College Football Predictions for 2010
College Football September 2nd. 2010, 12:45pmThe 2010 College Football season kicks off tonight. After the jump are our predictions for the BCS Bowl Games, the Heisman and a few other details.
BCS Title Game: Alabama (BCS #1) vs. Ohio State (BCS #2)
Rose: Oregon (Pac-10) vs. Boise St. (At Large)
Fiesta: Nebraska (Big 12) vs. UConn (Big East)
Orange: Virginia Tech (ACC) vs. Iowa (At Large)
Sugar: Florida (At Large) vs. Texas (At Large)
Heisman: Kellen Moore (Boise St.)
Schools No One Cares About: Michigan (7-5) and Notre Dame (8-4)
I did not want to, but the schedules compelled me to pick the chalk title game. It should come down to two road games for both teams. Alabama travels to Arkansas and LSU. Ohio State goes to Wisconsin and Iowa. Right now, I would not bet against those teams in any of the four games. Thus, they are in the title game. I like Alabama to win that. They run the ball and play defense better than anyone else. As an increasingly old-school Big Ten fan that attracts me.
The only other real upsets I have are Nebraska and UConn. I like Oklahoma on paper, but don’t trust Stoops. I think Texas is due for a down year, which for them is two losses and a BCS bowl bid. Nebraska’s defense carries them. UConn has a stretch where they go at Rutgers, at Louisville, home vs. West Virginia and home vs. Pittsburgh. If they can win 3/4 the Big East is theirs.
Kellen Moore wins the Heisman because too many people want Boise St. to succeed and they won’t make the title game after losing.

I assume CRM is picking the Buckeyes to win it all, y’know…since he rawks a sweet tOSU visor.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:50 PM
Heisman: Kellen Moore (Boise St.)
not happening.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:51 PM
I’ll take 8-4 this year, but I think it’ll be 9-3.

Do you think Bama and OSU finish the regular season undefeated? I have a hard time thinking they won’t stumble at least once this year.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:54 PM
Are you a red or white wine guy, Duffy? I’ll have something shipped in the next coming days. Maybe even some Omaha Steaks.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:55 PM

and we all know Twix is the only candy bar with the cookie crunch

Red, preferably Italian.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:55 PM
TG – I actually took the prop bet for the Devils to make a bowl game based strictly on your enthusiasm in the offseason. It was one of 50 $1 prop bets I made preseason just for shits and giggles.

THE RETURN OF MARK RICHT’S HOT SEAT!
I unfortunately could see the Notre Dame scenario playing out. At least they’ll still lose @USC.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:55 PM
who would replace him though?
wait, wait, I know this. Bee-bob told me…
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:56 PM
I have a feeling UDub is going to win the Pac this year. Pains me to say it because the Devils will probably finish 4th this year.

Notre Dame is interesting. Their schedule is super weak. If Kelly has them playing well, it’s not inconceivable they are 11-0 or 10-1 heading into the USC game.

So is Notre Dame going 8-4 or 10-2?
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:58 PM
Interchange Iowa with Wisconsin as the Big Ten At-Large team and I agree with those BCS picks (the first set, not the Notre Dame inclusion down below, gross)
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:58 PM
It’s just that CFB threads tend to get crazy and lengthy.
Oh, USC, not Oregon, will win the Pac 10 and go to the Rose Bowl.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:58 PM
ha! +1 Ruffino Riserva Ducale Oro for you, sir.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:59 PM
Hmmm, doubtful. I see USC’s season falling apart faster than Paris Hilton’s nasal cavity. And I will bathe myself in their fans tears.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:00 PM
Yes, yes it is. The first 6 games the play are all losable, I’m not saying they’ll be 0-6, but I am saying there is no chance they are 6-0.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:00 PM
I’ll bet you everything I have this doesn’t happen

Do you have a vending machine at your house or a recliner at the office?
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:00 PM
The schedule’s tough, but Renfree is the real deal at QB, and Duke has the best wide receiver corps in the ACC (yes, even better than Miami’s). I fully expect a bowl this year, period.
/also ‘Bama’s going down
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:00 PM
Here is my Kellen Moore theory. I don’t think anyone on Bama is going to win it. I think Terrell Pryor is overhyped. So, it would have to be another team in the BCS. I think the media consensus is going to gravitate toward awarding Boise St. for something, and he’s going to put up ridiculous numbers playing against the dregs of Division I.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:01 PM
You had me for the first half of this comment but lost me soon thereafter. I don’t think a 9-win season by ND is unreasonable at all considering their schedule.
USC can’t go to the Rose Bowl, can they?
The Pac-10 is a complete mess this year. No idea who I would take.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:01 PM

That’ll work.

