Jim Harbaugh vs. Pete Carroll: “What Your Deal?”
1-liner, College Football November 16th. 2009, 2:00pmUSC Football: Stanford smoked USC, 55-21 in SoCal Saturday afternoon. It was one of the top three surprising results of the season. Stanford was leading 48-21 and went for a 2-point conversion. It failed. When the two coaches met at midfield, USC coach Pete Carroll supposedly said to Stanford’s Jim Harbaugh, “What’s your deal? What’s your deal” while shaking hands. Harbaugh responded, “What’s YOUR deal?” Drama! Yes, Stanford looks outstanding, but TJ Simers, let’s not go overboard here. It is simply a down year for USC after seven straight 11-12-13 win seasons. [SF Chronicle]

Harbaugh: Great coach or Greatest coach?
November 16th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
For all the years USC has run up the score on teams, Carroll is one to talk. That being said, going for 2 while up by almost 30 isn’t cool.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
I hope the halftime show ends up on youtube.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
You’re right…it’s fucking awesome
November 16th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
it really is though.
/woody hayes
//because he couldn’t go for three
///harbaugh’s from michigan…fuck mich-again
November 16th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
you’re right pkiguy. Going for two isn’t cool when up by 30. Going for two, up by 30 on USC HAS to be followed by an onside kick attempt. That would have been cool.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
Too bad Harbaugh couldn’t run it up against Wake Forest.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
couldn’t agree any more. Harbaugh’s my kind of coach.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Anyone hear about how Brock Lesnar may never fight again?
November 16th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
I mean, come on, when’s Stanford going to be in this situation again? Carroll’s already pissed enough that next year is going to be a bloodbath, going for 2 isn’t going to hurt anything.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
That column by Simers is typical knee-jerk douchebaggery. “Stanford has better players than USC” is just laughable. They have a true freshman at QB and they lost 9 starters on defense and they are going to be 9-3.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
they sure could’ve used vontaze burfict and manti te’o tho…
November 16th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
Charlie Weis and Mark Mangino need to face each other just so they can bump FUPAs at midfield after the game.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
Burfict is a beast. He shits all over Te’o and Te’o is pretty good.
Weis looks like a male model when compared to Mangino. Hey Mark, try a salad once in a while.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
What, you mean to tell me we can’t win every game and there are going to be years in which we struggle to be .500?!? FUCK YOU. YOU SHOULD BE FIRED!!

Lane Kiffin kicks off two of the three robbers from the team. Of course the best player of the three (Janzen) is still there. I’ve heard his involvement was not as serious in Kiffin’s defense, but it does seem a little odd.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
Mark Mangino is the man.
Also, does Harbaugh hate USC or did he just do it to do it? If it was the equivalent of me vs. Roy Williams, I would have gone for two and onside kicked it every time once it got out of reach.

He’s a good coach, but damn is fat as fuck. He’s also in the midst of a 5-game losing streak.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
What is the big deal?
November 16th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
I’ve heard that Woody Hayes once went for two because he couldn’t go for three? Can anyone confirm?
November 16th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
I bet Carroll goes Urban Meyer on Stanford for the next few years.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
Or chew gum incessantly like Bo Pelini. That guy needs a sponsorship from Bazooka Joe.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
i wish someone would say “because i couldnt go for 3.” next time someone asks a head coach why he went for 2. that would be the first time ever.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Yeah he does, but I’d take chomping on gum like your life depended on it over having a village inside your stomach. On a sidenote, I thought Nebraska was going to choke one away to Kansas on Saturday. Now all they have to do is beat Kansas State and they get owned by Texas. Nebraska football, it’s FANtastic!!
November 16th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
I’m sure it was Bo Schembechler…
November 16th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
man i cant stand the voice of the colts radio announcer
November 16th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Cause Todd Reesing’s groin is all kinds of fucked up. And Jake Sharp has been hurt all year. But yeah, they’re probably a program that’s going to have a lot of mediocre years with hopefully a year every 5 or so where they surprise. Which is fine with me, it’s a basketball school.
Also, they held down your boy Suh pretty well this weekend. Granted it took two O-linemen but he didn’t wreck shit like I thought he would.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Or chew gum incessantly like Bo Pelini
he has nothing on Tito Francona
November 16th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Oops.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Quite a message.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Wait, I’m confused. Why did Woody Hayes go for two?
November 16th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
in memory of kevin duckworth. because he died.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Not ok with Lew Perkins though, who has been pumping millions into the program.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Frankly, I’m still in shock that a blog was deleted because the Iowa Hawkeyes lost.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Reesing looked good running draws all over Nebraska. They did a great job on Suh. Doubled him every play, but he is good enough to beat doubles. He had a bad day. Nebraska has no business losing to KSU this week, but they just can’t play a complete game this year. They should beat KSU 40-10. It will be more like 17-14.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:41 pm

