I dunno about all that. Though he did look great in the U18 FIBA games
October 1st, 2010 at 8:46 AM
Great round up pic. Love Bilson and Taylor.
I am sickened by myself that I am rooting for a kid too tear an ACL or blow out his knee during his senior year of HS.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:46 AM
well, here’s a random list …
needs more AIDS.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:47 AM
Big this
And I love Rachel Bilson, but not her best pic. Taylor Swift never looks good to me.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:47 AM
anyone hear the new Boise State Fight Song?
October 1st, 2010 at 8:47 AM
Kinda surprised Bartlett Starr was only in the 50′s. After all, he has more of those shiny things than anybody.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:48 AM
Happy October 1, folks. Best month in sports.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:48 AM
Taylor Swift still looks like a gelfling and that still is not a terribly bad thinng.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:48 AM
Allison Brie is pretty much perfect. I read her NErve.com essay a few weeks ago and she is a decent writer as well.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:48 AM
well this is..um interesting?
October 1st, 2010 at 8:48 AM

October 1st, 2010 at 8:48 AM

October 1st, 2010 at 8:49 AM
If the WS goes the distance it will go into Nov.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:50 AM
Please stick the WNBA on there so I will never have to watch it.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:51 AM
Let me edit that. So I will never turn to ESPN or ESPN2 and see 1 second of a WNBA game.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:51 AM
This certainly qualifies as one of the worst movie lines ever.
You had me at hello.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:51 AM
is Tammie Sue Benson-Whitehead trying to disguise herself by impersonating a male sex offender?
October 1st, 2010 at 8:51 AM
I thought they adjusted the schedule so that wouldn’t happen? or does that start next year?
October 1st, 2010 at 8:52 AM
Hell yes.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:53 AM
Next year. If the Twins put on the big boy pants and start winning games, it could be mighty chilly sitting out at Target Field watching games.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:53 AM
I’m at a loss for words.
Great roundup, TBL… shit load of stuff today.

October 1st, 2010 at 8:53 AM
I don’t understand the Taylor Swift thing. She is a stick with no curves. Her face is defined by the type of makeup she wears daily because it also looks dull and boring.
She does seem to have a great personality and some intelligence, so she’s got that going for her. Being a “good” girl isn’t a bad thing either. She just isn’t strikingly beautiful in any sort of way.
I don’t even notice her in that pic with Bilson because she is just plain…
October 1st, 2010 at 8:54 AM
75-person brawl at 3-year old party: Cincinnati – They don’t call in Northern Kentucky for no reason!
Alvin Gentry has skills: You could tell that was a PUUUUUUUUUUURE stroke in the day. Then he goes fingers up “Larry Bird!” Fantastic!
Took my son to his first MLB game on WED and I snared him a foul ball! Dad WIN! Little fella made it a complete game too. In fairness he did muscle down some food to keep him content.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:54 AM
Games 5, 6, 7 all in Nov. Sparty, must be next year if they are changing it.

What is with chicks trying to document getting their freak on these days?
October 1st, 2010 at 8:56 AM
don’t forget her awful, awful music.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:56 AM
Excuse me because I’m sure I’m duckworthing the hell out of this, but Lebron things race plays a role in the media’s coverage of his summer escapades? Give me a fucking break. Even if he thinks that, he should just keep it to himself because it makes him sound like a fucking moron. Some one needs to tell him to shut the fuck up.

October 1st, 2010 at 8:58 AM
Biggest chokers in sports history? Not the newspaper before you freak out.
I don’t get the second sentence here. But I was pretty sure the answer was the All Blacks, since it’s in a New Zealand newspaper. Very obvious answer.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:58 AM
Jesse Jackson agrees with him.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:59 AM
If you are intelligent this should not be a surprise. There are numerous real world examples of this. banning guns doesn’t make them unavailable just unavailable to the law abiding citizens. But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised given some of the stances this blog takes on issues.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:59 AM
I’ve been saying this for a long time. Great basketball player but you can tell he’s a dumb ass every time he opens his mouth.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:59 AM
I find this fucking insulting.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:59 AM
can’t see the video, and the link is blocked at work, but i’d like to nominate Bill Pullman’s speech from independence day.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:00 AM
It’s not her, it’s you. Not that she has good music or anything, but the game has been fucked since the late 80′s, early 90′s with the video thing where looks are more important than the music.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:01 AM
That is THE BOMB! Nice work on the complete game. My daughter and I made it 7 innings earlier this year. It was all about eating through the park. But, now anytime she sees baseball on TV, she brings up going to another game. SCORE!
October 1st, 2010 at 9:01 AM
Going to have to agree, as I type this from a tree stand on the first day of bow hunting season.
I don’t know if this would even be newsworthy down by you, but this is a good story of a guy who obsessed on a buck all summer and smoked it in the first days of cross-bow season. As a non-hunter I found it a great read.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:01 AM
I think he meant note instead of not.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:02 AM
When does ESPN’S contract with poker run out? I’m sick of seeing poker on there all day every day. pretty sure the fad of watching poker on tv is over with.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:02 AM
Excuse me because I’m sure I’m duckworthing the hell out of this, but Lebron things race plays a role in the media’s coverage of his summer escapades? Give me a fucking break. Even if he thinks that, he should just keep it to himself because it makes him sound like a fucking moron. Some one needs to tell him to shut the fuck up.
It just became Darrell time. I had this exact same argument with him about the master/slave relationship with James and the Cavs owner, and 2 weeks ago about the most hated people in sports, who were all black people. At some point, the perspective of black people is different than white people, although I think James is exploiting his his fall from grace as victimization based on his race.
that may be a run-on sentence.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:02 AM

