Remember the Name Dakota Simms
College Basketball, NBA, Television, Video, Youth Sports November 17th. 2009, 6:30pmDakota Simms is only 9 years old. And he’s got game. Dominique Wilkins is impressed. Your nightly TV options after the jump:
Golden State Warriors-Cleveland Cavs, NBA TV. Stephen Curry and LeBron James … what might have been.
Arkansas-Louisville, 7:30, pm, ESPN2. The new JJ Redick vs. Rick Pitino.
V, 8 pm. You guys watching this show? Enjoying it greatly so far.
Gonzaga-Michigan State, 8 pm, ESPN. The Zags’ are probably the 2nd or 3rd team on the West Coast this year; the Spartans are the Big 10’s best team.
Heather Locklear returns to Melrose Place, 9 pm.
Memphis-Kansas, 10 pm, EPSN. Tigers are young, and the Jayhawks are No. 1. Good time to remind everyone of this memorable shot, which won us some loot in 2008.
And yes, we’re aware Rex Ryan cried Monday in front of the Jets. Just didn’t feel like talking about it. The media’s having fun taking shots at the Jets … they should enjoy it while they can. Next year, big things.

3rd at best. They’re down this year, and might not even win the WCC. Michigan State should beat them by 20+.
November 17th, 2009 at 6:44 PM
I have Duke -17.5 right now. First college bball wager of the season!
November 17th, 2009 at 6:46 PM
Well, he is really well spoken…
…for a 9 year old

That’s like the Jets team slogan.

goal of the night: to get a new workout. anyone have a link to good core workouts? bored of of the free weights. need to change it up. come on people, i know you have some tips …
any websites to find this stuff?
about to start googling…

TBL- paddle surfing
November 17th, 2009 at 7:03 PM
DUKE!
November 17th, 2009 at 7:04 PM
dominique looks like he could be a lock down defender in today’s nba. show this after the kid actually makes it. he has a million to 1 cjance to make it now.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:05 PM
lil bow wow could handle the rock when he was 10. then he didn’t get any taller.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:05 PM
Mets looking to sign Joel Pineiro. That franchise makes brilliant decisions with its money.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:05 PM
Still think they’re better than the Dolphins?
And try running, TBL. Dammit, just try it.
I do three sets each of pushups, pull ups, dips, bicycle crunches (far better for your core than sit-ups and regular crunches) and then variations of different plank excersices, before I run everyday. Core and back strength are huge for running, though.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:07 PM
you just described my workout.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:07 PM
if he had a girl he would have called her
November 17th, 2009 at 7:07 PM
That was a suggestion, TBL.
I hate to pimp Runner’s World, cuz that magazine is pretty terrible sometimes, but some of their articles are different workouts to do as far as core stuff is really good.
I’m old school as far as that stuff goes though, don’t like all of the high-tech gadgetry that people try to infuse into running. And I don’t use weights, ever.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:09 PM
What the hell is the new avatar, fetch? I honestly didn’t realize that was you.

Show me this when he has his growth spirt. I remember when i had my growth sport is 7th-8th grade, i looked like a kid who needed leg braces and had 2 left feet. thank christ i got over it quickly.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:10 PM
you do that before running, BB? Damn.
Can’t wait until hernia finds out about Piniero. he’s destined for 8-13, 5.02 era next year. bookmark that.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:11 PM
running will help your bone density too.

November 17th, 2009 at 7:14 PM
I don’t think it’ll be that bad (as long as he stays in the NL) but he’s gonna regress no matter where he signs, and somebody is gonna give him too much money and too many years.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:15 PM
Same here, I’m fired up! As much as I hate Duke.
Unbelievable. I will be scouring the internet for an over/under wins prop bet for him.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:15 PM
It’s really just routine at this point. Don’t really think about it. It’s the most theraputic part of my day.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:16 PM
Taguchi – who do you think overpays for Lackey? My money’s on the Dodgers
November 17th, 2009 at 7:16 PM
Thats almost exactly what he did in 2006 for Seattle. No need to bookmark it as it is probably fact. I can’t wait for the Mets to pair him with Vicente Padilla. What a clown organization.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:16 PM
done! Im going with this, i think

right on. it just becomes as routine as brushing your teeth or going the same way to work.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:18 PM
I love taking Duke early in the year because Coach K plays his guys up 30 and love fading them at the end of the year when the lines become inflated in their direction because of the early season blowouts.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:18 PM
good memory, RS – 8-13, 6.36 ERA in seattle in 06.
absolutely no chance he has an era under 4.75 in NY. none. i’d take that bet now. anyone?
November 17th, 2009 at 7:19 PM
not sure if you noticed that includes free weights. since that is what you said you were bored with.

