Ballin’: Sacramento Kings Say Goodbye, Blake Griffin Ends Season with Nasty Dunk, Triple-Double
NBA, Video April 14th. 2011, 10:30amLA Lakers 116, Sacramento 108, OT: Not quite sure what Phil Jackson is thinking playing Kobe 38 minutes (36 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists) in a meaningless game … guess he just wanted to hand Sacramento a loss in its final game before moving to Anaheim. [Ed. Or, he'd rather play New Orleans than Portland.] The Kings announcers got emotional on their final sign off. It’s probably a tough time for Kings fans. Landon Donovan didn’t care. Don’t worry, it’s not all terrible – Donte Greene, who had star potential when he left Syracuse, had one of the best dunks of the night. It’s tucked after the jump.
Miami 97, Toronto 79: The Big 3 sat, Eddie House scored 35, and the ageless Juwan Howard added 18. If Howard scored his 18 against UNC rookie Ed Davis …
Memphis 103, LA Clippers 110: Why would you get in the way of a DeAndre Jordan dunk? Bad choice, Darrell Arthur. Blake Griffin capped a brilliant rookie season with a triple-double (31 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) and this wicked alley-oop dunk. I was clearly a year ahead thinking the Clippers and Wizards would make the playoffs. Next year, obviously. I’m foaming at the mouth thinking about Bledsoe-Gordon-a small forward to be named later-Griffin-Jordan. I just hope the season starts before January. Memphis lost its last two games and will open the playoffs against San Antonio.
Houston 121, Minnesota 102: My man Goran Dragic – 11 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists. I thought that was slightly more impressive than the career-high 35 points from Chase Budinger. Do you think if I played 10 minutes for the Wolves last night I would have scored a few baskets? I mean, Wayne Ellington didn’t score in eight minutes; but Anthony Randolph scored 23 (he’s topped 20 five times in the last 11 games).
Washington 93, Cleveland 100: If there’s such thing as a “smart” loss … this one was for the Wizards. It has draft implications, which we’ll get to later. The good news for Cleveland – Derrick Williams of Arizona has declared for the draft. That’s good news, you know, in case they don’t get the No. 1 pick (which would be Kyrie Irving).
Golden State 110, Portland 86: Dorrell Wright has quietly put together an impressive season. The Heat probably wish they hadn’t given up on him so early. Finally getting playing time, he’s producing: 16 points, 5 rebounds in 38 minutes a night. Harvard’s Jeremy Lin scored 12 points, collected five rebounds and dished out five assists in 23 minutes. If you’re wondering about Stephen Curry’s sophomore season – shot a little better from the field, 3 and line; scored a tad more, rebounds, steals a tad down. Assists even. No sophomore slump.
The second angle of this Earl Watson-to-Jeremy Evans alley-oop makes it look much more impressive. And no, I’ve never heard of Jeremy Evans. A quick scan of his bio tells me he went to Western Kentucky, is the school’s leader in blocked shots, and was a 2nd round draft pick.
I’m a sucker for a JR Smith reverse dunk. Can’t wait – Bart Scott voice – for Nuggets/Thunder.

GEE-NO-BILI got injured.
What’s with all these hyperextensions?
NO is gonna get run over like a bitch by the Lakers.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:33 AM
What a tool.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:34 AM
Also, though I believe he’s right to be fined for it given the circumstances, Kobe’s slur fiasco was blown way out of proportion.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:34 AM
I’d say wanting to win in order to play the Hornets and not the Blazers meant the game had some meaning
April 14th, 2011 at 10:34 AM
When does the 2nd round start?
April 14th, 2011 at 10:35 AM
The thing that I found funny about the whole incident was Kobe yelling out “BERNIE” for some reason, then saying the slur words under his own breath. What the hell was the point of screaming out Bernie then??
April 14th, 2011 at 10:36 AM
Who run Bartertown!?!??
April 14th, 2011 at 10:36 AM
I am so excited now that basketball season has started.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:37 AM
This. Dallas had already won, so if the Lakers lost, they would have to face Portland – I’m sure PJ knew of this and acted accordingly.
Portland is going to beat Dallas.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:37 AM
They will live to regret that decision. This is CP3′s nationally-televised audition for big-market glory.