October 1st, 2010 at 9:03 AM
That Rachel Bilson is hawwwwtttttt. I’m in love.

October 1st, 2010 at 9:03 AM

that makes more sense. The All Blacks have been the #1 seed in every single Rugby World Cup, but haven’t won since the inaugural one in 1987. They have literally gagged on the biggest stage every chance they had for 24 years.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:04 AM
No, but you could toss that first comma out.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:05 AM
How have their ratings been? And what do the sponsors give them for broadcasting it? That’ll give you a good answer. And even if they are low, what would they replace that two hours on Tuesday nights with? More E:60?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:05 AM
Thanks Wally. Also, after a few year’s absence I am going tomorrow to the BG Homecoming to get drunk and (re)live some questionable decision making, and realize how old I’ve become in a very short amount of time.
For me the toughest thing about MLB is the game times as my son naps during the 1pm start times. The 4pm make-up game was perfect.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:06 AM
you’re in the minority.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:06 AM
Yeah. The beauty of an iPhone! I’ve gun hunted for a while now, this is my first year to bow hunt. Haven’t seen anything yet, but just being out here is enough for me.

October 1st, 2010 at 9:07 AM
re: ESPNW
I was discussing this last night on Twittter and I think the rush to judgment before it launches is irresponsible. Once we see its content and framing then we can assess it. However, let’s not look past what it is. A business decision before it’s an equal access decision. ESPNU for television is no different. It’s carving out a niche to gain a unique audience and the ability to acquire advertising dollars and opportunities for a targeted audience. Equal access and better portrayal as a business and company is a slice of the pie.
It’s just like ESPN Chicago. Boston etc. Market share. Gender will draw more scrutiny than geography is all.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:07 AM
No, but you could toss that first comma out.
you’re not my dad.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:07 AM
That Rachel Bilson is hawwwwtttttt. I’m in love.
The shoulder strap quasi-carelessly over her shoulder is appropriately slutty and terrific. This needs to become a trend.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:07 AM
Speaking of Cincinnati sucking, anyone else see that five people called in to the state health department to complain about the Reds smoking victory cigars in the clubhouse. God I hate this state.

