Sums up my thoughts:

Why do we trade a player with a bad year (.229/.302/.357) for a player with a bad career (.246/.292/.346). Granted Gomez is still young but even his minor league numbers don’t instill me with hope.

In 348 major league games, the right-handed-hitting Gomez has batted .246 with 12 homers and 99 RBI, with 59 stolen bases. He has a .292 on-base percentage and .337 slugging percentage. Not exactly what you want to see from a player whose main tool is speed.

Hate this trade for the Brewers. Would have thought we could have gotten more for Hardy than a guy that has a career avg of .246 and OBP of .292.

But he’s fast!!!!

@badger problem is Hardy won’t move over to 3rd and Escobar is a better shortstop then Hardy so you aren’t moving him. If the brewers had the money I am sure they keep Hardy and try to increase his value but it sounds like this was the best option and Gomez is 24 his obp should go up over the next couple years.

Now they just have to get Hart out of right.

@badger – i dont disagree, but i have faith in melvin that he made the right call seeing that the hardy deal was so transparent. he just said on the conf call that this trade was the best he saw compared to deals where they were offered pitching and he wanted to go with a guy that would help pitching (i.e. Gomez CF defense). all but flat out said they were going to sign Mulder and i think they will give a run at lackey and fail, and then go after washburn, and finally settling on doug davis and thus pissing off brewer nation.

Maybe the people in front of him get on base more often and his RBIs go up. Just a thought, but if you give someone more chances for success, the odds are greater that that person will succeed.
