Miami Bar Gives Free Drinks All Night Because the Heat Lost to the Celtics
1-liner, Heavy Drinking, NBA October 27th. 2010, 5:30pmFree Booze: “The Hollywood bar that offered to pay the tab of everyone in the house if the Heat fell to the Celtics ended up losing more than $4,000 in receipts with Miami’s 88-80 loss in Boston. Whiskey Tango All American Bar & Grill made the offer this week, saying that if the team led by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh were to lose, they would cover the tab (up to $25) of anyone who had signed up 30 minutes before game time. At tip-off the list had 164 customers on it.” [Sun-Sentinel]

“It was a really good night,” he said. “We’ll do fine.”
I bet they will…attracted more people than normal…forced them there for 3+ hours to give back $25 on drinks that are probably marked up heavily.

“It’s a packed house,” Reedy shouted into the phone late in the third quarter, when the Heat trailed by double digits. Even with the $4,100 giveback, Reedy said the bar will “definitely come out ahead.”
idiots like a fox. i can’t remember the last time I watched a game at a bar and my tab wasn’t $50+

Still likely came out ahead if they had a packed house.

This is like buying options v selling options…sure you lose big from time to time, but you win more often than you lose.
/Oh wait…that crippled Wall Street

It was only up to $25. That’s nothing. All in all they gave away $4,100 in free food and drink. Consider, these people had to sign up 30 minutes prior to tip and had to stay till the end of the game. Nearly 3 hours. Good luck keeping a tab under $25 for 3 hours.
This was a very smart move.

I agree with Babar. that $25 per guest is probably a $5-10 actual loss. plus those people probably bought overpriced food hoping the drinks would be free and probably spent more than the allotted 25 on booze.
I’m sure the Bar ended up doing fine.

It’ll create return business and think of it as an advertising cost. It’s actually a smart move. Advertising in the paper would cost more than what they lost in tabs, plus the digital media (like this blog) picked it up.

I get it now. Hollywood, FL. I was wondering why there was a sports bar in Hollywood that I’ve never heard of. I’m a little sad to see it is the Hollywood that spawned Marilyn Manson instead of the one he taints with his presence now

The $4,000 is nothing. Pay someone’s tab, they’ll keep coming back.

Whiskey Tango = White Trash……………..love it!

Plus think that they got MAD publicity….Whiskey Tango would NOT have made it on to CNN unless someone got killed at the bar…but this is GOOD publicity….smart business…

They’re doing it for every game this year. I would imagine the DUI arrest revenue will be off the hook for the City of Hollywood this season