October 1st, 2010 at 9:09 AM

October 1st, 2010 at 9:09 AM
Still not a Bilson fan but I understand if people like her. I think she is using the law of comparison standing next Swift to it’s full extent.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:09 AM
i don’t think kentucky wants it.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:09 AM
Hahahaaaaaaaaaa… are they really THAT stupid? They’re that eager to talk down to part of their audience?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:10 AM
The 2004 Yankees have to be ecstatic about their place on that “chokers” list. Asafa Powell seems a bit high, as does Scott Norwood, who gets all kinds of unwarranted shit. Hadn’t made a FG that long on grass in ages and people expect him to on the biggest stage, to win the game? Jeez, you’d have thought Jim Caldwell was his coach. More blame should fall on the Bills’ punt returner, who fielded that bitch on like his own 12 when it would’ve bounced through the end zone.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:10 AM
Memphis hoops coach Josh Pastner is recruiting a kid who … is also considering Harvard?
good read. Tommy Amacker is doing a good job at Harvard. doesnt hurt that one of their selling points is a degree from there. but you rarely see a talent like that go to Ivy League. he is no Jeremy Lin. could be one and done
October 1st, 2010 at 9:10 AM
Any reference to the All-Blacks must, absolutely must, like federally is required, to involve THIS.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:10 AM
my bad TBL, I misjudged you.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:10 AM
There are also real world examples that contradict this. Toronto is roughly the same size as Chicago and it’s very, very difficult to find and/or purchase guns legitimately. By the logic above, crime should be running out of control. Instead, we see relatively low levels of violent crime (only 17 murders by shooting so far this year). Care to explain this to me?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:10 AM
come on, SC. it’s TBL on the internets, what else are we supposed to do?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:10 AM
i don’t think kentucky wants it.
okay the hyperbole has gone too far.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:11 AM
Their attempt to generalize all women is awful. Look, some women like sports, and some don’t. You dont see Lifetime creating Lifetime for Men movies.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:11 AM
yea, but buck shelford is a badass.
Tana Umaga is one of the baddest mf’ers to ever walk the earth. (warning, that link contains a haka, and it may blow your mind) He was hurt during the 2003 WC, and had retired by the 2007 world cup. They field an incredible team, and just dominate 3 Nations and when the Europeans will consent to play them, 6 Nations.
All Blacks are my favorite rugby team, but they always gag it. Next summer, Rugby World Cup. Hopefully, more games will get televised.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:11 AM
Which state? Kentucky? That is where Cincinnati belongs. They certainly aren’t wanted by the rest of Ohio.
And the fact that State Health Dept passed it on to Cincy’s Health Dept to investigate is gross too. None of the 5 people that called in identified themselves either.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:12 AM
no, kentucky just spills over into it every day, shits all over the city and just leaves.
i think it’s BS to call cincy part of ohio. if they want to do that, they really need a giant electric fence to keep kentuckians out or just give it to them cincy if they like it so much.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:12 AM
They’ve really shown how stupid they’ve been in building up their brand, haven’t they? How would they be talking down to women as opposed to catering to them?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:12 AM
Only way race factors into the Lebron coverage is that if he was white he would suck at basketball and there would be no coverage. So yeah, I guess his race does play a role.

I think you’re taking this the wrong way CJ. This is going to give women greater agency in the world of sports. There will be more employment opportunities and access for women to write. It doesn’t mean they have to write from a flowery perspective.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:15 AM
A guy here burned a bunch of pictures in front of his apartment awhile back. Caught buildings on fire and ended up burning the whole place down and killed 3 people. I’d just moved from that particular building to a place across the street at the time a couple months prior. Came home from the bar to see half the block in flames.

October 1st, 2010 at 9:21 AM
Perhaps not. It will draw in different users than ESPN does though. Again, look at it from an advertisers perspective. Why wouldn’t I take the opportunity to pitch my products and services to a targeted audience instead of casting a wider net to a hodge podge of everyone? This is a brilliant business opportunity.
The equal access is secondary like I said.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:22 AM
Your hatred for Scott Pilgrim is perhaps only surpassed by my own contempt for Transformers 1, 2 and the upcoming 3.

I don’t think anyone here said that DC would be perfect without it. It was stated that DC had harsh laws against gun buying, but those laws are moot since a person can travel less than 15 minutes in any direction to buy one.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:24 AM
Still convinced this bombed because they changed the title from Synergy. Also convinced FX using Terriers as the title of their new show will be the reason its being co-produced by DirecTV a la Damages next year.

Great movie.

Ian Poulter is a faygo.
/personal attack
October 1st, 2010 at 9:25 AM
EXACTLY. Reminds me of a display I saw at a store for “Video Games for Girls”. It was bright pink and only had simple frilly games. Mother fucking we are in the 21st century here, can we get past the need to genderize toys and interests?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:26 AM
They should throw in sports shows where the women talk about shoe shopping and ways to make bikini waxing less painful!
/I want to punch Laura Gentile in the face.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:26 AM
That just shows that the insulting thought process isn’t from ESPN’s perspective, but instead from you and CJ. Say what you want in comparing women’s sports to it’s men equivalent, but the way women compete in these games isn’t soft, light, or fluffy, therefore there would be no reason to expect the coverage of the games to be that way.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:26 AM
Very, very sloppy game on both sides. A&M thoroughly dominated the 1st half. OK State has a nice offense, especially when the momentum starts rolling and they snap the ball every 18-20 seconds. But, their defense is a sieve.
In all, entertaining game last night. Not well played. Both teams will have at least 3 losses by the end of the year…
October 1st, 2010 at 9:26 AM
Refuse to believe this. It’s not about distance necessarily, it’s about being able to control your accuracy for a certain distance. For instance, Matt Stover can kick a ball 50 yards, but he hasn’t been able to control where that ball goes for 50 yards in quite some time. It’s like a golfer who still has good distance off the tee, but lost his ability to hit fairways for distance a good amount of time ago.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:27 AM
I don’t think anyone here said that DC would be perfect without it. It was stated that DC had harsh laws against gun buying, but those laws are moot since a person can travel less than 15 minutes in any direction to buy one.
wally, that guy’s vitriol was rhetorical. You were supposed to read between the lines to get his full meaning.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:27 AM
Wow. The ladies here are bashing an opportunity for women. I’m stepping away from this before it gets out of hand.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:28 AM
Ian Poulter is a faygo.
His wife was clearly the ugliest wife-girlfriend (clearly not a WAG) from what I saw. I did see him humiliate a loudmouth drunk live at Firestone this year with an insane iron shot.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:28 AM
LOL.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:28 AM
It appears they are both typical Big XII spread offense teams. Capabale of putting up lots of points but quick to make mistakes and if they face a team with a stout defense they will crumple. Jerrod Johnson threw a few big time ducks.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:28 AM