September 2nd, 2010 at 1:01 PM
Moore is Ty Detmer 2.0. And Detmer won a Heisman, so you might be onto something.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:02 PM
I’m looking forward to the panic around here after they beat VT on Monday.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:03 PM
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:03 PM
USC can’t go to the Rose Bowl, can they?
nope.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:03 PM
Help us Oregon State, you’re our only hope
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:03 PM
Detmer put up ridiculously HUGE mind-boggling numbers though. Moore is more of an efficiency guy.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:03 PM
Regardless of what happens in that game, Tuesday morning should be fun.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:03 PM
I hope USC goes 11-1 just to spite the sanctions and the Pac-10 bid goes to an 8-4 team.
It’s seriously a toss-up dude. If either of us beats OSU, we’re going to a BCS game. You’ve got to win at Kinnick, too. Bielema’s tattoo will burn like Harry’s scar by kickoff.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:04 PM
The Celinto Catayente is quite a fine example. I highly recommend you take a gander for yourself.

I’m at work and I have a recliner in my office. My office is large and is used to for storage of extra things since we don’t have a ton of space. There’s also a dog bed, a 52″ Vizio and a really nice bookshelf I’d love to take home in here.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:05 PM
Eh, he only threw two more TD passes than Moore in his Heisman-winning season. Granted he threw for 5,000 yards in 12 games, but if Moore puts up 40 TD passes and surpasses 4,000 yards and Boise’s unbeaten…holy shit, that’s a lot of if’s…
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:05 PM
Holy fuck, I am getting giddy. Real football games tonight and then a 5 day weekend. Going to be a long day and half of stupid work.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:06 PM
It’s also not inconceivable that they are 6-5.

NU’s Big 10 Conference schedule in 2011:
@ Wisc
OSU
@ Minn
Mich St

@PSU

That’s brutal.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:08 PM
go bucks!!!
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:08 PM
For all of the chalk (OSU/Bama) going around everyone predictions I have absolutely no faith in either of those teams. Bama lost way too much on defense and the guys returning on offense arent that good. Pryor tends to have 2 or 3 smushsmortion games a year and they still dont have a RB.
It could be any combo of VT/UT/Mia/PSU/BSU/TCU/UGA/FLA, but no one has any balls.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:08 PM
Moore is 10/1 for the Heisman on Bodog. Pryor is 4/1. Mallet is 9/1. Dion Lewis is 15/1. I don’t think he’s a terrible betting option.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:08 PM
The Pac-10 is a complete mess this year. No idea who I would take.
Very wide-open and a little down. I wouldn’t count out Stanford. Everyone seems to be picking Washington as a sleeper…but they’re going to be mediocre. Locker is overrated.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:09 PM
windy and cold all alone out on that edge, isn’t it?
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:09 PM
Care to put some of those low seven figures on this?
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:09 PM
The homer in me can’t even put PSU on that list. I am very intrigued by TCU though, and think they have a more than reasonable shot to crash the BCS game.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:10 PM
the fuck are you talking about?
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:10 PM
This aint the B12 north anymore pal.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:10 PM
Dr. Tom – I’ve already decided that I’m going to Lincoln in 2011 for that game. It’ll be my road trip next season.
If you’re gonna throw PSU in there, you damn well better include Wisky or Iowa.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:10 PM
It could be any combo of VT/UT/Mia/PSU/BSU/TCU/UGA/FLA
that’s homeriffic. I’m glad it looks like Bolden, though
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:11 PM
Don’t have one bad thing to say about David Cutcliffe, other than the obvious. Hard not to root for a guy like him. Hate State much more than Dook in FB.

Does he still have the stache? Can’t see them giving the Heisman to a guy with a stache…
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:11 PM
My guess is Moore falls to 6:1 if he beats Vagina Tech
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:11 PM
Arm Punt doesnt count as a RB.
Roeth, they named Bolden yesterday and I’m already thinking 4-peat.
/delusional college fan
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:11 PM
The non-AQ team that nobody is talking about even though they have:
- A ton of returning starters
- A high preseason ranking
- A very manageable schedule
I think they’re the team snobs need to worry about more than Boise St.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:12 PM
the stache is why I picked him. He fucking better still have it.