I’m not sure the Dodgers get to spend money with the McCourt business. I think it makes a lot of sense for the Brewers to sign him.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:22 PM
The Rangers would make a lot of sense to if it wasn’t for their money issues. I keep hearing Seattle.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:23 PM
@TBL, I’m late, but my colleague is loving the PS 90X routine or whatever it’s called. I just remember seeing the ads and changing the channel.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:24 PM
Yeah, I got burnt out when my college coach kicked me off the team, turned into a fat, borderline alcoholic for a year, now I’m back competing again. With how shitty my job is, if it weren’t for running, no doubt I would’ve gone totally off the deep end by now. It’s without a doubt the highlight of every Monday to Friday.
Hope the coach at Maryland will even let me walk on. If the KU coach fucks me over I might decide to make destroying his career my mission.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:24 PM
Wow on the video and Dakota Simms. He’s from Atlanta apparently.
I think back to how amazing it was to me that ESPN spotted Lebron and showed his high school games, and I was thinking at the time as honestly were more than who will admit, “C’mon he’s only in high school please a lot can happen when one is young!” I remember watching Shawn Kemp dominate in high school at the state championship on TV, and though he played in the NBA awhile without playing in college after leaving Kentucky, look what happened to him ultimately?
Well that was true but the rest is history.
This kid at 9 seems to be doing stuff that the best of kids in many urban circles at ages 12-14 are doing on the playgrounds.
Most kids that age on junior high teams are not doing that stuff that well are they?
And he already has the fundamentals of the jump shot down despite having only the weakness of a nine year old.
Definitely many of us will remember that name. Fine piece TBL.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:25 PM
Georgetown 46, Temple 45. Yeeeeeesh.
Tennessee looks like an absolute powerhouse tonight.
Hicks is done spending, isn’t he? Their payroll is around the Twins’ lately.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:26 PM
Good luck Billy.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:26 PM
Hicks is broke and desperately trying to figure out an 11th hour way to not lose the team. They are deeply fucked.

I think it’ll be close only because the new Shea is like playing in Yosemite Park. But I won’t bet because Pineiro sucks. The Mets staff next year will be Santana, Pineiro, Perez, Maine, and someone. This is an upgrade how again? I still can’t believe Minaya gave Perez all the money. What an ass.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:29 PM
TBL: http://www.crossfit.com
I was in CRAP shape when I started it then 4 months later was climbing Mt. Rainier. I could do 1 pullup when I started and deadlift 225… 6 months later I was doing 26 pullups and deadlifting 330 (I’m 150lbs). These are the 100% most intense workouts you’ll ever do though so get into them slowly if you do…
November 17th, 2009 at 7:29 PM
…Lackey’s FIP actually isn’t all that impressive. I’m kind of surprised.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:29 PM
If Beltran is back and healthy? In Shea, in the NL? Interesting. If I knew you’d pay up I’d think about it

