Troy Polamalu Times the Snap Perfectly, Flies Over the Line to Sack Kerry Collins
NFL, Video September 20th. 2010, 12:00pmThrough two games, no defense has been more impressive than the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are tied for the league lead with four interceptions and forced fumbles with five, and have bottled up two of the league’s best running backs (Michael Turner 42 yards, Chris Johnson 34 yards). They’re 2-0 without their offensive MVP, Ben Roethlisberger. A healthy Troy Polamalu has helped.

Superman dat ho!
/gotta be the hair
September 20th, 2010 at 12:02 PM
Apparently you can’t coach timing.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:06 PM
Polamalu is awesome. Not sure if this is better than baiting Matt Ryan into that throw last week. They’re both fantastic.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:06 PM
TBL is this it? Post it up already!
September 20th, 2010 at 12:07 PM
Feel like this has to be linked in a Polamalu thread.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:08 PM
/both true

Not as good as that Rock Bottom McClain laid on that Rams receiver. I was waiting for the People’s Elbow after that tackle.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:10 PM
This Steeler Defense is starting to look scary good, if they keep playing at this level or close to it, it’s going to be 2008 all over again
/week 2 overreaction

just brutal hijinks

Like Jimmy Snuka off the top rope
/smooth like buttah
September 20th, 2010 at 12:14 PM
I love how unimpressed the rest of the team seems by that play. Scary.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:14 PM
Two words, Super Bowl.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:15 PM
The question is, why hasn’t that been tried before? The worst thing that could happen by jumping too soon is offsides and a 6-inch penalty. This has got to catch on.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:15 PM
Two words, Super Bowl.
hard to argue.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:16 PM
Two words, Super Bowl.
I bet it was. u must have that good good.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:17 PM
That was a sick, sick play. I love watching that dude play football.
Fixed.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:17 PM
If you jump the line and smash the QB before the ball is snapped, given the way they protect their pretty boys, I could see an unsportsmanlike conduct or unneccesary roughness penalty.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:18 PM
Well, at least you’re keeping the first two weeks in perspective.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:19 PM
Still only a 1 foot penalty.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:19 PM
Holy shit, Kerry Collins still plays in the NFL.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:19 PM
Doesn’t a personal foul give the other team a new set of downs?
September 20th, 2010 at 12:20 PM
Agreed, Steelers look nasty….. they are a legitimately good to very good quarterback away from being the best team in football
It’s pretty crazy that Big Ben might have 3 rings pretty soon
September 20th, 2010 at 12:20 PM
The question is, why hasn’t that been tried before?
If it becomes expected you might see more of this.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:21 PM
So you only try it on first down.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:21 PM
Can’t stand Polamalu because he’s a freakin’ Steeler, but that was a badass play.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:21 PM
Yes – Troy’s play was on 1st down though.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:21 PM
I’d figure he’d have a career as William Fitchner’s body double, but Prison Break isn’t on anymore.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:24 PM
Other than offensive holding in the end zone, there’s not another penalty that results in one team getting points is there?
September 20th, 2010 at 12:25 PM
Int. grounding in the end zone is also a safety, I believe.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:26 PM
I think that is correct – I’m sure the Lions have done that this decade.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:26 PM
I think any offensive penalty that occurs in the end zone is a safety is it not? Cut blocks, tripping, etc…
September 20th, 2010 at 12:28 PM
They’ve done this.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:28 PM
Is it racist 2 Af-American QBs were pulled yesterday?
Any o penalty occuring in the endzone results in 2 pts.(85% sure)
September 20th, 2010 at 12:29 PM
Was trying to find that video too. Unfortunately, the Lions QB that was coming to mind was Mike McMahon. Well done, sir. That play made me laugh for a long time.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:30 PM
False start, illegal shift and pre-snap penalties are, but holding and int. grounding both are. I think it has to be a penalty that occurs in the end zone, more or less.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:30 PM
I hate that Antonio Brown is a Steeler. And to think they got him in the 6th rd. A much better team like Detroit or Cincinnati had many an opportunity to pick him up, I know he’s gonna make the Bengals pay for years.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:30 PM
Fixed for Mondays.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:31 PM
How did Suh look for Detroit yesterday? I didn’t see any highlights of the game or anything.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:31 PM
Is it racist 2 Af-American QBs were pulled yesterday?
Not when they combine for 7 turnovers.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:31 PM
Its been done.
LaVar
September 20th, 2010 at 12:32 PM
I only ask because there’s no way they award a touchdown to an offense on any defensive penalty, is there? I’d almost be in favor of it on PI during goal to goal situations if it’s clear a corner gets beat and just tackles a guy that has an open catch. Hard to just give a team 6 points, though.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:32 PM
Mike McMahon was garbage – but he was at least exciting to watch. Dan Orlvosky was just horrible, I still don’t see how he just ran out of the endzone.
/Worst part of that play is Jared Allen celebrating like he just won the super bowl.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:32 PM
The LaVar Leap is still the best.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:33 PM
Oh Christ… Cowherd is doing his show from Iowa City tomorrow. He’s gotta be writing a “Iowa is a Fraud!” screed tonight at some point. I think SportsNation is being done from there, too.

What makes it worse is that McCown might have torn an MCL.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:33 PM
He looked like a beast – but he has to cut down on stupid penalties. He got flagged for rag dolling Vick to the turf while holding his facemask.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:34 PM
I was surprised to took that long for someone to post, Celtic.

September 20th, 2010 at 12:35 PM
Good to hear.
Because they are. We told you this all summer, yet you wouldn’t listen. They got torched by Nick Foles for crying out loud. If they don’t play lock-down defense, they’ll lose at least 2 more games, if not three.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:35 PM
I already posted Troy’s play and made a Lavar reference in an earlier post.
/glad I didn’t disappoint
September 20th, 2010 at 12:37 PM
You’re better than this… or at least smarter than this. Defense has nothing to do with it outside of the final AZ drive. Special teams and lack of running game (so, offensive line) was the downfall of the Hawkeyes on Saturday.
At least you didn’t blame Stanzi, though.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:38 PM
Won’t be against PSU – they aren’t good at all right now.
/take Temple and the 17

Steelers are 2-0, Browns are 0-2. Yep, it’s officially football season.
