Mike Tice, Just Promoted to Offensive Coordinator in Chicago, is Interviewing In Oakland

Mike Tice got his first opportunity in the NFL as head coach when he was promoted to interim coach in Minnesota when Dennis Green was fired with one game left in 2001, and was given the permanent job in the offseason. Minnesota went 32-33 with Mike Tice as head coach, making the playoffs at 8-8 once in 2004. He was fired after a 2005 season when the Vikings offense declined with Culpepper’s injury and Randy Moss’ departure to Oakland.

Since being fired in Minnesota, Tice has worked as Assistant Head Coach/Tight Ends Coach in Jacksonville under Jack Del Rio, and as the Offensive Line Coach in Chicago for the past two seasons. When Tice was promoted many jokes were made about the fact that Chicago was looking for a passing game coordinator to work with him, and Troy Aikman didn’t think it was a good idea. No word yet on whether Oakland would hire a Game Management Coordinator if Tice was hired.
