Remember When Bill Belichick Tried to Trip Marvin Harrison on the Sideline in 2004?
NFL, Video December 16th. 2010, 11:35amWith all the hubbub over Jets’ strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi tripping Miami’s Nolan Carroll on the sideline Sunday – a foolish and classless act – how come nobody’s mentioned this classic Bill Belichick attempted trip of Marvin Harrison in 2004? It’s fairly obviously from Belichick’s rapid movements that he was looking to trip Harrison – the Colts wide receiver even looks back at him, almost stunned at what the coach just attempted.

He’s definitely trying to get in his way but I don’t know if you can say he was trying to trip him. Maybe he just wanted to do some shit talking.
December 16th, 2010 at 11:38 AM
A harmless pivot. He was just trying to block his man out so he could get the rebound.
December 16th, 2010 at 11:38 AM
Obviously he’s just trying to avoid any potential gunshots
December 16th, 2010 at 11:38 AM
This seems very petty. I prefer this Harrison moment.
December 16th, 2010 at 11:38 AM
I wouldn’t call that a “trip” more than him trying to prevent Harrison from getting back on the field and making a tackle.
Speaking of Harrison, have there been any updates on the shooting case?
December 16th, 2010 at 11:38 AM
I don’t think he was trying to trip him, but he definitely was trying to impede him from getting back on the field.
December 16th, 2010 at 11:39 AM
It appears as though Belichick was trying to delay Harrison’s return to the field. Slightly different scenario with an essentially stationary WR after an interception (not sure Harrison had a chance to get back into the play) and a gunner running near full out on kick coverage.

anything I needed to know about beel beeleecheek, I learned from the south park episode. Nothing new to see here.

If we knew then what we know now about Marvin Harrison, no way this would’ve happened
December 16th, 2010 at 11:41 AM
lolz. fuck the jets.

Seattle is the same way. It’s awesome.
December 16th, 2010 at 11:47 AM
Jets coach = idiot.
that being said …
he was just standing in a legal area, lifted leg a bit.
Belichick moved twice, spun around, then stuck his leg/hip out.
December 16th, 2010 at 11:47 AM
Looks like Bill was actually trying to plant bug on Harrison so he could get the inside info from Colts’ team meetings. That, or he was actually trying to take Marvin’s leg clean off.
What a scumbag this guy is.
December 16th, 2010 at 11:48 AM
B..B..But the Pats did it first!

December 16th, 2010 at 11:48 AM
It’s faily obviously that you are trying to use this as some sort of justification for the Jets retarded handling of the present situation and their impending collapse.
December 16th, 2010 at 11:49 AM
Belichick moved twice, spun around, then stuck his leg/hip out.
That’s a stretch. What you’re saying, not what Belichick is doing.
December 16th, 2010 at 11:50 AM
How exactly do you know? We all thought Marvin Harrison was a great guy. You guys gotta stop drawing concrete conclusions about people based on whatever agenda bitter dudes in the media are trying to push.

Its no secret that Belichick is a cheater. It’s in his clever nickname.
December 16th, 2010 at 11:55 AM
As someone who grew up in Westchester and married a lifelong LI’er, I can attest that this is classic Jets fan behavior. Doesn’t matter whether you’ve seen great professional success or just a Local 608 guy, when you’re a Jet, you’re a Jet all the way.

December 16th, 2010 at 11:56 AM
how would you describe it?
Exactly how I did in the first comment. He’s clearly trying to get in his way. But I don’t see anything like an attempted trip going on there.
That doesn’t excuse it. But it’s not the same thing as what the Jets coach did.
December 16th, 2010 at 11:57 AM

December 16th, 2010 at 11:57 AM

Its amazing how the Jets and their fans can dish it out/rat everyone out but can’t take it. Enough with this pathological hatred of Belichick.
December 16th, 2010 at 11:58 AM
Just to clear the air, not once have I pulled the “well other teams did it” because that would be petty. Just everyone who does hate the Jets have erections that look like they aren’t going away over this.

