Do SEC bylaws not apply to the best player, on the best team, in the biggest sport when it’s financially inconvenient?  And, just to make sure, the NCAA is cool with parents asking for money for their kid’s signature as long as they dont know about it?

We still don’t have an answer to the million-dollar, or at least $200,000 question, why did Cam Newton suddenly take a rush visit to Auburn and commit within a matter of days at his father’s behest?  The NCAA doesn’t comment on potential or ongoing investigations. There is no indication Newton or Auburn have been cleared of all wrongdoing and the caveats in the NCAA’s wording suggest that’s not the case.

Cam Newton and Auburn are off the hook for now, at least until a Committee on Infractions hearing after everyone cashes the checks from the national title game.  If anyone is getting a six-figure payment out of this, it should be Auburn’s compliance staff.
