Roy Williams Proposed To Former Miss Texas Via US Postal Service
Baseball, College Athletics, Legal, NFL, What the hell is wrong with people July 6th. 2011, 6:30pm
Roy Williams Jr. of the Cowboys lived with former Miss Texas, Brooke Daniels for about a year. In February, he went all out and bought Daniels a $76,000 ring.
He claims he sent $5,000 for school and dental bills, a baseball for Daniels’ brother and — as a surprise — a recorded marriage proposal with the ring through the mail just before Valentine’s Day to Daniels.
I would have done it in person, but I’m old fashioned. Daniels has not returned the ring, thus, Williams has filed a lawsuit.
But wait, it gets better (or worse if you’re Williams) – Daniels is now dating University of Houston baseball player David Murphy.

I once gave the brother of an ex-girlfried a basketball for his birthday. Should I sue to get that back?

Atleast he didn’t propose through a dong picture.

Was it worth $5,000?
July 6th, 2011 at 6:45 PM
Seriously. What the fuck is planking? And why does anyone give a shit about it?

I swear to holy god if someone thinks she is ugly because of a forehead…….
July 6th, 2011 at 6:45 PM
Basically what I got from this is that Roy Williams doesn’t know a damn thing about women.
July 6th, 2011 at 6:46 PM
Not sure about the forehead, but she definitely has a case of the crazy eyes.
July 6th, 2011 at 6:46 PM

Oh, hell no. Was the baseball worth $5000 or did I misread something? How the hell is a baseball worth $5000? Why do dogs go in circles before they lay down?

Anyhow, I thought it odd that a baseball was included on his gift list. I’d be asking for the silicone back.
July 6th, 2011 at 6:48 PM
More evidence for my theory that TBL takes ESPN links (which I mentioned this morning) and finds a different source to get the story from.
July 6th, 2011 at 6:49 PM
Oh, hell no. Was the baseball worth $5000 or did I misread something? How the hell is a baseball worth $5000?
My mistake, it was part of the gift set, which included $5k and the ring/proposal.
Nonetheless, Roy Williams clearly knows nothing about women. He will be broke within two years of leaving football.
July 6th, 2011 at 6:49 PM

Not sure about the forehead, but she definitely has a case of the crazy eyes.
I googled her earlier and she is a typical hot ass blonde Texas chick. She may be bald in twenty years, but that is not affecting my admiration of her gold digging. I like how she has her father involved with this. Just classic comedy going on here.

I haven’t seen other pictures, but she doesn’t look very attractive nor stable in that one.

The way the Padres have owned the Giants the last couple years you might want to make that 3 or 12.

July 6th, 2011 at 7:08 PM
MS… rooting for Houston tonight btw, got Norris throwing for me.
Same here on both counts.
Norris is a strikeout machine, but has the power pitcher habit of leaving things out over the plate, especially later in games. The bullpen basically lost his last start against Boston. He had their lineup completely guessing. Mills left him in too long though and he let a few runners get on base. And the bullpen couldn’t get out of it.

Don’t even get me started on that one, I needed that W…
July 6th, 2011 at 7:09 PM
I knew it had to be something like that. Every time I have seen a series of those two the last two years the Padres were always taking them. I am hoping that Kevin Towers plans on bringing that same ability to Arizona.

And CRM is correct. Unless you’re Diamond Joe Quimby, a beauty pageant contestant, or President of a South American country, then you don’t see sashes much anymore.
July 6th, 2011 at 7:14 PM
I only knew because they brought it up this morning on the radio. All they gotta do is take these last two to split the series and they’re back at 10 games back. They were saying the that Pads have these two games left, then 3 in LA and then 4 more at home against SF. So this next week can really determine if they’re still in the race or totally wiped out.

Unless I’m dealing with chainsaws or woodchippers, I don’t allow manual labor to interfer with my afterwork drinking. If I wait until after dinner with all the hickory trees I have in the low part of the yard, the shade is properly aligned for me to strap on my ipod and mow. It is a Drive-By Truckers mowing evening for me. It all goes by rather quickly and then I’m all good.

The law is clear on this one. If she didn’t accept the proposal or backed out, she has to give it back. ESPN reported she first claimed it was lost so he filed a police report and an insurance claim. The insurance company investigated and determined that it was not lost.

