Ballin’: Kobe’s Circus Layup … Just Like Mike
NBA, Video November 18th. 2009, 11:20amDetroit 93, LA Lakers 106: Kobe had 40, and these two were his sickest of the night. He still leads the league in scoring, and you wonder if Ron Artest’s yapping has infected Kobe. First came the “I eat first” comment; now, he’s boasting about beating Pau Gasol 1-on-1. Seems strange. Andrew Bynum had his sixth straight double-double (17 points, 12 boards), and he’s got eight in nine games this year. Will Bynum scored 24 off the bench for Detroit.
Golden State 108, Cleveland 114: The Cavs peeled off fifth their win a row on the strength of 31 points and 12 assists from LeBron and 58 percent shooting from the field. Due to the trade and Don Nelson’s expanding doghouse, the Warriors only used seven players; all of them scored in double figures (including Stephen Curry, who had 14). It’s getting increasingly worse for Golden State – Monta Ellis looks like he’s the next one to get booted from Don Nelson’s sinking ship.
Indiana 91, New Jersey 83: The walking-wounded Nets remain the only winless team in the league at 0-11. The Pacers have won five in a row, and are unbeaten (4-0) when Tyler Hansbrough plays. Weird stat: Roy Hibbert (19-12) has four double-doubles in eight games. (Everyone’s favorite center, Greg Oden, only has two in 12 games.) The Nets, had two young kids who played well: CDR (27-12) and Brook Lopez (26-16).
Oklahoma City 100, Miami 87: The Thunder are road warriors now? That’s three in a row on the road for the – gasp! – 6-5 Kevin Durants. Last year, OKC started 6-32. KD scored 32 and Westbrook added 24 in a surprisingly easy victory. The Heat are 7-3.
Phoenix 111, Houston 105: We’re beginning to reach the point where we stop being stunned by the Suns. Phoenix is a staggering 10-2 and continue to just outscore everyone. Amare had 23 and J Rich scored 20. One reason why we haven’t conceded that we were wrong about the Suns – they were smoked by the Magic and Lakers, and other than an impressive wins in Boston and Miami, the early schedule has been favorable. Hell, they could win the next four this month! The first test: 2nd week of December – at Lakers, at Mavs, vs. Magic, at Denver. They go 2-2 in that stretch and we’ll be sold.

Are you going to wait until the all-star break to admit you were wrong about the Hawks?
November 18th, 2009 at 11:22 AM
AC laughing never gets old
November 18th, 2009 at 11:23 AM
Waiting for Hawks shoot around to wrap up any minute and I’ll be interviewing Jeff Teague. I’ll put it up on the web ASAP if anyone wants to listen.

Anyone catch on the SG podcast where John Wooden told Super Dave that Kobe is the best basketball player he’s ever seen?
November 18th, 2009 at 11:27 AM
the guy who coached in los angeles thinks that? weird.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:29 AM
John Wooden – thousand year old man WITH AN AGENDA.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:30 AM
8 of the Suns first 12 have been on the road. They lost at Orlando and at LA after back to backs. Now yes they did get their doors blown off by them but those two teams just played for a title. The Suns will continue to gel all season. I don’t see any reason why they can’t get to the 4 or 5 seed.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:30 AM
What is weird about that? He’s good.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:31 AM
Roy Hibbert (19-12) has four double-doubles in eight games
He’s looked like a completely different player this year. He’s quicker and more agile than he ever was at GTown.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:32 AM
Durant better have saved his A game for tonight
November 18th, 2009 at 11:33 AM
The NBA is so scripted. Kobe vs. LeGlobal Icon in the Finals. Book it.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:36 AM
people said the same thing last year mags
November 18th, 2009 at 11:36 AM
I feel like GS could have got a little bit more for Stephen Jackson. Jax really could have helped a team on the verge (Miami, Utah, OKC, etc.)
November 18th, 2009 at 11:38 AM
i love capn’ jack…wanted the cavs to get him.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:38 AM
Yeah, would’ve been a great fit there, too.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:39 AM
I was up there last night, and was around the team for awhile…couldn’t believe how much more sculpted he is compared to last year.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:40 AM
i love capn’ jack…wanted the cavs to get him.
Why? So he can be disgruntled next year when he’s the best player on a bad team?
November 18th, 2009 at 11:40 AM
Who is Super Dave?
November 18th, 2009 at 11:40 AM
I meant to quote Illformula in the above…I was referring to Hibbert.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:40 AM
That’s really understating things. To me, crazy Don decided that he was going to put Captain Jack on the absolute worst team that he could find and worry about what he got back later. It’s all good to want to screw an asshole like Stephen, but not at the detriment of your franchise. If GS has an owner who gave a shit, that trade would have been a fireable offense alone.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:40 AM
Bulls over.500 in after first ten games since 97-98. Jordan’s last year.
/organizations win champsionships-Jerry Krause
November 18th, 2009 at 11:41 AM
Right, because Wooden’s status in the game is tenuous and was built just yesterday People in LA would turn on him completely if he mentioned someone other than Kobe.
//Damn, I wish some people would gain an appreciation of history
/// or atleast learn about it.

