Latrell Sprewell Hasn’t Had All of His Material Possessions Possessed … Yet
Former Athletes, NBA, Video November 3rd. 2009, 6:45pm
You can’t tell it from this photo, but a longtime reader claims this man going to his big body Benz is former millionaire/NBA guard Latrell Sprewell. Our reader notes that Sprewell is a staple at Apartment 720 in Milwaukee on Fridays. “I was in town this past weekend, walked into 720, and the first thing I saw was him walking out the front door with some white chick getting in his Benz S-Class sedan parked in his spot right out front. The maybach must have been taken by the bank. He had his face painted as the joker.”
Hey Spree, if you’re out there, and you haven’t frittered away all of the $96 million you made in your time in the league, Antoine Walker could use a loan.
Slow night in sports with the World Series on a travel day. If you’re like us and you have been enamored with Len Bias for the last 23 years, ESPN’s 30-for-30 documentary on the former Maryland star is on tonight. You’ll definitely want to read this piece – perhaps the definitive one on Bias – prior to viewing. And if you have NBA TV, there’s Kobe vs. Durant.
Don’t see this happening tonight.

You dont see Kobe hitting a jump shit while Durant goes up for the block?
I don’t think that was that great of a play. Durant was just caught.
November 3rd, 2009 at 6:53 PM
A year before my time, but I’m definitely watching.
The Jimmy the Greek one is scheduled for next week.

Damn alcohol abuse.
November 3rd, 2009 at 6:57 PM
also Rose vs. Jennings
November 3rd, 2009 at 6:59 PM
I’m pretty sure that’s a double dribble on Kobe, or at least it should be.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:06 PM
Jim Leyritz is on E:60
WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:06 PM
Either that or a blatant carry.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:11 PM
He’s an asshole
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:13 PM
JPQ – Is it about how he’s a drunk dick?
Although when i was younger I tried to copy his stance.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:15 PM
Yup, and crying about doing 10 days in the clink for being drunk and beating his wife. He’s broke, i hope his legal defense sucks and he get a minimum of 5 years. He seems to be more scared of going to the joint than being remorseful about what happened. No Stallworth treatment for this guy, Stallworth did everything the right way (as for as after the incident occured), and this guy is broke and denying everything. good luck shithead.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:15 PM
Sons of Anarchy at 10
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:16 PM

+ 20 for not making me have to rant about Leyritz again. That fucking J-hole. Is he telling the same lie about how his wife hits herself so he’ll get in trouble? Or is he talking about how that machine in his car is rigged, and he might suicide. Fuck Jim Leyritz. Fucking murderer. If he’d just gone to jail, and accepted his punishment, he’d probably be out right now.
I hope he has enough money left over to pay punitive damages to that poor lady’s family. Fuck you, Jim Leyritz.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:21 PM
shatner & PL: living down here, I am so sick of hearing about this guy. Yes, the other lady was drunk, but HE was the reason the accident happened. He has refused to accept repsonsibility for what happened since Day 1. I hope he goes to Oz and gets a pu pu platter of Adebisi and Schillinger for 10 years.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:21 PM
I accidentally ranted. Sorry.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:24 PM
now we get tp the part of the good story that makes you lose faith in humanity
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:25 PM
that car is probably 4 years old. He’s broke. He had to live in ny for a lot of years, and paid through the ass in taxes and spending money in metric tons. I’ve also heard his custom car company is broke too.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:26 PM
dirt: this makes me VERY angry regarding Leyritz
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:27 PM

/different strokes for different folks’d
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:32 PM
JPQ, I had that about 5 minutes ago, too. Why in the world wouldn’t they go Hugh Jackman again? Steve Martin again, but with help?
I’m against that.
Now Leyritz says he’s eager to get to trial? I guess those legal fees are eating him alive. Fucker.
TBL, you better be DVRing the Len Bias thing. You’d be a fool not to. You’ll actually like it.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:34 PM

