49ers’ Defense Plays Lights Out, San Francisco Pounds Pittsburgh, 20-3
NFL, Video December 20th. 2011, 7:22am
The lights went out twice at Candlestick Park, causing 35 minutes worth of delays. Then San Francisco played lights-out defense and cruised past the Pittsburgh Steelers, 20-3 on Monday Night Football.
Ben Roethlisberger, playing on a gimpy ankle that required a cortisone shot, tossed three interceptions and fumbled once. The loss drops the Steelers to 5th in the AFC playoff hunt. The win put the 49ers in the No. 2 playoff spot in the NFC, ahead of the Saints on tiebreakers.
Your quote of the night comes from Ryan Clark of the Steelers:
“I just feel like San Francisco took a big step to show the NFL and to show the state of California that they need a new stadium. I think it was a very strategic move, and Candlestick may be no more.”
Yes, Mr. Clark. The 49ers caused the transformer to explode.

What a shit game. Not sure why with a gimpy, stupid QB, Steelers only ran the ball a total of 19 times. Niners werent running away with it, pound it, protect your dumbass QB, and try to eek out a win.
May as well treat the next two weeks as a bye and sit everyone.
/pay the playoffs’d

I guess the Steeler’s dumpster fire of an offense didn’t provide enough light?

Goodell’s strategically planned political blackouts (and bullshit suspension) didnt help the cause. Fuck that guy.

Coop has already shown remarkable restraint in not bitching about the officiating. There was some home cooking last night, although that “leaping” thing is one I think should be called more.
December 20th, 2011 at 8:17 AM
The thing about the “leaping” call was that ESPN showed Harbaugh bitching about not getting a leaping call on the first Akers FG. Sure enough he got his wish later on.
The only call I had real issue with was the crew screwing up the “interference with the fair catch” when the ball clearly hit the other SF player who was in between the defender and the punt returner. He wasn’t pushed into the returner either – he was blocking on his own.

?

You want me to go full stereotype, fine, fuck that incompetent ref crew as well. Leaping? Kick catch interference? Chop block on a guy that was untouched off the edge? Are you shitting me.
The MNF crew wasnt even showing replays of penalties because they couldnt find them.

Steelers have failed to show up for every primetime game this year. They barely survived KC, CLE, and IND, stunk up the joint against SF, and then blew it against BAL.
Whoever draws them in the playoffs should pray for the Sat. night timeslot.
December 20th, 2011 at 8:19 AM
maybe he’s seen the light on the futility of bitching about refs.
December 20th, 2011 at 8:21 AM
Do you guys have refs/crews you hate to see on games? I know it’s just misguided fan perception, but it just really seems that anytime the Steelers draw Hochuli or either of the Walts (Anderson and Coleman) the preponderence of the calls go the other way and the Steelers really struggle.

It is CBS’s turn to get it. 10 bucks says it will be the team that is on the same side of the bracket with Tebow.

I just realized Lisk follows me on Twitter and I dont follow him. Aww thats sad. I’ll give him a follow.
December 20th, 2011 at 8:22 AM
nevermind…coop seems pretty charged about the situation.
December 20th, 2011 at 8:23 AM
All those teams have same thing in common (except Clev), great pass rush with only 4 guys. Offensive line stinks. QB forces is in (pun intended) even when coverage is tight.
December 20th, 2011 at 8:24 AM
Kick catch interference?
that was such a terrible call.
What I’m actually telling you Coop, is that today, you have a beef. And had you not spent all those other times bitching, your bitches today would have more weight to them.
both teams had a close chop block call, and it’s obvious they’re emphasizing that one, and calling anything close.
But the catch interference, no way. That was a total game changing penalty.
Ben Roethlisberger, playing on a gimpy ankle that required a cortisone shot,
the relevant goo for playing in this game was the injected lidocaine, which is in the cortisone shot.
December 20th, 2011 at 8:25 AM
Roethlisberger will Sandusky Tebow.

I just realized Lisk follows me on Twitter and I dont follow him. Aww thats sad. I’ll give him a follow.
if you followed him, you’d know his dad collapsed and died on Sunday. So offer condolences with your follow. I don’t know where his dad lives, but apparently, it was a good holiday day followed by the his dad dying unexpectedly late at night, I think at Lisk’s house.
December 20th, 2011 at 8:26 AM
I know no one will believe me, but I’m not a ref bitcher. People see one of many, many Steeler fans bitch about the refs and we all get painted with a broad brush.
December 20th, 2011 at 8:27 AM
Well now I feel like shit
December 20th, 2011 at 8:29 AM
would you say your mood has dimmed?
December 20th, 2011 at 8:30 AM
Miz = Chris Berman?
December 20th, 2011 at 8:33 AM
All steeler fans bitch about the refs. 90% of male Steeler fans would kiss a dude, but thats in large part due to how hideous the women are, and how they aren’t discernible from the men, who just want to rut in the mud, like their porcine QB.
December 20th, 2011 at 8:33 AM
Thank you, SF, for getting the Ravens back in the driver’s seat for a first round bye. Of course, when the Ravens inevitably gag against Cincy, it won’t really matter.
December 20th, 2011 at 8:34 AM
can we keep this lighthearted and less insulting please?
December 20th, 2011 at 8:36 AM
Wow. I had no idea either.
December 20th, 2011 at 9:01 AM
“The win put the Saints in the No. 2 playoff spot in the NFC.” If only.
December 20th, 2011 at 9:10 AM
How’s this? If the 49ers and Saints both win out, the 49ers get the #2 on conference record.
