Lane Kiffin’s in for a long day – three of his recruits were arrested this morning. “Three University of Tennessee football players are charged with an attempted armed robbery that occured at a Pilot on the Cumberland Avenue strip early Thursday morning. According to Knoxville Police Department Spokesman Darrell DeBusk, Nu’Keese Richardson, Janzen Jackson, and Mike Edwards were being held at the Knox County Detention Center.” And the SEC cheers! [WBIR]

the gas station is on the Strip right beside campus. it’s a Pilot gas station…which is owned by Jim Haslam, arguably the most powerful man in the state and inarguably the most powerful behind-the-scenes man at Tennessee. one of his sons is the Knoxville Mayor and is running for the Governor’s seat. another son is a minority owner of the Steelers. they’re billionaires, supposedly.

I don’t know the laws so I don’t know what the penalty is for attempted armed robbery. I’m going on the assumption they can get some kind of pretrial diversion and probation that keeps them out of the clinker. if that was the case, I want them off the team and out of the school.

It could be mandatory jail time. In PA it would be 5 – 10. The gun, even though its a pellet gun, triggers the 5-10. No pretrial diversionary program for them. Wouldnt be surprised that someone of the group rolls on the other ones, either.

I actually agree with your sarcastic sentiment for the most part. But these guys didn’t just fuck up and get a P.I. or something. This is serious. There is intent involved here derived from some screwed up place that has little to nothing to do with just needing money…unless they were starving, had a sick grandmother who couldn’t afford medicine…
