Nike’s Combat Pro College Football Uniforms: An Aesthetic Assault
College Football, Jerseys September 9th. 2010, 6:30pm
Nike unveiled their new Combat Pro uniforms last weekend. The results were horrifying to all, except those on the payroll. The Horned Frogs looked horrifying. Virginia Tech and Boise St. were particularly egregious. We can live with the 1942 Ohio State tribute. The Oregon St. version seems classy. But, really, did you have to screw with Alabama? The lost post has returned from post purgatory!
I feel like I’m going to have see most of these in action before I judge them. And the Tech one isn’t as bad, honestly, as this abortion. Maroon and orange form a naturally terrible color scheme so moving away from that would be a smart decision by VT.

Eh, people bitch about anytime a uniform is changed. As hideous as they may be, there isn’t anything I can do about it, so I just file it in my, “Shit That Used to Bother Me but it Aint’t Worth the Attention” file in my brain.

I prefer to “rabble rabble rabble!” as much as possible.
Nike hasn’t done anything positive with football or basketball uniforms in 10 years.

TCU’s helmets look like cartoon gravel.

Like a futuristic XFL helmet.

TCU’s helmets look like cartoon gravel.
I read that Nike’s lead designer for them was a Mr. Slate.

Still haven’t figured out why Boise St wore practice unis. Their helmets were terds too.

What time is NBC on the air for this game?
September 9th, 2010 at 6:52 PM
1. has duffy always done the TBL “we?”
2. the OSU jerseys are an abomination
September 9th, 2010 at 6:54 PM
I didn’t think any of them were really all that bad.
September 9th, 2010 at 6:54 PM
If any of you feel I’ve pissed you off, blow me.
September 9th, 2010 at 6:55 PM
I didn’t think any of them were really all that bad.
Do you just say that because you know cool young kids like Selena Gomez and Debbie Ryan find them ‘neat’?

Fire up Chips!
September 9th, 2010 at 6:57 PM
I need to google this Debbie Ryan.

I thought those uni’s were awful. Completely out of control.
September 9th, 2010 at 6:58 PM
Jesus H. Christ. Hell no!
September 9th, 2010 at 6:59 PM
I do it occasionally in meaningless situations, just to manipulate an idiot commenter into nitpicking it.
September 9th, 2010 at 6:59 PM
I have a major issue with Virginia Tech’s unis in particular. Black isn’t one of their school colors, so why the shit should it be the dominant color on their uniform? Just awful.
September 9th, 2010 at 6:59 PM
Should be a good game. Who’s taking over for Levefever this year?

This, must be why you don’t work here anymore!

I actually enjoyed this

I am watching the local NBC. They mentioned an ESPN expert predicted the Texans will make the Super Bowl this year. Who was it?
September 9th, 2010 at 7:03 PM
Ryan Radcliff. Cannon for an arm, but not as swift a foot. He’s also really dumb
September 9th, 2010 at 7:04 PM
if the OSU ones have buckeye stickers on the helmet, they’ll be passable.
September 9th, 2010 at 7:06 PM
crowd at the temple game looks like shit.
September 9th, 2010 at 7:09 PM
I’m rooting for the Vikings
/the other commenter doing so
September 9th, 2010 at 7:09 PM
Mike Greenburg picked the 49ers to make the Super Bowl. I’m doomed.
September 9th, 2010 at 7:11 PM
That was a hell of a hold
September 9th, 2010 at 7:14 PM
CMU’s best athlete is white. I don’t think I’m allowed to comment on that cause I’m black, but uhh, it might be a long season
September 9th, 2010 at 7:50 PM
As a college football traditionalist, this makes me want to vomit.
September 9th, 2010 at 9:50 PM
The only thing worse than these uniforms is Nike’s site trying to explain them.