Pat Misch, baby!
November 17th, 2009 at 7:30 PM
I remember watching Chris Webber in high school. Just a man amongst boys.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:31 PM
Pineiro was actually pretty amazing all the way through last year. Think he’d be under 4.75 with the Mets, but who the hell knows. I don’t trust anybody Duncan builds without Duncan.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:32 PM
Shea? patphish?
November 17th, 2009 at 7:32 PM
I think it makes a lot of sense for the Brewers to sign him.
Brewers will get in a bidding war with the Mets for Pineiro, before they think about what makes the most sense.
/all kidding aside, I’d scream like a girl if we had Lackey and Gallardo anchoring the rotation next year. .
November 17th, 2009 at 7:33 PM
If he’s actually learned how to not walk anybody and can retain that he can be a useful guy. He’s just going to get paid like a really useful guy, hopefully for his sanity in the NL.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:34 PM
I refuse to not call it Shea, Sparty. Hell I’m probably gonna call Target Field the Metrodome next year.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:34 PM
What it would actually look like. But yes, that would potentially be a dangerous team. Certainly if you made the playoffs you’d scare the fuck out people.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:36 PM
TBL Godfather: On running, which I have been doing regularly since about age 10 including track and cross country in high school and ever since for playing soccer or rugby, I recommend from much experience highly that you not do it on roads but rather on grass or sand or a track. If on grass or sand (a beach when you get to one), you’ll get more conditioning per distance too.
When I was 32 I could feel my left knee a bit sore and my lower back as well. Buying new shoes and new insoles is not enough as many think. Years of pounding on your joints from the roads, and worst of all sidewalks, will take its toll especially after you hit 30 or so.
My friend who retired major from the USMC has run all his life as well, but he did not heed my advice years ago and is now in his mid-40s able to run just fine with even guys 20 years his junior.
Recently he discovered however that his knees are just shot and he can’t even play a soccer match any more only because of that not his cardiovascular conditioning.
Many of the Baby Boomers who were in their 20s in the 1980s during the fitness craze, running all on roads, are now in their late 40s and early 50s needing knee and hip replacement of with serious joint problems. That is no coincidence at all it turns out. Running on asphalt or harder roads on a prolonged basis is just plain bad for your body long-term contary to what too many folks believe.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:37 PM

The Brewers owe Jeff Suppan $12.5 million next year. That never won’t make me laugh.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:41 PM
Love having a gym membership for $20 a month.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:41 PM
unfortunately, in places like NJ, if you can find a track that you are allowed to run on, it is usually covered in canadian geese shit.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:44 PM
sadly, i know Chris Webber’s HS – Detroit Country Day.
i was a hardcore recruiting/college hoops nerd from like 94-99. still sort of that way due to the fantasy league, but not totally.
loved the fab 5. dont think we’ll ever see another, though there have been many pretenders
November 17th, 2009 at 7:44 PM
Paolo just described my fear of running too much. My knees already get sore if I go too long. I like swimming much better.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:46 PM
My workout?
Cock pushups
November 17th, 2009 at 7:47 PM
that was also battier’s school. he received just as much hype, but probably because the team overall was more successful while he was there. he played with both of webbers brothers.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:47 PM
Kyle Singler needs a haircut.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:48 PM
and that is also the best core workout you can get, as long as you do all strokes with their various drills.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:49 PM
Me too rs. Also pulled the trigger Michigan State -12 and TCU +12.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:49 PM
One of the seminal “had to be there” eras of the early 90s, they were something else.
5 minutes left in the first half, NC-Ashville is 0-19 from the field. 53-8, Tennessee.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:50 PM
I’m thinking about this too. How the hell is Gonzaga going to keep this game close?
November 17th, 2009 at 7:51 PM
now you guys are making me nervous.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:52 PM
@sparty: I had this problem here in March at a local school with a gravel track, but I spent most of my time running on the infield anyway.
Solutions? Note that Canadian geese or just about any avian shit of which I am aware does not smell at all when you step in it unlike dogshit and horseshit and so forth.
Of course try to avoid it, but don’t get all worried when you tag it. Also it comes off easily when put in a puddle of water or some very wet grass.
1) Run on the track infield instead.
2) Wear some shoes on their way out and don’t take them in your house.
When the geese and the shit are gone, perhaps throw them out as you would anyway.
Grant it I have the advantage of not working day shifts, which helps tremendously this time of year when sometime after 5 it is already dark and sometime around late 4 something it is already getting dark. That sucks on a nice day like all this week on the East Coast for sure.
But then most of us have weekends and early mornings anyway.
Go figure a seminar on goose shit today even. Who would have thought?
November 17th, 2009 at 7:53 PM
C’mon TBL please you love college hoops. Has this really changed that much?
November 17th, 2009 at 7:54 PM
Bouldin’s going to have to score about 40. Aint happening.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:57 PM
i remember that from my days of playing soccer when i was 8. it was on pretty much every field we played on.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:57 PM
Cracker Jack I know you are a girl but you don’t need to act like it here geez, and plenty of women overcome those feelings too.
But hey nothing wrong with swimming except when it is butt-ass cold like in the winter, when I would still rather be running bundled up rather than swimming even in some heated pool for sure. I had two swim classes in high in the dead of winter, and that’s not happening again.
Improvise and adapt to overcome. Hit the grass, sand, or track. No excuses if you can walk without pain — you can run.
Furthermore it’s better on those nice fall days to be outdoors rather than indoors at some pool.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:58 PM
Nothing to be nervous about. Gonzaga is playing a bunch of freshman and sophomores and a senior that has shat the bed numerous times in big games. MSU wins easily, the question is just by how much.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:01 PM
How come there is always on Gonzaga rockin’ a Dan Dikau haircut?

