College Football Awards: Week Five
College Football October 4th. 2010, 12:15pmAlabama (Sean Connery): The media is crediting Boise, but that obscure team from Tuscaloosa needed to prove itself. Defending national champion Alabama leveled Florida 31-6, a feat that left Urban Meyer speechless. Bama has a relentless offense balanced by arguably the two best running backs in college football. Their defense that lost nine starters has not allowed a second-half touchdown. The “inexperienced” secondary has six interceptions in the last two games. The Crimson Tide has been demonstrably the best team in the country, through five games.
Oregon (Daniel Craig): This time it was Stanford who got punched in the mouth. Oregon erased a 21-3 deficit and scored 28 unanswered points in the second half for a 51-31 win. The Ducks have outscored opponents 114-7 in the second half this season. The defense allowed 500+ yards again, though the offense may never stall enough for that to become an issue. Don’t you dare call this a statement win.
Les Miles (Pierce Brosnan): The Tigers are technically successful – 5-0, two wins over ranked teams – but no one who has watched them will believe it. LSU’s defense against Tennessee was punishing and they out-gained Tennessee by 200 yards, but poor execution, turnovers and stupidity almost cost them. Making a wrong decision is conceivable, but there’s no decision in clock management. It’s logic and common sense, a sequence fo rote if-then statements. Les Miles and Jordan Jefferson, more than any coach and quarterback, should be prepared for this type of situation.
Wisconsin Football (Roger Moore): Wisconsin was ranked well initially. They underwhelmed against FBS opposition, but inertia kept them there. Sparty let out the hot air. The Badgers weren’t tuning up for the conference season. They weren’t “playing Wisconsin football.” They just aren’t that special. Michigan State controlled the ball. They played tough defense. They beat Wisconsin at their own game. It was “an upset,” though Michigan State was just a better team.
BYU (Timothy Dalton): This team felt shackled by their conference schedule? BYU has a four-game losing streak, capped last weekend by a 15-point defeat against then 1-3 Utah State. They have been run over, literally, allowing 292 yards per game during the stretch. It’s no surprise defensive coordinator Jamie Hill was canned. Not one of the games has been within two touchdowns. This is the program’s worst start since 1973. Hopefully, Joseph Smith can pull something from his hat, because their next two games are against 3-1 San Diego State and away at TCU.

lol…nice post.
wisky really is roger moore.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:19 PM
They’re very good, had we not shot ourselves in the foot so much (4 times in the 20 w/o a TD to show) it could have been at least interesting.
We just sucked!
October 4th, 2010 at 12:21 PM
I like the theme duffy but Les Miles is George Lazenby, calling him Brosnan is an insult to Brosnan. And disagree also on Timothy Dalon, it should be TCU.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:22 PM
Ohio State (George Lazenby)- Once seen as a potential star is now finding themselves on the defensive after almost getting Zooked.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:22 PM
Alabama was impressive. I will say though that Florida had a TON of chances to score multiple TD’s and couldn’t get anywhere on short-yardage. They really miss Tebow more in those situations than anywhere else.
Oregon’s offense is pretty impressive but there will be at least one game where things just won’t click. They have a pretty manageable schedule from here on out though: @USC, AZ, @ Ore St.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:22 PM
Since a 12 men on the field call is reviewable, would a fifth down play be as well?
October 4th, 2010 at 12:22 PM
Texas (Leslie Nielsen)
October 4th, 2010 at 12:22 PM
Again… PAC-10 is the new Big XII. They basically play 7-on-7 football.
Alabama is incredible. Dominating. That backfield is such a brutal combo for opposing defenses. The Bammer defensive backs are really well coached, too.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:23 PM
not bad but if we’re being fair, OSU has always had trouble with illinois.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:24 PM
That LSU game was the funniest thing I’ve seen in a football game in quite some time.
Derek Dooley looks so overwhelmed it’s kind of sad.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:24 PM
Bill Guerin released
October 4th, 2010 at 12:24 PM
13 guys is a lot of guys to have on the field.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:24 PM
God, I hate James Bond.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:25 PM
They have and I have no explanation for that. It’s like Iowa’s trouble with jNWU.
I also think Brosnan was a good Bond. Well aware I’m in the minority.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:27 PM
They need 6 more people!
October 4th, 2010 at 12:28 PM
In the LSU game wouldn’t it of been a penalty when number 53 takes his helmet off and slams it to the ground just as the play ends?