October 1st, 2010 at 9:29 AM
Hey caveman… ESPNW is going to show men’s sports, moron.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:29 AM
This wasn’t the barefoot Rich Karlis having the shortest missed field goal in Super Bowl history (23 yards). Now that’s a choke.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:29 AM
beyond shitty. clusterfuck, dumpster fire, etc
October 1st, 2010 at 9:29 AM
High five Darrell. We don’t get to agree a lot so I’m with you on this one.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:29 AM
This. That was no choke. Mislabeled for over 20 years. In that situation, on grass, the success rate is probably about 50% or so. Norwood hit it very well. It just slid outside the bar.
A choke would be the type of ball that Vanderjagt shanked against the Steelers. He siezed up, mishit it, and lives in infamy as the biggest Douchecanoe kicker in NFL history.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:30 AM
Actually the All Blacks don’t play in the 6 Nations comp. They do play Eng, Ire, Fra, Scot, Wales and Italy but on tour, not as part of the 6 Nations.
But none of that matters, as the Wallabies will in NZ in 2011.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:30 AM
Really, I”M the one making up the absolutely patronizing way they are looking into this new venture?
“ESPN’s research, says Gentile, suggests women don’t see following sports as a “passive activity” as much as men do, so espnW “should take a more active approach, showing sports but also talking about working out and being healthy and connecting to other women.”
“Gentile says “the retreat, where we talk about women finding self-esteem in sports and about getting a pedicure, is a reflection of what we want to do with the espnW brand — find a more holistic way of looking at sports.”"
October 1st, 2010 at 9:30 AM
Naw man, I’m loving it. They want to be treated as equals, not special needs people. We shouldn’t have to differentiate between a female sports fan and a male sports fan.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:31 AM
poulter’s a queermo, but he’s damn good.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:31 AM
Was this taken from the Fuck List document?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:31 AM
I don’t think I’ll ever forget the multiple slo-mo replays of Manning, Dungy, Bettis and I think someone else all saying, “He missed it.”
October 1st, 2010 at 9:31 AM
Damnit. I always forget to read between the lines.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:31 AM
Okie St. has a very balanced offense with Hunter running the ball. THat guy is really good.
Johnson for A&M doesn’t look good. He’s not putting anything on his passes which makes me wonder if he’s got an arm/shoulder/finger injury. He was lofting up some pretty bad passes.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:31 AM
This, both teams have a seriously irritated case of The Suck. And Johnson throws like a heaux meaux.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:32 AM
Oh you’re going to throw your two cents in too, huh? Did you read the article? How in the fuck is ESPNW an opportunity for women? Because they’re going to include different workout activities in with the box scores of football games?
I don’t need a “Women’s” website. If ESPN wants to give more opportunities to women sports writers/broadcasters then they can just add some to their existing piece of shit website and tv network.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:32 AM
Anyone else besides me watch “The Ultimate Gamer” show on SyFy? (/nerd I know). There is a female gamer on there who is pretty awesome and has hung with the guys, she is in the final 4.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:32 AM
Did you read the thing and what ESPN’s VP actually said?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:32 AM
A choke would be the type of ball that Vanderjagt shanked against the Steelers.
that one was a gag job, for sure. Even if you guys don’t believe in clutch, Vanderjagt is living proof of somebody being un-clutch.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:32 AM
most of the illegal guns recovered on the street come from VA. Would it be a utopia? No place is, but I know that place, especially Southeast is infested with a senseless gun culture with those illegal guns.

Maybe you should read it. It’s a website, not a television network.

