Winnipeg Has a Hockey Team Again
The Atlanta Thrashers are moving to Winnipeg where they will presumably become the Winnipeg Jets. The original Jets left for Phoenix after the 1996 season. The people of Manitoba are elated to have a team back in Winnipeg where the white out was born in 1987. If you were wondering where Miami got the idea for half-full crowds of people dressed in white, thank Winnipeg.
Winnipeg’s history in the NHL is so strong that this TSN Top 10 Moments in Jets history features mid-90’s rallies to save the team. They had a couple goal-scorers, but the tradition doesn’t exactly seem that rich. The Jets never won a division or conference title during their time in the NHL. They did however win 3 Avco World Trophies in the 1970’s when they were still in the WHA. Hey, at least they had a sweet logo, right?
The fans in Atlanta are not taking this very well. Despite the sparse crowds, the Thrashers were loved by some. Heck, they even managed to get Danny Heatley on the cover of NHL ’04.