April 14th, 2011 at 10:38 AM
Playoffs were more exciting when it was best of 5.
/ Raptors upset Knicks in 2001
April 14th, 2011 at 10:38 AM
Exactly. And home court for the 2nd round. Pretty important game last night.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:38 AM
go craboliers!
April 14th, 2011 at 10:39 AM
The URL for that Sac Bee story is very odd.

also…longtime cavs radio announcer joe tait (one of the best in the business) called his last game last night. loved joe tait…gonna miss his signature calls and his unmistakeable delivery.
tribute.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:40 AM
Did the Lakers have to use the refs to finish off the Kings again this time?
April 14th, 2011 at 10:40 AM
Ha! I’ve done that before. Dude who’s posting the stories online wanted to hurry up and get the hell outta there.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:41 AM
Potential second round match-up of Lakers vs. Dallas/Portland.
No more easy sweep of the Jazz as per 2008-1010.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:41 AM
That homeless guy is taking his place right?
April 14th, 2011 at 10:41 AM
What’s the Landon Donovan controversy? Twitpic is blocked at school.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:41 AM
Did the Lakers have to use the refs to finish off the Kings again this time?
LMAO. Not this time.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:43 AM
I thought it was because he was trying to get the ref’s attention to say something to him but the ref probably ignored him, which led to the fag remark.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:43 AM

April 14th, 2011 at 10:44 AM
Just some fan trash talking about the Queens losing to the Champs and hashtagged it with #seeyouinAnaheim…would have expected better decorum from the man responsible for the greatest sporting – if not human civilization – moment ever
April 14th, 2011 at 10:45 AM
Have a GOOD life everybody
April 14th, 2011 at 10:46 AM
The victory meant the two-time NBA champion Lakers are the second-seeded team in the West and will face the New Orleans Hornets in the first round of the playoffs beginning Sunday at Staples Center.
The Lakers won the season series against New Orleans, 4-0. Worse for the Hornets, they won’t have forward David West, who is out for the season after having left knee surgery.
The Lakers and Mavericks finished with identical 57-25 records, but L.A. had the tiebreaker over Dallas.

i used to like the fact that his last name is a nickname for breasts.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
im not gonna lie…that comment made it get a little dusty in here.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
Makes sense. Still think its stupid to single out verbal frustration in a elite-level sporting competition.
Hell, I swear a lot to myself even in pickup games when I’m frustrated – I really don’t think the uproar over this is very justified. People are WAY too sensitive nowadays. I feel the same way about those stupid little racial incidents that aren’t really crazy but guys like Sharpton blow them up for no reason other than to give themselves a reason to talk.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:51 AM
who the hell is landon Donovan?
April 14th, 2011 at 10:51 AM
anyone bet NBA the last couple nights? was afraid because of motivation/resting starters/teams not giving a shit
April 14th, 2011 at 10:51 AM
Isn’t Donovan from NorCal? Maybe he’s just had issues from being lifted from San Jose by LA?
They will live to regret that decision. This is CP3′s nationally-televised audition for big-market glory.
/delusional
At this point, I’m kind of fed up with everyone and their agent crapping on the Hornets. You know what, NBA? Contract this team so I can stop giving a crap about your league.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:52 AM
Shit. The Hornets’ home games against the Lakers are on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. I already know I won’t be able to go even if I wanted to. But hey, you have to guarantee that the Lakers get the Sunday game, right? And then everybody will complain that nobody goes to Hornets games.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:52 AM
Matthew Shepard would agree with this, if not for the whole dead thing.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:52 AM
I’m sure if you could have guaranteed them a Blazers win they would have viewed the game as meaningless…as it currently stands though they were smart to want to lock down home court in the second round
April 14th, 2011 at 10:53 AM
Pretty sure Memphis didn’t ,ind losing the last two games. They get to face the Spurs now. They won’t win the series but I can see them winning 2.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:54 AM
NO, then Portland/Dallas, then Spurs/OKC is a much easier path to the Finals than Portland first, Dallas second, and Spurs/OCK third.
Portland is tougher to beat for the Lakers than the Mavericks are and they would sweat like last year vs. the Thunder. The average margin of victory for the Lakers against the Hornets this season is in the double digits.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:54 AM
Joe Tait shilling for Pollata Ford > Joe Tait calling games for a 20 win Cavs team.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:54 AM
I would completely agree with you if the ‘swear’ was fuck, shit, or whatever. This is a completely different animal.
April 14th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
Dusty all around Cleveland Spencer. Really gonna miss him, always preferred him over any of the clowns doing the tv broadcast.
One of my favorite Joe Tait moments would be when he would complain about all the in-arena entertainment and all the hugs and hand pounds prior to tip. He haaaaated all that