I’m stroking all three!
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:34 PM
I’m behind on SOA, i haven’t even seen last weeks episode. fuckin sucks moving back home and not having a DVR. I’ll catch last weeks on Hulu after work tonight.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:34 PM
Is Scott Wolf hoping that V does for his career what Lost did to Matthew Fox’?
As soon as Lacey Chabert gets her network vehicle I wish to be alerted
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:34 PM
read an article that said bias was by far the worst 30 30 doc so far
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:35 PM
whoops. Just saw V. Apparently I am now blind to TBL love of awful television programming.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:36 PM
dirt: I’m not a Hugh Jackman fan, but that guy was the best host they’ve had in a loooong time. Like early Billy Crystal.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who hates Leyritz. Every time I see him, I literally want to punch him in the face.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:36 PM
Squandered 11 million and is making a living receiving handouts from friends and family. fuck that guy. I can’t except men not taking responsibility for their actions, pisses me off more than anything.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:37 PM
Phil Ivey on the other hand seems like a pretty cool dude.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:37 PM
read an article that said bias was by far the worst 30 30 doc so far
They’re reconstructing the night he OD’d. That’s not nearly the subject matter of Mohammed Ali’s demise, or Baltimore having a team stolen, and stealing a team.
I thought the USFL story was nauseating, but I can’t take that much Trump.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:39 PM
Phil Ivey looks like Kenny Williams
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:40 PM
Wow, Phil Ivey knows how to make loot.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:41 PM
But if Leyritz hit a big one for the Sox, I’m sure this snafu would be swept under jpq’s anger rug.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:41 PM
the article in ESPN the Mag on Ivey was incredible in terms of his lifestyle. Obviously, you’re seeing the visual of it now.
duder: I didn’t see that. but wasn’t the guy a close friend of his from the neighbor”hood”?
I lived in Boston when he was drafted and died, and it was one of those “I remember where I was when I first heard it” moments I’ve had in my life.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:42 PM
NBA TV? KCAL 9 baby! The world champion Lakers basketball network! Gonna watch the Len Bias doc tho. It’s gonna be good. In a sad way.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:42 PM
By the way, thanks if you clicked my you tube video earlier. We now have 63 viewings. Woohoo.
Here’s a story about a lost dog, that ends a little badly for one dishonest guy.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:43 PM
But if Leyritz hit a big one for the Sox, I’m this snafu would be swept under jpq’s anger rug.
hernia, you don’t know me very well I guess. If he was with the Sox, the Royals, the Marlins, I’d feel the same way. Trust me.
OJ doesn’t make me hate the Bills, but it makes me hate OJ
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:44 PM
the bias one was one of the ones i wanted to watch. still going to obviously. havent seen the others so cant say if they were good.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:46 PM
I lived in Boston when he was drafted and died, and it was one of those “I remember where I was when I first heard it” moments I’ve had in my life.
I was obsessed with 3 things then. The Celtics beating the Lakers, and college hoops, and the Atlanta Braves. I was 13, and I remember crying a bunch of times that day.
/no homo, but maybe a bit of a softie.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:46 PM
where is ivey? espn?
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:47 PM
duder: e:60. like jpq said, his lifestyle is rediculously awesome.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:48 PM
Snafu? Snafu? A snafu is putting the decimal in the wrong spot when balancing a checkbook or calling your wife another womans’s name while having sex not killing someone while drinking and driving.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:49 PM
Re Oscars: I love Jackman, but he gets a douche point on this one. He declined to do it this year because he only wanted to do it twice.
I still think NPH should host every award show possible.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:49 PM
dirt: I was 25 and working in Boston, had stopped for gas and was listening to the radio when the report came on. Right now, I can visualize it all over again. Weird. and sad.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:50 PM
Off topic: Darrell Scott transfers from Colorado to somewhere in California.
Not that he’s done anything, but this has got to be the end of Hawkins.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:50 PM
That Phil Ivey thing was awesome. I gotta get back into poker apparently
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:51 PM
life of ivey i assume theyre showing stuff like this?
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:51 PM
The Phil Ivey thing was good. Now, this next guy, well, he used to smoke drywall. Holy shit.
I’m watching KU hoops tonight. First game already.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:52 PM
Just giving you shit, I know
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:54 PM

Great Movie. Woody Harrelson killed me.

