Mark Mangino: Not Fired (Yet) But Now He’s Fat and an “Abusive Bully”
1-liner, College Football November 19th. 2009, 1:50pmMark Mangino: “Mark Mangino is an abusive bully. He’s been one from the moment he stepped on campus at Kansas. He used bully tactics to build a winning football team in 2007 and intimidate anyone on campus who dared to stand in his way. Abusive bullies are dangerous, and leaders of institutions and members of the media have an obligation to stand up to them.” The pressure’s on Kansas to fire Mangino. He’s probably a goner. He cursed out cops who tried to give him a parking ticket! Who among us hasn’t done that? [KC Star]

Best part:
I’m not going to belabor the point I made in my column Wednesday, but you can surmise the primary reason Mangino illegally parked next to his office day after day.

I would love for someone at ESPN to ask Bobby Knight for his take on all this.

I don’t think Whitlock has ever liked Mangino. I remember when Mangino was hired Whitlock asked him at the press conference if he thought his weight was an issue with getting hired as a head coach. Mangino responded by asking if Whitlock’s weight was an issue with him getting a job at the KC Star (or something like that).
As much as I hate Kansas and would love to jump on them over just about anything, I have yet to hear anything that he’s done that seems all that bad.

It’s crazy to think about how quickly Mangino has fallen out of favor at KU.

making fun of a kid whose dad was an alcoholic. Making jokes about a kid’s brother who was shot. Stuff like that.
November 19th, 2009 at 1:59 PM
This reminds me of when Jonathan Moxon took over as the QB for the West Canaan Coyotes. It was all downhill from there for ol’ Bud Kilmer.

I think Whitlock’s just happy to be writing about something relevant for the first time since Kansas Football’s season ended last year.
/unless you want to argue Kansas State was “relevant.”

“I don’t want your life” – Worst accent ever.

Whens Tweeder going to comment?
November 19th, 2009 at 2:08 PM
This stuff is half about Lew Perkins not liking Mangino and half the players becoming anti Mangino. Of course if they were 7-3 and not 5-5 this stuff probably would never have come to light.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:08 PM
I guess I hadn’t heard those two. I just heard that he poked one kid in the chest, told another kid to shut up or he’d send him back to St. Louis to get shot at with his homies (is that the kid whose brother was shot?) and yelled and screamed at his players. The stuff the one kid twittered about seemed pretty lame, really.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:10 PM
To be fair though, his brother only got shot in the arm. His players definitely didn’t like him using the word “homies” though.

TST: Kansas State is in the most bizarre situation ever. Beat Nebraska and they play Texas for the B12 title. Lose, and they don’t even make a bowl game. Just wierd.
Go Big Red.

has mangino ever grabbed a player’s face mask coming off the field on national tv?
very little backlash for a coach (alice the goon at south florida) who did just that recently.

This seems to be about an AD who wants his guy as opposed to being stuck with Mangino. I think MM is a very good coach, but the stigma he will have to combat in recruiting from here on out will be a tough hill to climb.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:13 PM
Also a former captain blames an ACL tear he had on being rushed back to play too soon. That may not fall directly on Mangino, but he’s still responsible for it.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:13 PM
im sorry…enough fucking kansas football.
if mangino wasn’t a fucking land-manatee that had a cute baby dress up like him in the best halloween costume ever in history nobody would fucking give a shit about this.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:14 PM
What’s wrong with grabbing a player’s facemask? It wasn’t like he was jerking his head around.

Yes. This was all orchestrated by East Coast Lew. Whether or not Fat Boy deserves what is coming is moot. He’s done. No way he can recruit.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:16 PM
Assuming the player just made a dumb mistake, there’s nothing wrong with this.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:18 PM
Lincecum wins second straigh Cy Young.
Fuck.
Deserved it.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:19 PM
i find what alice the good did to be far more disturbing than anything i’ve read about mangino.
well done spencer!
November 19th, 2009 at 2:20 PM
Would you rather discuss Bob Stoops or Urban Meyer’s next potential job? Come on man, progress is good. Baby steps, baby steps.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:20 PM
Best. Picture. Ever.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:21 PM
if mangino was a drill instructor this would be a normal ass chewing lol
November 19th, 2009 at 2:22 PM
i still want to know who in their right mind started the stoops to ND rumor or if TBL just pulled it out of his poopchute.
plus we all know urban’s taking over for tressel when the vest retires. osu is meyer’s REAL dream job.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:22 PM
baby mangino FTW.
for what it’s worth, my fantasy team named baby mangino is 8-2 and leading the division.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:23 PM
ugh. dont remind me of fantasy. ive lost 2 straight and after this weekend my last 2 wins will come against a team with no players due to inactivitity
November 19th, 2009 at 2:24 PM
Even though you homered that up something fierce, that’s something that I could be talked into believing.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:25 PM
im sorry…enough fucking kansas football.
We listened to you talk about a crappy quarterback all summer. At least give me the solace of watching KU slide all the way back to Suck.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:28 PM
you get all college hoops season.
no dice.
and please…nobody listens to me.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:29 PM
TST: I hate it, but I agree. It was a really close call, but Lincecum was probably the right choice.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:30 PM
if mangino was a drill instructor this would be a normal ass chewing lol
texans, we had a lengthy f’in discussion with mrejr yesterday on the jayhawk twitter post. it was hitting a coach versus hitting a DI
November 19th, 2009 at 2:31 PM
i think he stays at florida as long as they’ll have him. even tho he’d be a dream in columbus, don’t think i actually believe he’s going to EVER end up there.
but he does have incredibly strong ties to the buckeye state…not enough to make this ridiculousness even plausible, but it’s there.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:43 PM
But he isn’t.
November 19th, 2009 at 3:08 PM
Wow TBL, come up with this headline all by yourself or did Duffy help you?
This is what spencer meant to say. While stomping off of course.
