Kyrie Irving Leaves Duke, Declares For NBA Draft
College Basketball, NBA, NBA Draft April 6th. 2011, 7:20pm
Kyrie Irving, who played just 11 games in his freshman season, has decided to leave Duke early and enter the NBA draft. Irving averaged 17.5 points, 4.3 assists and 3.4 rebounds in early season and NCAA tournament games. Safe to say, Duke fans are quite disgusted by this one-and-done nonsense. This isn’t the Duke way.
“I want to thank the entire staff at Duke, especially the coaches. It was a great experience playing for Coach K. He taught me a lot about the game. Even when I was hurt, I learned a lot. Also a special thanks goes to the medical staff for getting me back on the court for the NCAA Tournament and my teammates for sticking with me throughout the entire year. Duke offered me an experience I could never have imagined.”
It should be noted that Irving might have ruined Duke’s chance of repeating as NCAA champions by coming back for the tournament after missing 26 consecutive games and blowing the chemistry the team had created during his absence as they rose to #3 in the nation.

This isn’t the Duke way.
Should have known when he showed up at the first practice in baggy shorts and black socks that this kid was a revolutionary.
April 6th, 2011 at 7:29 PM
this is just part of the reason why ncaa basketball has gone down the tubes. nice knowing you, irving. glad your hard work at the college level got you to the next level.
April 6th, 2011 at 7:38 PM
Don’t understand people ripping on Kyrie Irving for only playing 12 games. That’s enough games to win 2 national titles under awful hoops system
April 6th, 2011 at 7:40 PM
I don’t begrudge these guys leaving because, wtf, school’s gonna be there for you. The money might not. If I’ve got a kid in the future that gets drafted early in MLB my advice will always be to take the $$$ if it’s a lot ($1M+ would be my benchmark right now) because you don’t know what could happen to make you less of a prospect when your next turn comes around. It sucks for the quality of the college game but that seems like a rather heady concern for a 19-22 year old. What’s my point here, anyway? Oh, yeah, what other problems do you think mess with the game Rollo?

OT
You guys need to do yourself a favor and watch “an idiot abroad” on the Science channel. It will not disappoint.
End OT

there’s just no reason to stay, even at Duke. And besides, wasn’t he always coming out? I think even Dookies knew he was a one-and-done guy.

That show is awesome, no doubt. Poor Karl Pilkington. He thought he was filming a show called Karl Pilkington’s 7 Wonders.
April 6th, 2011 at 7:48 PM
Yes. We know. Ohio State didn’t get an auto-bid to the final four, so clearly the tournament is flawed.
April 6th, 2011 at 7:50 PM
I still haven’t watched that Clint Eastwood thing, Dirt, but I did see that it’s on Netflix instant stream. I’m going to check it out this weekend
April 6th, 2011 at 7:51 PM

Yep. But I think they’re still mad at Elton Brand and Cory Maggette, too, because they went to the NBA and were actually good which deflates the Duke brand
April 6th, 2011 at 7:52 PM
I’m sure they would of beaten Arizona had he not played…good point
April 6th, 2011 at 7:52 PM
STFU. OSU was the “1 seed.” But that bracket was #4 seed. Who the fuck did Jaime Dixon fuck to get that bracket?

OK. I’m not saying it’s a good movie, but it’s certainly worth watching. I’d never even heard of it, and I’ve seen something like 40 Clint Eastwood movies. But to reiterate…nobody in their right mind would call it a good movie.

If I’ve learned one thing about Corey Maggette, it’s that nobody is sorry to see him go away. You left off Luol Deng, who really pissed off the K by leaving.
April 6th, 2011 at 7:57 PM
You realize with that logic you can *win 12 national titles in college football, right?
*be awarded with
April 6th, 2011 at 7:58 PM
Coach K knew all along he was going to leave after this year. That’s why he recruited Austin Rivers. Coach K was mad at Luol Deng because he was not prepared for him to leave after one season and it set the program back.