November 3rd, 2009 at 7:55 PM
I dunno, Jackman was pretty fucking awesome last year. Isn’t Gervais getting the nod next year for the Emmy’s?
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:55 PM
KC is there an online feed of that anywhere?
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:56 PM
If Phil was bloated like a fat fucking sow then yes I would agree.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:58 PM
Oh, Jackman rocked the fucking house yesterday. That opening number was the best thing on stage I had ever seen. I’m gonna see him and Daniel Craig ina two man show some time this month. I just want more Neil Patrick Harris in my life.
/no homo
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:00 PM
Not having cable sucks, but luckily SOA is online about 30 minutes later
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:00 PM
Beadle – No clue. It is on the channel here that usually shows the shows TBL likes. The Big 12 started their own network so it might be on that. Not sure if they stream online.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:01 PM
Oh man I cant wait for the OJ 30 for 30. That shit was unreal.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:03 PM
Beadle – Just noticed the game is on the Jayhawk Television Network. If they don’t, they’d be wise to stream online. I have a bunch of friends in Chicago, Denver, and Arizona that are pissed they miss so many games.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Bulldog 53 isn’t very likeable.
also, David Garrard isn’t very good at Quarterbacking.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:04 PM
and I meant last year Tallguy… fuck.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:04 PM
Oh, it looks like Self is going to redshirt Little and Releford. I remember the shitfit you through last year when they pulled Little’s redshirt. You were correct. It makes no sense to let him play half a year, redshirt, and then he is a 5th year senior.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:05 PM
Odd, I get the same feeling about you.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:06 PM
Is it me or has Bias been legend-ized too much? He obviously was a coke-head immortalized by death. He most likely was going to have a opiate-squandered NBA career. His coke addiction, explained by the deterioration of his heart in his autopsy is fact, right?
I lived through his death, and agree it was a seminal point in the War on Drugs (this is your brain, this is your brain on drugs) and in what goes on at some college hoops programs, but this 30-30 piece seems like overkill. Are they breaking any new ground, b/c this whole affair is seedy and already been pretty well reported. Just my .$02
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:07 PM
I saw that. I suppose he’s thinking that with Collins, X and Aldrich gone he’ll have to be a team leader/impact scorer?
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:09 PM
Beadle-
You’ll be happy to know that Reed is starting.
On the flip side, Xavier has a sweet ass shot. Made his first shot from downtown.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:09 PM
scripty: I don’t disagree w/ you. I remember thinking that when Belushi died in ‘82. I guess it was the fact that he was only 21-22, drafted, and then dead the next day. It was just so sudden and unexpected to those who had no clue what was going on in his life.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:09 PM
no question. if he was just a drug addict that od’d at 45 he wouldnt even be remembered.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:10 PM
Oh man I cant wait for the OJ 30 for 30. That shit was unreal.
One of the best reporting pieces on the OJ deal was almost immediately after his death. OJ was set to agree to a manslaughter charge on the two deaths but the D.A. said it wasn’t enough time (like 2-3 years for each), so they both rolled the dice and OJ won the trial. For the idiots that claim his innoncence, they never seem to bring up those events. Also, the cops were lazy and instead of booking him at the Brentwood station, they did it at a closer LA police station, which COMPLETELY changed the jury pool, which completely changed the trial. What a bunch of morons. Money talks. But the trial was the perfect storm of celebrity, gossip, news, etc.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:10 PM
cavs got daugherty, harper, and price in that draft. wow.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:10 PM
@jpq: HA, dude, not at all.
I must say, after three nights in a row, I’m happy to be Buck-free.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:10 PM
Just try to think of it in today’s perspective. Say the Jets draft Sanchez, he does the press conference, and then dies that night.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:12 PM
cavs got daugherty, harper, and price in that draft. wow.
And Hot Rod Williams. They traded for Price, technically, from the Mavs I believe.

November 3rd, 2009 at 8:14 PM
kc: exactly. think of the coverage that would get now
hernia: I’m glad we’re cool.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:14 PM
I was 10 when he died, I remember it more as a “Holy Shit they aren’t joking about staying away from drugs” more than a good player dying. Although, that is pretty messed up. It’s just astounding his coke-addled heart could allow him to play like that. That was when most first rounders came in the NBA and had immediate impact too. But I can see how others take it like the Sanchez example, above.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:16 PM
scripty were the cavs considering drafting him? or were you too young to remember?
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:16 PM
It’s nice to not have a night were I nearly die from stress watching the Yankees. I guess I’ll get drunk and slap my wife.
/half true. Which half?

I thought that was like the first time he did it. Was he really a coke head? That would kinda make it a little less tragic in my mind.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:17 PM
Vicente Padilla with the Swine Flu and a gun shot wound within 3-4 months damn.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:17 PM
scripty: I agree w/ you. It wasn’t that the Celtics lost a draft choice, it was “Wow, a 22 year old kid died from coke.” As a 25 y/o, you can imagine what a lot of us thought at the time.

