Gatorade wants you to know that if you’re trying to win the NBA championship, World Cup, Olympic gold medal or a high school or college track meet, what you have on your body and feet will help, but it’s what’s inside that will set you apart from the competition.

This is not a “No guts, no glory” thing, but rather Gatorade’s new mantra, “Win From Within,” with which it is ushering in the new year.

To prove its point, the division of PepsiCo has culled several of its spokespersons for a new spot, “Isn’t Enough.” Included are Dwyane Wade, Usain Bolt, Abby Wambach, Serena Williams and Ryan Lochte, as well as several amateur athletes seen competing in high school and college events.

As the athletes train to the max for, and then compete in, events, a voiceover offers, “Your moisture-wicking fabric isn’t enough (think Under Armour). Your zero-weight shoes aren’t enough (think adidas). Your carbon-fiber racquet isn’t enough (think Prince). The apps that track, analyze and motivate you aren’t enough (think Nike).

“Nothing you put on is. It’s up to you. You and what’s inside you. What you put into it is what you get out of it. It’s as simple as that. You explode into the record books. You show no mercy. You come back strong, You win from within.

“Gatorade athletes know what they put on isn’t enough. Once you have everything for the outside, it’s time to start thinking about what you put on the inside. Sport is driven from the inside out. What you put into it is what you get out of it. Win from within.”

The TV spot, from ad agency TBWA/Chiat Day LA, is the anchor of a broader push that includes social media and a micro site at Gatorade.com that provides up-close and personal testimonials from the star athletes, as well as segments that offering workout tips, training regimens and other information.
