The New York Yankees Are World Series Champions
Baseball November 5th. 2009, 12:15am
Somewhere, Satan is smiling. The Yankees beat the Phillies 7-3, winning the World Series 4-2. Hideki Matusi was the MVP. The Sports Hernia will return with some witty insight tomorrow, after he’s done popping champagne and dancing his pants off.
Locking the doors. Reinforcing the windows. Hoping the B&T brigade get home safely…or drown in the Hudson. One of the two.

Charlie Manuel is really tall or Rosenthal is really short. I’m guessing the latter. Old people aren’t that tall
November 5th, 2009 at 12:19 AM
Actually, he’s waiting for John Henry to die and Theo Epstein to commit one more mortal sin.
/twisting the knife
Congrats NYY.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:20 AM

November 5th, 2009 at 12:22 AM
smoke break!
so weird to see guys smoking in an MLB clubhouse. grace, blauser, and rod beck had themselves a little lounge
November 5th, 2009 at 12:22 AM
Epstein > Cashman. That’s the most obvious comment on this site tonight.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:23 AM
Not tonight, young Fetch. Not tonight.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:25 AM
Just can’t give the Yanks one night, can ya Fetch?
November 5th, 2009 at 12:28 AM
GSG and SC–get away from the PC! Go get yourselves a wench and tattoo NY on her forehead with your essence!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:35 AM

November 5th, 2009 at 12:41 AM
Haha, well done sir. Look, the governor I backed took down the incumbent, the yankees finally won the world series. Life is sooooo good right now.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:45 AM
Must’ve been an excrutiatingly long 8 years for you. The Yankees finally won the world series. Poor soul.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:47 AM
He means since he became a fan in August
November 5th, 2009 at 12:48 AM
A #1. Top of the Heap. King of the Hill.
Make a brand new start of it, Fetch. It’ll melt those little town blues away!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:49 AM
Heh.
Bigger heh.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:49 AM
SC: I wanna party with you!!!!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:52 AM
NEIL! I wanna party with you!
Fucking A right. Wish I would have gone to NY this weekend instead of a few weeks ago. Got to see a division clinching celebration. Can only imagine a world title.
Enjoy it dude. I hope it comes Chicago’s way in my lifetime.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:58 AM
The biggest heh.
It’s been, like, since the turn of the century and stuff since they’ve pulled off such a feat.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:03 AM
I was 14 the last time the Yankees won a world series. Sorry if Im a little over dramatic. KISS MY FUCKING ASS!
November 5th, 2009 at 1:08 AM
That means you’ve only seen them win, what, four world series? Finally, they won a fifth!
November 5th, 2009 at 1:52 AM
I hope a monsoon strikes the parade route.
/Bitter’d
November 5th, 2009 at 2:16 AM
wait. what?? Damn, I’m old.
/I was 14 the last time an earthquake hit a World Series.
November 5th, 2009 at 2:30 AM
Me too. I remember back when OJ was an ex-football player, commentator and actor and when fantasy football meant thinking about Brian Bosworth when I…wait, nevermind.
November 5th, 2009 at 2:55 AM
@SC, good call on Matsui
/hats off
November 5th, 2009 at 6:53 AM
Somewhere, Satan is smiling
Good job, Duffy.
November 5th, 2009 at 7:11 AM
Congrats to the Yankees. They were one of the best teams in the majors all season long. And they took the risk of going with a 3-man rotation for both the LCS and the WS.
If nothing else, this finally kills the “A-Rod chokes in the postseason” and “When will the Yankees win one?” storylines.
The question for me though is: is this the end of the road for many of the Yankees old timers like Rivera, Posada and Pettite?
November 5th, 2009 at 7:19 AM
my fav part in saving silverman
November 5th, 2009 at 7:20 AM
Working in NYC and like others have said, its great to see all these new Yankee fans who come out in August. Just a disgrace to the true fans and makes me hate the empire even more. Rooting for the house in BJ. Bad day.
November 5th, 2009 at 7:47 AM
i’m so happy.
November 5th, 2009 at 7:48 AM
Pettitte is a FA, and I’ll take him back, no problem, for games like last night’s.
Posada has two years remaining; his skills are in obvious decline.
Mo has a year remaining. I’d keep him until his arm falls off.
November 5th, 2009 at 7:49 AM
So am I…. and gravatar is unblocked at work again! I’m tellin you Sparty… just having a great week.
November 5th, 2009 at 7:53 AM
the roundup will be an hour late. sorry, guys.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:06 AM
Sorry if Im a little over dramatic.
you’ve never needed an excuse before Jersey.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:07 AM
f*ck – glad I showed up @ work on time.
going to chill in the break room for an hour.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:08 AM
Congratulations to the Yankees. I’m sure this means something to their fans. Me, I don’t care and didn’t watch. They spent half a billion dollars and won the ring. Great. It reminds me of the senior high school football player I knew who used to brag about all the freshmen he beat up. I hope that makes you feel better about yourself.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:09 AM
Everybody saw the Reebok easy tone commercial, with the fine ass lady with the fine ass on Sunday, right? It was awesome.
Here’s a followup. It’s probably not exactly safe for work, but it’s a commercial that will air in prime time, so there’s an excuse.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:09 AM
I don’t get a break from my shitty students until about noon your time. Guess I’ll check back then.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:13 AM
Today is a great day.
However, double barrel coffees are needed. And make it snappy.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:13 AM
Shit – First time I’m able to be on the site in a week and I get a delay.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:17 AM
*cough* click on my name *cough*
I am really enjoying this series of commercials.

