Sean Payton Throws His Hat into the 2011 Hard Knocks Ring With This Quote About Brett Favre
1-liner, Favre, NFL September 9th. 2010, 1:30pmSaints vs. Vikings: Here’s what Saints’ coach Sean Payton told his defense about Brett Favre before last season’s NFC Championship game – “If you keep hitting him (on Sunday) he’ll make a mistake. If we keep putting pressure on him (Sunday night) he’ll start being careful, he’ll start doing anything he can to avoid getting hit and he’ll make a mistake. I promise you, if we hit him for four quarters, he’ll turn into that old man who’s scared of the rain.” They left Favre black and blue. Hopefully, the Saints will do the same tonight. [NOLA]

Totally agree, should be some good laughs if T-Jack has to play.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:32 PM
Football is back.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:33 PM
Pretty sure that only teams starving for attention do Hard Knocks. The Saints (especially Payton) seem to get enough attention and then some.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:34 PM
I really think this is the year Brett falls apart, the season hasnt even started and hes beat up. He knew his body couldnt take another year, but he let the vikings talk him into coming back anyway.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:34 PM
2011 Hard Knocks
Anybody, just get the Jets off my TV. I just watched the finale, and holy shit was that special teams coach bad. Not as bad as the GM, who was horrendous. I’m glad that show is over.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:34 PM
if you are in the CBS Pick em, dont forget to make your picks for Week 1 before the game tonight. thanks again to all that signed up
September 9th, 2010 at 1:34 PM
Turned out to be true.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:36 PM
I really think this is the year Brett falls apart,
is your newsletter about this, or brushing lips with d00ds? If it’s about Brett Favre’s career being over, I’d love to subscribe.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:36 PM
Fuck this guy.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:36 PM
but he let $20,000,000 talk him into coming back anyway.
Fixed for accuracy
September 9th, 2010 at 1:36 PM
If you live in the New York area.. u understand why the Jets needed somebody like Rex Ryan…
It’s a Giants town… the Jets needed a face, they got one, and now they matter and their fans (including me) are looking more forward to this season than any season I can remember..
The Mets need the same thing… oh, and winning more games wouldn’t hurt either
September 9th, 2010 at 1:37 PM
Oh, and go Vikings.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:38 PM
This
September 9th, 2010 at 1:39 PM
Oh, and go Vikings.
Saints winning tonight Sanders. Two Dat
September 9th, 2010 at 1:39 PM
Isn’t this, essentially, the game plan to get to all QBs?
September 9th, 2010 at 1:40 PM
As for this subject at hand, I’m sick of Payton…
Quality coach, but anyone with inside sources into that organization confirms he’s a pretty rotten guy.
Not “rotten” as in self-absorbed or condescending or flawed… ROTTEN…
September 9th, 2010 at 1:40 PM
with Favre playing tonight, we all win…
September 9th, 2010 at 1:40 PM
Isn’t this, essentially, the game plan to get to all QBs?
no, for instance, you want Sanchez to throw it.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:41 PM
America, fuck yeah.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:41 PM
tannenbaum is straight up awful.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:41 PM
That’s what I was thinking. Payton is not coming up with a ground breaking theory there.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:41 PM
so clay, you finally received a warning shot as well?
September 9th, 2010 at 1:42 PM
Pretty much. The Cowboys hit Brees all sorts of times and he made lots of mistakes.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:42 PM
Haha, the only people rooting for the Vikings are Vikings fans and bsanders.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:42 PM
And as for the game…… just want New Orlenas to kick field goals, Winfield to make tackles, and Peterson not to have a monster game…
/fantasy’d
September 9th, 2010 at 1:43 PM
I like Sean Payton a little bit more after this quote. Still seems like a bit of a douche, although most big time fb coaches have that personality trait. So whatever, fuck Favre.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:43 PM
Go Saints.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:43 PM
nothing against this game, but I am going to be paying more attention to Miss St vs Auburn
September 9th, 2010 at 1:43 PM
so clay, you finally received a warning shot as well?
i’m no longer a “friend of TBL” it turns out. I’ve known it for months, he just finally announced it to everybody else.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:43 PM
i wouldn’t take this quote all that seriously…payton was probably high off his ass on pain pills to know what he’s saying.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:45 PM
I love how this turned into a bash the Jets post really quickly. Soon To Be Champs start the season Monday.
A field the Cowboys have a doctorate in.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:45 PM
This to This.
First link is not safe for the queasy.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:45 PM
Clay, is it the links?
It seems like everything gets back to the links.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:45 PM
i’m no longer a “friend of TBL” it turns out. I’ve known it for months, he just finally announced it to everybody else
Never should have advised the elimination of Paolo. Comments have slowed to a trickle.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:46 PM
Link? Or joke?