September 2nd, 2010 at 1:13 PM
of what?
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:13 PM
first off, yes he does. he led OSU in rushing. second off, OSU is loaded at RB and goes four deep. third, how does a team with “no RB” go for 200 rushing yards in four straight games, one of which was against your precious nittany lions?
just a dumb comment all around, but not wholly unexpected from a jealous OSU, jr. fan.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:14 PM
Jones will put up big numbers at OU, but I’d be shocked if he gets the Heisman. If Boise loses to VT, Moore isn’t winning it, but a 12-0 season would definitely have him in the top 1-3. I assume Pryor will get it. He’ll be the top player on a top team, and he’ll have some sick running plays that ESPN will play on a loop over and over.

September 2nd, 2010 at 1:14 PM
I guarantee there is no less than 2 games the Buckeyes win in spite of Terrelle Pryor this year and not because of him. It’s entirely possible he doesn’t win the Heisman if they run the table.
He’s not Mike Vick and he’s not Troy Smith.

I think he could be better than both of them.
And believe me, as a PSU alum, nothing hurts worse than to acknowledge Pryor’s ability.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:16 PM
why do you compare a guy JUST entering his junior year (with no redshirt) to two guys who are finished products?

I agree, there is this Chilean chardonnay made by Anakena that really is my favorite chardonnay right now for it’s price is really good. I’m actually fan of most of their whites including the Anakena Ona White blend.
Also can’t disagree with Duffy’s predictions though i have Georgia Tech winning the ACC and West Virginia the Big East and Virgina Tech pulllng the out larger bid over Florida.. I think FL could lose 3 games this year. Also think USC goes 10-2 and wins the Pac-10 but obvious can’t go bowling
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:18 PM

when you have that much depth and a QB who’s your leading rusher, stats tend to get spread out.

I’m sorry dude, this is just false. Saine is 220 with track speed and great hands. Berry and Hall are the shifty, elusive backs and will be returning kickoffs. Boom is a rock solid veteran. Not too mention Carlos Hyde, a 230 lb load between the tackles runner from FL or Roderick Smith, who has been compared to Robert Smith and Eddie George.
Talent-wise, they all compare favorably with Evan “Big Game” Royster.

September 2nd, 2010 at 1:29 PM
I think the post was poorly put together (this has happened before when multiple writers are involved, only the Weekly Five gets it right)…TBL has Florida 8-4, whoever did the picks up top has them in the BCS