November 5th, 2009 at 8:25 AM
My wife left for work about 15 minutes ago, and she just called to say she got slowed up because there was a cow on the interstate.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:26 AM
fuuuuuuuuuck it’s impossible to study for a test when you know you can drop one of the 3 in the class and you already got an 85 on the first one.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:26 AM
call her back and tell her NOT to make eye contact.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:26 AM
My wife left for work about 15 minutes ago, and she just called to say she got slowed up because there was a cow on the interstate.
a cow??????
all we ever get are those pesky alligators
Congrats to the Yankees and their fans
November 5th, 2009 at 8:27 AM
chicago – do well on this one and tank the last one.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:28 AM
Here’s a link:
Slate magazine claims that Chinese youngsters don’t get sex education and therefore can’t figure out how to have sex.
and here I thought they numbered in the billions.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:29 AM
trying hard to not make a joke about drunk yankee fans wandering on to the interstate after celebrating….
anyway i’ll say it again, congrats to the yankees and their fans.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:29 AM
Lakers – Check
Yankees – Check
I think we all know what comes next
November 5th, 2009 at 8:29 AM
will that make the cow horny?
November 5th, 2009 at 8:30 AM

I’d settle for a single playoff win. My goals aren’t lofty.

November 5th, 2009 at 8:32 AM
How about a Carrie Prejean solo sex tape, that was too racy for TMZ to post? I like the sound of that.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:32 AM
ear sex?
November 5th, 2009 at 8:32 AM
that’s a news story about the sex tape, not the actual sex tape. Sadly.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:33 AM
miz- That would be the ideal strategy, and probably the smart way to go… but I didn’t mention that I’ve heard from everyone I know that’s taken this class that the last test is by far the easiest. And also that the test is in an hour…
November 5th, 2009 at 8:33 AM
Why, why do people keep saying this? What have Yankee fans done here to deserve this courtesy? Are we being sarcastic?
Woman in cube next to me. Wearing a brand spankin new Jeter jersey. I live in the heart of Philly nation mind you. Apparantly her son decided to be a Yankee fan, so she decided to hop on too. Just to annoy.

Back when I was a corporate cog they sent me to India for a week and I had to do “training” before I went. They said if you’re in a cab an it hits a cow, get out of the car and run, because people will destroy the cab. Crazy Indians, cows are for eating, not praying.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:35 AM
That is a tough look to pull off for a chick.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:38 AM
why is she allowed to wear a jersey to the workplace?
November 5th, 2009 at 8:38 AM
Remember that lady who got her face eaten by the her friend’s chimp? Well she’s suing. For 150 million. And guess who she’s suing.
The entire state of Connecticut.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:39 AM
Have you ever seen Asian porn? It’s a little, shall we say, directionless.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:40 AM
must suck to live in philly this morning. with no public transportation, those must be some shitty car pools.

