UFC 126 took place on Saturday. Like most MMA events, what happens last leaves the biggest impression. Thus, UFC 126 was face-kickingly awesome. You wouldn’t want to go back and watch the entire event start to finish, but remembering Anderson Silva kicking Vitor Belfort in the face after doing his Matrix dance routine for a few minutes will never not be awesome.

So Anderson Silva is again the best fighter in the world. There was a time when people argued for Fedor. Recently, Georges St. Pierre’s utter dominance of the 170 pound division made people call him the best. But that’s all for naught. Anderson Silva can do whatever he wants when he’s healthy. When he’s not healthy, he can sustain a beating and then lock in a submission at the last minute. Next up he’ll probably face GSP. I love GSP and think he’s a great fighter, but he’s going to have trouble against Silva because Silva will dwarf him. I agree with the consensus that he’d be better off heading back up to 205…

Where there’s a good chance he’d end up meeting Jon Jones. Ryan Bader looked like an amateur on Saturday night. Jon Jones avoided Bader’s takedown attempts and controlled every minute of the fight. Jones is a monster at 205 and now he gets a title shot against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Jon Jones is so big and strong. The choke he used to submit Bader? Yeah, he had never practiced it. He’d just watched Georges St. Pierre do it a few times. He’s a freak athlete and he’s young. He opened as a favorite against the champ. And he should. Shogun is coming off knee surgery and the last time he did that, Forrest Griffin submitted him. I’m definitely rolling with Endicott, New York’s Jon Jones in March. Now this could be the start of an era.

Speaking of Forrest Griffin, he’s a big light heavyweight. Rich Franklin just had no answer for Griffin’s size advantage. I guess he’ll just have to hang out at that magical 195-pound weight class. Next for Forrest? How about Rampage-Griffin II? Winner gets a title shot? Other than that, the only big names at 205 who Forrest hasn’t fought yet are Jones, Machida and Couture.

Jake Ellenberger outworked by Jiu-Jitzu ace Carlos Eduardo Rocha. Somehow, one judge gave the fight to Rocha, 30-27. Yikes. That’s scary stuff.

Antonio Banuelos was content getting picked apart for three rounds by Miguel Torres. The only cut Torres suffered on Saturday occurred later that night while he was helping wash some knives.

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone beat up Paul Kelly after he did a fake fist-bump at the start of the fight. You come at Cerrone, you best not miss. Not sure if Kelly understands that he’s a prickly customer.

It was another ho-hum night for Japanese MMA as Michihiro Omigawa and Kid Yamamoto were both effectively decisioned.

All-in-all, we saw 10 of the 11 UFC 126 bouts on Saturday night. They were spread out over Facebook, SpikeTV and PPV, but anyway you cut it, that’s good. Plus, it ended with Anderson Silva doing something that Steven Seagal taught him. You don’t have to take my word for it though. Let’s hear what Seagal has to say about it.

“Will you please teach me your deadly stuff.” Greatest. Letter. Ever.
