2010 NBA Draft Night, Featuring Some Interesting Fashion Decisions
By Jason McIntyre
[Update: Portland just fired general manager Kevin Pritchard. One hour before the draft.]
1. Washington Wizards – John Wall, Kentucky. Doesn’t technically happen until 7:30, but this is lock city. Update: Official.
2. Philadelphia 76ers – Evan Turner, Ohio State. Not even on the clock yet, but this one’s a layup. Update: Official.
3. New Jersey Nets – Derrick Favors, Georgia Tech. Not a huge surprise. Should set Jersey up nicely at PF-C for years to come … unless they deal him.
4. Minnesota Timberwolves – Wesley Johnson, Syracuse. David Kahn can exhale, he got his guy.
5. Sacramento Kings – DeMarcus Cousins, Kentucky. Again, no surprise. That’s 5-for-5!
6. Golden State Warriors – Ekpe Udoh, Baylor. I still haven’t missed! Udoh looked awesome against Duke in the NCAA tournament. Hopefully, he can avoid Don Nelson’s doghouse. [Cool: Udoh’s middle name is Friday]
7. Detroit Pistons – Greg Monroe, Georgetown. This team’s frontcourt is a mess. Don’t see Detroit in the playoffs next year.
8. Los Angeles Clippers – Al-Farouq Aminu, Wake Forest. Well, they needed a small forward. Thought Gordon Hayward would have been a better fit, but Aminu is immensely talented.
9. Utah Jazz – Gordon Hayward, Butler. Just seems like the consummate Jerry Sloan player. No pressure on him to score with Deron leading the way. Love this pick.
10. Indiana Pacers – Paul George, Fresno State. First head-scratcher. He’s a SF. Indiana’s best player is a SF (Granger). Why?
The next pick will be in the next post.
Mock draft so far: 6-for-10, missed picks 7-10.
