Hayden Panettiere, the cute blond from Heroes, may or may not be dating heavyweight boxing champ Wladimir Klitschko. As impossible as this sounds, Panettiere and Klitschko were photographed poolside in Miami this week. She’s 5-foot-1 and probably 100 pounds; he’s 6-foot-6 and in the neighborhood of 240 pounds. On Florida’s opening drive in the Tebow Bowl, tailback Jeff Demps attempted to stay on his feet by planting his hand in the turf. Unfortunately, that’s where his defiant left elbow grotesquely went the wrong way. Perhaps it was just an optical illusion on our TV, or maybe Billick is significantly larger than Tebow’s No. 1 fan, er, Brennaman. Now sit back with a Rolling Rock and listen to Brennaman worship at the altar of Tebow.
New Year’s Day Bowl Games Aren’t Quite What They Used to Be, But There’s Hockey and Hoops, Too

New Year’s Day college football has become less viewer-friendly in recent years; the schools make money, the fans suffer. Gone are the days of games on two or three channels for 10 straight hours; if the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl are blowouts, you’re SOL. If only the Bowl games had a clue and had played the three Saturday games today. Sigh. The good news is that there’s a terrific college hoops game between two unbeatens – West Virginia and Purdue. And assuming rain isn’t a factor, there’s also that hockey game at Fenway.
Happy New Year! We did this on Jan. 1 2008, and again last year. It was inspired by the paper that does this best, the Washington Post. We’d like to thank you for your support in what was a banner 2009, and we can only hope for more of the same in 2010. There will be no rhyme or reason to our posting this weekend; expect the frequency to pick up as our hangover wears off.