I really don’t think he cares that much. I get the impression that those of us that actually comment represent a small minority of the site visitors. As good an explanation as any I’ve seen. I think he likes when there is stuff for the commenters to talk about, certainly (we’ve all seen TBL troll his own site to get the arguments up). What baffles me is when he does stuff like this and then reacts by calling Butters a clown (the highest compliment for a TBL commenter) when he’s obviously looking for that type of reaction.

July 6th, 2011 at 8:01 PM
I’ll go ahead and say it: TBL’s arbitrary banning of some commenter IP addresses, while not common, is still almost as bad as Deadspin’s ‘try out’ system.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:03 PM
Has Grantland announced what they are going to do, if anything, in regards to commenters?
July 6th, 2011 at 8:04 PM
Ya can’t blame TBL though…he’s paid to generate page views, and most people could care less about the comments; they come for the content. So yeah, he pretty much doesn’t care about who’s banned, simply because he doesn’t have to due to his other responsibilities.
People being banned only affect what, 60-70 people who comment on here regularly? If TBL gets 16, 000 unique visitors a month (I think that’s the number), its an irrelevant issue to worry about quite frankly.

Deadspin has a tryout system?
As I understand it, all initial comments are moderated. Someone decides if it’s funny (though clearly not whether or not it’s germane to the topic at hand) and if it is they let it post. Once you do this enough times in a row and don’t mess too much with the other piglets feeding at the Leitchless teet, then you become a starred commenter and your comments can post without moderation.

July 6th, 2011 at 8:11 PM
That’s one teat I don’t want to get near.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:12 PM
Deadspin has a tryout system?
I emailed them a couple years ago about “how to comment” and got something along these lines: “tell us why you’d be a quality commenter.” At first I thought I was dealing with a bunch of sarcastic assholes who just didn’t want new people. Then I realized they are just a bunch of smug assholes.

I apparently have internet enemies? Whatevs.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:16 PM
This makes me want to cry
July 6th, 2011 at 8:16 PM
Does anyone know where I can download/stream obscure sports documentaries? I’ve been looking on the interwebs for this Fresno ST basketball one, “Between the Madness” for like 4 days

They are usually the easiest type of enemy to defeat.

You were my enemy a long while ago. We’re okay now, except for that faggy Yankee stink you have.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:17 PM
That is weird. Not sure I like it, but I bet it is for TV purposes.
I have played 2-7 triple draw online and loved it. I am kinda decent at the stud games (and Razz) and competent in omaha hi/lo, though I make an effort to take my time at that because its so easy to lose at that. Hold em is my bread and butter.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:18 PM

I was under the impression the pork products were the only enemy you were concerned about. And Nair.

I’m eating bourbon bacon right now, ms. Working in a hospital has provided health insurance that I was never privy to before and I am fully medicated and on the way to recovery for that issue. Not gonna lie… it’s pretty sweet. I love to eat, so I’m genuinely thrilled about these developments.
I have a Nair story about a friend in college. You guys let me know if I should save it for the Roundup. I actually shared a couple goodies in the e-mail thread about the TBL-GA trip. One involves sex lube and a can opener. The other involves a 2 inch scar on my right hand that was obtained escaping a “House Mom” in a sorority house via a window.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:22 PM
If I didn’t have to rely on you as one of my hockey “experts” I’d hate your ass for that damn Jeter slobbering too.

I’m eating bourbon bacon right now, ms.
That sounds ridiculous…ly awesome.
I’ll take a case and the chipwich you still owe me.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:23 PM
There’s HORSE freerolls online where I play, which is just nice to try and get better at the other games, like you, Hold’em is what I’m good at. Badugi is kind of fun to play too, but I don’t know of anywhere to play it.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:23 PM
i fucking swear..my computer has ran worse since i installed a new norton.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:24 PM
You do have some quality stories, that’s for sure.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:25 PM
Poker Stars has tables of that, both free and pay. That’s a fun game, I just recently got into it. I only play free poker online nowadays, money only gets played in person.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:25 PM
i fucking swear..my computer has ran worse since i installed a new norton.
I just installed the new Norton too and my laptop is running much better. I had problems installing it though so I had to contact their helpline to get an Asian to remote install it for me. It was a little weird to see someone else controlling my computer from another continent, but he/she got it done inside of half an hour and got around the problem I kept running into.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:25 PM
Awww… I just wanted so bad for you to hit it off with that new girl that moved in down the hall a while back. I started that one, so it’s my fault. We’re all good now. I’ve taken a fair amount of crap in the comment section over the years but enemies/nemesis? Pffffft. You guys keep me sane during the work day when I’m bored/having a crappy day.
That Yankee stank ain’t going away though. I’m on Jeter 3K Watch right now. He’s 0-fer

