Listen to New Indiana Football Coach Kevin Wilson Make Fun of a Couple Radio Clowns
College Football, Media Gossip/Musings, Video August 11th. 2011, 12:02pm
Who knew that in addition to being an offensive mastermind – he was the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma the last four years – Indiana’s new head coach, Kevin Wilson, was a comedian? While Wilson was waiting on hold to appear on the Zakk and Jack radio show on 1260 WNDE Wednesday, the hosts took a couple shots at Indiana, a program known for its futility.
Wilson, whose voice was shot to begin with, came out firing (listen to the interview here). When asked what he’s been up to, Wilson barked, “we’re yelling at media guys, they don’t have a clue.” Caught off guard, the hosts laughed it off and Wilson said, “I got some things to do guys, what do you guys need?” I can envision the hosts looking at each puzzled. Wilson: “How can I help you guys?”
The discussion quickly goes nowhere and Wilson lets them have it: “I don’t like being on hold while guys crack jokes about our program.” You can barely hear Wilson the rest of the way, and for all I know, he hung up. The radio hosts claim to hang up on Wilson, and then, feeling empowered, blast the coach: “That guy’s an ass! I’m sad my kid is going there … I’m going to call Ron Zook and tell them to pound Indiana.”
Here’s video of the two radio guys defending themselves after the interview.
Indiana football fans haven’t had much to cheer about since Antwaan Randle-El left over a decade ago … but Wilson’s going to be very, very easy to root for. [Hat Tip: @JimmyTraina]

It’s not very difficult to pick sides when one side is inhabited by someone named Zakk.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:06 PM
The joke IS ultimately on Wilson though, he’s the one coaching Indiana football.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
Really hope he succeeds there (like, consecutive bowl games succeeds, not wins the Big 10), but it’s hard to imagine.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
Initially ready that as Rodeo Clowns.

Radio guys are so zany.

“That guy’s an ass! I’m sad my kid is going there … I’m going to call Ron Zook and tell them to pound Indiana.
“I’m sad that my kids going to a good school where the football coach isn’t a pushover or some pussy that takes shit from some radio hacks.”
Makes sense. These radio clowns both probably went to IUPUI.

“That’s incredible. How does he keep up with the news like that?”
“Don’t praise the machine!”

I applaud Coach Wilson for his efforts. Well done, sir.

Haha! The radio host just showed Kevin Wilson how professional comedy gets done. Like Ron Zook has that kind of influence. That’s hilarious
August 11th, 2011 at 12:17 PM
wilson will be a big time program’s HC within three years.
He came out guns blazing. No bullshit.
My all time favorite Barry Alvarez quote came during the press conference announcing his hire. He said “You better get your season tickets now, because before long they won’t be available.”
At the time UW is what Indiana is now (actually, far, far worse, read up on what working in their athletic dept was like back then) and the Badgers were only drawing 20-30000 fans to a 75000 seat stadium to see them get their shit shoved in by Michigan and the ‘Canes who were straight curb stomping everybody they played at the time.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:20 PM
Actually it was only 5 or 6 years ago that Terry Hoeppner was bringing some respectability back to the IU program.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:20 PM
You forgot to mention that they are also busts.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:20 PM
he sure as hell sucks right now but he’ll be back tho. no doubt. if lee westwood, henrik stenson, matt kuchar and steve stricker can all come back from being ranked in the 100′s in the not so decent past, so can tiger.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:21 PM

James Hardy was a good Indiana football player. He came after Randle-El.
I dunno, Spence. I’m starting to think this is more a mental blockade than a physical problem. He’s not 100% physically, but it’s definitely making me concerned that he’s throwing up big numbers everywhere he plays now. His head just doesn’t seem right.

August 11th, 2011 at 12:26 PM
Do you think he should’ve taken the whole year off?
I heard a guy on the radio the other day saying that Tiger should’ve just thrown this year away, but he’s so obsessed with 19, that he couldn’t wait.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:26 PM

It’s stunning to watch. I’ve been saying it for a good bit now, but I’m now even more convinced that Tiger is done. Just awful to watch.