Kobe was trying to get his attention, but the ref ignored him, thats why he said “fucking faggot”
April 14th, 2011 at 10:58 AM
We were spared the random draw for #1 overall with the Bulls clinching it last night…obviously doesn’t mean anything if they don’t get to the Finals but still a cool accomplishment after a decade of meh

Fuck ‘em, they want to copy and paste what they said yesterday and the day before that’s on them
April 14th, 2011 at 11:01 AM
My problem with it is that had the Gay Rights groups had not blown this up (they claimed that its a problem because “millions viewed it during the game”) in the first place, it would be a non-issue. It happened in an essentially meaningless game at an obscure time in the game. The moment lasted for about 3 seconds. Most people watching it would have seen a frustrated Kobe and moved on. Of course, in today’s world of 24/7 updates, someone grabbed a video, youtube’d it, and now the dude is being fined 100,000 (not saying its wrong though) for something he muttered under his breath out of frustration.
By criticizing Kobe for saying it, now they’ve morn interest in the kids who would NOT have seen the video. They’ll go on youtube, search the clip, and see what they never would have seen had it not been blown out of proportion.
April 14th, 2011 at 11:01 AM

since we are on the topic and i don;t want to be blindsided….yesterday i wondered where arvida sabonis was in TBL’s list of top 5 kings
April 14th, 2011 at 11:08 AM
Why is it shitty? I’m not saying this as a Kobe fan, I just fail to see how this is such a pressing issue in the grand scheme of things. It was a really obscure moment in the game, and no one would have really noticed it other than basketball nerds. When Martin called Cuban a “muhhhhfuckin faggot”, we just laughed and said he sounded a bit like Mike Tyson, yet this is a cause for uproar?

April 14th, 2011 at 11:11 AM
1. Webber
2. Jason Williams (his rookie year was one of the most flashiest I’ve ever seen)
3. Vlade Divac
4. Peja Stojacavic
5. Lawrence Funderburke

/there’s your reason
April 14th, 2011 at 11:13 AM
He only played for the Blazers.
April 14th, 2011 at 11:14 AM
No. And it won’t be because its 2011 and people can’t remember any story other than what happened this week. Now people are calling for Kobe’s head because they said his apology wasn’t “sincere” – the guy said he didn’t mean it as a way to put them down and that he supports LG choices…what more do you want?
April 14th, 2011 at 11:16 AM

1. Webber

That’s true. It’d annoy me regardless of who was being called out for it though. Anytime these stupid organizations come out of the woodworks and start releasing statements and demanding apologies over the smallest things, I get more annoyed. It’s like a bunch of flies buzzing around a turd.

Plus it would be a swerve from the writers. Everyone thinks they’re after Raylan (either due to Bennetts or to the Miami family) but they’re after Wynona all along and keep Raylan and her from running away.
April 14th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
well, when that gunman had his sights on winona in the factory thing, i just figured they were going after her. they were at the courthouse when they left, and having a tail like that wouldn’t be mags’ style.