I think it’s about time I explore trade possibilities for Mrs. Werthless…
July 6th, 2011 at 8:26 PM
Always happened to me, then I realized I’m smart enough to not do anything that gets viruses, or at least the ones that don’t hurt the computer, so canned the protection shit.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:27 PM
Vlad used to send me trade proposals constantly, but he’s quit doing so since I’ve rejected every single one.
That Edwin Jackson was in the first three proposals he sent gave me pause. To his credit, I nearly accepted one of them.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:27 PM
Chief: I would love to play HORSE or 8 game in a live setting. I have found a cheap place locally, though I really haven’t looked hard. Someday maybe at WSOP.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:29 PM
It’s because I really am as careless as I seem. When you let those inhibitions go and your only goal is to have some fun, good things happen. Took me a while to figure that out. Vanity sucks.
That’s why I want JPQ back. We share a similar outlook. You can sleep when you’re dead, have fun now.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:29 PM
I had a friend that would literally fill up his trade quota (like 5 or 6 outstanding at once) and just submit a new one every time someone rejected it, it was borderline annoying but the trades were always so amusing that it was fun to see what he was offering next.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:30 PM
I never got into online card playing. Probably would have lost a lot of money. Gambling is a risk I’ve never been able to weigh very well. You guys that make good money off it have a good thing going. I occasionally take football picks from you guys, that’s about it.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:30 PM
I put $30-40 in once a month, albeit, my only options now are Carbon or Cake, and recently got 2nd and 3rd in two tournaments for a combined 550 bucks. Withdrew $515 (15 goes to Carbon) and am still playing with the left over.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:31 PM
I’ve been trying to deal Hart and a pitcher (Kuroda/Norris/Oganda) for a better OF, but haven’t had any bites.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:31 PM
I’m rather surprised how many of you guys have PCs at home. Once I used an Apple, there was no turning back.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:33 PM
I’ve got no computer at home, just my phone. Sometimes I use my girl’s laptop when she’s around but otherwise I just come around during work hours. I’ve tried coming here on the phone, but just don’t like it. I live on my Yahoo fantasy baseball app and Sportacular.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:34 PM
For me, it’s out of spite. A lot of people I know are smug assholes over their Mac. I don’t want to turn into one of those.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:35 PM
I use a PC at work, and grew up on them. The only Apple I have is my phone.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:36 PM
I’m considering a Mac for my next computer. I’m getting pretty sick of the shit that PC’s make you go through. And now that I’ve been exposed to how Apple operating system’s work through my iPhone, I’m not scurred of the switch over anymore.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:36 PM
Tom: I’d love to play more in live settings, only two options I know are Treasure Island and Mystic Lake casinos, but I’m solely a tournament guy. I can’t play cash games for shit, I’ve tried many times, but it just won’t work out.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:38 PM
I’ve found I’m the opposite. My style is more passive so the cash games allow me to wait out more hands and pick my sports easier without those constantly rising blinds. Best tournament I’ve played (minus local games with friends) was finishing 3rd in a $40 limit tourney and took home $500. That’s also my only place in the money in a live tourney too, haha.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:39 PM
For me, it’s out of spite.
I was/am the same way. A lot of the proprietary bullshit Apple puts you through is preposterous. (Wtf is the mini-DVI shit that they’ve got instead of just having an HDMI port? It’d be a little better if they’d just admit that was an aesthetic choice instead of claiming it’s somehow a quality issue. Fuck you, Jobs, I bought my knockoff cables on amazon.) I got a new macbook for my birthday, though, and it really is a better overall experience than my previous computers (all PCs). Some stuff really is better on a PC but overall the Mac wins easily
July 6th, 2011 at 8:41 PM
You see the thing I have never understood..was say that you owe a bookie a lot of money and say he blows one of your toes off….You still owe him the money. Doesn’t seem fair to me.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:41 PM
You can sleep when you’re dead
I’ve been saying that for years. Want that on my tombstone.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:43 PM
Some stuff really is better on a PC but overall the Mac wins easily
Yeah, the number of times I’ve had a PC crap out or seen one crap out is staggering. Rarely has happened with my Mac. Yeah, I’m kinda pissed that PCs get nearly all the good software, etc.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:43 PM
SC, you watching the Cubs game? Just curious how loud the boos are for Werth right now, and I’m sure they’ll get louder if he fucks up this 2 on, 0 out right now…
July 6th, 2011 at 8:44 PM
Randy Wells is a AAA pitcher. Not even out of the 5th. Cubs have serious back-end of the rotation issues. Might be more glaring than their offensive needs. There’s a reason they haven’t won 3 in a row. It’s because the 4th and 5th starter spots this season have combined for FOUR FUCKING WINS.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:45 PM
I guess you are… hahaha
July 6th, 2011 at 8:45 PM
I have it on, but not particularly paying attention to crowd noise. I didn’t notice any boos, but again, not really paying attention.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:46 PM
I triple boot Windows, Snow Leopard, and Linux. I rarely use Mac or Ubuntu though, really only use Windows.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:47 PM
They were mentioning it on SportsCenter last night, that’s why I ask. That and the fact that he’s the only Nationals hitter without a hit in this game…

