This is going to be a long year.

I am outraged. MLB should be doing more to enforce headshots.

Contract the Rays, I hear that’s all the rage these days.
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:13 PM
Helmets for pitchers. Its totally going to happen in our lifetime.

Lisk is the dickface, not CRM. Get it right.
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:17 PM
i’d prefer them to just always pitch with the batting practice nets in front of them, and if the ball bounces back to hit the batter, he’s out.
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:18 PM
Loved that the catcher jogged out to get the ball first.

T-Ball
Solves the issue of pitchers being hit AND gets rid of a lot of the top salaries in the league. I think the owners will love that idea

Manny is gonna have a huge year.

Can this be a continued thread for the NL East preview? I wasn’t online for that thread, unfortunately.
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:24 PM
until he gets bored, or the rays are far behind in 3rd place.
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:27 PM
How about we just eliminate pitchers and use a pitching machine? We can go full time DH and not worry about having pitchers getting hit with line drives.
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:27 PM
How does this relate towards safety during kickoffs?
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:27 PM
Get the competition committee together!!

But pitchers getting hit with line drives is the most exciting play in the game. It’s the only reason I watch anymore.

I enjoyed all the naysaying about the Phils in that preview thread. One can only hope your worst fears are realized.

Would Little People pitchers be effective? Less surface area to hit and gives Matt and Zach something to do now that their show is cancelled?
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:34 PM
LOL, well done
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:34 PM
But what round did you draft him your FANTASY LEAGUE!?!?!?!
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:34 PM

i think if you had an extendable boom crane with a little person dangling in a harness, pitching from a height of 15-20 feet would be fun to watch.
seems too much like MXC tho.
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:37 PM
The last one is not a new development. He’s still my favorite player of all-time, though. I separate his assholishness and hatred for new age statistics from his play on the field.
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:38 PM
Would Little People pitchers be effective?
Oswalt it like 5’8″.
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:38 PM
Maybe they should move the pitchers mound back 5 yards. I’m sure that will vastly improve MLB player safety.

Fun yes, takes away from their cute ability to chase slow rollers down the line. Adorable

yeah, but if they get hit with the ball, you can have candy rain down on the field.

It’ll happen as soon as brain studies show that pitchers suffer from CTE at a rate way above the general population.

He’s still got like 5 inches on you CJ.
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:46 PM
I was under the assumption that if they were forced to pick between the two, a guy would rather get hit in the head with a line drive than get hit in the balls with a line drive. Am I correct in assuming this?
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:46 PM

The ability to live > the ability to procreate
I’ll take the shot to the balls where there’s actual protective gear in place over the 0.5″ of my finely knit wool hat.

March 23rd, 2011 at 3:52 PM
Also, I’ve taken a line drive to the jimmies before. After the 90 seconds of profuse vomiting, it’s really not that bad. It’s like that feeling where you just took the shot that put you over the edge for the night. Your mouth gets the waters, you try desperately to swallow enough to make it go away… then it hits you.
It hurts more the day after than the day of.

that’s like any other shot to the nuts, though. a good 8 second delay before the nerve endings recover enough to send the pain to your synapses.
one guy on my floor hockey team in college got hit square in the nuts by a slapshot two games in a row. after that he was gunshy as hell.

Between the pipes (along with health up front) has to be a major concern going into the playoffs. At least they didn’t sign Howard to an multi-year extens….
March 23rd, 2011 at 4:13 PM
vladdy, would you like to go back to the days nefore the two-goalie system, when eery arena had someone in the press box who would play goalie if one got hurt?
March 23rd, 2011 at 4:16 PM
2 years… Jimmy plays great in stretches then will have a bad game or two. His rebound control is horrendous.
March 23rd, 2011 at 4:19 PM

I see your fascination with her, but in that picture it really was just like BOOM, look at my forehead. It was just gleaming and shining right there taking up most of the shot. Can I say some hail mary’s or something?
