Its Thursday night and that means two things – Jersey Shore and preseason NFL football! Oh, fine. You don’t care about any of that. You’re red-blooded ‘Mericans so all you really care about is the triumphant return of your beloved college football. Four ranked teams are kicking off their season tonight. Big whoop. I went S. Miss +13 !/2, Pitt-Utah under 48.5 – I figure Pitt will try to ground it out with a new QB and Utah will be fired up on D for the home opener. I went over 47 for Ohio State – that seems low for a 28 point line. I figure Marcshall will at least get a 3 in the first half off a turnover or a drive and a garbage TD late. That puts them at 10 at least so Ohio State will have to score at least 38 to cover.

Early thoughts for Miami/OSU, OSU looks seriously much nastier up front, I’ve seen them play many creampuffs and not dominate the line of scrimmage like they did tonight. We were also flying on defense. It will be awfully tough for the U to match up against our lines. We blitzed maybe twice all game, that will not be the story next week. It’s 3,000 miles away….from LA. To say nothing of road trips to the rest of the continental U.S. They had a poor history of institutional support as well (part of the reason June Jones left). Colt Brennan told stories about players having to buy their own soap for the locker room showers. They learned their lesson after Jones left and have started to support the program better, but at the end of the day, you still have a coach asking kids to travel really far from home to play football and not everyone is capable of that. Especially if you have more prestigious offers that don’t require a 7 hour plane flight.