October 4th, 2010 at 12:28 PM
fuck that game.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:28 PM
Dougie is the worst dance since that Soulja Boy crap a few years ago.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:28 PM
And here I thought I was the only one…so this is what it feels like, when doves cry
Bret Bielema sucks
October 4th, 2010 at 12:29 PM
Brosnan wasn’t awful. He was just too much of a pretty boy to believe he was a trained assassin. Movie quality also plummeted after Golden Eye. Fell asleep during a couple of the later ones, which should be impossible during a Bond movie.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:29 PM
glad that tennessees blatant cheating was punished
October 4th, 2010 at 12:30 PM
God, I hate James Bond.
And here I thought I was the only one…so this is what it feels like, when doves cry
they’re such shitty, repetitive movies. Free running? Ooh, awesome.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:30 PM
I also think Brosnan was a good Bond. Well aware I’m in the minority.
Only in Goldeneye. The rest of his movies in the role are a pox on the character.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:30 PM
Happy day!
October 4th, 2010 at 12:31 PM
yes. 15 yards. Chris Low saw that as well.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:31 PM
am I missing something here?
October 4th, 2010 at 12:31 PM
I’m curious what the spread will be when the Tide roll into Baton Rouge. I’d lay 14 points to the Tigers, easy.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:32 PM
Truthfully, none of them are plausible as trained assassins. Although it appears hitman is second only to alcoholic, burned out cop in terms of job availability.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:32 PM
Umm, this is nothing knew. The Pac-10 always has high-scoring games.
I’d say it’s the second-best conference so far this year, based on performance. I know I’ll get a lot flak from all the Big Ten people on here, but outside of OSU I’m not impressed by any Big Ten team outside of maybe Michigan State.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:32 PM
Roomie showed me the preview for that last week. I will definitely see it for Christmas this year.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:32 PM
No insult of Brosnan is too strong if you had to sit through his singing in Mama Mia.
/forward to :25
//no homo
October 4th, 2010 at 12:33 PM
Bama, Ohio State and even Boise would take down Oregon in my opinion. That defense is complete shit. Though it could be worse. Your team could be 1-4 coming off of a loss to fucking Colorado. FML.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:34 PM
Did you at least enjoy Boulder before the game?
October 4th, 2010 at 12:34 PM
husker – I’m coming up for the game this weekend. you know when the last time both Tennessee and Georgia had losing records and played each other? 1906.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:34 PM
My favorite line from the post is “maybe Joseph Smith can pull something from this hat.” Not sure why, but it made me laugh pretty hard.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:36 PM
I cant believe they rushed the field in Boulder afterwards
October 4th, 2010 at 12:37 PM
hah thats awesome really good shrooms i guess
October 4th, 2010 at 12:38 PM
Jeff Bridges is an absolute joy to watch age. Fucking awesome.
Matt Damon has more cotton balls crammed into his mouth than Don Corleone.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:38 PM
I own every single James Bond movie and have seen everyone of them 5 times plus (including the 1954 CBS TV special for Casino Royale). I’d rank them:
Connery>Craig>Brosnan>Moore>Lazenby>Dalton
I’ve always thought Moore was WAY overrated, but part of the problem is that so many of his movies had these ridiculous sight gags (animals doing double takes) and awful double entendres that the movies are almost unwatchable now.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:38 PM
That game in East Lansing should have been perfect for Wisconsin, too. Sloppy conditions for a team with the best OL in the conference and they let Kirk Cousins (!!!) beat them.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:39 PM
Notre Dame!
October 4th, 2010 at 12:40 PM
Loved it. Boulder is gorgeous. Just an amazing place. I can’t imagine going to Colorado for school.
Miz: At least Tenn is competitive against somewhat decent teams. Colorado is fucking terrible. As is Miss St. UGA has to 6-1 in the last 7 to avoid being 6-6. Holy.Fucking.Shit.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:41 PM
I kinda applaud Oregon for just saying screw it we are going to keep scoring and the only way you can beat us is to stop it. There are probably only a few defenses that can.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:41 PM
On the Bond discussion, LSU (specifically Miles and Jefferson) would be Woody Allen.