That sounds like a “you” problem. Has Duke come up with some other player that’s similar to Deng anyway? There aren’t that many. He’s sort of a freak
April 6th, 2011 at 8:06 PM
Also, IIRC Deng’s stock really skyrocketed later in the year so it’s not like he had some devious master plan he just got that opportunity and took it
April 6th, 2011 at 8:07 PM
I love it when that little midget for Boston gets beaned.
April 6th, 2011 at 8:07 PM

Ha! Fair enough. I didn’t realize he’d directed so many goddam movies. I’ll take interesting, that’s usually good enough for me
April 6th, 2011 at 8:08 PM
On the college level Kyle Singler.

That isn’t Irving’s fault. It is Krwyswzeiskis fault.
Josh Selby has quit going to class at KU and is working out in Las Vegas. Besides Carmelo, has any one and done done (great writing) any good for an established program?
April 6th, 2011 at 8:41 PM
The Wings are taking a dive. Fuck… Eat shit Babs.
April 6th, 2011 at 8:43 PM
Which Eastwood movie are you talking about, dirt?

I feel like a bunch of em at Kentucky and Memphis did but I’m looking through the NCAA record books and it seems like John Calipari has never really coached a tournament team so I must be remembering that wrong
April 6th, 2011 at 8:45 PM
As much as we might bash Bill Self, if he thought Josh Selby was so good that he could make it in the pros after one year, Selby would have started most of the year. I was not impressed by Selby most of the season, unless you count banging one of the female basketball players in Allen Fieldhouse as an impressive stat!
April 6th, 2011 at 8:48 PM
The best thing John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Eric Bledsoe, and Daniel Orton did for Kentucky was leave after a year. They were more talented than this year’s freshman crop at Kentucky but they were some of the most uncoachable players I’ve seen in a long time.
April 6th, 2011 at 8:51 PM

I started to raise my hand but I’m going to need to see more evidence before I pass judgment. Link, please?
April 6th, 2011 at 8:52 PM
Hell yeah, Karl is the man. See my gravatar. You should also listen to the Ricky Gervais show podcasts. Hilarious stuff.

The Eiger Sanction
April 6th, 2011 at 8:54 PM
Ah yes….not Clint’s best effort.
April 6th, 2011 at 8:54 PM
Stark, you’re right. That should have read Tyshawn Taylor who got suspended, not Selby. Still wasn’t totally impressed with the play of Selby
/research fail
April 6th, 2011 at 8:57 PM
Oh, I wasn’t calling you out. I’m actually a little sad that you admitted that because I would never know. I just wanted to see a picture of the girl before I decided if that was a good thing or a bad thing
April 6th, 2011 at 8:57 PM
Durant was a one and done and he’s done some good things.
April 6th, 2011 at 8:58 PM
or I should say Texas has.
April 6th, 2011 at 9:01 PM
Stark, I remember seeing the story on SportsByBrooks. KU never stated the specifics behind the suspension but word got out from Lawrence and spread amongst the net. Taylor and the female player were suspended at the same time so connecting the dots was fairly easy.
/selfishly wishes Scoop Jardine would do something to get kicked off of the Syracuse team.
//he ruined the team
April 6th, 2011 at 9:06 PM

That was Tyshawn Taylor. And, yes, this story is true.

Stark got what I was saying.

Will post it here since I missed the earlier thread. Gregg Doyle makes Skip Bayless look like Joe Posnanski.
April 6th, 2011 at 9:24 PM
cursed is definitely Skip Bayless. I am convinced.
April 6th, 2011 at 9:39 PM
Durant was a one and done and he’s done some good things.
I am talking about for the college.
April 6th, 2011 at 9:43 PM
Does Kevin Love count?
April 6th, 2011 at 9:43 PM
Isiah Thomas and Indiana.
April 6th, 2011 at 9:45 PM
That’s what I meant in my next comment KC. Texas finished third in the Big 12, won a game in the tourney. Obviously nowhere near Melo, but 3rd in the toughest conference at the time is pretty darn good.
April 6th, 2011 at 9:49 PM
Some observations tonight:
1. Theo Epstein should be mocked for signing Dennys Reyes and Dan Wheeler. They just imploded and allowed the Indians to score 4 more runs.
2. Cleveland’s pitching cannot be this good. They got blown out by Cleveland last week and they are shutting down Boston’s offense.
3. Did anyone else know that ESPN’s Steve Berthiaume and Cindy Brunson are married? Thank you wikipedia.
April 6th, 2011 at 9:51 PM
Isiah Thomas and Indiana.
85 years ago does not count.