November 17th, 2009 at 8:04 PM
Thanks.
See, with running now, it can depend. The advances in shoe technology will probably make a huge difference in the amount of wear and tear my legs take. From working at a running store, I’ve become extremely paranoid amount putting any more than 500miles on a pair of shoes, and given that I do 70-100miles a week, I don’t get much out of them.
But for those in the older generation, who neither had access to the cushioning that today’s shoes offer, nor people with the expertise (me!) to properly fit people for shoes, for most of their running careers, I have noticed that yes, they often have knee problems.
However, some relatively credible studies have shown that it’s really about a 50-50 shot whether running heavily destorys your knees, legs, hips, etc. If you’re smart and take care of them, and your shoes, then you should be OK.
Try to mix in trails, when I go for anything longer than 15 I usually hit trails in Philly. There’s a shockingly large amount of soft stuff. You just gotta work it in. Running entirely on roads will catch up with you.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:06 PM
And we had geese problems on my track in high school, then my coach (who ran the Phys. Ed. Dept.) would bring his dog to school and practice, terrified the geese. Now they have cardboard cutouts of dogs placed at a couple spots around the track and geese never come near it.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:08 PM
Where are you in Jersey, sparty? I’m down south in Haddonfield. Aren’t you up north near Bergen Co. or something?
November 17th, 2009 at 8:10 PM
Shut the fuck up Billy.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:10 PM
Battlin’ Billy, you follow CFL ball? Gerard Portmanteau, Karma, and Garland Greene are other Canadians on here.
I took a liking to CFL ball this past summer during NFL football withdrawal. It’s a solid game for which I wish they would use NFL-type endzones and move the goal post to the rear.
Also definitely they could use the 5-yard jam zone instead of only one yard and some serious pass coverage that is lacking. Those big plays are often due to just plain terrible pass coverage more than the throw or the catch too.
I wish the NFL would borrow many of its rules like on open field kicks, kicks out of bounds, men in motion, and singles just to make the game flow better and reduce penalties.
Ricky Ray could be a solid backup in the NFL if not start on the sorrier teams. Arkee Whitlock could play in the NFL for sure as at least a third back. And Arland Bruce III, the cousin(?) of Isaac Bruce, missed his NFL window because he is age 32 but absolutely rocks the league.
If you follow the CFL, which team is your favourite? I think I like Edmonton best myself.

3 reasons why I can’t support Gonzaga
1. They have a 00. Unacceptable.
2. The tight jersey/baggy shorts look is so terrible it’s comical.
3. Gonzaga’s program is an overrated traveshamockery of epic proportions.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:17 PM

/closest thing to “Costanza with pastrami” I’ve ever experienced
November 17th, 2009 at 8:21 PM
@Paolo: yes, I follow the CFL. It’s hard not to growing up here. The quality of the league isn’t quite the same these days, but it was pretty good back in the 80s when I was growing up. I definitely miss the days when there were good quarterbacks on each team.
re: open field kicks, we won a playoff game in high school thanks to one of those at the end of the game. We were a rugby power, so our coach just told our punt returner to kick it back to them if he got bottled up during his return. He did and after it bounced around a bit in the end zone, we recovered it for the win.
I’m a BC fan. I was born out west and that loyalty has just stuck with me all these years. BC-Montreal this weekend in one semi… not that I’ll watch much.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:22 PM
Literally laughed out loud.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:22 PM
I used to like Gonzaga when they came out of nowhere to take on the big dawgs of CBB. They seem to have lost that appeal.
Now my best memory is the tourney game they should have won but choked it away and Adam Morrison crying. That was priceless.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:22 PM
Who the fuck is 45 from Gonzaga? I want to fight him.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:22 PM
Great write-up Billy Buckner. Damn dude you are a serious runner.
I don’t run for distance any more but rather do plyometric and (American) football drills, run sprints on the track, suicides, lateral motion drills, etc. to simulate game conditions as well as just plain play and practise kicks.
I went to runner stores like those where you worked to buy my shoes since 1988, and sure enough they would tell us 300-500 miles depending on the shoe by the 1990s. I went too long on many pairs of those later anyway considering also the inferior technology too.
The folks from the early-to-mid 1980s were the real guinea pigs and seem to have the most serious joint problems I think too, and they blame it on age but that is just not the case when you talk to the average European or many other foreigner who do not share these problems with their American peers.