I have no idea, but I like hearing it from my friend who is a lifetime Red Sox fan.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:42 AM
Most employers frown on female employees running around barechested.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:42 AM
she’s a Yankee fan. we are just better.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:43 AM
And smell nicer.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:43 AM
next year it will be another team’s jersey or jacket she’s wearing. it’s her money she’s wasting. let the yankee fans deal with their bandwangon douchebag fans, we’ll just stereotype them as the standard fan to piss off the real yankee fans.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:43 AM
Just embracing the role of the villian now, I see? The smarmiest smarm who ever smarmed.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:44 AM
Have you seen the black and white YSL perfume commercial? Smoking.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:44 AM
I think we all need to take a moment to say how much we love Andy Pettitte.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:45 AM
late to the show but i have this image of a guy walking into a shoe store asking if they have those shoes in blue or black instead of pink.
i love girls who run all the time except those who run marathons and look manly. The girl in the commercial is attractive.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:45 AM
i was gonna guess the chimps closest relative
November 5th, 2009 at 8:46 AM
Remember that lady who got her face eaten by the her friend’s chimp? Well she’s suing. For 150 million. And guess who she’s suing.
The entire state of Connecticut.
it must suck to be Steve Phillips. First he loses his job for having sex with a gorilla. Now, because a chimp ate a woman’s face in his home state, he will end up paying for a portion of that tab.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:46 AM
and Joe Girardi for never letting Chad Gaudin start a World Series game.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:46 AM
I work in a big office building in Jacksonville and on my way downstairs to get coffee about an hour ago, I passed a guy wearing a brand new 2009 world champions NY Yankees t-shirt. where the hell did he get that already?
November 5th, 2009 at 8:47 AM
walmart.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:49 AM
Not a Yankees fan, but I have to admit it was sad not seeing George there.
Love him or hate him, the Yankees are his team.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:49 AM
I just spotted a kind in Nicaragua wearing a 2009 Phililes World Champions t-shirt.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:49 AM

November 5th, 2009 at 8:49 AM
I passed a guy wearing a brand new 2009 world champions NY Yankees t-shirt. where the hell did he get that already?
probably from one of the 400,000 Bagadonuts brother goombas who live here in Northern Broward County who are out wearing XL shirts this morning but need 4XL to go with their matching gold chains, long shorts and white unlaced kicks and loud mouths
/sparty knows what I’m talking about
November 5th, 2009 at 8:51 AM
Theyve been embracing the role all along. Which is WHY Im wondering why we’re being nice to them?
November 5th, 2009 at 8:51 AM
standing right next to the lady selling Plant City Strawberries outside Boca Town Center.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:52 AM
Besides the Yankee win, I have a guess as to why the Roundup is late. Right when the game was over, i switched to ESPN to groan for a few minutes, but they were showing the last 6 minutes of Mavs/Hornets.
It ended almost an hour later. So many timeouts. Dallas blew it big time. They were up 3 with 15 seconds left, and JJ Barea got a cheap charge called on Chris Paul, who was missing a 3. Then David West got T’d up for crying about the cheap call (and it was cheap). So JET missed a free throw (his 2nd miss in the last minute), then JJ Barea missed two free throws in a row. Natch, Peja drains a three, and New Orleans blows Dallas out in overtime.
That’s an hour of sleep i’m never getting back.

November 5th, 2009 at 8:57 AM
did anyone see Cashman? i watched about 30 seconds of the trophy pres and didn’t see him.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:57 AM
I assume the commemorative coins were in his pocket. Actually, the shirt is surprisingly not awful, although those usually run about 5 sizes too big.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:57 AM
I’m not being nice, I’m trying to ignore. The opposite of love is apathy, not hate. Of course, I’d probably ignore just about any World Series winner so it doesn’t make much difference to me.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:00 AM
Hey………somebody has to pay the cuban kid to make your pizza pie.
cabbage: the majority of Cubans still haven’t crossed the
MendozaMiami-Dade line. Instead, we have every Tony, Joey, Frankie, and Vinnie who left “up nawth” for his piece of the American dream: owning a pizza parlor in a strip mall in Coral Springs or BocaNovember 5th, 2009 at 9:01 AM
Really? This seemed to come out of nowhere.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:03 AM
Do they talk about how awesome it is back home and how much worse it is where they currently are?
It’s not every day that a guy that was a freaking pinch hitter for three games gets named MVP.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:04 AM
FML. Congrats Yankees’ fans.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:08 AM

November 5th, 2009 at 9:08 AM

November 5th, 2009 at 9:12 AM
So true.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:13 AM
I’m guessing you are both married.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:37 AM
1) There is public transportation…no buses or subways, but there is regional rail.
2) Shitty? Not at all. Most Phillie fans think of this as a great season…getting back to the World Series the year after winning it…we were playing with house money, and damned near cashed again.
Shitty is what I will be putting up with the 76ers all season long.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:40 AM
Hey, at least those unis are money.
November 5th, 2009 at 9:58 AM