Take a cold shower, Jersey.

October 1st, 2010 at 9:35 AM
Not the Colt I was thinking of (kidding!).
I know LeBron is a beast, but by my calculations there was over 450 lbs on that inclined bench. Dont see that happening.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:35 AM
What made that A MILLION times worse was he gave the “money” sign to the Steelers’ sideline before attempting that kick. I thought it was fitting that when Vinatieri banged homed his fifth and final FG to beat the Ravens in the playoffs the next year, Dungy was seen on the sideline saying, “money, money.”
October 1st, 2010 at 9:36 AM
So is Justin Bieber. Are you going to stick up for that little Douchenozzle too, Irish?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:36 AM
This DOES treat them as equals, Jersey. It gives them the equal opportunity to have agency and be employed in the world of sports. Who says the ladies that write for ESPNW won’t have their content featured on ESPN.com or be asked to appear on SportsCenter and other ESPN programming to provide their views.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:36 AM
he’s an even bigger queermo if he’s a fagic fan.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:36 AM
aren’t gun shows the real problem though, with lax ID verification and wait periods etc?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:36 AM
smells lesbian-y in here this morning. the butch kind.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:36 AM
I’d never laughed so hard in my life after that. If I had the opportunity right then, I would’ve put $1000 on him missing.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:36 AM
Did he do that twice? Because the time I saw him do it, it was against the Pats.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:37 AM
I’m sorry, but I’ve been making Fuck Thesis jokes since last afternoon. They are getting broken out all weekend.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:37 AM
How does OK State have a QB who’s nearly 27?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:37 AM
Nobody came up smaller in the playoffs for the Colts than Vanderjagt. Aside from one monster game against the Broncos, Marvin Harrison could give him a run for his money. Sadly, aside from one block where Vince Wilfork tripped over a lineman’s foot, Jeff Saturday would also be in the running.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:37 AM
So is Justin Bieber. Are you going to stick up for that little Douchenozzle too, Irish?
is he really? never heard that before. I always see Poulter at the Magic games. he plays above the rim
October 1st, 2010 at 9:37 AM
Yes, thank you genius. I am well aware. This is the quote I’m referring to:
ESPN’s research, says Gentile, suggests women don’t see following sports as a “passive activity” as much as men do, so espnW “should take a more active approach, showing sports but also talking about working out and being healthy and connecting to other women.”
I find both that statement and your neanderthal attitude towards women sports fans insulting. You’re not Don Draper and this isn’t 1960. In fact, I’m pretty sure I know more about sports than you so take your opinion and shove it up your ass.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:38 AM
Yep. Twice. Same length of kick. Same result.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:38 AM
Justin Bieber. Superstar. Stop hating.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:38 AM
Let me pose this question…
So the men that are employed by say, ESPN Los Angeles, aren’t being given equal opportunity just because they’re focusing on the beat of Los Angeles sports?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:38 AM
Right, because this big company performed their research and it started and ended with you? LOL, whatever.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:39 AM
Not the Colt I was thinking of (kidding!).
coop, I think Jerome Bettis made a pledge to buy Vanderjagt’s booze for the rest of his life. That gagged kick really saved Bettis’s reputation. Also old grey peen getting a hand on Jason David (right?)’s ankle.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:39 AM
I will hate the fuck out of Justin Beiber for a long time, and no one will stop me.

October 1st, 2010 at 9:40 AM
aren’t gun shows the real problem though, with lax ID verification and wait periods etc?
I think the waiting period thing didn’t stay a law. I know I bought a handgun a few years ago, and outside of a quick background check, there was nothing else. I didn’t have to wait 3 days. And I’m in a pretty liberal state.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:41 AM
To be fair ESPN’s market research also thought the nation was demanding a Jay Mohr sports talk show

Nick Harper. His wife stabbed him in the leg the night prior. It just wasn’t meant to be. Probably karma for the incorrectly overturned Polamalu INT.
I remember now. and he forewent the sideline in favor of running back to the middle. I remember the 8 minute delay on that Polamalu INT, too.

I would let Alison Brie chloroform me any day.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:44 AM
I can’t blame Hasselbeck for that one, if only because Seattle had been such a nothing franchise for so long, that if he says that and they DO score, he’s a friggin legend. Instead he looks like an idiot in a long line of them, but still, that one was probably worth the risk.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:44 AM
So, anyways…
I was watching that NFL countdown of the top 100 players last night. Two guys I saw on there that were before my time and I didn’t even recognize their names that impressed the hell out of me:
Randy White and Willie Lanier. Holy shit. Way ahead of their times. Lanier was faster than everyone else on the field and Randy White was a fucking badass.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:44 AM
Well, lets take a look at this from another perspective. How many women actively post on this site? How many women actively post on other sport sites? Listening to sports radio, what percentage of the callers would you gather are women?