Exactly. That, and Americans will wear the dumbest shoes ever if they think they look cool. It’s pretty frustrating sometimes. Shox are a perfect example. They’re honestly the worst running shoe being made, but people will still go and spend $150 on those retarded things.

New work schedule — I work 40 hours over three days. I am not going to say which days, but before too long folks can figure it out anyway, as I can’t hit this site at work due to the hot chicks on it that would give the respected firm the wrong idea.
Yes I am off today and having a good time at it.
I did apologise to TBL Godfather for hitting it too hard, in some part after the caffeine this morning (one Hydrive and one Cherry Coke Zero) despite some of the typical mutual haters, but it’s all in our interest I understand not to get into more personal fights (not to be confused with legitimate debate about differing positions). No worries.

If the Brewers could have Gallardo and Lackey 1/2, then Bush is a decent 3/4, and a lot would then depend on Manny Parra. This is gonna be his make or break year. He has shown a pinch of brilliance here and there but mostly shown to be very mentally fragile. If he can get his head straight I like our chances if we would sign Lackey.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:29 PM
So Michigan State can’t throw it in the ocean. Awesome.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:30 PM
Tom Izzo is overrated.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:31 PM
But Michigan State is just so tough and gritty. They will grind this thing out to victory!!!!
November 17th, 2009 at 8:31 PM
Garrick Sherman definitely wears his uniform around campus.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:32 PM
And now Izzo’s players are yelling at him. This looks promising.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:32 PM
I wish the Tournament started today.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:32 PM
because MSU is down by 9 in the first half?
nice tampa, dumbass
November 17th, 2009 at 8:32 PM
@cracker, I’m usually a “one and done” with tv shows. Rarely do I give a show a second chance to win me over. Too much other stuff to do (or that I should be doing) to watch a show that doesn’t grab me.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:33 PM
Will Fosters nickname should be Wolverine.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:34 PM
I knew V would be awful and will take your words for it. They tried it 25 years ago in the 1980s when I was a kid, and the ads strangly ran about the same.
The more something is hyped, the more either usually it sucks ass or will be a disappointment. Otherwise usually why would it be so hyped?
Broadcasters sell ads in part with some basis in the programming achieving certain ratings, which traditionally via AC Nielson are quite dubious but that world has changed dramatically this decade I am confident, and if the program does not cut it they have to give more free air time or even money back (when a show really, really blows) to the advertisers, called a “make good” in industry lingo.
So basically when the broadcasters think something might be the piece of crap that it is, there they are hyping it to all of us just to reduce the “make goods.”
November 17th, 2009 at 8:34 PM
I did apologise to TBL Godfather for hitting it too hard, in some part after the caffeine this morning (one Hydrive and one Cherry Coke Zero) despite some of the typical mutual haters, but it’s all in our interest I understand not to get into more personal fights (not to be confused with legitimate debate about differing positions). No worries.

Isn’t Ed Norton making an appearance on Modern Family this week? I haven’t watched that show yet but since it’s supposed to be good and he’s the fucking man, it seems like a good time to start Hulu-ing it.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:35 PM
Paolo I am actually enjoying your rants today. For real.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:36 PM
What is your major? Education? Everyone I know who went to Michigan State either dropped out or became a teacher.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:36 PM
no problem, paolo. I was just wondering.
im on my phone, the guy who runs 75 to 100 miles a week…what shoes do you recommend? Im running in fucking champion cruisers

November 17th, 2009 at 8:37 PM
@Billy Buckner, Modern Family is definitely a keeper. Solid comedy week in and week out. It’s the only new thing I’m watching this year. Definitely start the Hulu
November 17th, 2009 at 8:39 PM
I’m for anything with Ed Norton.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:39 PM
what does this have to do with anything about sports? i hate stupid people that brings education into a sports conversation.