But here’s the thing about MSU fan: he knows they fucked up when they hired Dantonio instead of Brian Kelly when they could have had him easily while at CMU. BK takes their guy’s old team to the next level and goes on to get hired at ND, and now they are shitting their pants. MSU fan does not like this one bit.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:30 PM
I think the post was poorly put together (this has happened before when multiple writers are involved, only the Weekly Five gets it right)…TBL has Florida 8-4, whoever did the picks up top has them in the BCS
Thanks, Butters. That makes sense.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:30 PM
I think Dr. Tom nailed OSU’s RBs. They are a lot like Texas’. They look great, had big offers out of high school and fans are convinced their legit, but they’ve yet to prove they can actually play. Now, I assume the Sweater Vest will actually try to use them, as opposed to Texas the last few years, but OSU fans ripping SCs stupid absolutes should look in the mirror. You’re doing the same thing he is.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:31 PM
The arrogance in that article hurts my head.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:31 PM
more of an upgrade over Richt than Brent Venables would be.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:31 PM
And in 3 years has racked up 7 total TD’s and a whopping 4.5 YPC, ooooooo.
The rest of the guys you named I’ve never heard of. I stand corrected.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:31 PM
You know, I’d agree with that Tom. Here’s to hoping his junior year isn’t quite the epiphany that Vince had. Mack let Vince do his thing and mostly out of the gun. We’ll see if Vest loosens his conservative grip a little.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:32 PM
It is the 16th largest city in the United States.
And its a reference to Pryor’s reasoning behind deciding against PSU.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:32 PM
Rod is almost 6-4 (they listed him at 6-2 or 6-3 in HS) and 220ish pounds. He’s a damn beast.
Long strides, good speed, very strong, reads his blocks well, good hands, can tackle and even kick.
He’s a helluva athlete – basketball and track, too.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:32 PM
Hehe. Subway alumni. Tossers.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:32 PM
KC, TBL didn’t predict any bowls other than the title game. The UF BCS prediction was Duffy’s.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:32 PM
They got some little freshman change of pace back this year too, Something White, I think he’s replaced Zack Brown as #3 on the depth chart
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:32 PM
This is the 2nd or 3rd day in a row you’ve called Penn State “country”, like Columbus, OH is some vibrant metropolis.
I was actually shocked to learn that Columbus is the most populous city in Ohio
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:33 PM
You’ll be hearing about them for the next several years on the PA system at Beaver Stadium.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:33 PM
He was pissed they’d actually make him attend class and not pay him.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:34 PM
Wait, what does “Jason’s 2010 College Football Predictions” mean? Does it mean his picks are below the bold lettering?
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:34 PM
/also ‘Bama’s going down
Care you put something on this game, TG?
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:35 PM
I know nobody wants to hear this, but it’s OSU’s to lose this year. They are loaded, and if Pryor can just be serviceable their defense will win most of their games.
I think the SEC beats up on each other a little this year, so it will be a good time for one of the Big XII or ACC powers (*snicker*) to put together a nice season and make a run.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:36 PM
i also follow this guy on twitter – @j_rake
he got on a couple hot streaks last year. college kid who basically gambles 24/7
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:36 PM
He’s predicting Florida will go 1-3 OOC
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:36 PM
wait…I thought because “Jason’s 2010 College Football Predictions” was bolded, that all of the picks that were bolded were his, no? now I’m all confused. I’ll just click on this.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:36 PM
i liked the idea of hiring kelly, but I am fine with Dantonio, I still like the hire. I am not sure if all MSU fans feel this way, probably some if not a lot do. Dantonio is improving the team, regardless if we took a step back last year. we had a new QB, freshman running backs, and a depleted secondary. Now, if ND somehow destroys us in East Lansing, which won’t happen, but if they do, then i think you see MSU fans start chirping about missing out on Kelly.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:36 PM
I don’t think Tressel loosens up at all. I think if this team were preseason top 15 instead of top 2, he might. But I don’t see him gambling because I don’t believe he thinks he needs to, which has been his downfall the last 2 seasons (USC, Penn St.).
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:37 PM
Cliff Lee is the greatest pitcher in the league and it’s not even close. Stephen Strasburg is going to be awful, obviously. I guarantee there are at least 2 games that Ohio State wins in spite of their best player.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:37 PM
Hm. Never would have guessed that in a million years.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:37 PM
I’m gonna be in Vegas Saturday, Butters. Not sure if were going to the game as my crew doesn’t have a strong allegiance to Bucky. I sure as hell am excited for the weekend though. Madison in Vegas should be fun.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:38 PM
You should see the size of Austin. It’s rather surprising. Gotta be America’s biggest “college” town.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:38 PM
All of you Jags fans better get a good look at your QB for next year too, Heisman Trophy Winner Christian Ponder.
/Go Noles
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:39 PM
besides, i think most spartan fans were hoping for mooch.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:39 PM
You should see the size of Austin. It’s rather surprising. Gotta be America’s biggest “college” town.
It’s less surprising when you experience the rush hour traffic on 35 between Round Rock and south Austin. That traffic is a bitch.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:39 PM
Dont forget that Kelly has ties to all the Michigan high school coaches from his days at Grand Valley and CMU. He is a politician and a schmoozer and i think he could have taken over the state of Michigan, especially given the current state of UM.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:39 PM
Los Angeles?
/NFL burn
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:40 PM
I agree. The middle of the SEC got better from a year ago, but the top will dip down. I think 11-1 is the best an SEC can do, and if it happens, it’ll be Bama. I think Fla loses 2-3 games. OSU is clearly the best team in the Big 10, and they basically have three games to win: Miami, Iowa and Wisconsin. Penn State and Michigan are down and both ar in C-Bus, so those should be wins. Not givens, but wins nonetheless. OSU should be in the title game.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:40 PM
Good Heisman sleeper if he can win and perform well at Oklahoma in Week 2.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:40 PM
plus he has the chops and profile to recruit nationally.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:40 PM
35 is a nightmare everywhere. There was a wreck on 35 here yesterday that backed up traffic for a good five miles.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:40 PM
Cool. Here’s an interesting one from him, given earlier conversations:
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:40 PM
But Dantonio is already cut way into Michigan’s stranglehold on the state. He has also been able to grab guys out of Ohio that State has been able to do before.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:41 PM
I’m sorry my opinions affect you that much sportsdork. I also never said anything about Cam Heyward.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:41 PM
Fucker, I thought the trip was going to happen but my buddies slowly dropped out…my parents are out there which makes this sucks all the more that they get to enjoy the trip but not I
I’d bet UNLV and take the points…20.5 seems a little high for the first game
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:41 PM
I can’t think past Monday. I’m going to be a homer and pick my Hokies to beat Boise.
In other news, more purple drank madness

