Lost: The Final Season

College Basketball, TV 281 Comments »

lost what a great show the best everno show in tv history can touch lostLost, the best show on TV, premieres tonight. We’re torn: On one hand, we’re thrilled that our favorite show (ever?) is back on! Oh, but it is the last season we’ll ever have it. So it’ll be a melancholy night at TBL HQ. That said, we’ll be shutting down the CPU from 830-11 to soak it all in (starting 30 minutes late so we can fast-forward through commercials). We won’t even switch the channel to John Wall vs. Ole Miss. There will be a Lost post tomorrow in the morning (10 am) for fans of the show. Good Lost twitter follows here and here.

Paul Pierce Might Have a Broken Foot

NBA 34 Comments »

paul pierce boston celtics injuryDavid Aldridge is reporting that the Celtics’ 32-year-old forward might have suffered a broken foot last night against Washington. This would be a crippling blow to Boston’s NBA Finals hopes. Right now, the aging Celtics definitely are not better than the Cavs and Magic, and the Atlanta Hawks swept ‘em (4-0) this year. Time to break up the team that had a good run? Rebuild around Rondo and Perkins. [NBA.com]

Allegedly, these are photos of Favre's ankle and hamstring, which were sent by Favre's agent Bus Cook to a writer in Mississippi. Pobrecito! [Clarion Ledger] (29)

NCAA Tournament Profile: Louisville. In or Out?

College Basketball 12 Comments »

samardo samuels louisville ncaa tournamentWe have Louisville in. Joe Lunardi has Louisville among his “first four out.” Sports Illustrated and Fox Sports have Louisville out:
14-8, 5-4 in the toughest conference in the country.
RPI: 43, SOS: 5. Non-conference losses to UNLV, Charlotte, and Western Carolina (all before Christmas). Read the rest of this entry »

Gilbert Arenas: "Professional athletes have a duty to act responsibly and to understand the influence we have on all those kids who look up to us. I failed to live up to that responsibility when I broke the law and set such a bad example." While we agree that the athletes must act more responsibly, and think this is a job well done by Arenas, it is more important for parents to let their kids know that athletes are not to be viewed as role models. Can we end the hero worship over athletes? [Wash Post] (20)

justin morneau and wifeJoe Mauer: A city waits. Mauer, the prodigiously talented catcher who is well on his way to becoming the most beloved Minnesota athlete in the State's history, is tantalizingly close to signing a lengthy deal (10 years?) with the Twins. The reigning AL MVP is about to enter the final year of his contract. All indications are that the born and bred Minnesotan will remain a Twin. Rats. He'd look splendid in pinstripes taking over for Jorge Posada behind the plate. If these talks somehow fall apart, it'll be a feeding frenzy for Mauer. [Star Trib] [Ed. Super Bowl Media Day, in Pictures

Nnamdi Asomugha: The 2nd best cornerback in the league said at the Pro Bowl this weekend he'd love to play alongside Darrelle Revis. And now, Cam Inman of the Oakland Tribune thinks that trading Asomugha might be the right move. "Do the deal, as long as Al Davis nabs a franchise-saving package of draft picks and players in return. Asomugha's value is sky high ... He is a magnificent bargaining chip who could generate a blockbuster trade, along the standard set by Herschel Walker going from the Dallas Cowboys to the Minnesota Vikings in 1989." Can't imagine the Raiders contemplating this, but the Jets should do it in a heartbeat, assuming the asking price doesn't involve Sanchez, Greene, or Harris. [Trib] (51)

Road Trip: Super Bowl 44

Super Bowl Road Trip 63 Comments »

im desheveled and in the middle of a laughWe’ll be spending a few days in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area this week to take in the grandiose spectacle that is Super Bowl week. We’ve done it before (Jacksonville, Detroit, Miami), but this time we have no clue as to what kind of access we’ll be able to secure. If you’re aware of any events/parties you think we should attend, drop us an email. Publicists have thrown a slew of athlete names at us for possible interviews, but we’ll remain skeptical until they actually happen. If we are going to interview an athlete, we’ll try to do a quick post to let you know (so you can fire off questions), make a mention in the comments, or tweet about it. The last time we were in Miami, this happened; we can only hope there are parties of this caliber this week. * Photo from summer 2005.