July 6th, 2011 at 8:52 PM
re: the bourbon bacon
I got it from a butcher that my barber turned me on to about a month ago. This place is amazing. They sell elk, ostrich, buffalo, venison, moose and their specialty is sausage. It used to be German owned, this the sausage thing. I bought 6 different kinds of brats from the place when I first went there. Cheddarwurst, Sheboygan, Chorizo, Andouille, Veal, and Tomato Basil. They were all fantastic. They also sell jerky that isn’t like your standard stuff that is tough and whatnot. It’s like eating a slice of rare steak that has been salted and cured.
Here’s the link. It’s the only place I buy my meat from now. Only took 2 weeks for them to learn my name.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:53 PM
Oh, and the veal brats… it was like eating a bratwurst that was made out of a stick of butter. So rich, so filling. Almost too much even.
July 6th, 2011 at 8:55 PM
See? Hughes’ fault. Fuck Hughes.

Fear the Astros offense. Fear it.
/High fives myself for being a Pence owner.

Wait, wait, wait. Weren’t you the one that was bitching about how you don’t want any talk while getting a haircut? Do the job, then run out of there?
July 6th, 2011 at 8:59 PM
I sure was. He managed to cut my hair, tell me about this butcher shop, a place to take my parents for Father’s Day dinner, a bakery I need to try AND an additional sausage shop all in the span of 14 minutes. I gave him $20 for a $14 service.

I can’t stand having a stranger cut my hair. My wife does it just fine, and I can save $15 every 4-6 weeks.

Texans, I just wanted to see how long your 4-5 posts would stick there.

July 6th, 2011 at 9:19 PM
Cubs are tied at 4 in the 7th. Soriano leads off with a walk. Barney is next, he’s the 8 hitter. Quade puts the bunt sign on and Barney gets it down.
How many of you agree with him putting on the bunt? Yes, there’s a pinch hitter at the plate right now. 1 out.
July 6th, 2011 at 9:20 PM
Ummmm…not touching this, but considering how terrible the Cubs are, it’s worth a shot.
July 6th, 2011 at 9:21 PM
The pinch hitter is Blake DeWitt if you’re wondering. He just lined into a double play.
July 6th, 2011 at 9:21 PM
Who’s the PH?
July 6th, 2011 at 9:21 PM
I think the bunt was dumber than the Herschel Walker trade for the record. I’d rather have Billy Heywood managing this team than Mike Quade.
July 6th, 2011 at 9:23 PM
Oh, then I hate the bunt.
/Not really
//It’s an okay play, though I’m a fan of letting a guy hit in a tie game.

July 6th, 2011 at 9:28 PM