So you had relations with CJ on top of your psychology degree? Is that what you’re trying to tell us here?
August 11th, 2011 at 12:28 PM
now aggie is threatening to leave for the sec again. just fucking go, hypocrites. go get your shit pushed in the SEC.
Menarky, if they leave the Big 12, UT splits and goes independent and the Big 12 falls apart. I’m not sure that’s the best outcome for a school like Baylor.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:28 PM
I have to think the SEC would want OU more than A&M, though getting into Texas would be good for the league as they’ll probably go to an SEC Network thing in a few years.

It seems to me that they would be a package deal — the SEC would want two to maintain balance.

August 11th, 2011 at 12:31 PM
HELL YES. been saying that for awhile. i was SHOCKED when i heard he was coming back for akron too.
all of those guys’ problems were mental too. stenson and stricker couldn’t even get off the tee they were so mentally screwed up.

My bad. I’m going to Radio Shack right now to get replacement parts…
August 11th, 2011 at 12:32 PM
Zakk and Jack sounds like it should be one of those 80′s wacky morning crews, where the guy constantly has his finger on an Instant replay so he can blast a sound effect every 15 seconds.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:32 PM

There’s an awful lot of you that have CJ pegged as an adulteress. Tsk tsk.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:33 PM
I think so as well, but OU seems like they are attached at the hip to BPSU (okie st.) at least in what I’ve read, and I don’t think the SEC wants that kind of stink. I know I don’t, although it would be ok to have a conference school within driving distance.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:33 PM
Ouch. I had no idea he got a divorce. Thats pretty skeezy. Unless they had been seperated for a while, and the divorce just went final in May. Then I give him a pass.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:33 PM
cmon man…jack went thru a major drought longer than tiger’s and he’s still ahead of jack’s pace. i mean, look at those guys i just mentioned who came back from being ranked in the 100′s…they’re almost all in the top 10 and even stenson was in the top 10 last year.
golf is a marathon not a sprint. if vijay can win into his late 40′s, why can’t tiger?

August 11th, 2011 at 12:35 PM

I’m guessing that’s what happened but there was no official statement about a separation. Either way, if you just got officially divorced (after 14 years of marriage) maybe you should wait a few months before getting engaged to someone new.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:37 PM
what’s bad is that if my sarcasm meter wasn’t spiking over here, I’d completely believe this show existed.

I just high-fived my US Weekly. Thanks, ladies.

Wow. That one guy is really pathetic. His own son will be attending Indiana and he says he’s sad he is going there? What a great dad. I hope IU beats down Illinois. Kevin Wilson is awesome. i agree, but we arent part of some long term plan anyways. if we stay in a good conference, great. if we ended up forming a conference with say, smu/rice/kansas/kstate/tulsa/others, that wouldnt be that bad. baylor as a shitton on money, so i think we would be fine. shit or get off the pot, faggies.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:45 PM
Vijay put in the reps. He played a tournament EVERY week. Tiger will not do that, so it’s going to take forever for him to round back into half-way decent shape, assuming he doesn’t get hurt again.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:46 PM
So is Franklin and Bash as fratty as I believe/hope? It should come with a hat you can place backwards on your tv.

Honestly I just don’t think this is the case anymore. There are too many of these young guys and they are just as competitive as Tiger. He no longer has the advantage mentally, and won’t be getting that back in my mind.

August 11th, 2011 at 12:48 PM
i hear that but vijay also accumulated a lot of nagging injuries that have really hurt him since he won the fedex cup back in 2008. if anything, a more relaxed, less analytical approach would help tiger more than hurt him…it seems he’s overthinking everything and not just going out there and playing like he used to.
remember how easy everything looked for tiger back in the day? now it looks like he’s in a gulag or something.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:48 PM

I think, however, that if UH stays in CUSA, SMU will want to as well. UH holds all the cards in CUSA West (just as UCF holds them all in CUSA East). What UH decides to do is going to determine what SMU does. We’re an up and coming program, but we’re not there yet. I don’t know of our AD, Steve Orsini, is interested in seeing us get destroyed in a new conference when we’re on the verge of being a continuous force in CUSA.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:50 PM
He played really well last weekend. Oh well.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:50 PM
This is an interesting point. Does Tiger need more reps, instead of time off?
August 11th, 2011 at 12:50 PM
Any word on the new girl? I just hope it’s not Torrie.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:51 PM
these young guys also don’t have any scars from getting beat down either. the only ones that have gone thru any adversity are rory, dustin johnson and nick watney.
sergio looked like he’d be one of tiger’s rivals until he had one too many close ass whoopings and then just went poof. same with ernie els.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:53 PM

another alternative i thought of was if baylor just joined cusa somehow. in any event, i would almost like to see aggie go and get the shit kicked out of them in the sec. they are not that good in a weaker big 12 as it is.