Super Dave is often accompanied on his various exploits by loyal friend, sidekick and assistant stunt coordinator Fuji Hakayito, played by comedian Art Irizawa. It is usually left to Fuji to set whatever stunt Dave is performing in motion. He is the inspiration and head of the fictional “Super Dave Compound”—a combination resort, theme park, learning center, and anything else needed for the plot-line of a particular episode. Many of his misadventures were based on demonstrating various aspects of the compound.

i think it’s more about his incredibly advanced age and the fact that senility makes people say stupid things like kobe is the best bball player they’ve ever seen.
he saw jordan. he saw kareem.
kobe aint in that discussion.

Wednesday, December 2nd, @Cleveland………..sounds like a test to me.

@Irish – thoughts on the Jameer Nelson injury and it’s impact?
November 18th, 2009 at 11:44 AM
Super Dave is Marty Funkhauser
November 18th, 2009 at 11:45 AM
Not if the Cavs play Shaq for more then 20 minutes. The Suns will run him out of the gym
November 18th, 2009 at 11:47 AM
even walton has admitted that wooden ran the most corrupt program in ncaa history.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:47 AM
@Irish – thoughts on the Jameer Nelson injury and it’s impact?
very disappointed because Orlando was about to have everyone back. out 4-6 weeks, 10-16 games. I hope White Chocolate can handle the starting spot. guess it is better it happened now, than later in the season
November 18th, 2009 at 11:51 AM
Darrell, any more it seems to be a fat chance in this instant, interactive, tweeting world in which those under 25 or so live. You’ll notice them when they comment on this site. Not that many other folks don’t have an appreciation of history either, but that generation has to be the absolute worst with regard to recognising or learning about history and its context.
It just was not near that bad for the same age group 10 years or so ago.
Then again when they get to 30 probably they will change.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:52 AM
And the surrogate.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:54 AM
Super Dave is hilarious on Curb.
And nice of LeBron to pad his “GPE” stats by making sure to block the ball so unnecessarily hard that it went out of bounds, thus making it another guaranteed possession extender (fourth of the year).
November 18th, 2009 at 11:56 AM
Says the guy who thinks Don Sutton was better than Bert Blyleven
November 18th, 2009 at 11:58 AM
Have you seen Don Sutton’s hair? He wins out on that alone.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:58 AM
As promised, here’s my interview with Jeff Teague. Not my best work, but it’s not godawful. Jeff’s a nice kid, but not the world’s most engaging guy.
Hawks Rookie Jeff Teague
November 18th, 2009 at 12:12 PM
Who made an argument for Don Sutton? I ridicule the notion that Blyleven was better than Gibson and Carlton.
November 18th, 2009 at 12:13 PM
lol at people on here slamming John Wooden because he had the
to praise Kobe. How dare he? He clearly must be senile if he thinks Kobe is that good! That fool knows nothing!
Yeah, I found Kobe’s “I eat first” comments kind of wierd too. I guess he’s holding down the fort till Pau returns, but I liked LA’s offense much more last year. D-Fish got 5 years older since we last saw him play basketball.
November 18th, 2009 at 12:14 PM
why did audacity come out like that? TBL needs an edit button.
November 18th, 2009 at 12:14 PM
Making the argument of whether where he is on that list is one thing. Saying he isn’t even in the discussion at this point is absurd.
November 18th, 2009 at 12:18 PM
yeah he is.
November 18th, 2009 at 12:18 PM
As I recall that argument, no one was saying that Blyleven was better than either of those guys, just that he deserves to be in the Hall. Because he does. You did, however, say that he wasn’t as good as Ron Guidry.
November 18th, 2009 at 12:18 PM
Making the argument of WHERE he is on that list is one thing. Saying he isn’t even in the discussion is absurd.
November 18th, 2009 at 12:20 PM
Objectivity at its best.
November 18th, 2009 at 12:21 PM
As proof of Blyleven’s “greatness” someone provided a list that had him as the 12th or something greatest pitcher of all time. Gibson and Carlton were amongst the pitchers he was considered better than. And I stand by my assertion that Guidry was better.
November 18th, 2009 at 12:26 PM
Fair enough. I stand by my assertion that Dennis Smith was better than Ronnie Lott.
/Makes as much sense
November 18th, 2009 at 12:37 PM
They were both great hitters, Lott had much better cover skills coming from starting his career off as a corner. Lott was better. Now, you tell me what made Blyleven better than Guidry, Carlton, and Gibson.
November 18th, 2009 at 1:36 PM
Blyleven was better than Guidry because he was good for a much longer period of time. Guidry’s time was short (and sweet).
As compared to Carlton or Gibson, I’ve got nothing…
November 18th, 2009 at 2:44 PM
As I’ve made abundantly clear over the course of this seemingly endless debate, in no way do I believe that Blyleven was better than The Anti-Semitic Lefty or Gibson.
I do believe that he was better than Ron Guidry, though, for basically the same reasons that Wally mentioned–Bert finished his career with 3,700+ strikeouts and some ungodly number of shutouts. Guidry was very good for a while, yes, but I don’t think it’s possible to make an argument that he was the clearly better pitcher.
And my Dennis Smith comment was pure, unadulterated sarcasm. Even though I do love me some Dennis.