The most interesting story to come out of that was that T. Bob Hebert, the center and former Saints quarterback Bobby Hebert’s son, said that he just snapped the ball because he wasn’t letting the clock run out. The reason why it went behind Jefferson was because he didn’t call shit and he wasn’t ready for it.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:42 PM
That’s a Smith and Wesson…and you’ve had your six.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:42 PM
Couple homerific stats for everyone real quick…
Iowa’s defense is ranked #2, behind Alabama, in total scoring defense. They are surrendering only 10.4 pts a game.
Ricky Stanzi is 6th in the Nation in Pass Efficiency, he is 82/121 67% 1226 yards 10 TD 2 INT.
/aware we lost to a team in the PAC-10, the only one that appears to have any interest in playing defense
October 4th, 2010 at 12:43 PM
Duffy gets it.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:43 PM
Defending national champion Alabama leveled Florida 31-6, a feat left Urban Meyer speechless.
Saw that coming a mile away…kinda like I see Urban trying to stomp Les Miles in the nuts.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:43 PM
Agree. I enjoy the Bond films as a series but don’t take them too seriously. That being said I’ve seen every single one and have my own personal top ten.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:44 PM
husker – don’t we have a name change bet on UT @ UGA?
October 4th, 2010 at 12:44 PM
Too bad for Oregon one of them will make the title game.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:44 PM
Brosnans biggest problem is that he is always Pierce Brosnan in every role he plays. It’s hard to see him in something and not thing “hey its pierce brosnan!”
October 4th, 2010 at 12:45 PM
We do. I’m preparing to change mine. UGA isn’t winning shit this year.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:45 PM
Charles Bronson would have made a great James Bond. Him or Sam Elliot.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:45 PM
Yep, but if OSU doesn’t lose they won’t find out.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:46 PM
Absolutely. Fuck the suave closet case that is James Bond. I want a remorseless killing machine who doesn’t drink cosmos.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:46 PM
husker – I propose adding “is the crippliest of the cripples” to the end of the loser’s commenting name.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:46 PM
I like the theme duffy but Les Miles is George Lazenby,
I so approve of this message.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:47 PM
little disappointed hes not in true grit
October 4th, 2010 at 12:47 PM
or Randy Quaid
October 4th, 2010 at 12:48 PM
oklahoma has a walk to the b12 title game. they might go over oregon too
October 4th, 2010 at 12:48 PM
Casting has just been pretty bad as well with his movies. A lot of people who should never have anything to do with James Bond were always cast in this movies- Terri Hatcher, Denise Richards, Halle Berry. I like Halle as much as anyone else, but she should not be in a Bond movie. They just wanted a name, thats why they cast her. And Madonna did one of the theme songs, another bad idea.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:48 PM
Or Louie Anderson
October 4th, 2010 at 12:48 PM
I really like Matt Damon but I’m not sure I’m buying him in this.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:48 PM
Movie quality also plummeted after Golden Eye. Fell asleep during a couple of the later ones, which should be impossible during a Bond movie.
I’ll agree with this until Casino Royale. That movie was the bomb, yo.
The last one? Not so much. Too rushed.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:49 PM
Tell me you wouldn’t want to see this made into a movie.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:49 PM
At least Nebraska will be on TV Thursday. Of course I think they’ll lose, so all is just wonderful for me.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:49 PM
Goldeneye was A++++++, hot Russian chicks, awesome villain, funny comic relief, Joe Don Baker (Mitchell!), a tank chase, can’t go wrong there. I’ll stick up for The World is Not Enough too, only because of Denise Richards as a nuclear scientist.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:50 PM
Morgan Burnett, torn ACL.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:50 PM
Husker, what was the story with the crowd rushing the field. that shit was weak sauce.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:50 PM
It suprises me you are this passionate about this.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:50 PM
Who is Never Say Never Again Sean Connery?
/JoePa?
October 4th, 2010 at 12:50 PM
oklahoma has a walk to the b12 title game. they might go over oregon too
on the road for Bedlam is a walk? Okie State hasn’t lost yet.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:50 PM
For even more fun, next week the awards should use Bond girls.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:50 PM
They’re really not that good. Texas sucks so you shouldn’t take too much away there. Ok St and A&M (both on the road) usually give them a good game.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:50 PM
I have a feeling that the cocktail party will be very FLORIDA-Y this year.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:51 PM
Ha!! I love it.