September 2nd, 2010 at 1:41 PM
You think they’ll be bad enough to be in a position to have to take the draft’s third QB?
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:41 PM
I think the SEC beats up on each other a little this year
meh… people say this every year.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:42 PM
No, I only bet on sure things, like Maryland getting its ass kicked in Cameron.
The only thing Duke has going into the Bama game is Bama’s young defense…Renfree and co will shred their secondary despite Saban’s genius. However, Duke can’t stop their running game, and it’s a defacto road game (Duke sold out their season tickets this year for the first time in a decade). Bama will win by 2 tds probably, but Duke will score some points. Wish I could go, but unless Earl cuts off Hwy 12, I’m working that weekend.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:42 PM
35 is a nightmare everywhere. There was a wreck on 35 here yesterday that backed up traffic for a good five miles.
What makes it worse as it goes by downtown Austin is that the area around it has become so built it–with places like UT and condos–that I don’t see how they can ever widen it. But I’m also not an engineer.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:42 PM
agree. That being said, the upset of the year happens in gainesville, and S&Fs will be there to witness it.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:42 PM
I think I saw he actually has the 4th best odds of winning it, according to Vegas. So he might not be that big of a sleeper.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:43 PM
Austin: 786,382
Columbus: 769,360
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:43 PM
They don’t offend me at all, SC. I guess I don’t understand why I’m not allowed to suggest you have umm… conviction, though.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:43 PM
I think 11-1 is the best an SEC can do, and if it happens, it’ll be Bama
@LSU should be the only chance for that one loss.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:43 PM
And then it doesn’t because the league’s not as deep as it’s perception would have people believe
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:44 PM
he’s way stronger and more powerful than those too are, and, i know this might shock you, but players don’t come out of some pre-specified mold according to historical precedent.
it’s what pryor said about PSU when he told them they weren’t good enough for him to bring his talents to happy valley.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:44 PM
I’m assuming he’s a 2nd rounder, and the locals will be restless once again when a big name local QB comes up.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:45 PM
I’d cut my jorts extra short just to help this cause.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:46 PM
Go Cocks?
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:46 PM
I think MSU is really going regret not getting BK, but I’m on the other side of the fence and obviously don’t follow that program as closely. I don’t think he would have stuck around for long if he was successful anyway, but he would have really elevated MSU to another level, especially with UM being down.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:46 PM

September 2nd, 2010 at 1:46 PM

September 2nd, 2010 at 1:47 PM
hernia…nope, going to the boss’ house to watch the game on his 118″ HD projection screen.
and OSU’s campus is always drunk.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:47 PM
True, but usually it applies to the mid-level teams and one team stands above it. I don’t think that works this year. Every team gets clipped in my opinion.
So is TBL just missing me comments where I tell him to back up his UGA stance with a bet? Surely that’s it.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:48 PM
That may have been a big reason they went at Dantonio. He has a conviction of wanting to be there for a long time. Kelly they figured would use them as a stepping stone like Saban did. This is a big year for Dantonio they have to not only improve in the regular season, but just making a bowl game isn’t good enough. Win it.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:48 PM
You that high on Luck?
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:48 PM
Heaping helpings of this.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:48 PM
Missy State. Homecoming for the Gates too. I’m summoning every bit of voodoo I’ve got to help the Bulldawgs’ cause.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:48 PM
Ok, but strength and power would be great if he were a defensive player or a o-line guy right? Wouldn’t you like to see accuracy and decision making be more of a prerogative?
He’s a hell of an athlete, I’ve more than admitted that before. But athleticism isn’t the only prerequisite to being a college quarterback unless you play at Georgia Tech.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:49 PM

September 2nd, 2010 at 1:50 PM
No, I only bet on sure things, like Maryland getting its ass kicked in Cameron.
2nd most wins at Duke in the last ten years to UNC.
Duke will not pass all over Saban’s boys. Bet on that sure thing.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:51 PM
That’s what I was thinking. Not sure where Luck will go. Lot riding on this season for him.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:51 PM
Quit being such a homer. Bama was much better last year than they’ll be this year and they easily could have lost to Auburn and Tenn, both of which were average (at best) last year. There will be a few chances for Bama to lost this year.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:51 PM
Luck probably won’t come out this year. Whatever NFL team falls for Mallet and/or Locker in the first round are in for years and years of pain at the QB position
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:52 PM
If I remember correctly OSU is on trimesters and not even back yet – could be wrong though.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:52 PM
Yeah that was my backhanded way of saying that Locker sucks.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:52 PM
Trying telling that to other people, got into a HUGE Debate over this topic at my weekly Ultimate Frisbee game. Perception is really greater then reality for a lot of people when it comes to sports.

