An NBA Mock Draft Where Derrick Williams Doesn’t Go 2nd
NBA Draft May 30th. 2011, 1:00pm
This week’s NBA mock draft comes courtesy of Steve Kyler at Hoops World.
1 Cleveland (From LA Clippers) – Kyrie Irving, Duke…..The top overall prospect. Amazing quickness and speed.
2 Minnesota – Jonas Valanciunas, Lithuania…..Considered the best NBA center prospect. Dominating pick and roll player.
3 Utah (From New Jersey) – Derrick Williams, Arizona…..A very polished and skilled player. Arguably the most NBA-ready prospect in the class.
4 Cleveland – Enes Kanter, Turkey…..Big, strong and physical. Very polished player.
5 Toronto – Brandon Knight, Kentucky…..High basketball IQ. Versatile. Scores the ball extremely well.
6 Washington – Kawhi Leonard, San Diego State…..Big, strong and physical. Great defender. Enormous hands. Strong post-player.
7 Sacramento - Marcus Morris, Kansas…..Tough and physical player. Good quickness for his size.
8 Detroit – Bismack Biyombo, Congo…..Extremely athletic and versatile. A little unknown, but extreme upside.
9 Charlotte – Kemba Walker, Connecticut…..High energy scorer. High basketball IQ. A touch undersized for his game.
10 Milwaukee – Alec Burks, Colorado…..Great in the open floor. Solid mid-range player. Best shooting guard prospect in the class.
11 Golden State – Nikola Mirotic, Montenegro…..Decent size. Ability to score from the paint and the perimeter. Big with a prototypical NBA frame.
12 Utah – Jimmer Fredette, Brigham Young…..Excellent shooter. Hard-nosed and poised. Suspect defender. A little under sized for his game.
13 Phoenix – Chris Singleton, Florida State…..Arguably the best all-around athlete in the class. Can defend four NBA positions.
14 Houston – Donatas Motiejunas, Lithuania…..Terrific hands, touch and footwork. Not a great post player. Big and long.
15 Indiana – Malcolm Lee, UCLA…..UCLA guards tend to play out of position. Lee is a point guard in the NBA and has improved his shooting form, hitting shots with great consistency.
16 Philadelphia – Markieff Morris, Kansas…..Very versatile. A step slower than his twin brother Marcus. Taller and heavier.
17 New York – Josh Selby, Kansas…..Amazing athlete with a really dynamic game and personality. A little raw, but a solid NBA prospect.
18 Washington (From Atlanta) – Iman Shumpert, Georgia Tech…..Long and versatile guard that can play both guard positions. Decent defender with a dynamic offensive game.
19 Charlotte (From New Orleans via Portland) – Tobias Harris, Tennessee…..Excellent feel for the game. Big and strong. Great maturity and unselfish as a player.
20 Minnesota (From Memphis via Utah) – Jan Vesely, Czech Republic…..Extremely athletic. Long and physical. Suspect shooter.
21 Portland – Kenneth Faried, Morehead State…..Arguably the toughest player in the draft class. Strong, hustle energy player. Good rebounder. Tough Defender.
22 Denver – Jordan Hamilton, Texas…..Solid scorer with good basketball instincts. Plays above the rim.
23 Houston (From Orlando via Phoenix) – Nikola Vucevic, UCLA…..Tallest player in the draft. Good touch and feel for the game.
24 Oklahoma City – Tristan Thompson, Texas…..Quick and explosive around the basket. Solid frame and build. Decent skill level.
25 Boston – Nolan Smith, Duke…..Solid and dependable floor general. Knows how to run a team. Not the best athlete of the bunch, but clearly one of the more poised players in the class.
26 Dallas – Darius Morris, Michigan…..Big athletic guard that can play both guards spots. A little raw, but had tremendous upside.
27 New Jersey (from LA Lakers) – Klay Thompson, Washington State…..Solid shooter. Big and Long. Dynamic as a scorer with an array of tools.
28 Chicago (From Miami via Toronto) – Jimmy Butler, Marquette…..Long and wiry forward that can shoot out to NBA three point line. Won Portsmouth Tournament MVP and is a decent defender.
29 San Antonio – Lucas Nogueira, Brazil…..Very raw, but with extreme upside. Good feel for the game. Will take time to develop into a NBA player.
30 Chicago – Jon Leur, Wisconsin…..Big NBA body. Has nice touch with decent range on jump shot.

Cavs should take Williams 1st and Brandon Knight 4th

I call shenanigans on this mock draft, as only 3 of the players are described as having “upside,” and 25 of them are apparently not “long”

We’ll take Burks, thank you

Won Portsmouth Tournament MVP and is a decent defender.
ooh, la la. I won the spelling bee in the fifth grade.

All fine and dandy but I don’t think Knight would get past Utah.

You know who was long? Greg Oden.

I need to see more of Malcolm Lee. people like the guy, but just like Jrue Holiday, i saw nothing great from him at UCLA.
Holiday, of course, looks like a keeper …

I have no idea who this is but if he is the best athlete in the draft I’ll take it.

every single NBA draft leadup, at least twice, my dad calls me because he can’t stop laughing about Jay Bilas, who one time described a guy has having extremely long length.
It’s like me with the Dick Vitale/piss thing. He can’t stop laughing about it.

I watched the NBA Draft Combine last week. By far the worst waste of a couple hours that I spent recently and I saw The Hangover II.

See no reason why the Pacers would spend their 1st rd pick on a PG. None.
May 30th, 2011 at 2:04 PM
Didn’t I see that he bench pressed 180 lbs only 3 times at the combine? That is 7 less than Kyle Singler. Big and physical, sure, strong…not so much.

He’s as strong as an NBA SF needs to be. His ceiling is a less athletic/more skilled Gerald Wallace, he’s gonna be solid

If I’m the Knicks, Nolan Smith isn’t getting past my slot.