/sad face
October 4th, 2010 at 12:51 PM
Fuck – they even gave her a speaking role
October 4th, 2010 at 12:51 PM
Me too. I just don’t like prisses. To me, James Bond is the Joe Buck or Trey Wingo of movie heroes.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:51 PM
I liked it except that they dumbed it down and made about Texas Hold-em
October 4th, 2010 at 12:52 PM
Winner.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:52 PM
though you have to give props to Pierce for getting Bond back in an Aston Martin. My sister-in-laws brother works for BMW, and Beamer pulled out of future work with them because Pierce bitched so much about driving their car. When they sent a letter to the studio saying they would no longer be seeking business with them, the post script said: There is only one James Bond: Sean Connery.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:53 PM
I like this.
Thanks for the confidence booster on Saturday, too. I’m excited now that we have two weeks to prepare for Michigan as well. Want to see what they look like against a real team (I think) in MSU this weekend, too.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:53 PM
It’d be great watching him call every Euro-criminal “Pedro”.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:53 PM
They’ll beat Tech. Lock city.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:53 PM
I nominate Lane Kiffin for Pussy Galore
October 4th, 2010 at 12:53 PM
Tell me you wouldn’t want to see this made into a movie.
[speechless]
October 4th, 2010 at 12:53 PM
I liked it except that they dumbed it down and made about Texas Hold-em
but with astronomical hands. That scene was worse than the last one in the cincinnati kid, or even worse that than horrifying Stallone poker movie.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:53 PM
I don’t know. UGA fans were all over Boulder this week. It was crazy.
Ark: The rushing of the field made me even more pissed about the game. We lost to a team whose fans rush the field when beating a 1-3 team. Fucking hippies.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:53 PM
At the end when Pierce says. “I thought Christmas only came once a year” I was expecting the looney Tunes backdrop to fall down and Porky Pig to come through the middle.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:53 PM
If they’re not gonna call it against Terrence Cody last year, they’re never gonna call it. Ironicly enough, also against Tennessee. I guess God just hates the Volunteers.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:53 PM
embrace it, man. you too could be on your third coach in three years if everything works out right.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:55 PM
Any movie with Stuart Townsend as the lead is destined for failure. TV remakes, too. Night Stalker, my ass.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:55 PM
That Z3 was a piece of shit.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:55 PM
what about maverick
October 4th, 2010 at 12:55 PM
Venebles.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:55 PM
As if the defense hasn’t been bad enough…god, you know it’s bad when I’m thinking “Just two more weeks without the 2600 Atari Bigby” and that’s if he’s even able to come back
October 4th, 2010 at 12:55 PM
Dont have to worry about any more bad bond movies for a while. MGM is so in debt that who knows when the nest will ever get made> But U read this morning that The Hobbit is going to be officially announced with Peter Jackson directing, which is good news.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:56 PM
Ha! I acutally like that one. A bottle of piss to the face is never a bad combat move. Also that was Kim Basinger at the height of her powers.
yeah, they definitely did that to play down to the mouthbreathers out there.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:56 PM
That game played out exactly as I expected. The coaching staff is stuck in their ways, refusing to even remotely attempt to let the freshman make plays/audible out of bad situations, and overplaying seniors/upper classmen such as Royster/Gbadyu/etc. when there are more talented freshman/sophomores on the roster.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:57 PM
He was cast as Arigorn in Lord Of The Rings, but fired after a few days into filming. Good idea.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:57 PM
what about maverick
I’ve got a soft spot for Jim Garner. I used to watch Rockford Files reruns when I was a kid.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:57 PM
Z8, but yes. The Lotus Esprit as underwater car was my dream car as a kid.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:58 PM
He was cast as Aragorn in Lord Of The Rings, but fired after a few days into filming. Good idea.
DDL turned it down before they got this guy. Viggo was third choice.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:58 PM
I’ll take the “real” Bond stunts over that CGI garbage any day of the week. I went to school with the daughter of the guy who jumped the police cars with the speedboat in Live and Let Die and flew the airplane sideways through the hanger in Octopussy. That dude was insane.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:58 PM
I have mixed emotions about this. Not for his directing but the writing and the direction of the plot in the trilogy. Was not thrilled with some of the changes he, his wife and the other chick (Boyens?) made. I have a feeling they will do the same with The Hobbit. If I were Jackson I would make it as true to the book as possible.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:58 PM
They’re very good, had we not shot ourselves in the foot so much (4 times in the 20 w/o a TD to show) it could have been at least interesting
like you had any choice but to shoot yourself… Bama dominated from start to finish.
