MMA Roundup: Dan Severn & The World’s Strongest Man Lost, Cris Cyborg Can’t Get A Fight
MMA, Strikeforce, UFC May 23rd. 2011, 5:30pm
Kelli Hutcherson is one of Strikeforce’s ring girls. She is currently being featured on Maxim.com (NSFWish) and likely in their latest magazine which you can buy at the airport if you’re really bored and have a flight delay. I mean, if you’re going to buy a magazine, make sure it’s one that refers to Matthew McConaughey as “Hollywood’s dopest hunk.”
Cris Cyborg can’t get a fight. She’s the 145-pound women’s Strikeforce champion and she hasn’t fought in a year. With Strikeforce now being run by Zuffa, who knows when or if she will fight again for the promotion. It’s kind of a positive sign that Gina Carano has a fight coming up, but that might be the exception instead of the rule. [Cage Potato]
Mariusz Pudzianowski lost to James Thompson by submission this weekend in his home country of Poland. You’ll remember Pudzianowski as the former World’s Strongest Man and James Thompson as the can who had his ear exploded by Kimbo. [Sherdog]
Christian M’Pumbu’s KO of Richard Hale at Bellator 51
With the win, M’Pumbu becomes the new Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion. M’Pumbu is now 18-3-1 after winning three tournament fights by TKO in just under two months.
Dan Severn Lost In His Second Attempt At 100 Wins
Lee “The Beast” Beane defeated Dan “The Beast” Severn this weekend in Severn’s second attempt at his 100th career victory. The action starts at the 4:55 mark, but if you play it from the beginning you’ll be treated to Severn walking out to some old-school Sevendust. I feel like they’re the band that should have been a kindred musical spirit with MMA, but they were never shitty enough. Wait. Severn. Sevendust. Severndust. Woah.

Link is broken but I can only hope it was written by young Jason in his magazine says.

Nothing on MMA allegedly being legal in New York? (it’s not…but it was passed in the state senate by a decisive margin). Still will be a LONG uphill battle to get it to vote in the assembly though.

They really are poets over there.