September 2nd, 2010 at 1:52 PM
I owe you a beer, sir.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:53 PM
strength and power are great considering OSU’s offensive scheme this year.
they’re going to pound the ball and wear out defenses, just like the oregon rose bowl. run the shit out of the ball, dominate time of possession and pick up first downs (im sure you saw him do this quite a few times against iowa). THAT’S what pryor is going to be, not the second coming of VY.
i know the hype around him makes people want to see huge numbers, but that’s not what he is. it’s not about tebow-esque stats, it’s about just beating the other team down in a ball control offense.
frankly, the only thing about his passing i’d like to see improve is less interceptions. that’s it. i want a bunch of first downs, a dead tired opposing defense in the 4th quarter and a smattering of big plays. i said this in the SF preview, but all i want is a highly mobile trent dilfer…that’s fine in the college game and when you have a defense like OSU’s.
the goal isn’t to get pryor a heisman, it’s to win the NC. so frankly, as long as he doesn’t fuck shit up, whatever he does is cool.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:53 PM
I want a season long battle between him and Jacory Harris to one-up each other with new buzzed hair messages
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:54 PM
This guy has Luck 2nd of the QBs. Of course he has Prince Overrated over Aaron Williams, so he’s not completely reliable.
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:54 PM
Trying telling that to other people, got into a HUGE Debate over this topic at my weekly Ultimate Frisbee game. Perception is really greater then reality for a lot of people when it comes to sports.

Not really. My mom’s dad was career Army, and I grew up with a Beat Navy button hanging on the bulletin board in my room.
September 2nd, 2010 at 2:00 PM
Arkansas, Auburn and South Carolina? That’s what I’m talking about, three solid programs who are overvalued because they play in the SEC

September 2nd, 2010 at 2:02 PM
Clown: You really think Prince is overrated, or are you just being the Texas homer that you are? I think both he and Brown are really good. After Petersen at LSU, they are 2a and 2b in my opinion; though the kid at UVA with the funky name is supposed to be pretty good as well.
September 2nd, 2010 at 2:04 PM
ras-i dowling…NFL scouts don’t like him as a CB from what i’ve read. apparently he doesn’t have that good of technique.
September 2nd, 2010 at 2:05 PM
Ah, too bad. My dad used to take us to Navy games every once in a while when I was a kid (he was an Army guy himself, but a Navy brat from birth. Also a lifelong Notre Dame fan that played football for Free Shoes in the very ealry years of their program). I’m trying to recruit people, Harvey Milk-style to join my Ricky Dobbs Roger Staubach Memorial 2010 Heisman Trophy Campaign
September 2nd, 2010 at 2:05 PM
Well, it was certainly interesting last year, as the Cocks had the ball inside the Bama 25 in the 4th Qtr with a chance to tie. Then they turned it over, and Ingram sealed the deal with a one-man drive and their only offensive TD of the game. But it was def an interesting game.
September 2nd, 2010 at 2:06 PM
For being the 5-7th best programs (taking Tenn out of the convo bc they are terrible right now) you could put them up against any other league’s 5-7 and have them beat. Do you disagree?
September 2nd, 2010 at 2:06 PM
needed a couple of clocked field goals, homeslice. homefield is worth 3 points right? Vols FTW in 2010.

It would be historically poetic if Dobbs won it, and Nesbitt finished second.

I’d say they’re just about as good-to-mediocre as most other top leagues…are we allowed to submit that last year Northwestern was comparable to Auburn and nearly beat them in a bowl game?
All I’m saying is that the reason the league doesn’t “beat up on each other” is because the supposed depth doesn’t present as many problems as is expected (or rather no more trouble than the other powers see every year from unexpected foes)
But my apologies, shouldn’t have started another conference dick-measuring contest
September 2nd, 2010 at 2:12 PM
yeah…and that’s only because Britton Colquitt is gone. what’s your point?
September 2nd, 2010 at 2:13 PM