I’ve been instructed by this website that only tourneys count. So, no.\

April 6th, 2011 at 9:51 PM
edit. Cleveland got blown out by Chicago. My typing tonight is as bad as Boston’s pitching right now.
April 6th, 2011 at 9:53 PM
Forgot about Kevin Love. I thought the original Isiah Thomas played 2 years at Indiana?

Perhaps the Tribe are just coming into their own? Fuck the Red Sox!
April 6th, 2011 at 10:31 PM
Isaiah and Magic were 2 and done guys, not 1 year.
Beauty that my Tribe is kicking the Sox ass. This is 3 good pitching performances in a row.
The Sawx look horrific. They are swinging at bad balls, not being patient and overall just plain suck through 5 games.
Break up the Tribe, baby!
April 6th, 2011 at 10:31 PM
The Tribe are on a WINNING streak!
April 6th, 2011 at 10:33 PM
Trader
Did not know that about Steve and Cindy. She is scary tho.
April 6th, 2011 at 10:43 PM
Magic was 1 and done for Michigan State – going way back
he left after his sophomore season
April 6th, 2011 at 10:51 PM
Aside from Adrian Gonzalez, it seems that the rest of the Sox are pressing. Lighten up boys! I understand losing to Texas with all their offense but losing to a bad Cleveland team is really puzzling.
April 7th, 2011 at 12:15 AM
Good. “The Duke way” is retarded bullshit, fuck it to fucking hell, and fuck anyone who believes that “the Duke way” is anything more than thinly veiled racist bullshit.

Bryan Allen can go DIAF. Damn him to hell! DAMN HIM TO HELL!
April 7th, 2011 at 8:10 AM
Oden/Conley/Cook made it to the Championship game, but since they didn’t win a Chip, technically they didn’t do jack shit.
April 7th, 2011 at 8:20 AM
technically they didn’t do jack shit.
the “never won anything” argument, bastard cousin of “RIIIIINGS.” Quality, for sure.
April 7th, 2011 at 8:22 AM
Oden/Conley/Cook made it to the Championship game,
I forgot to tell you that the system was flawed during that tournament, too. Playing games against other teams is no way to determine a champion. It’s too random, and anything can happen. That’s why I espouse voting for a champion in college basketball. That way the best team wins.
April 7th, 2011 at 8:25 AM

Well, only if Ohio State is clearly one of the best teams. I’m sure Cursed would want them to play in a tournament if they were seeded four or five.
April 7th, 2011 at 8:29 AM
I wish the NBA had adopted a one and done format back when Philly stole game 1 from LA. Mainly b/c fuck Kobe.
April 7th, 2011 at 8:33 AM
I’m sure Cursed would want them to play in a tournament if they were seeded four or five.
I’m sure he’d prefer they were just named champion, so he could get to gloating. No need for the games.
I think I’ve flip flopped on loving/hating Kobe at least 8 times. And besides Rusty, had that happened, your boy Allen Iverson would be even more “overrated” as you put it.
April 7th, 2011 at 8:34 AM
Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad, clay.
April 7th, 2011 at 8:35 AM

Agreed.
/AI stepping over Lue.
April 7th, 2011 at 8:49 AM
Yeah me too. I really should hate the guy for being all rapey and everything, but then I hear him do an interview where he’s all jokey and funny and I feel like he’s not so bad. Given the choice Im definitely team Kobe over team Lebron.
April 7th, 2011 at 10:18 AM
I think most Duke fans are disappointed we only got him for 11 games while having to deal with Felton and Lawson for 6 years, but we knew he was gone after the K-State game. But sure, Duke fans are disgusted, grrr one n dones, not the Duke way, Jennifer Taylor letter, lets ignore the other fanbases when they throw their pro defectors under the bus
April 7th, 2011 at 11:01 AM
Corey Maggette disagrees.
