Gina Carano Was Going To Fight A Pregnant Woman
MMA, Strikeforce April 14th. 2011, 4:10pm
Gina Carano is preparing to return to mixed martial arts after taking two years (2 years!) off to start a movie career. (The picture is from the set of “Haywire.” That’s Ewan McGregor she’s tossing around the beach.) Looking for a worthy opponent for her return to the cage has been a slow process, but for a short time, Strikeforce thought they had found the right woman. Then she turned out to be pregnant.
Cindy “Battlecat” Dandois was in negotiations with Strikeforce to become Carano’s comeback opponent. On March 19th, Dandois won her fifth professional fight. Then she found out she was 3 months pregnant. She will not be fighting again until after the baby is born. Luckily, the baby wasn’t harmed during the fight. (If that’s not a good enough reason to add pregnancy tests to the pre-fight medical exams for women’s MMA, there isn’t one.)
So the quest for Carano’s next opponent continues. Meanwhile, she’s in the gym trying to work off that Hollywood-action-star weight. Her movie has no real release date and went through reshoots last month. Don’t worry though, I’m sure it will be in the discount DVD bins before you even have a chance to miss it.

Traffic was 2000. Ocean’s 11 was 2001. Out of Sight, which is criminally overlooked in his reportoire–but I guess that’s bound to happen when you make movies like Traffic and Ocean’s 11 after–was in ’98.
So the question should be, what has he done since Ocean’s 11, besides 12 and 13? Sanders, care to field this one?

I have seen that girl fight more than once. She’s not an “expert” at anything other than not making weight, and fighting lesser opponents.
She got uglied up by Cyborg and that was the last we saw of her. Until this wetsuit thing. Looks like making weight is still not her thing.

Haha. I used to do those amateur fight nights in high school and in college. I had a little boxing training but not a ton. One night I went up against a guy who had a lot of training, I even had 30 pounds on him, and he busted my eyes up pretty good. He didn’t knock me out, but he sure as hell knocked me down three times in the second round.

yeah, i have no such experience. A long, long time ago I took a 1/2 semester boxing class at military school. It was pretty intense, although we mostly sparred. When the fighting came, I found I could take a punch pretty good. And deliver OK. This chick would kill me, honestly. I’m just joshing around.

The training is so key. I was a sprinter in high school and briefly in college so I was alright for the first round, though I couldn’t go punch for punch with this dude’s quickness. Come the second round – gassed. Training for track and training for boxing, not alike at all. I started dropping my hands and he just strafed my face. Luckily, most of the dudes who do those fight night things were just adrenaline junkies like myself and not trained boxers. Makes you feel even worse for Brad from the Real World for picking a fight with Darrell.

Everybody in the “class” fought conventional, even the left handed discus thrower. I fought him, and he landed a punch out of absolutely nowhere, a big ugly hook to the earhole. I stayed standing, but was pretty unhappy from there on out in that one.