October 1st, 2010 at 9:44 AM
The kicker take any responsibility for being part of two two returns for touchdowns in SB history? The one against the Bears pissed me off since I thought I got good value on betting Dominic Rhodes to get the first score of the game
October 1st, 2010 at 9:46 AM
Wait until you get to the part where they show Gene Upshaw coming around the corner with his giant fucking forearm wraps. Terrifying.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:46 AM
They are being hired and now at a greater frequency. How is this so difficult to understand?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:46 AM
As rough as DC was in the 80′s/ early 90′s you could have made it so no firearm/bow/knife/blunt object was 15 HOURS away and they still would have found their way in. I just think its complete naive to think those guns came from MD or VA.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:46 AM
Never missed when the game was on the line.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:46 AM

YOU DIDN’T KNOW WHO RANDY WHITE WAS?!?!?!
October 1st, 2010 at 9:47 AM
Randy White and Willie Lanier. Holy shit. Way ahead of their times. Lanier was faster than everyone else on the field and Randy White was a fucking badass
I caught the Randy White segment the other day – the dude was genuinely intimidating. I liked the part where Howie was explaining that they would ignore the play call and then blame each other in the meetings after.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:47 AM
I can’t speak for the first one, as I’m not knowledgeable about the Patriots’ kick coverage at that time, but the 2006 Colts allowed multiple kick returns for TD’s that season. Vinatieri’s never been a boomer off the tee, as evidenced by his being replaced by Pat McAfee, but not sure you can put too much on him there. Now John Kasay, on the other hand, can sit on a rusty knife.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:48 AM
I didn’t even recognize their names that impressed the hell out of me:
You aren’t familiar with the Manster, Randy White? Get a clue, my friend, get a clue. I know who Willie Lanier is, and his wonky helmet, but that’s really about it.
/defensive players from the 70′s don’t get a ton of recognition.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:48 AM
Regardless of the amount, these women who do these things don’t need a special women’s only website. THAT’S why we’re insulted. They want to separate the women from the men because they think women can only like sports if tories on health tips and connecting with other women are included with their sports stories.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:48 AM
Randy White and Willie Lanier. Holy shit. Way ahead of their times. Lanier was faster than everyone else on the field and Randy White was a fucking badass.
I DVR’s last night, but if it was the repeat from last week, it was Randy White and Bobby Bell, Lanier’s teammate at KC (unless Lanier was in the new episode I DVR’d)
/either way, all those guys were great players
October 1st, 2010 at 9:48 AM
I can’t help but love this.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:48 AM
I saw that. Didn’t know he played for Madden and the Raiders. Al Davis, pre-skeletor, was actually a pretty cool dude. That entire team, especially the offensive line, was beastly.
I love how his nickname was Highway 63. Just awesome.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:49 AM
but the 2006 Colts allowed multiple kick returns for TD’s that season.
then they probably won’t allow one this week. I crunched the numbers.

October 1st, 2010 at 9:50 AM
They’re being hired to write about girly shit like working out, health, and connecting with other women. They’re not being hired because they’re writing a good story about sports. Why is this so difficult for you to understand? Would it make more sense if a male was explaining it to you?

October 1st, 2010 at 9:51 AM
Never missed when the game was on the line.
he did when he first started w/ the Pats, in fact he missed a Hartley-esque kick at Rich Stadium to lose to the Bills that I was at. He was terrible as a rook/2nd year player, but he was definitely money for a few years in those SB years
October 1st, 2010 at 9:51 AM
Probably did a little too much handing off for their liking, Bob Griese didn’t make their list did he?
Starr calls me every election time trying to get votes for the Republican Party…disappointing
October 1st, 2010 at 9:51 AM
I think punters can take a huge blame for certain returns, but pinning a kickoff return on a kicker not reaching the endzone is different in my opinion. I don’t know how much more blame the kicker should get when the return team lets someone run through their coverage. John Kasay gets way too much blame for that kickoff. There was a lot of time left on the clock and the Pats even had an offensive pass interference called against them during the drive. It wasn’t like the OOB kick ended the game.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:51 AM
That’s partial. They also see a space where additional revenue can come in. It is insulting, but it is also good business for ESPN. And, sadly, they are very right.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:51 AM
It’s not naieve, it’s fact.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:51 AM
Spencer… this guy played in the 1960s and 70s. How am I supposed to know who he was?
That being said, now that I know, he was a fucking badass. Dude just trucked blockers. The handwraps and broken thumbs of NFL yesteryear are so cool to see. It makes today’s players look so… soft.

