Heisman Power Rankings 2011: Luck is One Win Away from the Trophy
College Football November 10th. 2011, 5:30pm
Andrew Luck [Stanford] Luck had an average Andrew Luck game last week, completing 20/30 for 206 yards and three touchdowns despite a depleted receiver corps. Two of the touchdowns came within the last three minutes of the third quarter to ice the game. If Stanford beats Oregon, lock this up.
Trent Richardson [Alabama] Richardson was the one offensive player who matched up in the defensive stalemate. His 28 touches for 169 hard fought yards were extremely impressive. He needed a touchdown and a win to pass Luck though. With Alabama in all likelihood an afterthought, it will be hard for him to climb back up.
Kellen Moore [Boise State] Moore now has a 46-2 career record a starter, setting the NCAA record for wins. His one career loss in regulation was a 17-16 loss to TCU in a bowl game when he was a freshman. Limited tools, but flawless in the deployment of them.
Brandon Weeden [Oklahoma State] Credit where credit is due. He threw for 500 yards and four touchdowns winning a shootout with Kansas State. The Cowboys are an Oklahoma win away from the BCS Title Game.
Case Keenum [Houston] Yes, UAB stinks. However, 39/44 for 400-plus yards and four total touchdowns is impressive against anyone. Through nine games, 3,626 yards, 74.1 percent completion percentage, 34 touchdowns to just three picks.

o/t
Tiger, after a clean -4 in round one, is three under through six (birdies on 10, 13, and 14) today (tomorrow?) and one shot off the lead.
November 10th, 2011 at 5:40 PM
I am in no way predicting an upset but they could have trouble this Saturday at Texas Tech. That team that put up a ton of points on them last week wasn’t exactly an offensive juggernaut.

He’s just excited that his scandal now seems like an insignificant faded memory.
November 10th, 2011 at 5:47 PM
He must, he just birdied 16 (started on back side) and is not -4 today, -8 total and in the lead.

Who was the last Heisman winner to have played as weak a schedule as Luck has played this year?
November 10th, 2011 at 6:00 PM
Word. They should give it to one of the LSU QB’s. They have to go through the SEC!!
November 10th, 2011 at 6:04 PM
teamrankings.com has the Stanford SOS as 25th right now, not bad.
November 10th, 2011 at 6:05 PM
Ron Dayne, Wisconsin?
November 10th, 2011 at 6:06 PM
Except that’s not what I said or implied at all is it.
November 10th, 2011 at 6:06 PM
Sagarin has them 73rd.
November 10th, 2011 at 6:11 PM
Won’t be that weak after a finish of Oregon, Cal and Notre Dame with the possibility of the Pac12 Championship game vs. ASU.

So what are you saying todd, saying todd…..
November 10th, 2011 at 6:16 PM
@colonel parker,
who you on tonight?
November 10th, 2011 at 6:16 PM
Probably Reggie Bush or Matt Leinart. The Pac 10 was brutal for a while there.

I got on early with San Diego at -6.5 and just got on Ga Tech at +1.5

Yah, but unlike most SEC teams, USC schedules pretty tough out of conference. I know during the NC year, they opened up with Va. Tech in DC and they always play Notre Dame, which for as shitty as they have been, is always a tough game.
November 10th, 2011 at 6:20 PM
I like SD as well, that Tech game is messing with my mind….
November 10th, 2011 at 6:25 PM
I just don’t think that Oakland will be able to score with San Diego at home. I am not all that sure about Ga. Tech, but in the series, it seems like the home team usually prevails and I think Va. Tech is their usual overrated selves.

GTech is one of those teams I am always a week early/late on
November 10th, 2011 at 6:28 PM
Leinart probably. Depends how you want to qualify it though. If you’re asking about defenses I don’t know but USC only played two ranked teams that whole year and they were both at home. Luck’s schedule strength (Pre bowl) should be pretty close to Cam Newton’s by the time everything is said and done.
November 10th, 2011 at 6:31 PM
Luck made his bones in the USC game, and Richardson did likewise against LSU. Hell, I say give it to Claiborne as a way of recognizing the LSU defense as the collective best players in CFB.
November 10th, 2011 at 6:38 PM
They weren’t both at home. They played Va. Tech at Fed Ex, they beat a one loss Cal team and beat the living shit out of #2 Oklahoma in the bowl. He won that year because USC was so clearly the best team that year.
November 10th, 2011 at 6:47 PM
Not sure about all the love for Richardson from the LSU game. I wasn’t blown away.
His big impact was on the 2 or 3 plays (the only 2 or 3 plays) that bama out-schemed them and he was left wide open. Maybe 1 or 2 impressive runs, but he went down a few times that surprised me. I still think he’s better than Ingram … good but not heisman-good vs lsu.
I just didn’t see it.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:16 PM
As an LSU fan, i was super impressed by Richardson. But going up against Luck he needed to be the difference in the game and he really wasnt. He only had the one big run in the 2nd half (followed immediately by the Maze INT). His last 5 runs netted -5 yards, and he dropped two passes in OT (the 2nd one wouldve been a really tough catch).
That said I thought LSU did a great job on him, and he still had 163 total yards. No Heisman though. Ingram only won b/c Bama went unbeaten that year and it was a down year. Unless Luck falls on his face against Oregon he’s got it.

What does this information have to do with Moore’s candidacy for the 2011 Heisman?
November 11th, 2011 at 12:15 AM
He won that year because USC was so clearly the best team that year.
Seriously not a single person bothered to shout about this? The year that Miami and Ohio State played for the National Championship with two of the most over-filled rosters of the modern era, a 2-loss USC team was “so clearly the best team”? This is going in your permanent file, sir. God have mercy upon your soul.
November 11th, 2011 at 1:10 AM
That was the Carson Palmer year. He was talking about Leinart (i think) who won the year USC went undefeated.