November 17th, 2009 at 8:42 PM
Who is that shitty Mulatto guy with the afro on Gonzaga? Hes fuckin shit up
November 17th, 2009 at 8:43 PM
Well, I’d preface this by suggesting you find a specialty running store close to you, where they look at your foot and fit you. Off the top of my head, if you overpronate (roll in), the two most universally loved are the Asics 2140 (it may be the 2150 now) or the Nike Structure Triax. If you’re nuetral or supinate (roll out), try the Saucony Ride or Asics Cumulus. Those are all on the more inexpensive side as well.
Will do. Community has been solid, too.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:43 PM
exactly, your a dumbass.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:43 PM
@jpq, it’s weird, the older I get the less patient I get with just ok tv stuff. A few years ago I had a really bad tv addiction problem. I slowly weaned myself (not having a tv for a few months helped) and now not watching it isn’t life or death.

JPQ you gave me a second chance though. In our first debate, we battled about Buffalo and its fans. Being a long-time Dolphin fan until 2007, that was enough of them missing the playoffs. Of course I had many ugly things to say about those Bills.
The rest is TBL history.
In other news, PL had a great post you might enjoy from earlier today. He was quite thorough and it just might be the funniest post of the day:
http://thebiglead.com/?p=28605#comment-578179
What a great three days it has been. First on Sunday night we had TBL’s jinx that worked, then yesterday JPQ’s friend’s girl pooped on his friend’s chest before leaving and created an urban legend that lives on to this day, and today that! Only on TBL folks.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:46 PM
V is good, people!

Battlin’ good stuff on Canadian football. BC has some great receivers too, and either could play in the NFL I think as a third receiver, as they all have great hands. I guess the quality of play really is down, and you are not even that interested in watching any more.
I play rugby (union) too, and I understand totally what you mean it being advantageous to have rugby guys on a Canadian football team.

Next time Mark Few gets a job offer at another school he needs to take it.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:50 PM
Wow, so you quit being a fan cuz the team sucked?
November 17th, 2009 at 8:50 PM

that’s why I spend a lot of nights on TBL After Dark and tonight I’m surfing cnet and other places to read up on a new computer I’m buying. My wife is watching a DVR of Desperate Housewives right now, so I’m close but not having to pay attention to that awefulness.
I DVR a couple shows/week, and then watch misc cable stuff later. I hardly ever watch anything on “The Big 4″ networks anymore.

What is it with chicks and “Desperate Housewives” or should I say “Desperate Bitches”? I think their attraction to it is like our constant attraction to better porn. We are all living vicariously but differently?
They don’t get it and we don’t get them.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:55 PM
Anyone listen to the B.S. Report? Simmons had Super Dave on. They talk about Marty Funkhouser on Curb and basketball, mostly the Lakers. Super Dave is a big Laker fan. And Simmons keeps calling Marty Funkhouser Morty.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:59 PM
Not just sucked, but the Dolphins never had absolutely anything going for them for the most part post-Marino. They never had a steady quarterback for that matter. I couldn’t take missing the playoffs or melting down so consistently when they were in a position to make them any more, so enough was enough. Dolphins 1983-2007 RIP for me.

v4l: Actually, I said today on here I want a young, aggressive, get under your skin kinda guy, a la Mike Tomlin. I said Jim Harbaugh (thinking out of the box), and NFL Network said Minnesota and Cincinnati DC’s Leslie Frazier and Mike Frazier. IN that mold, even if they flame, would at least be a different personality than they always seem to hire.
They need to literally gut the staff and start over, and a 91 y/o owner is probably not interested in that. When he dies, the team will immediately be sold, as the family doesn’t want it and can’t afford the tax bill on inheriting a $750 million asset.

Kornheiser going off on that Mike Wise column is awesome. I love Kornheiser as well. He calls out Wise for that idiotic article. How uncreative is that for a column idea anyway? He deserved to get ripped. Like anyone can predict whats gonna happen in the NFL. That’s why I loathe the parts of pregame shows where the talking heads try to predict the scores. Your guess is as good as mine asshole!
November 17th, 2009 at 9:36 PM
Shanahan to Buffalo??
He would pay not to go there.
as much as I hate to agree w/ tampa, he is 100% right. The Bills can only attract retreads like Jauron or the 3rd place winner of that year’s new hot coordinator contest.
They owe Jauron $6 million ($3 million for 2 years). Wilson will NEVER pay a guy like him $5-$7 milion/year on top of that. He’s too cheap and cash poor.