September 9th, 2010 at 1:46 PM
I think the Vikings win the Superbowl. There, I said it.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:46 PM
What did I miss?
I don’t dislike the Saints. Just Sean Payton’s arrogance and the sports media’s insistence on telling us that the Saints rebuilt New Orleans by winning football games.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:46 PM
I like that it’s the special teams coach who is playing the role of “biggest dick.”
The Jets were trying way too hard to be cool and entertaining. I hope they get a team that won’t yuck it up for the TV. That being said I enjoyed Ochocinco on last year’s season.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:46 PM
Good.
FWIW, Favre’s not throwing 46 times again. And he’s not going to be taking many 7 step drops. It’s funny, it’s like nobody remembers before the season last year when everyone said, “Favre won’t have to do much, just steer the ship, their team around him is good enough.” Now suddenly if he doesn’t throw 40+ times for 350 yards the Vikings are screwed.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:46 PM
Love the new avatar Jersey. Can’t wait to derail the unprobable UM hype train Saturday.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:47 PM
Whatever happened to this?
September 9th, 2010 at 1:47 PM
and the sports media’s insistence on telling us that the Saints rebuilt New Orleans by winning football games.
Popeye’s is reopened.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:47 PM
This season of Hard Knocks was definitely the best I’ve seen. I only saw bits and pieces of the Chiefs and never saw the original on the Ravens, though. Highly entertaining despite it being about a team getting too much pub.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:48 PM
what happened dirt? link?
I don’t know where it was, but he called me out in front of everybody last week. I considered slinking away in shame, but I’ve got no place else to go.
I’m surprised I didnt’ catch more flack about it, honestly.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:48 PM
You knock that off!
September 9th, 2010 at 1:49 PM
Yeah, as if ND isn’t getting hyped by everyone. Keep playing the victim.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:49 PM
Can we have them retire the “Play Like a Jet” mantra? It rings a little hollow.

If you were an annoying douche or someone who pretends to know a lot about sports, but doesn’t, then you’d deserve shit.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:50 PM
Thanks. It’s not new though. Just remixed from last season. I want to being the Rich Rod unemployment application Saturday.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:50 PM
Can we have them retire the “Play Like a Jet” mantra? It rings a little hollow.
what’s funny is that it still means what it always meant, and not what they wish it meant. Joe McKnight was truly playing like a Jet.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:51 PM
Picked the Saints last year.
/has nothing to do with anything
September 9th, 2010 at 1:51 PM
Killing time here sure beats working, though.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:51 PM
I swear to god he writes shit like this just to be extra annoying.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:51 PM
Goodell did what he does, which is to say he waited around to see what kind of media reaction there would be. When there wasnt any he acted like nothing happened. Justice.

don’t need to deserve shit to get it, lawya.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:52 PM
Yeah, but… but… we’re ND. Everyone wants them to be good. Everyone wants Michigan to go diaf.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:53 PM
What hype train? This is a team fighting for a bowl game with a coach fighting for his job. Many people were saying Michigan was going to get owned by UConn. There is no hype for this team.

September 9th, 2010 at 1:53 PM
What was your favorite part? Edwards shopping and noticing a gray hair in his beard? Or Jason Taylor getting lost and being late? The drama!!!
They did a better job in the last episode of focusing on the marginal players. Thought they did a better job in this respect with the Bengals last year. Jets Hard Knocks needed more Bart Scott too.
/Liked it, but it wasn’t great.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:53 PM
Well, I guess that means that Clay isn’t on the 3-man comment-evaluation team for football season.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:53 PM
When will someone photoshop Chad Johnson and TO in the Batmobile running into Tom Brady’s car? Anyone?
September 9th, 2010 at 1:54 PM
I think most CFB fans would be happy if Michigan and Notre Dame happened to DIAF.