No it was Daugherty, he was UNC and centers were the rage back then (Ewing, Olajuwan, Kareem, Parish, etc). My uncle’s college roommate was Wayne Embry (Cavs GM, and I believe basketball HOF’er) so it was funny to hear some of the crap back in the day.
People forget Daugherty lost at least 40% of his career to a mis-treated back injury, another Only in Cleveland deal. He was pretty damn good.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:20 PM
To me, being from SoCal and a Laker fan, Magic’s AIDS revelation was far more shocking. I remember getting home from school and my dad looked like his mom died. Magic was already a Laker hero and a beloved athelete across the country. I thought we’d watch him waste away and die a slow death. We were all sure he was gonna die back then. That was surreal.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:23 PM
Len should have done some blue magic instead

To me, being from SoCal and a Laker fan, Magic’s AIDS revelation was far more shocking.
Equal stature… I’m 33. I’d say from a shock standpoint, it’s like remember where you were Mt. Rushmore: In no particular order:
Magic has HIV (at the Mall buying high-tops as I just made the high school team)
Challenger (school classroom)
9/11 (work cube, back when not every employee had web access and internet news sucked – which led to the creation of Google news FYI)
OJ gets off (college union)

November 3rd, 2009 at 8:28 PM

I am always amazed every time Magic is on TV he’s still alive. WHo didn’t give him 2-3 years, max. Back then if you made it 4-5 years, it was a mathematical outlier.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:29 PM
Scripty – I’m 34. That’s a good list. I’d ammend the OJ thing from getting off to the chase in the Bronco. I think we knew he was going to get off. Anyhow, he’s on the list. It’d be like if Charles Barkley went off killing his wife. That was essentially his stature at the time. I don’t think the young’ns here understand that. He was in the Naked Guns!!!
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:31 PM
To me, being from SoCal and a Laker fan, Magic’s AIDS revelation was far more shocking.
Hmm, interesting: Magic: When I got home from school.
Challenger: At home on couch with my pregnant mom watching cartoons.
9/11: Woken up by my Dad saying we were under attack. Worked at 10 a.m. (Pacific)
OJ: Verdict was announced during Social Studies. We all watched it in class. My teacher had to explain what “reasonable doubt” meant.
By the way, i’m 27.

I was at lunch at Middle school. They brought a TV down to watch the Verdict. Everyone was cheering when he got off. All we knew was that he played football had Hurtz commercials and put on a hell of a show during that chase. How could he do wrong.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:35 PM
Watching the L.A. riots was a big one for me as well. My grandma lives right off of Florence in Santa Fe Springs. Mainly seeing Reginald Denny get beaten. My mom started screaming and crying.

9/11: I was in school. I didn’t really start to hear anything until later that morning. We had TV’s in the classroom, but I never saw anything until after school.
Columbia: That was my Challenger. I remember watching, waiting for the shuttle to return, but it never happened.
Those were some notables I remembered.

November 3rd, 2009 at 8:39 PM
I’d agree about the OJ Bronco chase being more surreal, but the verdict was more seminal. About 20% of the country was watching the NBA game so that’s a pretty boring answer, whereas the verdict lent to people being in some socially awkward places.

November 3rd, 2009 at 8:44 PM
I could see Columbine for a some, definitely.
I just remember that student union. Where I went, the union had these strong unspoken racial boundaries, and while the lesson of OJ was money, race was the social topic the trial produced. I still can’t believe shit didn’t riot in there, b/c there were plenty of people shouting their opinions.

The most traumatic sports event for me when I was young was Jerry Rice getting pulled back and down by his face mask by Warren Sapp and tearing all 3 ligaments in his knee. I LOVE Jerry Rice, and up to that point he had never missed a game. That was in week 1. Facing the whole season without Jerry destroyed me. Cried for weeks. By the way, he came back in week 15 and scored a TD against the eventual champion Broncos. From blowing out his knee!!! Week 15!!! A total god among us. I still can’t believe he did that.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:54 PM
Sherron has only taken 4 shots? wtf?
He only took 12 shots a game last season.

Here, here! Or get laid for god’s sake. It’s nearly impossible to get hard and stay that way when coked out. At least it was for me. Moron. Should’ve stayed in school. Of course, if he was already an addict, that’s different. Not much, but different.