they will now start the run of their schedule where every opponent has a bye week prior to playing them. fucking ridiculous.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:59 PM
/Slides “The Notebook” into DVD tray
October 4th, 2010 at 12:59 PM
yeah good movie just talking about the ridiculous poker hands at the end
October 4th, 2010 at 12:59 PM
Obvious passing situations oughta be more fun. Jarrett Bush will get his chance to make a run at Ahmad Carrol’s highly touted pass interference/defensive holding record. I say Ron Winter’s crew calls Green Bay the rest of the season to ensure it happens.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:59 PM
it was a Z3 in Goldeneye.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:00 PM
yeah good movie just talking about the ridiculous poker hands at the end
they were at least tongue-in-cheek about the cheating going on. Even Dr Octopus had a straight flush.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:00 PM
Wait – you mean Pierce Brosnan wind surfing in the arctic through icebergs wasn’t CGI?
October 4th, 2010 at 1:00 PM
They’ll beat Tech. Lock city.
so does everyone not named Wake Forest.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:03 PM
I meant the old-school Connery/Moore Bond days.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:04 PM
Or North Carolina. Either one.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:04 PM
Stuart Townsend as Aragorn?? Wow. DDL would’ve been… interesting. Viggo was perfect, right age, right look, not action heroey but still badass.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:04 PM
I meant the old-school Connery/Moore Bond days.
when James Bond was lashed to a conveyor belt and about to get vivisected by a laser?
October 4th, 2010 at 1:04 PM
if anyone could do it its brosnan
October 4th, 2010 at 1:04 PM
Eh, there are parts of LOTR that wouldn’t have translated well into the movies. The hobbits having to face Saruman again in the Shire would have confused a lot of people, and the whole Tom Bombadil thing is uneccesary.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:05 PM
DDL would’ve been… interesting
he would have eaten all of New Zealand’s picturesque scenery.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:07 PM
Eh, there are parts of LOTR that wouldn’t have translated well into the movies. The hobbits having to face Saruman again in the Shire would have confused a lot of people, and the whole Tom Bombadil thing is uneccesary.
I was OK with the changes, except that the theatrical release of the return of the king was obviously not the entire movie. I had to wait a whole year to see the Mouth of Sauron.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:08 PM
shit, that’s right. what a turd of a car to showcase.
/ z4>z3
October 4th, 2010 at 1:08 PM
Or North Carolina. Either one.
i want to stab anthony allen in the stomach with a wooden ladel, i can’t imagine your frustration.
at least the braves are in, right?
October 4th, 2010 at 1:10 PM
Agree on Bombadil and the Shire scouring. But they way they changed Faramir pissed me off, and the way they changed the Army of the dead’s use. I still loved it as a whole, but I think at certain times they were thinking we need a romance and we need a character to have more internal conflict.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:12 PM
No, dumbass. Like when they went into space in Moonraker
/sarcasm
October 4th, 2010 at 1:15 PM
No, dumbass. Like when they went into space in Moonraker
Movie sucked, but Shirley Bassey does a pretty mean Bond theme.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:16 PM
I want that fucker benched. Roddy Jones and Stephen Hill, too. I’m running out of things to throw and/or break in my apartment.
And given how this late summer/early fall has played out, the Braves are getting swept.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:16 PM
Oh and Goldfinger theme > Moonraker
October 4th, 2010 at 1:18 PM
Yup.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:18 PM
Goldmember > Goldfinger > Goldeneye > The Man With the Golden Gun
October 4th, 2010 at 1:33 PM
Les Miles is the gift that keeps on giving. This is not my quote, but Miles must have pictures of God with a hooker.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:34 PM
This is the perfect place to mention my unadulterated excitement for the upcoming release of GoldenEye 007 on the Wii…online multiplayer with ranks, leaderboards, leveling up, updated storyline with Craig as Bond, etc.? Can’t wait for Nov. 2.
Also, a new Bond game is being released for the HD systems on the same day – 007: Blood Stone. A great day for Bond fans – a turrible day for my wallet. Not to mention Call of Duty: Black Ops drops a week later…
October 4th, 2010 at 2:09 PM
It’s not that Arizona’s defense is good, it’s that Iowa’s offense is shit.