September 9th, 2010 at 1:55 PM
I think catching flack comes with the territory. But some idiot commenters have earned it moreso than others. I’d like to think Clay isn’t one of commenters. (bromes, paulo, illiniman, etc.) *Cough*…SC.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:55 PM
meh…i don’t wish for a ND to DIAF but MAChigan on the other hand? yea…they should DIAF.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:55 PM
I just dont get how Michigan is ranked higher
September 9th, 2010 at 1:56 PM
Rex Ryan.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:56 PM
This is really true. He even did that with Roethlisberger. Waited it out, media seemed to be fine with reducing it…4 games it is.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:56 PM
pretty sure hes kidding. if not, news to me
September 9th, 2010 at 1:56 PM
You serious? Did you not see ESPN going crazy over Denard Robinson? I’m not saying it wasn’t deserved, but UM is definitely getting more attention because of the win last week. I just hope ND kicks UM’s dick in the dirt, that’s all.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:56 PM

I didn’t know this. But if it isn’t top 25, it doesn’t really matter in Week 2.
Hatred scale:
ND > OSU
Although it’s near equal now that Charlie Cheeseburger and the Emu are gone, and I have to put up with spencer’s daily shit-talk.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:58 PM
pretty sure hes kidding. if not, news to me
you said it. How am I kidding if you said it? It’s not a big deal, it just puts me back into the crowd that’s no longer ultra anxious to see the banhammer dangle.

That’s my postgame plan. Maybe a little Nikita, too.
September 9th, 2010 at 1:59 PM
I think most CFB fans would be happy if Michigan and Notre Dame happened to DIAF
Let’s go back to the movies for this one: “Kill you? I don’t want to kill you, you’re just too much fun. You… complete me!” I love Michigan and Notre Dame as long as they’re not doing particularly well. Also, I thought the “UM hype train” was referencing Miami.

September 9th, 2010 at 2:01 PM
I was kind of pissed they flat out ignore the Jets cutting Tony Richardson for a day and it (allegedly) pissing off the players. I would have liked to seen those discussions.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:01 PM
Hard Knocks was okay, nothing special, liked the Bengals one last year a lot more since it didn’t seem like they were trying so hard…wonder how many takes they needed with Rex getting upset at Revis’ agents over the phone before they got the one they wanted
September 9th, 2010 at 2:02 PM
Laugh now, cry in two days, Spencer!
September 9th, 2010 at 2:02 PM

//not really though, Sundays are for football
September 9th, 2010 at 2:04 PM

September 9th, 2010 at 2:04 PM
I was kind of pissed they flat out ignore the Jets cutting Tony Richardson for a day and it (allegedly) pissing off the players. I would have liked to seen those discussions.
that’s exactly what I wanted to see. I also wanted to see them meet with the defensive end from Dallas they signed sight unseen and tell them he was already higher on the depth chart than Vernon Gholston.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:06 PM
yeah they had to get those Taco Bell plugs in!!
September 9th, 2010 at 2:08 PM
Gotta pay for that Revis contract somehow.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:08 PM
yeah they had to get those Taco Bell plugs in!!
the best part was how there was no mention of how badly they caved on the Revis deal. The 32 million guaranteed is all over the next two years, and then that asshole is free to hold out again if he wants.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:09 PM
I still can’t get over the fact that Rex Ryan ended his Speech of the Year with “Let’s got eat some snacks!!”.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:10 PM
oh, and I don’t care that they caved, doesn’t bother me at all. I knew they were going to cave. What sucks is that they got some of that $$$ by shitting on Richardson, by playing chicken with the lousy Kellen Clemens, and by making sure not to guarantee Ferguson and Manggold’s contracts against career ending injuries.
I think the organization comes out of this looking worse than going in.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:10 PM
tannenbaum went on mike and mike and said they had language in there that prohibited a future holdout…did tannenbaum lie or is he just grossly incompetent?
September 9th, 2010 at 2:13 PM
I want his job. I want his job really bad.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:14 PM
I don’t think you need the word “or”
September 9th, 2010 at 2:15 PM
Yes.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:17 PM
that prohibited a future holdout…did tannenbaum lie or is he just grossly incompetent?
I dont’ know, but I’m sure the last contract also prohibited a holdout. It’s not like you can actually prohibit a holdout that I know of.
Do you think they made him pay the fines he incurred for this holdout?
September 9th, 2010 at 2:19 PM
HELL no, they didn’t make him pay the fines.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:20 PM
So here’s the best details I can find. The specific part that’s relevant is that if Revis does not hold out, the last 3 years of the deal are voided. If he does hold out, I guess they aren’t. But they did away with this deal no problem.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:27 PM
Prediction for the first eight Vikings offensive plays tonight:
Play 1-Peterson left
Play 2-Peterson right
Play 3-Camarillo reception over the middle
Play 4-Peterson left
Play 5-Peterson right
play 6-Harvin reception over the middle
Play 7-Peterson right
play 8-Shaincoe reception over the middle for TD