Denver was Shanny’s football home. SF only had him for about 4-5 years. And Chicago is his actual place o’ birth-type home.
Sorry. He moved there out of college(metaphorically) but SF is where he grew up(again, metaphorically). He became a coaching star after SB 29. He moved to Denver because he found a good job there. He’s a West Coast guy if there ever was one.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:09 PM
I wish there was some kind of breakdown for clutch play in the NCAA. I bet Boldin is somewhere near the bottom of that list. He is the prototypical 36 minute player.

As I commented with 7.5 years living in Metro DC having to listen to that shit local media far more delusional than here in Philly, but with the fans on that count reversed believe it or not, Kornheiser hit that one out of the park.
That’s the way the homer media in Metro DC are with sucking Snyder’s cock until at last they had to get on his case these past few weeks thanks in part to John Riggins.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:11 PM
tough shot by Gray, looked like he walked, though
November 17th, 2009 at 10:11 PM
You know he was an assistant with Denver before SF right? And got his career into high gear with Denver before going to Oakland as the HC.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:12 PM
gotta agree with izzo there – 20, whoever he is, was totally carrying the ball on all those backdown dribbles. so obvious to see, how’d the refs miss it?
November 17th, 2009 at 10:12 PM
Does MSU not have a shot blocker? Two chances in the paint with no one altering the shot. Weird.

November 17th, 2009 at 10:14 PM

You know he was an assistant with Denver before SF right? And got his career into high gear with Denver before going to Oakland as the HC.
If you count Al Davis hiring you as head coach for one season as putting your career in high gear then you may be right. But his time in SF made him. He coached the most efficient offense of all time and the team actually won the Super Bowl. Unlike the Vikings and Pats in their great offensive years.

Oh snap Gemma is gonna fuck tig! he is fucked
November 17th, 2009 at 10:20 PM
Good to see Boldin disappear the last two minutes. Shocking, I know.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:20 PM
Good point about Davis but he was still sought after while in Denver. I do understand why you think he’d want to go back to SF since he does have roots there. But can the DeCorruptolo-York family afford him?

UHoh opie knows the truth

Fuck Gonzaga they suck at life. Michigan State gets bounced in the second round this year.

Is that supposed to hurt my feelings? DeBartolo was the coolest owner ever and his crimes were outside the football realm. He hired Bill Walsh. The Niners didn’t win 5 Super Bowls in 15 years because he was corrupt, they won them because he hired Bill Walsh.

Kansas is going to be the best defensive team in the country this year. Offense? well…
November 17th, 2009 at 10:24 PM

I bet it does. Sorry for acting like a bitter jackass. I’m drunk.

Ha, no. Triston touched on the fact that he spent nearly an entire decade with Denver before leaving for Oakland, a decade that saw him coach in two Super Bowls. His rep was made before SF, which is why Davis hired him to be HC.
In total, he probably spent nearly two full decades with the Broncos. But yes, absolutely, the fact that he worked for the Niners for five seasons is incontrovertible proof that they are the favorites to land him.
Wait, what the fuck? Why am I even arguing about this?
November 17th, 2009 at 10:31 PM
Triston, have they already started tearing Mangino down?
November 17th, 2009 at 10:35 PM
I didn’t think you were bitter. Just defending Shanny’s roots.
clown, he’s as good as gone. Possibly as early as Thursday. Did you read any of the comments at BC? Some good ‘info’. Good stuff at Oread Boom Kings too.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:42 PM
Clown – That is nothing. KU has decided to rip him. Parking ticket yelling at people is peanuts compared to what will (or has been leaked) come out. I am actually wondering if he makes it to Saturday.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:42 PM
I didn’t even realize you read BC. I usually just skim the comments if I read them at all.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:46 PM
The fuck is BC?
November 17th, 2009 at 10:46 PM
I started writing (somewhat) at OBK so I read it by association.

Barking Carnival. A Texas blog but there are other B12 blogs associated with it.

Clown: Apparently Kansas is going after Muschamp.
Id rather have Patterson.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:56 PM
Mark Mangino is important to the University and doesn’t have to deal with this crap!
That guy is a pustule.