I’d welcome it. They’d have to bring in someone else though in the East to keep the conferences balanced.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:57 PM
Paterno heard about it, but assume they were talking about Amos Stagg.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:57 PM
Not from Tiger, sure, but the difference here is that you think Tiger can get that ‘intimidation factor’ back, the one that worked so well on Ernie (especially him) and Sergio. As time goes on and he just goes from injury to injury to missed putts I just can’t see him ever getting it back, that dominant position. Maybe for one round he can, but for four rounds? I doubt it.
Plus, unlike the past, there are a bunch of young guys competing at that level not just a few. And they’ve been groomed to play like Tiger (including with attitude) so some of his previous advantages are no longer so pronounced.
August 11th, 2011 at 12:57 PM
I’d welcome it. They’d have to bring in someone else though in the East to keep the conferences balanced.
i think it is a good option should baylor have it. we do great in every other sport in the big 12 except football. it will always be that way, so lets just tell aggie to enjoy getting there buttholes loosened and leave.
August 11th, 2011 at 1:00 PM
and im saying that thinking is just incredibly, incredibly short sighted and foolish. he’s got a THREE YEAR major drought at THIRTY FIVE years old.
he’s not even close to being done man…and these young guys haven’t proven jack shit. mcilroy and kaymer are the only ones with majors, so why would we worry about the rest that haven’t done squadoosh?
August 11th, 2011 at 1:00 PM
i think it is a good option should baylor have it. we do great in every other sport in the big 12 except football. it will always be that way, so lets just tell aggie to enjoy getting there buttholes loosened and leave.
My feeling is that if the Big 12 falls apart and a replacement conference of the remaining members does not come together (and if A&M went to the SEC while UT went independent) then CUSA and MWC are probably best placed geographically to take advantage.
August 11th, 2011 at 1:02 PM
It’s not the drought that worries me (or most people). It’s the way it all went down. He can’t hit the ball close to a fairway. Not even close. He has no clue where the ball is going. He looks completely lost and his personal life is jealous of a dumpster fire.
August 11th, 2011 at 1:03 PM
YES. But it’ll never happen. It’ll take Tiger another 3 years to win a tournament with his normal schedule.
August 11th, 2011 at 1:04 PM
Did I miss something?
August 11th, 2011 at 1:06 PM
Her neck is five years long.
August 11th, 2011 at 1:08 PM
Well, agree to disagree I guess. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back and wins a few more majors, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if that’s it for him. To me this is more than just a normal three year drought – he’s fighting injuries that don’t just go away and like you said this is a guy whose life and career have been tightly controlled from day one. I have more doubt (concern may be more apt) than you that he can find that confidence again.
As for the young guys you’re right, they are (almost) all unproven. But what I am saying is that fields are in my mind deeper than ever, and it is arguably getting harder to win majors with the depth of field you have now. Frankly I love it and would love to see Tiger be right in that mix, would make golf very interesting.

Basically what I’m saying (you just beat me to it!). Plus, he just looks totally lost on the greens.

i mean, i EXPECT him to come back, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if this was the end. you guys aren’t saying anything incorrect…i just want to see how he is once his life settles down and he gets healthier, that’s all. if he sucks then, THEN i’ll write him off.

This radio show and its hosts deserve more scrutiny than IU football . . . pre-Wilson interview ratings comparison please? They would be an embarrassment to sportstalk radio here. Kevin Wilson is an outstanding coach who stands up for his players and his team and he will be missed at OU. These hosts are jokers . . . please keep them in Indianapolis. For real sports talk radio . . . tune into WWLS The Sports Animal http://www.thesportsanimal.com . . . any of these hosts will take these two jokers to school in sports talk radio. Go IU and Coach Wilson!! Cheech and Chong need to find another day job.
