard to understand. he thinks things should be handed to him and he’s upset when they aren’t. he’s got a natural skill and he thinks that’s enough to get it done.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:52 PM
all true, JD.
operative word: WAS a pro-bowl QB. had his moments.
he’s washed up.
was running on fumes at the end of last season, IMO. lost Johnson in playoff game and looked completely clueless.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:53 PM
As soon as I saw Vince was starting I ran to the library to put money on the Jaguars. Thanks for the free money.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:55 PM
Dammit, I hate that they don’t hold a Sunday night game during the World Series. Such crap.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:56 PM
cause that’s where the book(ie)s are?
/kicks self in ass
October 29th, 2009 at 1:56 PM
and sanders, dont act like during that game last year, with indy on the ropes and looking at a rough season, you weren’t nervous.
texans hang on to win that one and …
ah, blast
October 29th, 2009 at 1:56 PM
Still, betting on the Jags? What if Mike Sims-Walker decides to get laid again and they play like they did in Seattle. They, the Texans and the Seahawks are the most bi-polar teams in the NFL.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:57 PM
Whenever I read a Vince Young post on this site I can’t help but think of August West.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:57 PM
I think there’s a MAC or a Big East game or something on ESPN that night.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:57 PM
the owner wants the young dude who is making a decent chunk of money to play. it isnt like he is telling fisher which plays to run. it doesnt take a genius to see that whatever fisher is doing this year isnt working.this article is good at explaining it.

Or mize, cause I was on campus and skipped class. I’m a degenerate.
Jay: I would bet on a Special Olympics team vs. Vince Young. I wouldn’t even blame someone for not taking the points.
October 29th, 2009 at 2:01 PM
Kenny Britt is a good wideout. Too bad he’ll never see a pass.
October 29th, 2009 at 2:01 PM
You missed, let it go. Won’t be the last time you’re wrong, I’m sure.
October 29th, 2009 at 2:02 PM
So the Titans want to be 0-16?
Well it’s not as though Collins was taking pro-active steps to prevent this. Might as well roll the dice and see if Young can find his form. The season is lost anyway.
October 29th, 2009 at 2:02 PM
I think he still writes for the Titans’ SB nation blog. I bet they’re happy over there right now.
October 29th, 2009 at 2:04 PM
For some fun, take a look at the stats against the pass. Tennessee’s pass defense is on par with Detroit in making quarterbacks look like the second coming.
73.9pct. 310ypg, 19td, 4int, 117.5 rating
Now if Young looks like shit against THAT defense in practice, imagine what he will do against anybody else.
October 29th, 2009 at 2:09 PM
Let’s blame all of this on Collins and ignore the fact that the Titans give up 33 points a game, worst in The National Football League.
I don’t know who the their 3rd string QB is, but they might as well give him a shot while they’re at it.
October 29th, 2009 at 2:14 PM
And while we’re on the subject of the Titans. The “Music City Miracle” was an illegal forward pass.
/jpq’d
October 29th, 2009 at 2:41 PM
Typically the second string QB takes what 85, 90, 100% of the snaps in practice during the week, right?
October 29th, 2009 at 2:45 PM
I know, and they’re not good enough to play for a defense allowing qbs to complete 74% of their passes. If he can’t impress anybody against them, how is he going to do against another team’s starters?