Man, I bet those guys can carry on an engaging conversation at a bar.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:43 pm

November 16th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
This x 75000. Although given that I saw maybe 1 comment for every 10 posts, I’m not sure much has been lost.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Has he said anything publicly about it yet?
November 16th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Yeah that’s true triston. I think they’re on their way. Mangino built a BCS team with a QB who only had two D1 scholarship offers, a 3 star recruit as his best WR and a backup QB as his 2nd best WR. Now that they’re starting to get good recruits I think they’ll be a consistent 8ish win team with the potential to be better.
But, while I like the football team and cheer for them, I could give a shit less what they do as long as bball keeps humming along.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:45 pm
Has he been hanging out with Tommy Gun Morrison?
November 16th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
What is this about an Iowa blog?
November 16th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
he claims he doesnt have HIV and the initial test was a false positive.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
but has also passed a few hiv test so who knows?
November 16th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Dana White said it was mononucleosis, but it must be more than that. I had mono and it sucked. Slept for 20 hours a day. That doesn’t sound bad, but it was really bad.
Regarding Kansas football. Can Meier play pro football at the receiver? He killed Nebraska no matter who covered him and caught the ball no matter where it was at. He did fumble and it cost them big, but damn, that guy has talent.

I think both Meier and Briscoe can play, but I’m obviously biased.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Sounds like he is fucked. It’s never good when you have to deal with the Mayo Clinic.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
While this is true, they’re also staring a losing season in the face with these same players being 3 years older. But you’re right, it’s basketball season.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
I’m so happy Meier is gone. That dude is awesome. Briscoe is a stud too. I’ve heard he is as good as gone after this year.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
He should be. I wouldn’t stay to be on a 4 win team and watch Kale Pick run the spread option 40 times a game.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
So SC dropped his blog, or is he just on a a leave due to a bet or something?
November 16th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Ahh, so Woody Hayes went for two because SouvenirCity deleted his blog?
November 16th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Absolutely he is gone. KU has an unproven QB next year. Not only that but he’s a running QB so it will be a slightly different offense. More read option plays.
November 16th, 2009 at 2:53 pm

he apparently deleted the whole thing in a drunken rage, that was captured to a small degree on twitter.

Reason # 4,504 why the Heisman voters should be shot. Mark Schlabach is citing Colt McCoy’s career win total as a good reason why he should be considered for the trophy. And here I was thinking that the award was based on one year and one year only.

Passion is great and all that, leads to some good things, great inventions, blah blah. but, what’s your guys’ opinions on SC’s freak-out? i can safely say, it’s just a game or a team, i mean iowa wasn’t expected to do much anyway, but i’m not SC. i could see a pats fan maybe acting like that last night. anyway, i haven’t been passionate about a team since the cowboys in my yoot (70s, early 80s) and Oakland A’s (same period). any stories about super-crazy fandom antics?
November 16th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
@JayV- what did she busted for? she must need the best representation money can buy
November 16th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
i think if he is gonna do the “i was so drunk i cant remember what heppened” act he should probably quit drinking.
November 16th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
I mean, other than gambling losses or hooliganism or wars started after soccer games (El Salvador-Honduras) or soccer players shot (Colombia, ‘98) for own goals. I’m talking people to whom team performance matters so much that losses mean more than a bad day.
November 16th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
When did this SC stuff go down?
November 16th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
Saturday evening/night. You can check out yesterday morning’s comment sections here, there’s a pretty good rehashing of it there.

November 16th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
