Preview – UFC 105: Couture vs. Vera
UFC November 13th. 2009, 3:45pm
November is a big month for MMA. Last week we saw a pretty decent Strikeforce card and tomorrow we have UFC 105 from Manchester, England. Then Wednesday there’s a WEC event and next Saturday is UFC 106. Lots of good stuff. Tomorrow’s card will be shown for free on SpikeTV at 8pm. It’ll be on tape delay, but we take what we can get.
The headliners are Brandon Vera and Randy Couture. Couture has accomplished everything in his career that Brandon Vera wishes he will accomplish. Couture is a former heavyweight and light heavyweight champion on a two fight losing streak. Vera is a hopeful future champion in both divisions on a two fight win streak. One is a wrestler, one is a striker. One is 32, the other is 46. They are the same and they are different. This should be a good fight with two different styles clashing. Personally, I think Vera can pull out a decision victory, but I really don’t think he wants to leave a close fight in the judges hands against Couture.
Dan Hardy vs. Mike Swick
The winner of this fight gets a shot at Georges St. Pierre and the welterweight championship. Lucky them. Both fighters are very good and have combined for 7 wins and no loses at 185 in the UFC. The winner certainly deserves a shot at GSP. If I had to pick fight of the night, I’d guess it’ll be between these two.
Michael Bisping vs. Denis Kang
Remember Michael Bisping? Me too! Back in the summer the UFC was building him up as their biggest European star. Then Dan Henderson happened. Now he’s fighting Denis Kang who might not be in the UFC come Monday. Smells like Bisping in a walk. It’ll be interesting to see where Bisping’s career path leads after Saturday, win or lose.
The last two fights on the main card are Matt Brown vs. James Wilks and Ross Pearson vs. Aaron Riley. Wilks and Pearson are fighting for the first time since they each won their weight class on season 9 of the ultimate fighter. Wilks is taking on one of the meanest sumabitches in the UFC – Matt Brown. Pearson drew Aaron Riley who has a whole lot of experience (28-11-1)

Vera actually has a pretty solid Greco Roman pedigree as well, he just doesn’t use it. FWIW.
Vera probably tries to keep Couture at bay with kicks tomorrow.

Barnes isn’t a guard.
He’s not going to Kansas, there wouldn’t be enough PT for him there

I may tune in some cage fighting. It’s great with the DVR. I dislike all the talking. This sport needs very little analysis.

Watching Giada right now…the cooking…the boobs…hitting too many pleasure centers at once, getting confused…

Kang is not going to be a walk for Bisping. He has had a few setbacks but he was dominating in Japan before he came to UFC. The UFC coddled Bisping until the Henderson fight and we saw how that turned out.

I have no idea what happened to Kang, but he has looked awful in the last few years.
I’ve interviewed Matt Brown, very cool dude. (very good nickname). I mean, he’s the “Immortal”.”

Does this tape delay stuff mean I need to stay away from Twitter tomorrow? Great.