randy white played until 1988. I didn’t remember that.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:58 AM
It can’t be regardless of the amount. The amount is from what they drew their conclusion for the content of their site. ESPN has had a girls high school site I’ve followed for about 2 years now. Why not just have a high school basketball site for boys and girls? Because we know the reality is the girls content would be swallowed up and lost on a boys site. On this site, they get to provide much more content on the players and their recruitment than they would on a combined site.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:59 AM
Sorry about Marve. Genuinely feel bad for that guy. Broke Tebow’s high school records and now he won’t get more than 1 season as a starter, if that.
cleet: that kid should be used as required study for all HS elite athletes and their parents as to how to fuck up a kid’s life. Kid commits to Alabama, but Shula gets whacked, so Dad puts him on the parade & ends up at Miami.
Kid’s ego is out of control & fucks up, Dad gets pissed, the HS coach berates Shannon and forbids the U from EVER stepping foot in “HIS” HS (“sorry about that kids, can’t go to Miami ’cause your coach got mad”).
Dad takes kid on another recruiting parade, signs w/ Purdue, & tears his ACL the next day, doing what I don’t know. Now, done again.

I’ll bet your season tickets that it doesn’t fail. In fact, I bet it’s more successful than the ESPN local websites.

My homer suggestions for books about the old days: Instant Replay by Jerry Kramer and Dick Schapp and the Lombardi biography When Pride Still Mattered
October 1st, 2010 at 9:59 AM
I grew up watching the videos SI used to put out on the NFL, with past highlights, bloopers, Super Bowl stuff, etc. My grandfather used to get them every year he renewed his subscription.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:59 AM
Thats the thing, its like theyre not even going after women sports fans, they re going after chicks like my sister. We’ll see if it works.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:00 AM
A couple good ones to start with are The GM and Johnny U, both by the same guy, whose name escapes me. You can get through each of them in one night.
If you are looking for history of the league rather than specific players then The League by David Harris is a good read.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:00 AM
Really? You stopped watching hockey for years, the Blackhawks win a Stanley Cup and now suddenly you’re an expert on hockey?
October 1st, 2010 at 10:00 AM
Seriously, besides Bugs Bunny, that NFL Films stuff was ALL I watched as a kid. I rented those same tapes over and over again. Still, not knowing about Randy White is like not knowing about Junior Seau or Derrick Thomas, but I wouldn’t put those guys past SC either.

Boston Globe is scooping up one of the best in the biz. The guy knows his football. Sad to see him go and wish him the best.

I’ll be happy to accept it. But, I know a lot of women, especially women that went to college with major sports, that would probably love some shit like this if their interest was correctly piqued. There are a lot of casual sports women;s fans that don’t slobber over SportsCenter or read three of four blogs a day. I know my sister wouldn’t be interested in some women’s based ESPN media, but my mom would eat that shit up.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:02 AM
And Darrel, you seem to be under the assumption they are creating ESPNW to focus on women’s sports. Read the article, that is not the focus. The focus is on the same sports content, but making it appealing to women. I dont think their idea is to make a WNBA channel.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:02 AM
Love the bit about how Kramer showed up to camp at 260 and Lombardi was furious working him like a dog to get back down to 240…different breed of player in those days

America’s a rough city dude. I really believe its culture Austrailia’s violent crime went through the roof after they banned guns. There is no answer that could fit on a comment post. liljpq loved Instant Replay. My first memory of a football game was watching the Packers & hearing Ray Scott’s voice. Packers & Bart Starr (and his strong Republican values) were my first favorite team and player

Football Follies hosted by Jonathan Winters. Wore that VHS out.

This Week in Baseball has become a joke now though. Although, it is targeted to a younger audience so that’s probably why I don’t find it appealing anymore.

I’m arguing with a clown. A simple google search would have shown you the fact that is common knowledge regarding the source of the illegal guns found in DC.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:10 AM
Huh? I don’t think I’ve ever bitched about Erin Andrews being hired at ESPN. I think she’s one of the few sideline reporters that actually asks intelligent questions to coaches and players during games. I don’t know enough about Jenn Brown’s actual work to “bitch” about her. I just make fun of her five head.

So looking forward to it. The Oilers last 2 preseason games are against the Flamers as well – should have a nice hate on for each other for the opener.

you had to respond twice? Keep working, eventually you’ll come up with a good one.

