Pittsburgh Pirates Clinch 18th Consecutive Losing Season
Baseball, Mascots August 21st. 2010, 1:30pm
The Pittsburgh Pirates have now officially suffered 18 straight losing seasons. It wasn’t even close. Yesterday’s 7-2 loss to the Mets dropped the Pirates to a major league worst, 40-82. Yes, if they had won yesterday they only would have needed to win the next 40 games to get to .500. *thisclose*
The Pirates current losing streak is 4 games. Last year they became North America’s first professional franchise to have 17 consecutive losing seasons. This was also the fastest a Pirates squad has reach the 82-loss mark. I imagine the fans are so bummed that even a mascot eating babies can’t cheer them up.
