NBA Refereeing: A Former Pacer Worked the Pacers-Knicks Game Last Night
1-liner, NBA November 5th. 2009, 1:15pmNBA Referees: A perceptive reader wonders … based on the state of refereeing in the NBA, how come nothing was made of former Indiana Pacer Haywoode Workman being on the crew calling the Knicks-Pacers game last night? Workman has been out of the league since 2000, but he did spend four seasons in Indiana. In the 1993-1994 season, Workman started the bulk of the games for the Pacers, who lost in the Eastern Conference finals to the Knicks.

Because the memo from the NBA office informing the officals who to call the game in favor of trumps personal bias.

Similar logic dictates that Ed Hochuli should never do an Arizona Cardinals game because he lives in Phoenix. They don’t do that in the NFL, do they?
Plus, some players aren’t always on good terms with the team they played with after they get rid of them.

This may the dumbest thing I’ve ever read…you do realize that Workman left the Pacers under VERY acrimonious terms, don’t you? In any event, Workman also played for Atlanta, Toronto, Washington, & Milwaukee. Should he not be doing those games either?
Also, Leon Wood played for Philadelphia, Washington, New Jersey, Atlanta, and San Antonio. Same thing?
TBL, I love ya my brother, but this is a non-sensical post to end all non-sensical posts.

Steve Freeman played for the Bills for 12 years and has ben a back judge for years and has done a lot of their games
from his wiki…
One of Freeman’s teammates in Buffalo was linebacker Jim Haslett, who later became head coach of the New Orleans Saints. Despite the fact the two men were teammates for several seasons, Freeman was not prohibited from working Saints games during Haslett’s six-year tenure as the Saints coach from 2000-2005

Teddy Long was a referee for a number of years between managing stints.

Scott Armstrong is reffing after years as a wrestler too, and both Danny Davis and Nick Patrick turned heel and in Davis’s case became a wrestler for a while before returning to the stripes. So this is hardly a big deal.

@Clown, I entered a pool earlier today, and these were my picks for the Saturday races:
Classic: Richard’s Kid
Dirt Mile: Mastercraftsmen
Juvy: Radiohead
Turf: Conduit
Juvy Turf: Viscount Nelson
Turf Sprint: Get Funky
Mile: Gladiatorus
Sprint: Gayego
Someof these are pretty chalky, but there are def a couple of bombs in there as well.

These guys have to be allowed to work games for every team or else you really can’t employ them. If they were to not let Workman do Pacer games, they would implicitly be saying he would be biased for (or against) the Pacers. Once you go that route, he can’t really do games involving other teams in their division since, forexample, a loss for the Pistons to the Blazers is good for the Pacers. It would never end.

Did Workman make ANY calls at all that suggested he was favoring one team or the other? Because if not, this is just incoherent, pointless rambling by this ‘perceptive reader’.
November 5th, 2009 at 2:18 PM
Did this perceptive reader notice that the Knicks went the last 9 minutes of the game without a FG? Oh, you might want to point out that Danny Granger fouled out on a call by Workman.
Try again perceptive reader.

The NBA should be cherry picking the cut lists of NBDL teams for the smartest guys and training them for this job. There shouldn’t be 70 year old men with delusions of grandeur doing this job.
I’m glad Haywood Workman is working as a ref. He should have a better intrinsic understanding of what’s going on out there.
