Ballin’: Heat Cruise to 2-0 Lead Over Celtics; Zach Randolph Proves He’s Human (2-for-13)
NBA, Video May 4th. 2011, 10:00amBoston 91, Miami 102: Series over? Dwyane Wade scored 18 of his 28 during a dominant first half, and when Boston made a run in the third quarter, LeBron went off – 24 of his 35 came in the 2nd half – and the Heat recorded their second surprisingly-easy victory of the reeling Celtics. The game was tied at 80 early in the fourth quarter before the Heat peeled off 14 points in a row. It looks bleak for Boston.
The Heat look like sleek sports cars out there in the open floor, racing for layups and dunks; the Celtics can’t seem to push tempo even when Rondo wants to, and their halfcourt offense is clunky against an underrated Miami defense. Everyone’s saying the Heat are tougher, and surely that will eventually turn the discussion to the lack of Shaq or Kendrick Perkins inside. Pierce, Rondo and Allen are all banged up, but they’ve got three days before game three. I’m not sure if it’ll matter even if they are 100%. Dan Shaughnessy is ready to pass the torch from Boston to Miami in the East.
Memphis 102, Oklahoma City 111: The Thunder bench got the memo and was fantastic in game 2, led by James Harden’s 21 points, a season-high 15 points from Eric Maynor, and 7 points, 7 rebounds and terrific defense from Nick Collison.
The Thunder played significantly better defense against Zach Randolph (2-for-13) and Marc Gasol (3-for-9), who combined for 54 points Sunday, but scored just 28 last night. Much of the credit goes to Perkins (on Gasol) and Collison (on Randolph). Russell Westbrook played under control (24 points, three steals and only four turnovers), and even though Mike Conley had another strong game for the Grizzlies, (24 points, eight assists), the Thunder offense was much smoother (52 percent shooting) than the game one debacle.
For the moment, it doesn’t look like the Grizzlies will waltz into the Western Conference Finals (whew). I smell a 40+ point game from Durant in game three to steal back homecourt advantage.

Based on your recap, it looks like the Celtics are doing exactly what Doc told them not to. They can’t win an athletic competition. Make the extra pass and force the Heat to work harder on defense. Can only hope the Celtics take care of business at home and LeBron gives up in Game 5 again.
Oh, and go Grizz.

Series over?
Series over

I heard Russell Westbrook completely botched a dunk last night too. Bubba or Jose not able to get video of that?
May 4th, 2011 at 10:06 AM
And let’s hope the Boston Globe is ready to pass the torch to a sports writer who actually enjoys sports.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:06 AM
Celtics are done, over 50% from deep in both games, still losing.
Hopefully Kobe doesnt bitch out before the Finals, because he’s got a LeBron beatdown coming.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:09 AM
is everyone mentally prepared for the heat to be champion? given the angst of last summer, early season?
May 4th, 2011 at 10:11 AM
Sheeeet, that And 1 ball may fly against Leastern Conference geezers, but it’s a whole different story against the Bestern Conference teams.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:12 AM
I thought a series didnt start till the home team lost
May 4th, 2011 at 10:12 AM
Never say never. LBJ’s mom could always sleep with Mike Bibby in the next few days.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:14 AM
Again, the series isn’t over. It’s just starting. If Boston loses a home game, then we’ll talk. Miami (and more importantly James) had a great run late, but that game was close from start to finish.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:16 AM
Bibby AND Eddie House. Some brother-in-law double team!
We’ll see how Miami does against a team with good big men. Sadly, my Celtics do not have a good pure big man right now. I’ve also given up on Glen Davis. He was good for a couple years but regressed a lot this year on the offensive end.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:16 AM
I hope so, but I’m not counting Boston out, yet.

i thought him slipping it in the butt of a passed out chick and then rolling over and going to sleep when she wakes up and gets pissed proved he was human.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:18 AM
The celtics have to win 4 out of 5, including one miami, with an aging lineup that isn’t getting any stronger as the playoffs go on. It’s over.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:18 AM
Speaking from experience with columbus broads?

i thought him slipping it in the butt of a passed out chick and then rolling over and going to sleep when she wakes up and gets pissed proved he was human.
That scenario is something my friends and I like to call the American Dream.

Lucky for them their aging bodies get a week off in between games to recuperate

Well this comment is the kiss of death for LeBron. Glad someone said it.

I just found a bag of Easter candy that that got lost in the shuffle of the pantry. VICTORY.

How many analysts/experts predicted a 2-0 heat lead with most of the boston stars crapping the bed? Many narratives are being rewritten this round.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:29 AM
seriously? is that true?
May 4th, 2011 at 10:30 AM
I won’t rush to say the Celtics are out until they are down 0-3. They just haven’t played well. I still think at some point, they’ll figure out how to go on some type of crazy run during a game. Miami looks REALLY good but there were some points where you I ask myself in the past two games “How are they not blowing these guys out?”
May 4th, 2011 at 10:30 AM
seriously? is that true?
Which part? The part about that act proving you’re human or that Zach Randolph actually did that? I’m going to go out on a limb and say spence was being sarcastic.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:31 AM
Funny how there hasn’t been much “tough guy KG” this series. Wonder where that guy went.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:31 AM
It’s like breaking out the winter coat when the weather turns and finding $10 in the pocket…sure it was yours the whole time but it still feels like you’re up on the day
May 4th, 2011 at 10:32 AM
the part about Randolph actually doing that. when did that happen? that’s very Jerramy Stevens-ish.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:34 AM
zach randolph ALLEGEDLY did what i mentioned above multiple times.

Oh. Well then. I stand corrected. Carry on.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:39 AM
Seems like a nice enough guy.

Certainly, a player to root for.
he allegedly did that multiple times?

best feel good story of the playoffs.

Who hasn’t paid one of their friends $500 to perform a sex show with another female and then tried to get a little back door action after they’re passed out? Sounds like a typical Tuesday night for me.

Z-Bo is quite generous. And the gift that keeps on giving.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:47 AM
Also, I’m shocked that those rather explicit details were allowed to be printed in a story on ESPN.com.
May 4th, 2011 at 10:54 AM
But does he read the bible? Because then I might root for him.
Quiet day for ballin, LeBron dominating keeps the crazies away.

Anybody else fascinated by the Simmons comparison of Avon/Stringer’s relationship on The Wire to Westbrook/Durant battling for Alpha Dog of the Thunder?
On The Dan Patrick show this morning, they did an interesting comparison with Pippen/Jordan and Westbrook/Durant that made me feel like Westbrook/Durant will not be feuding anytime soon. Out of 376 playoff games played together, Pippen took more shots than Jordan 41 times, or about 10%. I would have guessed much less than that….
May 4th, 2011 at 11:59 AM
Miami doesn’t have to win a game in Boston to win this series. Miami has looked like the superior team these first two games, and I don’t see enough from Boston that tells me that the magic of being in Boston is going to change that.
May 4th, 2011 at 12:00 PM
nope
May 4th, 2011 at 12:28 PM
I am fascinated by entertaining playoff basketball. Hackneyed pop culture/sports analogies don’t do much for me.
May 4th, 2011 at 12:33 PM
TST certainly wasn’t fascinated with it on the Twitter box last night.