I appreciate the pity. However, I’m going to proclaim myself the most level-headed, objective Leaf fan on the planet. It’s unlikely you’ll see much in the way of stupid shit coming from me. However, you will likely see lots of cursing as the Leafs exit playoff contention somewhere around November 15th.

If the Oil is intention by Christmas I will be surprised and also disappointed – they need a couple more years of high end picks before there is any chance of real success. I agree with the level headed part BTW.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:23 AM
Garland – I’ll throw a small wager down on the Leafs making the playoffs. The East sucks. They can make the 8 seed.
I think you’ll be cursing at Kris Versteeg as he over-handles the puck and turns it over in the neutral zone or blows a 2 on 1 though.

Tough division though, the Habs, Bruins, Sabres Sens were all playoff teams last year. Don’t know that they have regressed enough to fall behind the Leafs.

I did a google on AK47 in Virginia, and got plenty of results. Here’s one.
Looks like you can get them in virginia, at a gun store.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:27 AM
howabout atlantic firearms in maryland?
and here’s a list of where to get them in VA.
it’s relatively easy to get an AK and even easier to make it fully auto once you get it. of course, you get caught with a fully auto AK and you’re FUCKED.

and AK’s aren’t anything really special. ive gone to two gun shows in the past three months and there have been one or two AK’s at each of them.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:31 AM
NON automatic versions, of course.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:31 AM
Playoffs are possible but unlikely. What’s the proposed wager?
I don’t think I’ll be cursing Versteeg too often. He’ll have talent on the ice with him (Kessel & Bozak) who like to share the puck so I think he’ll follow suit. I also like the Leafs fourth line (Orr-Hanson-Brown) from a hitting/fighting perspective. They will hopefully raise 8-10 minutes of hell each game. Everything else on the team terrifies me.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:32 AM

October 1st, 2010 at 10:35 AM
Agree. Sabres could be a darkhorse to completely fall off the wagon this year. If I had to pick one team to not make the playoffs out of that division besides Toronto, it’s Montreal. Between the pipes this season could be a pleasant surprise… or an unmitigated disaster.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:36 AM
meh…they’re really nothing special. AK’s are loud as fuck and cool looking but they’re kinda inaccurate out over 150 yards.

Depends how the defense plays in front for the Habs. PK Subban really impressed me in the playoffs last year. That dude can skate like the wind.

I think Ive figured it out – SC is defending ESPNW because the content will be geared towards him.

You forgot the the franchise will ultimately give up on him, he will go somewhere else (for 10 cents on the dollar) and turn into a top 10 goalie in the league.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:43 AM
Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez. sorry I thought people would get the reference to Benny “the jet” Rodriguez
October 1st, 2010 at 10:45 AM
He’s defending the business aspect of it, but you and SG have willfully ignored that. Just because it’s not targeted to women like you, doesn’t mean there’s not a market for it. My sister doesn’t fit in the target demo, but my mother probably does. You can choose to ignore this explanation as well.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:46 AM
and what are you apologizing for? Because you were pretty vehement, and pretty wrong all at once.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:46 AM
If Halak does this for the Blues this season, I’m going to be pissed. The game wasn’t televised last night but based on the tweets I saw from the beat writers, he looked really good last night.

Women’s Olympic hockey sucks. It’s two teams, they need to get rid of it.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:48 AM
I’ve been on the PK bandwagon since he was 15. He’s super skilled and he gambles…a lot. He’s reigned that stuff in quite a bit but I wouldn’t count on him being a lock-down kind of d-man. He should do great things for the powerplay.
By the way, write down his brother’s name (Jordan Subban) for the 2013 draft. He’s one of the top minor midget players in Ontario and will be heading to the OHL next year. He’s a PK clone but is further along in his development compared to PK at age 15. There’s also another brother in the family (Malcolm) playing goalie for the Belleville Bulls this year who might have a shot at a pro career.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:49 AM
Women’s Olympic hockey sucks. It’s two teams, they need to get rid of it.
What they need to do is continue to develop the grass roots programs in some of the other nations. In many places (ex. Scandinavian countries) there is still a bias against women playing hockey, once those are overcome the national programs will improve. Oh and introduce body checking.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:50 AM
I said I stand corrected in an earlier comment. So I was apologizing for the heat.

I’ve been on the PK bandwagon since he was 15. He’s super skilled and he gambles…a lot.
Glad I refreshed before posting. Was about to say the same thing. They will need to play him with big Hal or Gorges so that he can play the kind of game he needs to to be effective.