Bill Belichick also carried on an affair with a married woman. Doesn’t change the fact that a Jets employee willfully interfered with a player involved in a live play.
December 16th, 2010 at 12:05 PM
Could care less about hockey, but read a good article on Derek Boogaard recently. Haven’t seen his name mentioned here by the hockey guys so I wondered what the consensus on him among fans is. Seems to strike genuine fear into the hearts of opposing players…

December 16th, 2010 at 12:06 PM
What amkes this season so great is that New England really couldn’t have done what it did without the Jets. The first loss nudged them into getting rid of a broken down Randy and bringing in Branch. Faulk was a critical part of what they do on third down, and his age would have been a concern next year had he not been injured, and the Jets just handed Faulk 2.0 in the form of Woodhead. He’ll be running draws and catching passes in the flat for first downs for years to come. That’s the type of personnel move that haunts a team. Schotty is awful, but where you really have to point the finger is at Tannenbaum.
December 16th, 2010 at 12:06 PM
Bill Belichick also carried on an affair with a married woman. Doesn’t change the fact that a Jets employee willfully interfered with a player involved in a live play.
Don’t forget that he’s a menace to sweatshirt sleeve manufacturers as well. But even that does not make this supposed attempt at a trip anything like what the Jets coach did.
December 16th, 2010 at 12:07 PM
Yeah, but this is Belichick? Don’t we expect wrestling heel behavior from him knowing what we know now?
Get Caught illegally videotaping? Check.
Run up the score when I want to? Check.
Bang other dude’s wives? Check.
I say all of this and I actually respect Belichick and admire him as a coach. But let’s not pretend this guy is some sort of a mensch or something.
Just be happy he didn’t employ someone on the sideline with poison blow darts.
December 16th, 2010 at 12:08 PM
My guess is bill wouldn’t have been successful in NY anyway
December 16th, 2010 at 12:08 PM
I think Colts fans need to realize that they’re franchise wasted one of the greatest talents walking the earth, their GM is whiny bitch who loves throwing people under the bus, and that their owner might win a vote in “closest to pull a Hunter S. Thompson”. Oh, and you stole somebody else’s franchise. Franchise thieves.
December 16th, 2010 at 12:08 PM
Well, it wasn’t directed at you. It was to TBL. But nothing you can say about the Lions will hurt my feelings. I’m numb, brah. The only advantage of rooting for a shitty team for many years: there’s no such thing as an insult.
December 16th, 2010 at 12:09 PM
The Jets’ sideline trip was far worse, which is why he was fined/suspended.

He’s a tough guy, probably one of the tougher heavy weights in the league. But the game has changed, tough guys fight other tough guys, skilled guys don’t fear a guy like him because he lacks the mobility to get around the ice and truly cause havoc. Give it a couple more years and guys like him won’t be able to find a roster spot.

Don’t forget the genetic predisposition to alcoholism, racism and the whole leading the nation in domestic violence thing. Such an attractive place that is.

Probably not, I’m hoping this is the year Lundqvist will be fresh for the playoffs instead of playing 20 straight games so the Rangers sneak in. I really like this team. They’re gritty and work for 60 minutes. Losing Callahan is a huge blow, but hopefully the corpse of Chris Drury can slide in there and hold the fort for 6 weeks or so.
also a huge thank you to Matt Cooke for continuning his dirty slew foot ways to help the Rangers get a win last night. A-hole.

I didn’t see a single nickname on that site, so I can only assume that you made them up yourself.

not reading thru 152 comments, but there’s a different intent between obstructing a player and tripping one running full speed down the sideline.
both as wrong, though one carries an intent to injure.

I’m with ill.
I get the last comment on a dead thread, so while I’m here.
The Patriots didn’t cheat as much as ESPN wants everyone to believe. There wasn’t evidence that videotape was used during the games, which is the only big deal, as taping is pretty much allowed everywhere, despite a memo which sent out (which isn’t enough to change a rule in the rulebook). Sooo.. anyone who thinks the Patriots really cheated and got an advantage (their winning record since is significantly better) is just an ESPN sheep who reads Rick Reilly.
/Is reading Rick Reilly the worst insult ever?