November 3rd, 2009 at 9:07 PM
BTW, here’s an old ESPN E-Ticket on Bias… pretty good but some has come out after… I think since they focus on Len’s mom they don’t go into the details of his coke use and try to make it like “the impact of his death, etc”
Also, for some, the Kurt Cobain death is up there.,,,
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:11 PM
I’m waiting for obligatory “Hey let’s shoot at them!” approach from the military due to hollywood’s disdain for the the military.
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:14 PM
Where can I read that Bias was an addict before? I had never heard that. Has it been totally glossed over to make him a drug-war martyr? If that’s true, that a shame. Fucking Reagan….
Also, for some, the Kurt Cobain death is up there.,,,
Meh. I’ll still take Rice’s knee injury. For me. I was too young to care about Cobain, and not a fan. Heroin is a hell of a drug. Fucking rockstars….

This is gonna sound dumb… Tupac and Biggie both getting gunned down in the same school year for me.
That’s not dumb. But now Biggie is incredibly overrated. Doesn’t deserve to be mentioned with Tupac. Before that rap was just alot of talk and acquittals in court. The shootings brought it to life. So to speak.
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:22 PM
Kind of the other way for me. Tupac had already been shot a bunch of times. He had a shit load of enemies. We had always thought there was gonna be retribution for Biggie, but he was just becoming the face of rap.
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:23 PM
Where is the giant taco pooping ice cream?

At the time though, especially for someone from the New York area, Biggie was gonna be the only show on the scene. He was only on his second album and he was wildly popular.
Fair enough. I’m from the L.A. area. Biggie just seemed kinda funny to me. Some fat guy dancing in a convertible singing about going to Cali. I didn’t even like Tupac back then. Now I get it. Nobody is that good anymore. Rap was killed by Jay-Z, Kanye, and 50 cent. Not really musical anymore. You were able to feel Tupacs power and skill. He seems mythical. Even then.

I mentioned the riots. Sports is just too important to me. I remember where I was when the Dodgers got Manny and the Lakers got Gasol. And Kobe’s Alley-Oop to Shaq in game 7 of the 2000 Western Conference Finals. Still the most exciting play i’ve seen. I wasn’t used to the Lakers being champs yet, of course. But then I knew we’d make it to the finals and win.

And, the incumbent mayor, Luke Ravenstahl, is a colossal dolt. Though…Ravenstahl–as well as Roger Goodell–went to my alma mater.

Regarding Bias…anyone who watches Fringe form last season…when Oliva meets Bell in the alternate Earth, there is the paper on his desk, one of the headlines is about Bias leading the Celtics to a win in the Finals (a sweep I think). Would mean he had a 20 plus year career on that Earth.
That whole scene was crazy. Different 9/11…JFK still alive.

I don’t know what I meant by that. But I agree about Nip/Tuck. Started jumping sharks on a nightly basis. That’s one of the reasons it was so entertaining though. I just lost interest.

Just read this thread- loved the rushmore remembering thing. its late, but here’s mine:
1. easy. jordan’s first retirement. I was 7, obsessed with Mike and the Bulls, and couldn’t wait for the next season. My parents didn’t know how to tell me, but it was in the kitchen of the our old house. For some reason the time on the microwave always comes to mind, too, 6:44.
2. columbine, at school it started coming out. it made me sick to think kids were just being shot, and i thought all day what it would feel like if someone rolled into class and shot me.
3. 9/11. If you asked me to give you the seating chart of my freshman spanish class that started at 9:10am, I could come very close. amazing how vivid that memory still is when we turned on the tv in the classroom to see those just hit buildings. School pretty much shut down, and we just watched the news all day.
I had a friend whose father had work at WTC that week, and I was with him in a study hall watching the news when each tower collapsed. The first time, we didn’t speak, just looked at each other. When the second fell, tons of people started to cry, and I just gave him a long hug. Turned out his dad was on his way to the buildings when the first plane flew overhead. i hated that fucking day.

If I’d known the Chrono Trigger love was coming out, I would’ve stayed up.

hilarious. Man that 90’s West Coast gangsta rap has to be the most overrated era of hip hop.
Nothing beats the era when Black Moon, Nas, Wu Tang, Organized Konfusion, all were dropping first and second albums. When there was actually an underground that was viable and got radio play. When Mos Def and Kweli were together and Rawkus Records had a slew of artists who got shine.
