No Wonder Everyone Hates Pete Carroll
1-liner, College Football November 29th. 2009, 11:00amUSC-UCLA: The Trojans led 21-7 and with less than a minute to play, Matt Barkley uncorked a 48-yard TD pass. The USC sideline went bananas. The UCLA sideline was peeved. The Bruins moved toward midfield as if ready to fight with the Trojans. On Sportscenter, video showed Barkley laughing and saying “look at the scoreboard.” He really is cut from the Cobra Kai cloth. Carroll? We’ll let CBS basketball analyst Seth Davis say what nearly everyone is thinking. [Plaschke, Simers]

but UCLA led 21-7 and with less than a minute to play
I think you meant “USC led 21-7″
/But Carroll is a douche.

UCLA was never up 21-7 in this game.

Isn’t Neuheisel on equal douche footing here? Game would have ended had he simply let the clock expire

U$C is just trying to recapture their swagga.
November 29th, 2009 at 11:27 AM

I know that, I, for one, would be shocked if Bin Laden got away under the watchful eye of an administration that led us into an unjust war while also nearly taking our economy to a guns and ammo tipping point.

i am pissed. after usc went up 21-7 late i went to bed. i missed the festivities.

The way I remember it being told, Bin Laden got away because we got in a political clusterfuck with the Pakistanis, who wanted to “contribute” to his capture. This “negotiating” was a ploy to waste time to allow Bin Laden to escape.
They were loyal to Bin Laden and/or paid off, but the time wasted trying to figure it out was what allowed Bin Laden to slide out

Again, this does not tell the whole story. With 50 seconds left and USC running the clock out Neuheisel called timeout. He obviously wanted the ball back. If I was Carroll I would have done the same thing. If you want to call timeouts when the game is obviously over then USC can do whatever the hell they want.
I don’t like Carroll’s antics, but last night he gets a pass. Randy Edsall on the other hand ran it up for Uconn. 4th down, up by 11 with 30 seconds left and he threw a 30 yard TD for no reason. SU had no timeouts.
UCLA should be embarrassed at the way they acted. Your OWN coach called TO and said play to the end. For one night, it was the other team’s fault. Not USC. Caroll said it best at the end of the game. “They’re calling timeouts so the game isn’t over. We were going to run it out, but they wanted to keep playing and we hit a pass play.”
November 29th, 2009 at 12:30 PM
because he couldnt go for 9.
/remember that one time when that one coach said because he couldnt go for 3? remember? ‘d
November 29th, 2009 at 12:41 PM
fUCLA did call a time out, usc couldn’t run out the clock that way, so they were forced into running a play.
November 29th, 2009 at 12:51 PM
if ucla used there next two time outs on second and third down, usc is punting with about 30 seconds left and ucla down 2 scores (and now no timeouts). even if they “had” to run a play, just run the ball up the gut. ucla’s guys gotta still play d, they obviously weren’t taking a knee when they came out in the spread, but the move was bush league. even more bush league was carroll and usc jumping up and down like they just won a national title. two mediocre teams, played a sub-mediocre game where the best thing to happen had nothing really to do with their crappy play. now i love standford going for 2 to try drop a round 50.

I just do not get the outrage over this. If I was a coach I would tell my players to play there asses off the whole game whether we were up or down. It is the other coaches job to have his kids do the same and prevent my team from scoring time after time. Everyone is getting so soft and so easily offended by everything

No wrong done by USC. At. All. They tried to kneel the clock out, but Neuheisel wanted to play football. So USC played some football.
And, ooooh the humanity! They jumped up and down! and taunted! and pointed their fingers at their hated crosstown rivals, who wouldn’t let them run the clock out in an act of sportsmanship!! Fuck me?? No, Fuck you.
November 29th, 2009 at 1:24 PM
I don’t know about any outrage, but there is something funny about Pete “What’s your deal?” Carroll running up the score.
November 29th, 2009 at 1:41 PM
i think what annoyed me more than the actually play itself was petey’s act afterward. he looked like an idiot running up and down the sidelines up 3 scores against a .500 team. congratulations you just beat one of the worst teams in your conference and besides that play, your offense didn’t do squat the whole game. act like you’ve been there before and plan on getting there again peter.
